Very easy buying experience. CarMax provided the easiest most relaxed car buying experience I have ever had. love how CarMax has tons of cars to choose from so I don’t have to hop from dealership to dealership looking for what I want.I was able to browse all the vehicles I wanted without having to chit chat with a car salesman hanging around. I was even able to test drive the vehicle on my own. I will highly recommend the CarMax buying experience to anyone I know who is looking to buy a car.
I like that I can go look at the cars available with no pressure from a jacked up salesman. Only problem I had was the volkswagen tiguan I wanted had no title and they could not tell me how long it would be available. I found another one at ourisman vw Rockville and Im going to look at it oh and it has a title.
The appraisal process was very quick and professional. The appraised value was much higher than my expectations and competitors.I am very pleased with the service provided and quick turn around during appraisal and sale process.

I went into the Gaithersburg store to purchase a Black 2019 Chrysler 300s I had on hold. My financing had already been approved so I just needed to complete the paperwork. Prior to leaving, I asked the salesman if the vehicle would be full of gas and detailed, and he responded “Yes.” Prior to leaving the dealership, I informed him that the car was dirty inside and out, and he said to me that they cleaned the car. It was so blatantly obvious that it hadn’t been cleaned, but I didn’t argue with him and I just left the dealership. This was completely unprofessional from CarMax and the salesman who allowed me to drive away with a dirty vehicle purchase from CarMax.

I’d say 4.5 stars. Got a great car and super warranty, but swapping out the financing from what CarMax offered when I purchased (about 5.5%) vs what I could get from my bank (1.64%) was a little painful in terms of the process. I’d say know your financing going into it — I just assumed they’d give me the best deal, or at least in the ballpark.If you buy an expensive car with expensive repairs, get the warranty through them. Done it before, worked out great, and that’s why I purchased with them again.
My sons first car purchase. He was excited when they said it was ready. Got in drove off. When he got home I looked. Bird poop on the hood. Dash and console obviously dusty Carpets not recently vacuumed. Other areas obviously not cleaned. Took a few pics. Called carmax but always get sent to voicemail. Do not recommend buying there. Not the best experience!!!
Very efficient, easy to select car nationally, finance without issues, and white glove service. This is my second car that I have bought from CarMax and I am happy with the overall experience. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to purchase a car look here first.

I bought a car and ended up returning it within the 30 day test period. CarMax was amazingly easy to deal with and made the process so transparent and easy. So nice compared to most any other dealership. I have absolutely no complaints and would use them again.
Didnt go over the basics of the car. I started my car sale onine. Just pulled the car in front and didnt tell me how the car was supposed to start. I have to wave him over upon test driving. I am guessing he assumed I knew.
This is the best time to sell a vehicle. We got over Kelly blue book trade-in value and it was the best local offer. We had no issue getting the initial offer amount from an honest online submission. Note that compared to a private sale, theres no need to do any type of refurbishing work (tires, detailing) as it wont affect the offer.Go during the day if you can, and make an appointment with your initial offer. It was busy enough early afternoon.
Classic bait and switch. My father got a 9k online quote for his car. In pretty decent shape he went in and they dont even take the car into the garage. Quick look and they say theres a few dents (smaller than a quarter) and a rattle sound occasionally. 7k offer. Like their garage is going to cost them 2k if they find a problem. No... the online quote is just go get you there then they bank of the foot in the door technique to rip you off.
Everybody was so helpful, friendly and fast! They gave me $200 more than another used car buyer that was within 2 miles of their place.
This is not our first experience with Carmax, which is why we return. We were welcomed by Cristian Flores Cruz who was wonderful to work with. We felt no pressure, and were encouraged by Cristian to be sure of our choice. Thank you Cristian! I love my (new) Toyota RAV4!
I wanted to love this place so much. Car buying part was cool. I even took the original back for another based off size. It was great up until I had an appointment for repairs and a detail on my vehicle. The first time was a waste of time they made me come back because they had no loaners.(unprepared) I’m still not upset at this point. Following week I return to have my work done 8/16/21 it’s a week later and the car hasn’t been touched!!! I was told a day or two tops. Plus I HAD TO CALL FOR AN UPDATE MYSELF. Furthermore a woman from finance or wherever named AMANDA is calling me everyday threatening my paperwork won’t go through without my car inspection. IVE EXPLAINED ITS BEEN DONE BUT CARMAX HAS MY CAR WITH MY INSPECTION STICKER ON THE WINDOW. DC DOES NOT RECEIVE PAPERWORK Only a sticker in the window of a proven PASSED INSPECTION. She argues that’s not true. I called repairs yesterday to talk to Brad in service and he says he can vouch that I have it done. But he also asked why didn’t I take a pic. How was I supposed to know u guys would have my car a whole week later. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND WILL BE CALLING MANAGEMENT TODAY CONCERNING THIS MATTER. All of this is a huge issue for me and this has definitely outweighed the good experience I received when purchasing the car.
Very well organized. Staff knows exactly what to do. Appraisal is very professional. Collaborators follow you step by step during all process. In less than an hour I left the building with my check. I will recommend to my friends.
Used car sales have very bad reputation. Many times after I visit used car dealership, I understand why.CarMax is different, personally I never bought a car from them, but I sold them a few. Every time I had great experience. I never was pressured to sell mine or buy another car from them.Price was always fair, I checked priced offered with others and at best I was able to get is 200 more difference. But I still sold my car to CarMax, because I trust them more than a small guy in shady office who may not even have the money to back the check he writes you.Some people complain that it takes longer than promised to sell or to buy a car, I dont get them, you are not at the mall buying or selling your coffee maker, you are buying or selling couple thousands or tens of thousands car, show me one place where you can do it in an hour.Even if you could, personally I prefer thorough people who make sure that sale is correct and you want have problems in the future.Even if you was promised one hour turnaround, what about a person who walked in two minutes in front of you?I have been long customer, customer from the days when Circuit City owned these stores more than 20 years ago...
With CAMAX it was a seamless process from start to finish. Very organized. I was very impressed. Everyone involved was kind and courteous. I definitely felt I was given a fair price my for car. Great experience overall and I would not hesitate to use them again and recommend to others.
Received online offer that was then reduced by almost half due to perceived engine repair issue. Had mentioned issue with check engine light being on when doing online appraisal and this should have been reflected in online offer.

It was great and seamless. I went in with the instant offer I did on my car. They appraised my car and gave me the exact offer! I was expecting them to hassle the price like more used car sales people but they quickly and efficiently did everything. Sounds too good to be true but actually that was my experience. Even the sales people there didn’t bother me which made it good. I may consider them again when looking for a replacement car. He recognized that the car was everything I had described and said CarMax would honor the offer stated in the email. I was in and out in less than 2 hours. What more could I ask? Well done!
CarMax surpassed all of my expectations. The process was seamless and quick. The staff was friendly and professional. I was expecting to wait for five hours. Instead, I was out within an hour-and-a-half with a very generous offer.

It was perfect the whole experience was great!!! Until the Car STOP WORKING after 2 weeks I felt like it was lemon and couldn’t believe this was happening but I call Carnax back they had it towed and working on it now!! Awesome service just wish the car was more inspected

The customer service here was unmatched by far, I came in asked to test drive it, when I got back and walked the lot there wasn’t any pressure to buy anything, then when I decided to buy this civic and the process was taking a while they offered me some coupons for the inconveniences, ask for CJ or Jay they will take good care of you! CAR MAX needs a larger inventory. The sales guys can only do so much. Theyre pleasant and patientMaybe needing incentive. With easier access to a larger available inventory could sell more. I was there on a cool rainy day. Not Fair?

Prepare to be baffled by the sheer number of employees running around this place, and wonder how the heck it can be this slow, disorganized, and inefficient. Had a quote for selling my vehicle in about 45 min, then was forced to wait for another 2 1/2 hours. For what!? You will leave feeling like hours were stolen from you - and they could seemingly care less. Extremely frustrating experience. Perhaps the worst-managed business office I’ve ever encountered.
CarMax sold me not only with the best car but with amazing service! Literally no pressure. I researched a few cars before arriving, the front rep directed me to the lot. I had not seen enough selection for the vehicle I was most interested in. As I was standing staring at my phone for other locations the rep asked do you need any help? I inquired do you have any additional brand of cars that I was looking for. Well, I had no idea that CarMax could ship cars to from their other locations. My rep Adam, allowed me to peruse through the online site of which I spotted the car, which was on the lot! I had missed it totally. Adam took me to the car, I reviewed the specs, went back to my car to think, came back in to look for Adam to asked what is my next step.... Adam was extremely thorough, polite and considerate. He provided my husband and I space to converse and come up with something that worked for us. Yes, I purchased the car with no red tape paperwork or headache with my trade in. Thank You CARMAX!
Overall, we had a very good experience selling our car to Carmax, The process took a bit longer (ok, more than twice as long) as we thought it might, although to be fair, we didnt ask ahead of time how long it might be. Interestingly, the appraisal and the paperwork both took about the same amount of time, with the paperwork seeming like it took longer than it should have. All in all, though, a positive experience.
Purchased my car here 4 month agoStarted hearing noises and took it back to be looked at was told it was nothing as well as my window since the window would not duplicate the delay they couldn’t fix it took it to Hyundai and they fixed the spark plugs however the sound was still there took it back to Hyundai the guy tells me that the engine is too big for the car that’s why it makes that noise…. Seriously if you could see my face took it to and outside mechanic who cleaned the fuel system took it back to CarMax after recording the window they and sound they fixed the window and said the sound could be coming from my license plate now by this time the sound has gradually gotten worse got it on camera and let CarMax here it they send it to Hyundai the same doors that said the engine was too big for the car only to say the sound can’t be duplicate Ed, myself and my fiancé heard the sound clearly and to tell you the truth it sounds like the transmission now here I am almost among later still with the loaner can’t get any one on the phone I call for Ed daily and the guy that answers all the time says he’s not there I called corporate and they say every other day we will call you in a few hours I think I need a lawyer at this point because md has a lemon law and I was sold a lemon
It was pretty smooth but took longer than I was told it would.
So I bought my car almost a year ago. since the moment I had it I knew there was something wrong with it but they kept on telling me that it was OK. finally the car almost left at me in the street and come to find out it was my transmission. it’s been problem after problem after problem and now I have a leak in my Panoramic window so every day that it’s raining there’s water coming into my car and they don’t think that’s important for me to get it fixed ASAP Never ever coming to get my car from them againTania fonseca

Awful experience selling my car through CarMax. Already had an appraisal from them earlier. Showed up to sell and the process took over 2 hours from when I arrived. No communication about the process and where things stand. They give a 45 minute estimate. Intake personnel appear to be the problem

Carmax was understaffed and the waits were longer than expected. Perhaps my fault for scheduling a Sunday afternoon appointment. Other than that, the experience was good. Staff was pleasant and competent. I feel I got a fair deal selling my car.

Sales guy was great, but check everything over before buying here. Ask for new tires and anything else that appears to be worn down. Tire blew out less than a week into having the car when I hit a curb in a residential area. Roadside assistance told me there was basically no sidewall on the tires and they’re dry rotted. Carmax made me come all the way back just to tell me they “pass safety inspection” sorry this happened.

Once I got my 2018 Prius Plug-In Hybrid home I realized the charging cable and adapter were missing. Two emails, three phone calls and 20 days later, still no cable. After a phone from the service department telling me a new cable and adapter were ready for pickup, I drove an hour each way to the CarMax only to be told upon arrival only the adapter was available, the cable had not been shipped. A day later I haven’t heard back regarding the Plug-In cable. I’m trying to keep an open mind, but this experience has been very annoying. I will say that Ed, the Service Manager at the CarMax, was very validating and apologetic about the problem. I would call him a Customer Whisperer, in fact. However, even Ed can’t change three weeks of ineptitude.
Everything was professional and easy. I would sell to CARMAX in the future as long as the price is right.

Well, I like the convenience of selling car to CarMax and avoid the hassle of dealing with a lots of fake buyers from Craigslist. The process is much more simpler and smoother than when you want to directly advertise and sell your car. However, their offers are really low; if you have time and patience, you can sell your car much higher in Craigslist.Another thing is that the lady on the phone told me it will take about 15 mins to finalize the paperwork, but the lady at the office said it will be around 1 hour.Update: well, they kept me waiting for around 1.5 hour to buy my car $1,000 lower than the market value. Isn’t that interesting!
Traded in my Lincoln and was offered a very fair price. I said to myself, who are these people offering me good money on a trade in. What planet are you all from, don’t ya know you’re supposed to try and steal it from me?!Then they let me drive my dream car! The staff was so relaxed and helpful and not your typical let me sell you a car you baby faced no it all. 10/10 will be back

HiThis is the 2nd car I’ve purchased from Carmax in as many years (I’m pleased). Bear in mind that Carmax generally, but not always, has higher quality used cars than conventional dealers. The formerly 7-day (now 30 day) 100% money back/return the car w/no questions asked policy gives you plenty of time to have your own mechanic check out the car (pre-purchase inspection - PPI) AFTER you buy to give you confidence. Your salesman will call before the 30 day period is up and ask if you’re keeping the car (I am). The optional warranties offered are worth every penny.I am somewhat of a “car guy” so I’m comfortable looking under the hood and under the car to make my own assessment, but I relied on someone I know in the business who ran the VIN of my car to check the maintenance history with the manufacturer’s dealership database so I knew it’s history better than Carmax did, even though they had a Carfax report on the car. I deducted a star because my mechanic found a leaking rear shock absorber that Carmax should have seen and replaced during its own inspections and servicing before it was sold. They are replacing the shock this week as part of a free 90 day warranty which covered the shock - no charge. Also, an unknown device (possibly a transmitter) was attached to each of the two remote keys that came with the car. The salesman said he’d look into what those transmitters were but he never got back to me. I’ll have to figure that out on my own.

This is a great place to buy a car if you have someone’s stolen identity. Don’t worry about fake driver’s licenses, the scanners don’t pick them up. Just make sure the persons identity that was stolen lives half way across the country that way they don’t ask questions. Matter of fact, they don’t ask many questions at all as long as they get that sale! They are more than happy to explain the reasons why someone would buy from their location rather than a thriving metropolitan area with way more options where the identity was stolen from. Great job CarMax!
Standard 10k offer, like everyone else gets
I went this past Friday to purchase a car, really not a great experience. The agent at the beginning seemed great and helpful. I was told take stroll in the lot to see if I saw anything I liked. I saw some potential cars I liked. But I one specific car got my attention. I asked the agent about it. She stated let me check, on the car I said thank you. When she came back to tell me that the car was available she made the comment, you do realized that this is a luxury car! And it may bring the payments up from what you where originally looking for. I was a bit thrown away by it. I think I know how much money I have on me and what car I want to buy. But carmax I had half the money in cash on me that day to buy that car. Trust me I will never purchase a car from you over a again!
Came to sell my wifes car and an associate came to us withing a minute. Only 1.5 hours from when we got there to have a check in our hands. Got a great price and happy with the overall visit.
I am very please with the customer care I received from Carmax staff . The sales representative Abib Asghedom was very pleasant and worked with me in terms of the vehicle I was looking for according to my budget.
Apparently the concept of an appointment is irrelevant - took almost 45 minutes past our appointment time to look at our car, and then an additional 45 minutes to process everything once the verification was complete. A little disappointed in how long things take.

Got an online appraisal and an appointment to come in at 3pm. They told me it would be an hour long wait. It is currently 5pm and they told me it would be another 30min. Would not recommend.

Clearly that goes unread but I am happy to add to this google review.In short, I had an appointment, was made to wait ~30 minutes only to be told that no one can assist me. After that there was no follow up, request to reschedule etc. I took my business elsewhere.
I was told the entire process lasted 1 hour. However, it took almost 2 1/2 hours. When I went to ask about 1 hour 10 minutes that how long it will take, the staff was rude and sent me to wait outside. Not even care when I said I just want to have an idea of what to do as my wife had come to pick me up (since we were selling the other car) and our toddler daughter was sleeping. The price for the car was ok, but the staff didn’t really made the experience pleasant at all
