I just found my new favorite place to eat in Galveston. After hearing a lot of positive things about Maceos, I finally had a chance to try it out this afternoon. Everyone that worked there had a smile on their face and I could tell they genuinely cared. The gumbo is the best I’ve had on the island and you’re going to have a hard time finding a better muffuletta in Texas. The whole establishment just has a really great vibe. I’ll be coming back very soon. Thanks, yall.

This little delicatessen grocery store is serving food in a couple of tables inside and a nice patio outside. The quality of food is absolutely top notch, including gumbos, poboys, crawfish pies and cevice. The young men serving are kind and generous, this is the place where I want to be next time I’ll be in Galveston!

Fun shopping experience on 6/14/21. Friendly folks. Lots of items to look at and buy. Grabbed some items to stock up the kitchen. Want to try their menu items. A very nice stop.

First time visit. Shrimp and crab gumbo was so good. Loved shopping for spices and also got a jar of tomato gravy to take home. Son in law got the meatball sub and it was really really good. Daughter got red beans and rice and it was very flavorful and had pieces of sausage throughout. Would definitely go back.

What a cool place! All kinds of spices and sauces, vinegars and oils, if you cant find it here, youre not looking hard enough. Lol!

With such great food quality and also a large spice selection, its a foodies little paradise hidden off the strand.

This place is a mini grocery and spice store with a food counter. Hot food is good and the deli counter can make you a picnic to go.

Wow, just wow.. The food is fantastic I had what I believe was an olive pesto on the bottom of a sandwich and it was the most amazing thing ever. The owner is so wonderful I got to meet her briefly and she brought platters of these amazing sandwiches for a funeral. You absolutely owe it to yourself to stop off here if youre in Galveston! I say that because I owe it to myself really.. man I did not eat nearly enough.. Next time Im taking a platter to go! I havent had a cut of meat like that since I lived in Dallas and worked at New York Subway (they got sued and had to change their name to New York Sub!)

One of my favorite places on the island. Maceo and his daughter always make me feel like family when I visit. It’s always my first and last stop! Everything is incredible. Take it from this chef of 25 years, you can’t do better! Go! Now! What are you waiting for?

They have everything you need and some things you didnt know you needed. We went in not knowing exactly what we were looking for and the staff was super friendly and informative with helping us track down what we wanted. Will definitely be back.

Best, most authentic muffaletta I have ever had! Red beans and rice was perfectly seasoned, and the cannoli was to die for. Their staff is super sweet as well! JUST GOOOO!

This place never fails to impress me. While the menu is small the flavor is enormous. The gumbo is my favorite but there is nothing bad on the menu.

They had so many great spices. My husband and I really enjoyed this place. They dont have any prices on the spices, which would help to sell. When you ask the staff the answer is They are different prices. Which pricing on the products would help tremendously.

No visit to the island is complete without a meal and spice shopping at Maceos. Try the gumbo...get Connie to give you recipes using their special spice blends! Worth it, I promise.

You HAVE to try the muffslettas! Also try the potato salad (ask for it warm) and the meatball sandwich. The fragrance of spices and the atmosphere take you back to old Galveston. If you are looking for where the locals go, this is the place!

Wonderful place, great muffalattas!

Had an enjoyable time looking at all the grocery items for sale. They had some incredible spices to peruse as well. It appeared to have a bustling lunch counter business as well. Compared to some spices... these were affordable, larger containers/shakers.

Excellent muffaletta, the shrimp etouffe was good, and they carry lots of interesting Italian, asian, and other various ingredients in addition to the wall of spices. Definitely worth a visit.

Fabulously authentic old-style hole in wall, preparing muffalettas, great breakfast/brunch dishes New Orleans style. Good spicy bloody mary, although missing the veggies (and bacon) of the now now standard presentation. Amazing variety of spices and Italian specialties. Only a handul of seats, very friendly staff and owners.

Such a great place to visit, often. Fresh food available and so many products for sale on the shelves. Pasta, sauces, spices, oil, sweets, and everything else! We make a visit down there once a month.

The muffuletta was so good! It was huge. I got the half and I could barely finish it. Im not really a big fan of olives but I liked the olive spread. The bread tastes homemade. It comes with pepperoncini peppers and a pickle spear. Theres also a basket full of bags of chips by the counter.The store smells really good because of the spices. The employees were really nice as well. I would recommend.

Lots of great spice options. Looking for something hard to find, they likely have it. They also have a few salt-free spice mixes, yay!!! King cakes during Mardi Gras. Big ones and little ones.

Love them. I drive from Houston when I can to get my favorite spices, vinegars and oils there. They are the best! Wish I had purchased some mortadella and salami when I was there yesterday. Always my first stop in Galveston! Maceo’s fed my family all day! We took shrimp salad and pasta salad to the beach with a hibiscus tea for lunch and picked up meatballs for dinner and some All Season spice on our way back home. Everything we had was absolutely delicious! Concetta Maceo is a gem in the community and makes this place feel like home to everyone. Thank you Maceos!

Awesome place to go for some good food. My boss took me and co-worker here on a Tuesday for some spaghetti and meatballs.It was some damn good spaghetti and meatballs. The next time I am in Galveston for any type of vacation, I will be back. Thank you guys for good food and awesome staff.

We drive from Oklahoma 1 to 2 x a year, when we do we make sure to refill our spice cabinets with Maceo Spices.

For the best muffalettas this side of the Mississippi, go to Maceos. They will make you go home and have a food coma nap for 3 hours. They also have a plethora of spices, italian goods, and Italian meats and cheeses. Sunday Brunch is good if you beat the rush. Also they have resident chickens.

Great little place to eat a hearty sandwich. It is very small inside with limited seating; so I wouldnt recommend going here if you needed to have a private conversation with your friend because there is no privacy with the current seating arrangement. But if you dont have to have a super serious conversation and you just want to eat some good food and smell some fragrant spices that fill the entire shop, then go here.

Went with out of town guests. Tried the muffuletta (12.00 1/2 sandwich) skimpy on meat/cheese, but the bun was perfect.

Was looking for something different than our typical Galveston seafood meal and this was the perfect place. Had the muffuletta, it was delicious. Will be going back for Meatball Sub and Po Boy!

My wife and I took our kids down to Galveston Island earlier this week, and one of our favorite stops is Maceo Spice & Import Company located just off the strand. My wife and I really enjoy getting a Muffaletta, and our kids split chicken and waffles. The food is great. It definitely has a local feel, the food is great, and you can shop for spices and other imports. You will want to stop by Maceo Spice & Import Company the next time youre visiting the island.

The gumbo is as good as homemade, fabulous mufalotta, and the best NOLA roast beef sandwich this sude of Mothers!

Go for the smells, if nothing else! Spices, plus the scent of whatever is on the days menu. Yum! Grocery item selection is interesting, and has several favorite specialty items. Food is great... particularly fond of their red beans and rice.

When I visit my home town Galveston this is a must stop. The food is great. The spices are the best you can find. Ronnie has that old school class that brings back the greatest days of the Island. What I buy here allows me to make great dishes when I get back to Waco. I love it.

Red beans and rice, gumbo, fresh bread are all the best in town. Staff always friendly. They have a long and interesting history in Galveston.

Took a field trip to Maceos Spice Emporium and OH... MY... GOD BECKY!!! They have EVERYTHING under the Sun a restaurant or cook could EVER NEED smashed into this shop! The smells were heavenly! Gonna go back tomorrow to eat Muffalatas, CANT WAIT!

The 1/4 Muffaleta Combo with gumbo or red beans & rice is a great lunch. The muffaleta had a great olive flavor and was a good size.The shrimp & crab gumbo was thick and had a deep rich flavor. A good sized bowl with lots of ingredients.The red beans & rice was also thick and full of flavor. My wife, who makes a great red beans & rice herself, couldnt stop commenting on it. She even asked if it read available by the gallon. It is.

We always stop here when coming to Galveston, it is an amazing home in the wall place. It is family run and they are the most friendly family you will ever meet. You have to get the muffaletta, legend has it that the great grandfather invented it. My wife also loves buying things in the spice shop which had a great selection.

In my years of visiting Galveston I had never heard of Maceo. It has made my list of places I need to visit every time.We got muffuletta, Italian, and catbird sandwiches with a bowl of gumbo to share around the table. They were all great and each person a had a favorite. The apricot peach iced tea they were serving was so good, flavored but not overpowering, we had to get some to take home.
