I cannot begin to praise RAW enough - the environment is clean and professional while still being very welcoming and all of the artists as well as Krista the shop manager are super friendly and knowledgeable. I have been in for 5 sessions so far and have many more in my future. If you are looking for beautiful art from some phenomenal artists definitely stop in!

Was super impressed by the artists work in this shop so I requested a consultation with Melora. Her style is what I am looking for. I was willing to spend the minimum $700 required for my piece. I was told that she essentially didn’t want to move forward because she only wants full day or more tattoos... so she essentially wants to make more money. Super disappointed in this. And should be stated up front when you request a consult, not after you spend time putting your concept together and sending it over.

Im a repeat customer. The staff are super efficient and friendly. The venue is very clean. I have another tattoo booked out for the summer that Im excited for. While it can be pricier than other shops, its worth it for the quality of artwork received.

That was the best thing I could have done to prepare for my fourth tattoo.Greg, my artist, is awesome. I did my consult, first time for a tattoo for me, and got my tattoo about 10 days ago. I waited until it had healed before submitting this review just in case but I need not have worried.Greg has a wonderful personality and is an engaging conversationalist in addition to having the best touch Ive ever experienced in a tattoo artist. We spent the hour having a great conversation about a variety of topics while he did his work on my shoulder. There was none of the pain or discomfort that Id experienced during my previous three tattoos (San Francisco, Seattle, and Cedar Rapids locations), his touch was perfect.He gave me very explicit after-care instructions that I followed to the letter. I am absolutely satisfied with the way my new tattoo turned out and Im already making plans for another piece of art by Greg.Thanks Greg, you were worth the wait - Ill be back!

Decided late in life to get one bad ass tattoo, like the work that Arlo had on his web site. After consultation and a little brain storming we came up with an angle on my back . After several short sessions because I had a problem with the inking, Arlo worked with me . Always the professional he treated me with care and we worked together to come up with a piece of art . The gallery is full of one of a kind pieces of art that you cant find at the big box stores. Wendy can get you started, just go in take the first step you wont regret . I wanted a memorial tattoo for my two Shih-tzus that passed away recently and set up a consultation with Johnny. The process was different than I had experienced before and I was nervous bc of the lack of clarification/understanding of their particular process. After a little frustration, Lizzey was extremely helpful in answering my questions and putting me at ease. I completely understood the $100 deposit and think it’s the only way to ensure the artists’ security for their work and the scheduled appt, however, it is not refundable so know that. It is transferable to another appt if you cancel within a couple days and want to reschedule but know that by putting down the deposit, you either will go through with the tattoo or you will forfeit the $100 if you change your mind...also fine, but not explained well until it was too late. I was also told that my design would be done upon arrival and the estimated time for the tattoo would only be charged for “chair time”. Also, not true. I arrived at 12 as scheduled, Johnny approached me and wanted to make sure we were on the same page and then I waited for 2 hrs for him to design the tattoo. Everything that came out in the tattoo was specifically stated by me in the consultation and via phone prior to the scheduled appt and there were no significant changes last minute or added design elemants. At shortly after two, the tattoo began and I was completely done with everything and out of the shop by 3:38pm. I was charged for “draw time” after being told by the receptionist that I wouldn’t be, regardless of who’s decision that may be. I didn’t say anything bc I didn’t want to take away from the fact that I love the tattoo and appreciated Johnny’s work. Again, I want to say that I love my tattoo and Johnny was personable and friendly. However, what I calculated to be $200-300, after being assured not to be charged for draw time ended up costing me $432 after tipping $65. Overall, I was disappointed in the frustration that I experienced for something as sentimental as it was that should’ve been exciting and heartfelt. I do love the tattoo but leaving to feel overcharged and frustrated is disappointing.ADDITIONAL REVIEW/UPDATE:After posting this review, I was contacted by the owner of Raw Canvas, Justin. His sincerity and effort in resolving my issue was very appreciated. It was very obvious to me that he is passionate about his business and takes pride in his daily operations. After speaking with Justin, I have a completely different opinion of Raw Canvas and would definately recommend them to anyone. The level of effort that Justin put into making sure that my experience was left on a better note was exemplarary of true/quality customer service. Thank you Justin for all of your effort and kindness in rectifying my experience with Raw Canvas. Another much deserved “thank you” to Lizzey and Krista for making me feel comfortable and welcome upon my return to Raw Canvas this week. Thanks again Raw Canvas!

First Id like to let the public know Justin is in fact nothing more than a Diva. He mostly advertises his work on social network with almost all old tattoos that he touches up with photoshop. Dont pay his inflated prices for what could turn out to be complete garbage. Ask him about the onion flower that he did back on the beginning of December. It looked like a two year old went crazy with markers all over that poor girls body. It didnt take long for Justin to remove that garbage after the negative reviews.

Im not in to tattoos or piercings but its an interesting place to see what can be done... my daughter has quite a few tattoos... very nice people.

I had the pleasure of working with Greg today and it was an amazing expierence! We had a consultation a while ago and he did deliver. Very informative and open about everything. He showed me different designs and talked me through everything. Very very great work. This picture does not do justice for the detail he has in there. Afterwards he went thoroughly over the cleaning and care instructions. I would highly recommend this place (especially Greg) for price the quality is AMAZING. I also bought one of there hoodies and I absolutely love it. It says Proudly Marked Raw Canvas. Will post updates as I go through the healing proces, go back for touch ups, and possibly more tattoos!

When I first went in, they appeared very friendly and fit me in-when I was a paying customer. However, when it came time for my free touch-up, they completely turned around. After two previous 1 1/2 hour drives down to their shop and at least ten phone calls (of which none were returned) I finally decided to try one last time. Although the touch up would have taken about ten minutes and Meloras next appointment was in 2 hours, they just couldnt do it. I will never return and strongly recommend to anyone looking for a shop to find an artist that is in it for more than money.
