Horrible customer service! Stopped in to purchase ladder for pontoon. Was told I havent got a single ladder in my store we looked around for other things as well and found 6 of them. SIX LADDERS-STORE SAID THEY HAVE ZERO. Fast forward to purchasing one, the guy told me it was probably not going to work and still tried to talk me out of it (although I pre-measured my boat and knew it would work, and does) west Marine may have a nice selection of stuff but their staff could really use some better training in customer support and knowledge of the things they have in the store. Doesnt sit well when Im told they have not one ladder in the store yet we find 6. SIX. And then am badgered by the same guy saying it wont work when he originally that said they have zero.
I was originally heading to Harbor Freight for some electrical connectors but on the way notice West Marine and stopped in. Turns out they had exactly what I was looking for. Small connectors and red and black 14 gauge solid wire.

Poor customer service! My husband went there to purchase a little fishing boat for he and I to enjoy this summer. They didnt have in stock, but would order. He also wanted the $1200.00 trailer to pull it. Also, had to order. He went to pick up the boat and trailer it was in a box!. I understand, it was not the sale of a new yacht, but still hard earned money was paid! Since he works full time, he has spent the last 2 weekends putting together. Really? Signed, would rather be in my new boat 😡

If you need something quick, they might have it. Store seemed a little empty, but im guessing that is due to them trying to compete with online sellers.

They had pretty much everything that you might need to maintain a boat. We went there for a new fuel filter which did not actually fit the boat and we had to return it. Will probably return.
I ordered a kayak offline after being told to order by Thursday and I would receive it the following Tuesday. That didnt happen. Then when it came in the following week it was the WRONG kayak. WRONG COLOR WRONG SIZE. Very dissapointed I reached out to the store manager Mike. He understood my frustrations. and though it wasnt his fault this happened, he drove his truck from Grand Rapids to Traverse City and picked up the kayak himself. He went above and beyond to help me out. Thank you Mike

I went to West Marine to purchase marine quality wood stain. I asked the cashier if she knew how to determine how much to purchase based on the area I was intending to cover. The squishy looking male cashier next to her - I think his name was Phil - felt the need to contribute to the conversation. Although he wasnt able to answer my question he did help to make it clear it was apparently a dumb question and that I seemed to be wasting his time. Im sure other employees are plenty nice, and maybe Phil was having a bad day, but I suggest that next time Phil is having a bad day he doesnt interject useless contemptuous comments into conversations. It makes for a bad customer experience.Also for future reference, Cetol Marine Natual Teak Stain can be purchased anywhere online for much cheaper than the store. 1 Quart also covers about 320 sf, but that depends on the wood.

UPDATED: My previous rating was a 1 star... Upper management has fixed this issue and provided the customer service I was looking for. Thank you to John and Mike.Original: I called into West Marine about an item I ordered and a lady answered. I told her that I received an email telling me that they may have other items I would enjoy, but yet I havent received the one I first ordered. I checked my tracking number and it said it was delivered the week before on 7/13 at 9:26am and signed for by someone at the front desk. I told her I had never received a call. She checked and came back and said we dont have it. I said well it says you got it last week I dont understand. She said well it isnt in the red folder or showing in the store so it isnt here. I said but it says someone signed for it.. Suddenly a man comes on the phone and says I am the store manager how can I help you? I explained the situation and he said the person that signed for it isnt here and it isnt in the store. Maybe you shipped it to the wrong address. I said no I didnt I picked your store. He said well technology can be wrong you know. I said a it is odd someone in your store signed for it but it isnt there. He kept being short with me and rude. Saying I told you to call back tomorrow when that person is here. I said this is horrible customer service. He accused me of swearing at his employee which I never ever did.. I couldnt even believe what I was hearing and how he was acting. All I wanted is to know where my item was. This individual does not belong in customer service. I then said who is there higher than you? Who is the store owner? He said Im the manager. I said I want someone higher than you. Suddenly a John came on the phone, he was polite and had a solution to my problem, but didnt seem to care about how the previous two people acted. I explained to him how rude they were and he apologized. I hope they somehow have recording of our conversations so they can see I NEVER ONCE swore. I am not a person to cuss as it is. Once I get my item in I will not be back, this was probably one of the worst if not the worst customer experiences of my life.
