The store (physical building) is in a small strip mall. Who cares, because the donuts are wonderful. The gentleman behind the counter was super nice, a former US Marine. We wanted to try a variety of donuts, and he helped pick a nice grouping for us. My favorite was the chocolate cake with chocolate icing, though all were worth the trip.
Quite the hole in the wall but the donuts are very good. Only complaint is that I had to wait quite a while (5 minutes) for anyone to show up at the front desk. I yelled into the back a handful of times and I think I was finally heard..
I know this place is small but the doughnuts are so delicious. I am a doughnut connoisseur Best flavor and the most tender dough. It needs some update on the front but who cares when they taste this good. I went there and a person bought 10 dozen so the stock was low.
The guys in there are so kind! The donuts are amazing, and the prices are very good! The shop may not look like much form the outside, but you will not regret a visit!!:) (10x better than King Soopers/Safeway)
I was the only customer there so your experience may differ, the seller moved as fast as he could to service my order and was very nice while doing so. It needs some renovations (to make it look cleaner on the ceiling which I wouldnt hold against them due to possible building construction problems) but has a great vibe otherwise.
I enjoy the donuts and gyros here but the guy that works here is kinda rude and seems to always be in a bad mood.
Great donuts. The owner is great at making donuts
Good doughnuts and a cool guy that runs it
Fresh! Lovely crisp sugar on the outside of the twist with a great yeasty chew. Cake doughnuts are fluffy and delicious. What a little jewel.😉
Best bang for your buck. I had tried many and I always come home to American.
Great breakfast burritos and awsome donuts. Staff is nice and funny
Not bad for a donut shop. Didnt really get the service we expected until we decided on a dozen donuts. Should include napkins on a to-go order.
Great donuts! Very much a hole in the wall shop but the owner is so friendly and donuts are absolutely delicious!
Great donuts for a good price
On Vacation and we will visit again amazing doughnuts
The service is fantastic and quick. Will be back tomorrow
Donuts and breakfast burritos here are the real deal. Old fashion, made by hand, and the taste shows. The apple fritter is absolutely delicious and the owner is super friendly. Highly recommend.
The customer service was deplorable. Old nasty man.
Amazing and fresh made breakfast burritos
Honestly the sweetest man on the face of the planet!! The donuts are so delicious it is hard to know when to stop eating them!!
Not a friendly staff at all, I walked out
Great service, great donuts
How are not open on Sunday morning? Windows plastered with photos of gyros. Idk what this place is about.
Very unassuming, and while we waited enjoying I Dream of Genie on the old TV we wondered what we were going to get...what we got was a giant, handmade bacon breakfast burrito that rivals any delicious Denver burrito that you would pay $8 for. But this one was $3.50!!! We paid $12 total for two delicious burritos and half a dozen donuts! We will be back.
Its fine, nothing mind blowing
Donuts are good. The place smells like an ashtray.
Great donuts. I especially like that they fill the eclairs and jelly donuts when you order so you get exactly what you want.
This little cozy place has really good food. The cinnamon roll was so good. Then I had the breakfast burrito and couldn’t tell you which one was better. I recommend everything. Thank you for great food and friendly customer service.
Best raised donuts around
The family and I love their doughnuts
Amazing place. Was shown by my coworker Kenny M. Some of the best donuts Ive had in awhile. Cheaper than the big chain stores and just as good, if not better quality. Best thing, the owner here was paying out of pocket/profits to keep the employees employed during the Covid19 crisis. Will only go here from now on and I highly recommend supporting this wonderful small business! 😋🍩
Friendliest service ever! And the breakfast burrito has great bang for the buck
Rob is da bomb
Good donuts. .good price. About all you can ask for.
No frills shop with amazing diabetes circles.
Mike and Robert were friendly and fun even @5:37a! And the donuts were super yummy! Ill be back!
The best
It is hard to find a good donut... these guys are awesome!! Price is really good too👍
Super delicious donuts! Tried a filled donut, cake donut and glazed and they were all delicious! The gentleman was very friendly and helpful!
Best donuts in town. Very fresh, fast service, super friendly owner. Not sure why everyone says he is rude, he has been nothing but kind to myself and my girlfriend every time we go in there. He always tries to get us to buy more donuts, very friendly. And you can’t beat the price! Don’t listen to the bad reviews, this place is worth a shot! Support local!
Thought this would be a cool place to get donuts for work. Not only did they promise extra donuts from leftovers from some other event for free, they charged us for them, and didnt give us the original amount we asked for. Will not be returning to this shop. Thank goodness king soopers is close to our office!
They have the best donuts in town. Hands down. The outside doesnt do it justice. Service is pretty good, sometimes erratic, but always worth it for the donuts
When I pulled up it looked shady then walking in I wasnt sure if I should actually eat here. Well I shouldnt have a judges the book by its cover. These donuts were Awesome! Totally going back again.
Best Donuts in Denver!!!!! And the burritos are great as well!!
Dont let the outside or inside fool you, this place is awesome! The donuts are top notch, and the breakfast burritos are out of this world!
Fresh Donuts(fresh oil used) and very friendly staff, great prices-great people.
Ok so I was a little worried because I had read some reviews that said the older gentleman who ran it was really rude. I think it depends on how you are and how you take things. Im used to people being short but I didnt feel like he was really rude by any means. He was very nice and greeted us when we entered. And the donuts...oh my gosh. I got a raised chocolate covered, my husband got a raspberry jelly filled, and we got a chocolate covered cake to share. The first 2 donuts were great! Bigger and softer than any chain place Ive tried. But the cake donut was what hit the spot! Insanely moist and fresh! I like to think of myself as a cake donut pro as every place I go I try them. NEVER have I had a donut this soft and perfect. Im SO glad we found this place and while it may be awhile until we come back to Denver, this will definitely be a must stop!
Really good donuts! The gyro was surprisingly good too :)
Very tasty old fashioned donuts, really fresh, dense, and not at all dry. Good selection at noon on a Monday. Free sample of donut holes on the counter. Worker was really pleasant and helpful. No minimum charge for credit cards. Good price, $3.44 for 4 donuts.
Old time feel but high quality donuts
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC DONUTS! The cinnamon crunch cake donut was unbelievable! Being a great cook,I am extremely selective with my food. Most pastries and baked goods I buy, I can only take one bite and then I do not want to eat the rest. This was a great find. Whenever I get an urge for a doughnut, I will drive over here to get it from American Donut. It is well worth the drive! Actually, I think the next time I need to bring something for a potluck or snacks at an event, I will pick up some of these donuts. I can’t remember when I’ve had such good baked donuts.
Hands down one of the best donut places Ive tried in Colorado! The owner was one of the nicest people you can meet! This place is a must try!
Definitely a hole in the wall type place but thats usually the best kind! Was not disappointed by the donuts (fresh, perfectly fried, melted in my mouth amazingness I will now crave every Saturday morning) I didnt have a poor experience with the service at all and I wouldnt have minded Christian programming but Pink Panther was on this time on the 80s TV....Will be back for these tasty donuts!
Local, professional and a great experience. Donuts are so delicious and absolutely affordable.
Decided to try this place ONE TIME because its closer to my home.. The man with hat and grey hair is RUDE. I said I would need between 6 and 12 donuts and he grumpily demanded I need numbers!. I told him if he had a nicer attitude their crummy store *might* attract more customers. Will not be going back, it might be a longer drive, but I prefer the excellent customer service & products from Donut Burst on Jewel & Garrison.
Delicious old fashioned sour cream doughnuts here. This is my favorite kind of doughnut shop - no frills, delicious same-day doughnuts for dirt cheap. Perfect stop on the way back to Denver from the mountains. Will definitely be returning.
Great, old fashioned donuts. As others have alluded to, this is not someplace you should go if you want to be in and out in a few seconds. There is normally only one person working behind the counter and sometimes a sizeable line. Appreciate this place for what it is and you will not be disappointed.
Super tasty donuts but the guy working there was so weird. He was complaining that he was so far behind on his chores but people just keep coming in!Um I am sorry that people want to give you money so you can pay rent, etc. Also he had a TV on with a Christian station teaching us why marriages are on the rocks (spoiler alert: its because they had sex before the wedding)Just go somewhere else.
The man running the store made degrading racial comments about the spanish speaking ladies in line behind me. Was excited to try a new place as it is on my way to work, but I will not be going back.
All the negative reviews are just plain objectively wrong. If you like a sad raised donut without any flavor like one from Safeway you’ll be disappointed by this place. If you’re actually a donut connoisseur, this is the best place in Denver. Don’t think. Just do. Donut yourself. Can’t speak about the gyros (which they also sell), as I’ve never gotten one. Do yourself a favor and buy a donut.
Dont know about the donuts but I went in for lunch and had a gyro. It was pretty tasty and fresh. The man working there was very friendly and fast.
I was a little disappointed with the donuts, as I had read great reviews about them, but I didnt think they were as tasty as people had claimed. I also read about the poor customer service and the only guy working there being rude, so I had prepared to be extra nice. It was incredibly difficult to do so, since he was very rude and every effort I made to be nice failed to brighten his mood. I was ordering a half dozen donuts to share with my family, and I heard him whisper pig under his breath. I definitely will not return, not because the product was bad, it was alright, but because of the service.
Place is weird and incredible. The breakfast burritos were savory and hefty, and $3! Unreal. Grabbed a half dozen donuts for the road, best $4 to be spent in the area. The cake of the donuts was light and airy, with that satisfying fried crunch on the outside. Well balanced glaze, not too sugary or runny. As for the weirdness, there was a huge CRT tv in the dining area playing a video with some kind of trippy religious author guy droning on about making violins (???). The decor and seating were dated, but honestly it added to the experience. Im not sure why others say the guy that runs the place is rude, he was good-humored and made a damn good burrito. All in all, a worthwhile stop. Would go again.
100% on board with everyone who says THIS PLACE SERVES A GOOD OL CLASSIC DONUTS. I switched to the old fashion cake donut a few years ago and found American Donuts to have the perfect one for miles around.
Dirty shop, turtle slow, owner(belly hanging out) and help doesnt wear gloves and fingers all the donuts while making pup orders. Whats worse they handle the food right after touching cash, never wash their hands or wear plastic gloves.
Best donuts in Lakewood! Hands down. Friendly employees who take pride in their work.
Fast friendly service, amazing donuts! Wonderfully fresh and puffy, so good. Small business feel, owner made me feel like family during a brief visit. Organic juices, milk, and soda also available.
Donuts as they should be.None of this 3 layers of RedBull flavor frosting with Oreos and bacon-bits thats become so popular.Super friendly owner, very good prices (comes with the hole-in-the-wall rent rate I suppose), and all-around great place to get your fix.
I have a real love for donut and have tried almost every donut shop in the Lakewood/Golden area and this place is hands down the best! I think they could even give VooDoo’s cake donuts a run for their money. The reviews saying they’re “gas station” donuts are simply wrong, and obviously coming from people who’ve never experienced a good donut. The guy working, who I’m assuming was the owner, was very kind and sweet. I’ll always come here for my donut needs from now on. 10/10 would recommend!! If you don’t try this place, you’re really missing out.
I love a good glaze donut and they hit the spot with their freshness every time... Love it... Have made it my Saturday morning treat for the kids... 😱😍😘😎
Best Donuts in Town! I love the food and appreciate the intermittent verbal abuse from the owner. The gyros aint bad either!
What a great place to take a break even at night. They are pretty simple in here but the donuts are amazing. They have so many in here and at times, I don’t know what to get.
Picked up a dozen this morning for a book club at a local high school--the students loved these donuts!! Service was excellent and the gentleman there was nice and helpful. Ill be going back.
Great little donut shop!!
Fantastic locally made donuts! I cant get enough of their glazed donuts. You wont be disappointed.
These donuts have a flavor unique to any other Ive tried here. And the filled ones are made to order.
Best donuts I’ve had in years. Way better than grocery store donuts.13 donuts for 8 bucks
Tried the cinnamon sugar, strawberry, and double chocolate cake donuts which were all great. The apple fritter reminded me of a funnel cake from the fair, delicious!
Excellent hand made donuts! Cant beat the price and service.
Very good place for the donuts prices are low and good quality tasty donuts
Great doughnuts...bad service. This place has the best Apple fritters I have ever tasted but rarely go there because of the service. The guy was rude to me so we did not go back.
Subpar at best, dont waste your time. Same product as gas stations or grocery stores. Guy running the place had religious preaching on TV loudly spouting hate messages. I wont be going back.
His donuts are well covered and well cared for. they are amazing, i havent had donuts like these since the old bakery back home in nebraska. the consistency is almost like cotton candy when you bite into them, they almost melt in your mouth. the place is overly humble and the owner is short and quick to the point. the people who cant handle this type of fella are just too rude to get what it means to deal with themselves…his donuts are more like treats than breakfast. he should be baking at disney world
Smells like a real donut shop, perfect. Cinnamon sugar was amazing! Going back asap
Best donuts in Denver! Small shop with yummy treats inside!
The donuts are amazing, and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
Friendly guy behind the counter. Good donuts. Amazing ivy plant in the front.
I have visited a few times, always in the morning, and the guy behind the counter seems pretty nice. The donuts are really good.
From Vt, my son says best shop around. Go it is great.
I get donuts for our staff donut Friday. I always get asked where I brought the donuts from because they are tasty!
Great customer service and good donuts
Great donuts and great service
Very friendly staff, fantastic food, and overall good people
A hole in the wall place but good donuts.
