Ive worked with Auburn on several small projects over the last several years, and all in all theyre great to work with. Its not cheap, but then getting detailed things done by skilled and experienced people never is. And thats what they are: skilled and experienced. Come in with a specific plan, and theyll do good work for you in a timely manner.
I was traveling through Denver with my RV when the slide out mechanism shaft broke. I went to several camping and RV stores in the area with no luck of any of them finding parts for me. I took it to Auburn Tool and Machine Co. too see if they could supply with a new shaft. I was told by Sam that he could do it but there was a $100,00 minimum charge for any work. I needed the part fixed so I said to go ahead.I made 2 big mistakes. I didnt get a quote and I left the entire mechanism with him so he could make sure everything fit. The shaft that was broken was approximately 18 inches long and 1/2 inch in diameter. it had to have 2 holes drilled though the shaft for spiral pins to turn a couple of gears. Im thinking not such a big job. When I went to pick it up I got the SHAFT alright. $520.00 for maybe 1 hour of labor and a 17 x 1/2 metal shaft with 2 holes drilled through it. I would think even if it was made with Titaniumit would cost less that that. As mentioned before, I made the mistake of leaving the entire mechanism with him so he wouldnt give it back unless I paid him. Not only that, he reassembled the mechanism backwards. i had to take it all apart and put it together so it would fit on the slide out motor.Beware if you are for out of town. He may be an honest business man for his return customers but he dosent appear to be one for travelers.I asked for the shaft and I got the SHAFT.
