The Muffler Shop is a great auto garage. The service is excellent and very friendly. The team members are patient and very willing to speak with customers so as to explain mechanical issues and a proposed plan of action or to just provide advice. The prices are fair and the staff seems very honest. I believe The Muffler Shop to be the best garage in the Houghton/Hancock area.

When I got my window fixed, and a couple of small fixes, There was no check engine light one. Since I went here the check engine light turned on (which they would not look into) there is a unplugged cable dangling by my front tire that again they will not look at. they told me to go to the tireshop and apparently the tireshop wont fix that either. there is also something metal dangling by my drivers side back tire. I love getting things fixed and then magically they fall apart/s. Im so tired of everything falling apart after I pay hundreds to get them fixed. Yes this is the right place but the repairs were under my moms name Denise

The Muffler Shop is the best auto repair experience I have ever had. From the moment you walk in, you can tell management cares about the customer. The lobby and garage is well-maintained. They have complementary refreshments ranging from chips, crackers, cookies, candy, water, and coffee. The staff does a thorough job of communicating what the problems with your vehicle are and how they intend to solve them. Heck, they’ll even pick you up or drop you off if you’re without a ride. I enjoyed my experience with the Muffler Shop, and would recommend their service to anyone.

Fantastic! They fixed my exaughst pipe in less than 2 hours. I didnt have anyone to pick me up while I waited and they dropped me off at the place I was staying and picked me back up when they were done! No charge! Looking for a skilled and honest mechanic you can trust? ... this is the place! My son goes to school here, we live in the Detroit area ... 9 hours away. This shop was upfront about the extent of work required, and what it would take to do it. They completed the work as was estimated in the timing promised ... so he could drive it home for Thanksgiving! When he got home, Doug at the shop worked with my local mechanic on other problems with the car (NOT caused or related to his work) ... even though there was nothing in it for him. This shop is committed to doing the right thing for its customers, and genuinely cares for them! I highly recommend them ... especially to MTU students away from home. Fair, honest, caring and committed to DOING whats right!

Was on vacation from Illinois when started having brake problems. Looked on line and found the muffler shop. Called and told them my problem and told me to bring car in next morning at 7A. Doug offered me a Prius to use and advised he would call me. Just got back to where we were staying and got a call advising the problem and price to fix. I agreed and was told the car would be ready around 9:30A. Got a call back around 9A that it was done. Picked it up and was giving a copper ingot key chain. Upon getting in the car found a caramel popcorn treat with a thank you card. EXCELLENT service and friendly people. Can not recommend them enough.

I took my vehicle there today around noon after AutoZone couldnt get a reading on my check engine light. The kept my vehicle and drove me back to work! He called me around 1:30 to let me know the problem and give me an estimate, he called again 2ish hours later and the job was done and under the estimated price! I have never been a customer there before, but I will definitely go back! They even had a delicious bag of zebra popcorn on the seat when I picked it up! Extremely happy with their service and will use them again!

I have taken my vehicle to the appropriate brand service center for several years. I had to take it back several times for the same issues. It was not repaired until the warranty expired.The muffler shop went above and beyond. Repaired my air conditioner first visit. Replaced a blinker bulb ignored by the brand dealer for 4 years. Identified and repaired other critical issues. I am back. They get it done correctly the first time. Professional efficient integrity!

My daughter called me that her car would not start (Im in Minnesota - Shes at Tech and it is -2F outside). She had it jumped once already so I suspected the battery was bad. I called the Muffler Shop and Doug sent one of the guys to the store she was at, jumped the car, followed her to the shop and replaced the battery. This was our second time to this shop and I would recommend them again.

Great shop; Always so polite and chatty, even early in the morning. Have always fit me in even though I am the worst at scheduling ahead of time, always have coffee and snacks, and they offer a shuttle service! They provide timely, fair service and are very pleasant to deal with.Despite their name of The Muffler Shop theyre very capable of handling jobs of all sizes. Ive had work ranging from wheel bearings to head gaskets (Subaru, am I right?) done with no problems. Theyre extremely accommodating to local students (myself) by providing rides to & from campus/home.P.S. Their complementary sweet popcorn is excellent.

I have been going to them for years, and they always offer friendly, reliable service with competitive rates.

I have been going here for years and I have always been happy with the results. When my children come to visit they all have used them for repairs. The people that work there are honest and I consider them as special. Two weeks ago they saved me thousands of dollars by calling Toyota of Rhinelander and found My truck was under a frame replacement recall . The Tundra is a 2001 and is being repaired, loaner Vehicle was free. Oh yes, my exhaust leak was repaired before I drove down to Rhinelander. Thanks you both for amazing outcomes.

Fantastic and honest work for an unbeatable price. The diagnosis is fast and on point, and I always seem to pull out of the lot having spent a lot less money and waiting a lot less time than I thought I would. I was always told what my options were and given a good rough cost upfront for each. I would never get this kind of service downstate, with them even offering to drive you to and from the shop sometimes.I have brought in multiple issues. What I thought was a bad wheel bearing was fixed with some rotor adjustment and a wheel rotation. Engine issues turned out to be bad spark plugs (and ultimately bad coil packs). They put in the plugs so I could get it up and running again and then I ordered and put in the coil packs myself.

This is a trustworthy shop that goes the extra mile. I now have all of my company vehicles as well as personal vehicles serviced here. Extremely polite and approachable folks. They deserve 6 stars!

I took my car to the Ford dealership for an estimate of repair. They wanted $1,500 for a part plus 6 hours of labor. I wouldnt have gotten out of there for under $2,000. Furthermore, the Ford service dealership had my car for 3 days just for the estimate. I started to shop around because I wasnt happy with the customer service, and the prices they had to offer.Being a college student at Michigan Tech I wasnt sure which places to bring my vehicle to considering my lack of knowledge for the area. I decided to try The Muffler Shop, and I have had a wonderful experience. I brought my car in on the scheduled day and within a few hours they had an estimate on the repair bill. The made sure to do the repair the most cost effective way without compromising safety and reliability. They ended up finding more things wrong with my vehicle then the Ford Dealership did. And here is the kicker... They were able to fix my vehicle for a fraction of the cost... roughly $380. For a college kid, you cant beat it.Furthermore, the staff was also very pleasant, nice, and truthful. I will be referring them to everyone and move all my business to their shop.A++

Tim and his team were exceptional. I took a roadtrip/vacation to Houghton and my exhaust pipe fell off on the way. They got my car in and fixed it so fast, it feels like I didnt lose a second of my trip. And now my car is running even better than the day I bought it!

I’ve have indirectly through my fiancé experienced the prompt and friendly service provided by them many times. And today I brought in my 2003 Trailblazer to get inspected as I had been dealing with a couple problems. The issue ended up being a bit more expensive than I anticipated (only because of the issue, not the price of their service) yet the gentleman offered me a flexible option to take care of my payment and also rushed my job as I was in great need of my vehicle by the end of the day. They were friendly, polite and prompt. I would highly reccomend.Also, I recommend them to students! I’ve heard and seen examples of students being taken advantage of from local shops, but these guys are honest!Nice doing business with you all! I will be back.

If I could give this business more than 5 stars I would. They are HONEST and POLITE. They have gone out of their way to help us out in a bind more than once, and they were very clear about their process, etc. This is the only place I will go for auto repair in Houghton.

I take all my car problems here! They are always so friendly and willing to give me rides to and from a destination if I need one and willing to describe the problem in detail. They are reasonably priced and can always get you in on time! When I call for an appointment I usually get in within 3 days at the most, and they will have your car fixed THAT day! I have gotten my muffler fixed here along with changing my tires, repairing my engine coil, getting new brake pads, and so on. Not to mention, once they repair your car they usually leave a treat in your car :) I definitely recommend The Muffler Shop!

Had to go in to get a serpentine belt fixed. The whole shop was super friendly and very informative. Had it done in a couple hours for a reasonable price, including inspecting other problems. Definitely will go back again if needed.UPDATE: Ive gone back multiple times now to fix all my gaskets. They fixed everything and threw in a set of winter wiper blades. They also check out a smell coming from the engine for free. Its the small things they did to make them a great, friendly place.

Repaired Flex exhaust tube, instead of replacing catalytic converter system, which Precision Automotive wanted to do. Saved $445.....Honest, and knowledgeable service, with a nice manager...always busy, but great places usually are!

This shop was great to work with. I am from out of state, but my son needed some exhaust work done on the car he had at college in Houghton. The shop gave him rides back and forth from campus, got the work done quickly, and had reasonable prices.

What great service. While on vacation in the UP we were in need of a new muffler. We tried several places in Munising and Marquette and were told we couldnt get an appointment for 4 to 8 days. Called ahead to Houghton and Tim made sure we were taken care of properly. They loaned us a van to visit the Mineral Museum while they replaced our muffler. The bill came in under their initial estimate. They had our car ready and waiting, even hooked up our utility trailer for us. To top it off there were 4 bags of delicious gourmet popcorn in our car, compliments of Tim at The Muffler Shop.Thank you for the amazing service and hospitality!

Brought in my car to have them investigate a burning smell. In less than an hour, they discovered the source of the problem, a loose valve which was leaking oil, and took care of it. They didnt even charge me for the full hour! Great service!

This is a professional shop. If anyone is in need of top quality auto diagnostics, repair/service, detailed billing, and a friendly goodbye, this is the shop.

I brought my Subaru in in July of 2015. Service technician advised all 4 brake calipers to be replaced, but could service 2 of them with what they had in stock. I was initially satisfied with their work. In January of 2017 (16 months later), the same 2 brake calipers that were serviced by the Muffler Shop had completely failed on a 300 mile trip. I was left stranded, needing a tow truck to limp into the nearest repair shop for servicing. Turns out the 2 replaced calipers had completely seized, dropped the brake pads, and destroyed the rotors. This required all 4 sets of pads and rotors, and 2 calipers to be replaced on the spot so that I could make it back home. Im fairly upset having spent $570 at their shop and had that turned into another $800+ repair.

Would not take my vehicle there again.Took my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for a chronic power steering problem that was causing belt squeel. After another shop replacing the pump with one that was defective I bought a brand new pump online and installed it myself. After the swap the squeel persisted, so I took my vehicle to The Muffler Shop to have a professional fix the problem, I told them what I had done already and that it my just be a mis-aligned pulley.After 15 minutes there they assured me that the pulleys were properly aligned and said they would look deeper.After an hour I got a call from them saying that they were going to refuse to work on my car due to age and possible problems deeper in the power steering system, needless to say I was none too happy with that response.I took my car to another shop in town and told them it probably needed another new pump, after 45 minutes they told me it was a mis-aligned pulley (something The Muffler Shop told me was fine) re-aligned it and I havent had a problem since.The only reason The Muffler Shop gets two stars instead of one is the fact that they were extremely friendly and didnt charge me to look at the vehicle (and rightly so)

Despite what the name suggests, if your muffler falls off your car and it is not the cars only problem, they WILL NOT put a muffler on your car until all other issues that they found are being taken care of.
