Brought my push mower here earlier today to have it checked out as it was leaking oil. Seems like it was slightly over filled with oil as nothing needed repairs. These guys changed out the air filter for free with one they had lying around and the mower is back to its former glory. 5/5 customer service, will definitely be back in the future for the rest of my hardware needs. I recently just moved to Alger Heights. My fiance and I wanted to sand and stain our floors. Me, thinking im the handiest man in all of Grand Rapids, thought it would be an easy task. I watched a ton of youtube videos and every-time i watched a video of some veteran handyman i would think they are over reacting. Then realizing i was being lazy the whole time. Well the veteran handyman and staff of AHHS have the same views. i would end up having to to redo my work with what the veterans of youtube and AHHS told me what to do the whole time. Their selection may not have what Home Depot or Lowes have, but they have all the rentals/material to get the job done right the first time. Not to mention you will not have to risk getting rear ended on 28th st, lol.

Staff helped me find what I needed, and gave good advice. Good selection in the store, and much stuff not made in China.

Brought my mower deck there from my riding lawn mower to get a new blade, I expected to drop off for at least a day, but they quick did it for me while I was there, saving so much time!! I will definitely come back again for future service needs.

Ive been going to Alger Hardware for the past 4 years and everything has been great. However, I recently took my mower in for a tune up which costs $69. I got a call 8 days later when it was fixed and my total was around $170. They replaced my wheels and belt, but neglected to inform me beforehand. Replacing a $10 or $20 part is one thing, but if some parts are going to cost me an extra $100+ please call for approval.

Staff are all very helpful and knowledgeable. I live nearby and frequently stop there, and every time I’m impressed with the great customer service and range of product.

Great location, great selection and very decent pricing. Some items are less expensive than the big box stores. Plus its so close and convenient. The staff has always been able to answer my random questions about complicated old house problems. Very fortunate to live near this business.

Called on the weekend and Dan scheduled someone to come out Tuesday. I took a half day of work and they did not show. Rescheduled for Wednesday (took another half day of work) and the serviceman took one look at the job and said he didnt have the right tools. Came back on Thursday, fixed the problem in 2 hours. Charged me $185 in labor. Dan acted like he did me a favor because he dropped the $55 trip charge. If I made minimum wage I would have lost $70. Buyer beware! Poorly run operation.

This is the best hardware store out there, great customer service and prices are sometimes better than the big box stores. Everytime Im in the store I will get asked if I need assistance and are willing to help me solve a problem I have with my project. Projects dont seem to just take 1 trip to the store but its very convenient and I love supporting local businesses.

The older white guy had a Attitude when I asked if I can exchange something that I had literally bought 10 mins before I had came back .the guy had a ugly additude and said he will not return my product just because it was open then I told him it was fine that I would buy it then. Then that’s when he decide to change his mind and say he would take it back ended up not even having wat I wanted so I just left wit a product that I didn’t need and they ain’t let me return. was my first time ever going and won’t be going backThe first guy that received me in was a nice guy received me wit a smile and helped me find wat I had asked for even tho it was the wrong size

I can walk to Alger Hardware, get all the items I need to remodel my kitchen, then actually remodel my kitchen and have a beer and a steak to reward myself, in the amount of time it takes me to find an associate at Lowe’s or Home Depot.

I am handicap and my snow blower ate a volleyball and the blades would not work after getting out the ball. I could not bring in my snow blower. And thy came to my house to fix it. And when they were here they were very help helpful in say how to do things to help me out with snow blower. Thy also adjusted a few things on my blower. They did this with the price that they gave me on the phone just to fix the snow blower. I will use them again.

Beyond Terrible asked for a piece of plexiglass to be cut the arrogant man behind the counter told me it would take 3 weeks. Went to Ace in 44th and division and took 10 minutes.

Had a unique problem and they solved it.

People chatting with friends and neighbors, browsing for gifts and home repair items, looking for snow shovels, sidewalk de-icer, and a more than usual number of people bringing their snowblowers in for tuneups and repairs. A fun, wintery, pre-holiday atmosphere! They also have free coffee....

My experience about this place isnt good ...i know no body works for free but they charge me 25 bucks to check my lawn mover afther diagnose unfixable out tell me when drop it off..for future reference ..buy a brand new or loose it and pay for

I attempted to get a key made there key never worked would fit in lock but would not turn . O called to let them know this of course I didnt keep receipt I was told I would have to have receipt and bring key in so they could prove it was made by them . It was just an inconveince I live clear across town and could not make a trip there it was waste of money!!!
