Like being lied to? Like terrible quality work completed weeks after its supposed to? This is your place!!!
I took my truck in for service because the transmission was acting up. I had been referred to Cottman by a couple of my friends and coworkers. I was able to meet the owner in Cary (before that location closed) and he assured me they could fix it. The Garner location did a great job. I am happy my truck is back on the road with no more transmission issues. Jeff (the Garner store manager) was good to work with and honest about everything up front. I would recommend this shop to others if your transmission needs repair.
I took my car there for a diagnostic to check the transmission they had the car Monday and Tuesday I called Monday afternoon and Jeff the Mgr. said he was short handed and it would be Tues morning before he could do the diagnostic well I had not heard from him by 3 pm Tues. so I called and Jeff said it would cost $7,000.00 for a re-manufactured transmission, I thought that was to much so I went and picked my car up, to there credit they did not charge for the diagnostic, out of curiosity i called a local VW Dealer and was quoted on a BRAND NEW not re-manufactured transmission total $5,100.00 total parts, labor and tax out the door $5100.00 I was upset then so I call Daniel the owner as a courtesy to let him know what happen he said that Jeff had quoted me the wrong price by mistake and that he could do it for $5,000.00 also Yeah right he just threw his own Manager under the bus. They are very nice people and friendly too just BEWARE.
I purchased oil change coupons from Amazon Local. The coupons were 3 oil changes for $30.00. WHAT a MISTAKE!!! The first time i went the mechanic didnt know how to drive standard and the manager had to pull the car into the garage. He overfilled my oil and I had to drain it because it wasnt convenient for me to go back. The second time they overfilled my oil by an exorbitant amount. I drained 1.5 Quarts and its still overfilled. Its spewing oil out of my oil filter and all over my engine. On top of all that they still charge over $10.00 for shop fees every time i use the coupon. If they cant change oil properly, I dont know how they mange to fix a transmission!STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!
Had my truck taken there to get fixed, i should have read the reviews before i did but since i was too busy working i just went with what was close to my house. The job cost more than double of what they should have charged me, but i guess Im to blame for not doing my research. Now multiple problems that i didnt have before are an issue just a few days after it left theyre shop. I wouldnt be surprised if these guys are sabotaging peoples car on purpose to keep screwing them out of money. Do your self a great favour and dont make the mistake i did by taking your car to these unprofessional crooks.
Weve taken our car here a couple times now and LOVE it! The first time I took it up because our head gasket went bad. They fixed it for a reasonable price and in a reasonable amount of time. There was a slight problem with the repair (tiny little o-ring moved out of place) I called them up and let them know, they had me bring it right back in and fixed the issue immediately, and were very apologetic. Weve since taken it back for an oil change and are about to go back again for another oil change. I love that they dont try to push a bunch of repairs on me that I neither want or can afford like other places do. They seem very friendly and knowledgable. Ive already recommended them to all my friends and plan to use them for any auto repairs in the future.
Very unethical business practices! An absolute horrible experience. I took my car in to get some idea of what I might be paying on my transmission, and he said he had no way of knowing until I paid the $300 to look into the transmission. After I came back, they gave me a quote of $3000, so I told them that Id rather go look for a cheaper quote. At which point he informed me that the transmission was taken apart and the only way to get my car back was to get the transmission rebuilt there! I was incredibly upset with this tactic, but I went ahead and let them work on it because I had no other choice besides leave without a transmission in my car. Once I got my car back, the car had a wiring issue that drained the battery! I took it back and they said that it wasnt their fault even though the car had no problem with the wiring before. They told me I needed to pay 3 hours worth of labor from them just to figure out if the problem was indeed their fault! I couldnt believe it! So I took my car to another mechanic and Ill never visit Cottman Transmission of Garner again. This was the most dishonest repair shop Ive ever visited, maybe the other Cottman transmission places are fine, but the managers and the owners at the one in garner are very dishonest. Also, the customers who went in behind me had issues as well, so I know Im not an isolated incident.
I got a transmission installed that I didnt need by the same owner but in Cary. I was robbed of 3 grand. This was verified by 4 other mechanics, one was another Cottman mechanic. Both of his stores are closed, no wonder, I guess he was running out of money. Complained to the home office, but they are a joke. Social media is a powerful tool. I wanted to give minus 10 stars. Hope he is broke.
I recently used Cottoman Transmission for my 2003 Ford Escape. My summed up experience? I will NOT be using them again. What I was told would take a couple days (3 max) took an entire week. I started out with the same problem Jeff (review below) had, $400 to even find out what the problem was, then I had no choice other than to let them fix my car because putting it back together would involve fixing it. I was quoted $3200, made sure that included absolutely everything, I even asked 3 times, Thats everything, even whats been done so far? When I went to pick the car up, they tried to charge me $3600. I only paid $3200 but they are still after that $400.Money aside, The car is almost worse now then when it went into their shop. Its slower to get going, is leaking from a hose they supposedly fixed, and now when I put it into park, the engine cuts off! What happens when it does that when the car is in gear??I will NOT be going back to Cottomans and I do NOT recommend it for ANYONE!
I had my 02 Ford Explorer towed to Cottman 3 weeks ago on a Sunday. Mark from Cottman had me on the phone by 8:15 Monday morning. I spent a few minutes telling Mark what had happened and asked him to take a look at things and let me know what my options were. Mark called me the following morning with bad news, but was upfront and honest about my options. I could either let them go into my transmission and try to repair it or we could order one. My husband and I decided to go ahead and replace the transmission. Before lunchtime on Tuesday, Mark had given the the final price, tax included, for the work being done on my truck, he also told me that it would be ready to go either late Thursday afternoon or early Friday morning. Mark called me by 8:30 Friday morning and let me know that my Explorer was ready to go. The price was a few cents less than he had quoted me, due to tax changes, my truck was ready when he said it would be, and my truck is running great! My transmission has a 3 year warranty, Ford didnt even do that because they knew these transmissions were crap. A week after Cottman repaired my truck, the service engine light came on, and it was running a bit rough. I took it back to Cottman thinking it was something related to the transmission (because lets face it, thats my luck) Mark had his mechanic pull my truck in right away and take a look at it, the darn thing needed a coil pack. Mark and his mechanic put a used coil pack in trying to get me going but it didnt quite fit, so they put the old one back on my truck and made sure that it would get me home safely until my husband could put a new coil pack in. Mark didnt charge me a thing to look at my truck that morning. He did it out of the goodness of his heart. How long has it been since any other mechanic looked at someones vehicle out of the goodness of their hearts? I definitely recommend Cottman transmission, for transmission repair and any other service they can handle. These guys are awesome! Oh and for the folks complaining about the prices...Transmissions are expensive to order from the supplier, they are even more expensive coming from Ford. These mechanics are certified and licensed, they arent $8.00 an hour Jiffy Lube employees. You dont work for free, they shouldnt either. My Mom was a service adviser for Ford for several years...this repair at a Ford dealership would have run me $4000-$5000, I saved over $1000 using Cottman.
I came in to have my brakes fixed and they were very nice, fixed my car quickly, and the cost was less than what I thought it was going to be!
BEWARE!!!! I wish i could give this service center a negative. Do NOT go here unless you like bending over so they can screw you with high prices and horrible service. This was the worst experience i have ever had at an auto care center. The employees were lazy and not doing their job. The owner offered a discount from his online website and then went back on his offer. He gave me a low cap of $2000 for a transmission repair and then skyrocketed the price. Very sloppy work was done. They had illegal immigrants working there when we could have Americans working. Will be letting the BBB about this business so they can shut them down.
I recommend Cottmans of Garner and Cary to anyone in the RDU area. The owner Daniel and his staff Kevin in Garner and Brad in Cary went over and beyond to make sure my transmission was fixed properly after experiencing some warranty issues with a Cottmans franchise in Maryland. Customer Service goes a long way and I can say thats exactly what they did.... Thumbs up.... W. Fleming
