I went in to get my exhaust pipe fixed was expecting to be there for more than 2 hours, was barely there till the 2 hr mark. Service was quicker than i expected the owner is a tell it like it is person .people want to be cheap when it comes to getting certain things on your car fixed you get what you pay for, I definitely will be taking my car back if i have any problems

Outstanding customer service, I would not just recommend I would tell anyone to not go back to there old shop and to go to American break and muffler only.I had to go to a shop in Virginia to have my rear brakes adjusted and pay an extra $45.00 because this shop did not complete the job and WOULD NOT honor the warranty.

Ben is pretty upfront with you which is a rarity at times. He told me he would fix my car and he got it done. Well his techs got it done I think Ben just likes to delegate and chat with the customers heehee. I trust them though so that says a lot. Check them out!

Good honest service and price

First off I have to say Ben and Dave and the rest of the guys here are awesome. I have been coming to this location to have work done on both my vehicles. They do Great Work. Arnie hope I spelled it right you need to give these guys a raise. Also I have to ask is there any way you can have a frequent customer program. I really wanted to see if could get a sarcastic response out of the boss but you only get those with bad reviews. I have no complaints. So rip me a new one Arnie I dare you.

I’m new to Gary and by luck came across this business which was the best thing that could’ve happened!As soon as I entered the business I was greeted and treated extremely well by the owner and his awesome team of employees!I needed a entire engine removed from my car and new one put in which you would think would take days if not weeks with most shops well needless to say they had everything taking care of and kept me in the loop the entire time which happened to be only 2 days !! I couldn’t believe it !!! I would absolutely recommend too my family, friends and even complete strangers too American Brake & muffler complete car care center . I had my catalytic converter replaced and an oxygen sensor replaced. My check engine light came on and it said it was the sensor. So I took it back and he wants to charge me $80 for labor to replace a sensor that is not working properly that he put in. I already paid $160 this is ridiculous and they are stealing peoples money not honest people at all.

Whoever answers the phone here is extremely rude. I wanted to get a new engine and called for information and to ask if the shop could put a new engine in my vehicle. The employee that answered the phone this morning response to me was well, this is a repair shop isnt it?! Poor customer service, rude employees. DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS HERE. Find somewhere that customers are appreciated.To the owners response which proves my exact point RUDE.I called the first time, you were rude,short, and could not give me a price. I had my husband call the second time to see if we could get better customer service and have service done, again customer service poor.SIR- You invesgating reviews and searching people information on google is really creepy and scary. If you have not learned yet in your line of business, most people leave reviews to warn others of their experiences. What you should have done was figure out where your customer service went wrong and improve but what you did was STALK reviews to find peoples information.The problem DEFINITELY lies with your customer service as I am not the only reviewer that left you negative feedback with the same complaint. One reviewer you even respond and blamed your poor customer service on an answering service that you utilized but the rudeness continue even with you responses. I give my honest feedback on experiences. I left two great reviews for other places because they had great service. If good I leave that, if bad i warn others. You should really do better and stop arguing with customers, its sad.THIS WILL BE MY LAST RESPONSE AS I HAVE NO TIME TO GO BACK AND FORTH WITH YOU, JUST DO BETTER AND TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT. Called this store, thinking it was the Merrillville location. Ben not only gave me the exact driving directions for the Merrillville location, but went ahead and set up the appointment for me. Great phone service.

I had them fix my alternator. Then came back to repair my sensor. They did fairly good work. Then I noticed these guys slightly sabotaged parts of my vehicle so I can come back and get it fixed. Stuff that was fine was now making noise. Spent over 2 grand with them. The manager let it unintentionally slip out of his mouth, that this is what they do for a living. That’s how they stay in business. Definitely will not be getting any more of my business.

Have had repairs made and service on 2 vehicles at the new Crown Point store on Main street and cant say enough good things about my experience. These guys are very professional and thorough. In both cases they diagnosed problems and offered up front, reasonable quotes on repairs and completed the work the same day at the prices quoted. I would recommend this shop to my own mother. There once was an uninsured driver who chose to screw me over by damn near destroying a vehicle that I still make payments on....I walked in to this shop with a story and very little in the bank. They worked with me on so many levels...•They started working on my vehicle immediately!•They offered an affordable payment plan!•They did an amazing job fixing everything last thing!I couldnt ask for better...Mind you, I had to pay for everything before I got my car back. But, it was 100% worth it!!!!Thank you Jesus!!!!

They put a new converter on my truck, ended it having to replace o2 sensor, since the threads were stripped out too.... today my muffler broke, so I took it to another shop to find the after market converter (from a different type truck) was spot welded in & the new o2 sensor was wire spliced to fit my truck...bottom line is I was charged over $500 to make the wrong parts work on my truck...

This shop has by far the best service around! They go above and beyond anytime I need work done on my car. They always take the time to explain everything to me and answer any questions that I have. I’ve been taking my cars here for years and I would recommend it to anyone looking for trustworthy mechanics. They never disappoint!

I had a check engine light on in my Chevy Impala and needed to get it fixed ASAP so I could renew my tags for my plates. the service manager, I cant remember his name, was very friendly. They were able to diagnose the problem and have my car fixed within the hour of me taking it in. Very affordable and highly recommended!

I called to get an estimate on an engine repair, and whoever they have answering phones their is very rude. 2nd time in the span of a week Ive talked to him and hes had the same obnoxious attitude. Asked him do they do engine repairs their, he proceeded to hold the phone for a few seconds then said what do you think?? Were a repair shop. He must not be very smart either because all shops dont do engine work...Will not be getting my business.

American Brake and Muffler did a great job on my Subaru Forester. The dealer wanted a ridiculous amount to do the brakes and wanted to charge me $40 dollars to “adjust” the rattling heat shield on my Forester. They did my brakes and resolved my rattling issue for a fraction of what Subaru wanted to charge me. Thank you for helping me and not taking advantage of a little old lady like some other places try and do.

I cant believe this place is still in business. I had been warned about them but decided to give it a chance. It appears that the work they did to my vehicle should have been a simple fix instead of a 1800$ bill. They installed parts on a whim and cleared the codes, I picked up my car and drove it for 2 days only to have the light come back on for the exact same code. Took it to another shop and 200$ later I have no issues and was informed that they basically got the best of me. Lesson learned. Just here to warn you too steer clear of shady shops.well lets see, I have 75 reviews one of them being about your business. So I dont really understand how you came up with the number 60. If u cant do math you probably shouldnt be doing business. And by the way you and that particular Wendys are equally good at producing satisfied customers. Maby you should flip burgers instead.

I usually bounce between this shop and another one closer to my house. These guys are my go to guys for what I like to call gremlins. You know, when you car act like it got possessed, but dont do it all the time. These guys really good at stuff like this.

Came here today. Is my reg shop had a lime out the door and I gots to get in the road today!! These cats give my regular shop a run for there money. Quick and clean. Just the way I like it. Had my oil changed and trans fluid flushed in less than hour. Also they were cool about letting my nosy self watch them while they worked.

I’ve never posted a review before, but I feel compelled to do so today! Yesterday I took my 2005 Chevy Malibu to this shop. My brakes were making an awful noise, but I knew they were less than a year old. I recently moved here and this was the first time coming to American brakes. I was expecting the worse, but instead the owner ( I think he was ) walked in from garage area with a piece of rusty metal. He said this was making the noise and he simply removed it. When I asked what I owed, he gave me a high five! Are you kidding me. Bless these guys. You have a new customer for life!

Crooks. They are very unprofessional cursing and insulting customers and the owner who claims to be in business for 21 years is very fraudulent and rude. Whether or not you’re using your warranty and/or your insurance or paying out of pocket you will be soon very dismayed by the unforeseen problems they WILL find and then overcharge for your vehicle. The so called “diagnostic” that they perform is a joke btw! This is truly the WORST business I’ve ever dealt with in my life. Now the so called “Owner” is commenting under my review and harassing me. Telling me to remove my review and disputing my account of my experience. I absolutely have the right shop and person. I will not be intimidated. Public and potential customers be forewarned with some of the FAKE positive reviews made by their friends and family members. This guy is a swindler and a fast talker: all fluff and fraud. Buyers BEWARE.

My vehicle battery drained every night. I just knew there was some type of electrical draw somewhere. The guy that sits behind the counter told me it was a bad fuse box and they replaced it. They charged me $700. It’s was all good until when I went to start the vehicle the next day I had the same problem. I called up there and had a few words and got hung up on. No one should have to pay for something that doesn’t get fix. They are a rip off. I will be uploading a receipt image later on. There’s nothing fictitious about it.

Cheaters, lairs and crooks. I took my car to them. They said they charged $50 for diagnose. I paid them for diagnose and asked them to go ahead fixing the car. They called me saying it is done next day. I went to pick it up. The engine light was still on upon test driving mean nothing was fixed. next day, they called me again, but light did not go away. I left car for over the weekend so that they can take their time to fix it. On Monday, they clear the light when I drove for a while the light came back. I took it to back. They said it will cost more $250 on top of $1800 which they already charged me after first visit. During this one week they changed things that they were not related to main problem. The problem still exist, now they are saying it will cost additional $1200 for part and labor. They changed several things, they did not give me itemized charge list. Problem still exist after spending $2050. When I asked them about the service and charges and the problem still exist, they all gang up in the office and yell at me. Very very bad attitude, and service. Even performing diagnose and telling what is wrong, the problem still exist. What they are asking additional $1200 now should be catch and fixed at first time.Do not go to them, if you have to please get written statement what is wrong to your car and how total it will cost. Get receipts for all the part they replace and old part from your car. Get everything in writing.

Ive been coming to this shop for the pass 4 years their the only shop to work on my trailblazer. Ive always felt welcomed and the staff has always been polite with me. They are definitely in the back messing up things that were perfectly fine. You go in for one thing and ended up needing a million other things done all of a sudden. I went with my friend to get something minor done and as they were working they just kept coming back saying this is messed up, this broke off, you’re gonna need a new this and that. They were discovering “damaged parts” on the car that they weren’t even suppose to be near. Very dishonest business. Very Shady. But if you ask them, we’re all lying 🙄

Got a great deal on my auto repair everyone else wanted way more they were very helpful in telling me all about my repair that needed to be done Im going to take all my cars there from now on

I called for to get an idea of what it’d cost to get some work done. The guy (owner I’m assuming, from his statements ) was using foul language and talked to me like I was ignorant. I would avoid this guy like the plague! Horrible impression in a 30 second phone call!

Love this place. They are honest get most work done the same day and have reasonable prices.

DO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE . 6 years ago I had my car worked on by them, I didn’t have the rest of the money to pay for repairs so they couldn’t trust me &to drive the car home and bring them back the rest of the money the next day & I’m a trustworthy person so I had to walk all the way home instead of driving my car home. Took my car there a couple months ago for a front end alignment and they test drove it and came back and said it was good but the minute i started driving the steering wheel was crooked and shaking, took it back and said the machine doesnt lie and i need a camber kit for the back thats why my car isnt going straight, the camber isnt bad at all, didnt even offer to recheck it, so i took it down the road to glenpark auto works and they fixed it and got it perfect in 20 minutes! This place might be good at other things but not alignments, either there machine is trash or the mechanic needs to be trained, would never recommend this place to anyone!

These people are a RIP off. They said I needed new struts on my car, they charged me $1500. I took it to another auto repair shop and they told me that the struts had never been changed. I still had the same problems. Then of course, they lied tried to cover it up. What scumbags.

I called today and spoke w some guy explaining what i needed he was suppose to have a tow reasy for me this afternoon i waited and waited and deaided to call back to check on status and then the owner who was very rude speaking in fast tone saying we dnt discuss pricea unless its me i was explaining that i discuased everything w the other person he was suppose to send a tow truck lack of communication skills with the owner him self if your a woman. He said maybe i should go else were and i stated i sure will.. u dnt want that type of behavior fixing your vechile i called 830 this morning and was ready to do business.. Im glad I changed my mind I dnt want some one with aggression who cant handle a busy day handle my vechile. oh tjen tje owner said i had the wrong shop i screen shotted the exact time and date this morning repeated the number American muffler he did the same thinf to others they are the first ones that pop up on google if you search muffler shops in gary indiana. wow

Brought a used car here for an inspection, took the dealer back to the dealership came back(took 10 min) by the time i got back they were supposedly done. They didnt even drive it, didnt even let me check it out on the lift. Told me stupid minor things that arent even remotely important like that it had a single inlet dual outlet muffler. Waste of time, go elsewhere, i wouldnt trust these guys to know what they are doing.
