Me and my girlfriend were in Santa Barbara visiting from LA this past weekend driving my miata around the mountains. We pulled over at the top of Lizards Mouth and I popped the hood and noticed the radiator was still on (car was off) and coolant was spraying on the engine bay. Worried about overheating problems and being stuck up there needing a tow, we quickly drove back down to the nearest garage to get it checked out before driving back to LA. Fortunately the closest shop was A&E who quickly diagnosed the problem, sorted us out for the drive home, and we were back on the road within 30 minutes. Extremely friendly, polite, and courteous staff who know what they are doing and talking about. Highly recommend for any work.

I went to A&E to get my front windshield replaced and my oil changed. Each time, they give your car a comprehensive check up for free and they take pictures of everything. Each time I came back to pick my car up, they showed and explained everything they found. One time they found and fixed a nail I didn’t know I had in my tire, probably saving me from a flat tire down the road! They are always so kind and helpful and I recommend them to anyone in the area.

Cant say I had a good experience. Leaving my car could have been worse. Short of it. My car broke down outside of santa Barbara. I live 3 hours away. After weighing options, towing closer or leaving it. We spoke with a and e about fixing. I grew up on our family owned car lots, so I know my way around cars. During the break down I got to an autoparts store and did a number of diagnostic and narrowed it down. So when i called the shop i told them the issue was my lifters were bad, or the bottom end was bad. Owner couldnt have a full conversation with me as I spoke in more detail than she did about cars. I decided to leave it as we had a very loose recommendation to go to them. I had to talk through what i would do to pin point the issue. For 10 days i got the run around why they didnt start. Eventually they told me why they didnt want to work on it???? I had it towed to another shop that day. 2 working business days and my truck was fixed. Exactly what i told this shop was wrong with it, a stuck lifter. This is a $3000 job, so to me this job was more complex than they could handle. Ohh and jt was fully paid by an extended warranty. So no worry about non payment. The owner couldnt even talk in detail with me about next steps. I would not recommend this shop. I should have charged them for wasting my time. Seems like I dodge a bullet if they would have started and not been able to fulfill the fix. Might be good for oil changes. But anything more i would not recommend.

Bad misfire, rough engine, fault light on. They diagnosed the problems thoroughly: bad plugs and vacuum leak on bottom of intake manifold. I accepted their fair quote. When they were finished my engine was running as smoothly as it ever had. They had also showed me photographs of the problems and work done. Also had fuel injectors and lines cleaned. The resealed intake manifold also solved the indcator light issue. They did the work in a timely fashion. Courteous on phone and mechanic was very informative.

I am from out of town but was moving to Santa Barbara yesterday. My brakes went out hours before I was suppose to move to move my stuff in. They not only made sure our car was done within a timely manner, but you could tell how much they genuinely cared about their customers. They took the time to explain everything they did. Not only that, but one of the workers let me put everything I needed to move in their car and HELPED ME MOVE!! You cannot get better service then that. Great prices, great service, great people.

I was in town for work when my window regulator broke. I picked A&E based on the reviews and their proximity to my location. I needed to get my car fixed right away as an open window in a hotel parking lot could invite trouble. Dannon not only took me in right away, but was sweet in giving me a ride after dropping off my car and when it was ready for pick up. I appreciated her and her employees’ professionalism throughout the process and how detailed she was with her explanations, as well as how the technician did a comprehensive courtesy check of my entire car. I’ve taken my car for service at A&E twice; both times they’ve provided prompt, courteous service and no-nonsense advice about what needs to be fixed and how urgently. Their time and cost estimates have been on point, and I appreciate the little touches they provide, such as giving customers a ride when possible, which sets them apart from most independent mechanics.

Came here to get a repair on what I already knew was a wheel bearing. I was told that it was not my wheel bearing and that my car needed an entirely new transmission! I took my car to a different shop, had my wheel bearing replaced, and was told my transmission was fine. I almost spent the difference of $2000! Nice people but should really be more clear when getting an estimate. Also, PUT A MASK ON. WE ARE IN A PANDEMIC!!!!

I scheduled to have my truck diagnosed 5 days in advance. The woman at the desk mumbled to herself that she would see about checking the engine block, which was the number one thing I was there to have them check. Multiple mechanics there were passive aggressive and talking about me rather audibly saying things like “Someone tell him to get out of here or I’m not working on his truck”. When one person finally came over to look at my truck, they literally told me to “Take a hike”. I explained that I have a broken back and walking further than next door is excruciating and he said “Then get coffee next door”. It’s passive aggression and blindness like this that is why society is held back. People need to evolve and people quite simply need to grow up. I left before they could do any work, to avoid whatever overcharging they had in mind. If you want honesty and integrity, this isn’t it.

Go here for everything automotive!! I went in because the AC wasnt working on my car (only blowing air, nothing cool). They looked over the AC unit, and as a complimentary service took a look at other parts of the car to make sure nothing else was wrong. Because Im taking a long road trip soon I wanted to be sure the car would survive the journey, and am so glad I contacted this shop because I was told that my AC was in short gone. The owner gave an explanation for why the AC wasnt working, and what was thoroughly needed to get it repaired again. But she also gave solutions if repairing the entire AC unit wasnt an option. Although Ill be selling my car soon since the repair cost is higher than the cars worth, Im happy I went to this shop instead of chancing my cars condition on a long road trip. I cant recommend this place enough!

Went to A&E for help with my license plates - I needed to change them after moving here but the screws were totally stripped out and I couldn’t do it myself. They were prompt and so nice about it! They’re right in old town, so there was lots to keep me busy while they took care of it, and they sent a text as soon as they were finished. Overall a great experience and I will be going back for future car needs!

I was so disappointed that not a single person working there was wearing a mask during my recent visit. I get that the garage is an open space, but I felt very uncomfortable talking just a few feet from Dannon and the mechanic. There have been other small problems like not getting a call when the car was ready (I had to call myself when business hours were about to end) and feeling like I was being overcharged for services. I’d like to support local but this place just isn’t for me.

They’re nice but I stopped going to them after I was overcharged for a starter. I mean I am a woman in my 20s so I know this happens often but beware!!

Were all a little starved for human contact these days and all I thought I needed was a smog test, but when I arrived at A&E it was a homecoming. We had a blast swapping stories before getting down to work. The new mechanics were as friendly as my ten-year pals Dannon and Edgar too. I dont trust my 30-year old Baby with anyone else; theyve kept her peppy. Apparently its no secret: they were doing a brisk business in happy customers at a time when much of Goleta has been a ghost town. A typical innovation during my last vehicle inspection was receiving an email before I came to pick up my truck that detailed everything gong on under the hood - complete with close-up photos. A&E is The Best!!

I tried getting my car smogged multiple times in Santa Barbara and it ultimately resulted in it not passing for over 4 months, and I ended up receiving a pretty hefty ticket for my expired tags. I worked with A & E for about a month, and they were able to point me to the right shop to fix my car, and it finally was able to pass the check. They were so helpful and sweet, and they did not try to scam you like many other places do in SB. If you are in need, go here without a doubt. Thank you again to you all!

A & E has been working on my cars for about six years, and have always had time to take my car in, and have always done the job quickly. Since I started working in Goleta in 2014, they have found the time to drop me off or pick me up at work. For a big job that took more than one day, they dropped me at the airport so I could pick up my rental.

A & E is the best auto shop I’ve been to. They always complete all the work in a quick amount of time. Their complimentary inspections are very thorough and great for pointing out things I was unaware of requiring attention. They tell me what maintenance they recommend grouped by priority, but I never feel like they pressure me into completing any of the work or try to sell me on unecessary things. Some shops are less expensive than A & E, but it is important to keep in mind that you get what you pay for and when it comes to vehicles quality of work is very important. Overall, the staff here are all really friendly and seem very knowledgeable about vehicles.

Ive going to A&E for many years. Recently my 2010 Ford 150 was making a subtle engine noise. For a while I thought that I was imagining it, but finally decided to get it checked out. Usually, subtle problems must become major problems before they can be diagnosed. I asked Edgar to listen and was surprised when he said Ive heard that before. Even so, it took some doing, but he traced the noise to to its source. It wasnt an easy search, and it wasnt a trivial problem. He fixed it. I have been and remain a loyal customer of A&E for two reasons. They are competent and honest.

Its nice to have a mechanic you can trust. Sanford and his team are honest and I trust their recommendations. They looked over my car and gave me a quote but when I picked my car up they informed me that the total was much lower than anticipated! They are clean and courteous and I will definitely bring my business to them in the future.

Ive been going to A & E for a couple years now, but to prove how friendly and caring the people at A & E are, one of the mechanics got off of his lunch break early to help check all my rims and tires since I had mentioned it felt like it had been driving differently post-tire-blowout. They are accommodating, service-oriented, and honest.

Sanford and Dannon have been very helpful with changing my car battery and getting the best bang for my buck. Their courtesy check whenever I get an oil change has always been helpful when immediate attention on my car is needed. In addition, their email reports on my car with pictures of the car part condition gave me assurance that they are honest with their work.

This was the 2nd time I used A & E Automotive and I am so glad that I returned. Dannon gives excellent customer service to each person by giving a ride or getting an Uber for me so my day is not used up waiting around for my car to be fixed. Since switching my service provider for my Toyota truck to A & E I have received excellent service. They are very communicative regarding their recommendations for future service and what they might discover during the service appointment.

I have taken in my 2007 Murano a few times, for various work. The staff was knowledgable, communicated well, and saved me some money by finding that a leak previously found by a dealership was actually in a spot that was easier to get to. After a diagnosis, they also sent an email with pictures of my vehicle detailing what they found and the urgency of each item.

A&E Automotive did the pinion and axle seals on my Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4x4. They warrant/guarantee their work for 24,000 miles or 2 years, whichever is first. I think you’ll be hard pressed to find another shop that will back their work like A&E Automotive. The price I paid was on par with other shops (cheaper than a dealership), but warranty is what sold me. They do good work, are honest and fair, and even did a thorough inspection of my vehicle in order to let me know of any and all possible issues that were current and could arise if neglected; which prompted me to change my spark plugs, something I hadn’t even thought of.After about 14 months one of my seals starting leaking. I called A&E and they were able to get me in and replace the seal within the same week, free of charge. I don’t currently live in the area, but when I come back I’m definitely using A&E as my go to for mechanical issues that I’m unable to fix myself. I recommend this shop.I’m giving this shop 4 stars because I’m rounding up from 3.5; I’m very particular and anal about my Jeep. I like doing my own work on it so that I know it’s done right. In order for me to give 5 stars, a shop must be perfect. A&E is pretty close. They left my axle housing dirty the first time they did the job, which I had to clean off in order to monitor if any new leaking occurred. They also didn’t call me to give me an update when I brought my Jeep in for the warranty fix. When I called them I found out that they hadn’t worked on it at all the day I brought it in and weren’t even sure if there was an issue with the seal. I assured them that the seal was in fact leaking, that the oil on the axle housing wasn’t old from the first time they did the work, so they did the seal job the following day. This is a little nit-picky, but like I said, I’m very serious about my Jeep and won’t give a shop 5 stars lightly.

Very nice owners and workers. I lived in Goleta for four years and always come to them for oil changing/maintenance/repairing. They only recommend appropriate parts/services. They provide courtesy drive which sends you to workplace/home and pick you up when the car it ready. This saved me a lot of time in these years.
