After traveling over 3000 miles from Oregon to visit my father in law who was ill in MD. My Roadtrek 170 had a check engine light come on. I was scouring the local listings for a mechanic when a family member told me about Hillmuths of Gaithersburg. My father in law had taken his vehicles there over the years. I called and was able to take my van in the next morning. By 2:30 pm that same day, my van was up & running! The folks at Hillmuths took such great care of both my van & I. When I picked the van up the gentleman working the front desk & the mechanic both came out & shared the information on my vehicles repairs. I drove to many authorized State Inspection Stations the week of 8/23/21. The outside temperature reached the upper 95 plus degrees🥵‼️ Then I was referred by an officer to checkout HILLMUTH Auto Care. I called HILLMUTH to inquire. I was told to arrive by 8:15 A.M. I arrived at 7:55 A.M. The Service Desk Attendant, John welcomed me into their A/C cooled, clean waiting area. John took my keys and information. He stated it would take about an hour.I enjoyed seeing customers come and go. This gave me ample opportunity to see the rapport between long time customers and their satisfaction with the service performed on their vehicles.Less than an hour later, the State Inspection had been completed! I thanked John for the conversation he and I had in between customers. I also took a pic of the plaque proudly displayed on their wall in the waiting area. It quoted a Scriptural verse from Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men that they will see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Well, that sealed the deal! While I was waiting, I thought to myself, ‘I would love to experience this type of care and concern at other places I frequent throughout the DMV, (DC, Maryland, and Virginia)!’I told John I would keep him and HILLMUTH Auto Care in my prayers moving forward! I went to Gaithersburg shop to get my AC system checked based on their mailer Id recently received. Right off the bet they said my car needs Freon gas before they can diagnose anything. Not sure why they wouldnt honor the mailer offer and insisted I have to pay roughly 250 - 280 just to know what the problem is.This falls under false advertisement and I wanted to point that out.

I was very pleased on how professional the staff were and amazed on the quick the services I got from them. I was in and out just like that! Had to give a 4 stars because if I’m being completely honest with myself there price for an alignment was a little much for me but otherwise everything else was great!

The technician at the front desk was knowledgeable, cordial and very helpful. I needed some serious repairs and it was not safe to drive my car. He let me know the timeframe needed to repair my car. They are always great at providing updates, being very specific about the condition of your vehicle and what needs to be done vs what doesnt. I take my Bentley here instead of the dealer because I believe its the same level of service without the huge upcharges. No need to take your car anywhere else but here.

Unfortunately, there is not a rating of LESS THAN ZERO stars because that is what the service I received from Hillmuth Automotive deserves.I called to ask if they could fix a specific issue with my vehicle. It was a specialty item and I knew that not everyone could do it. Hillmuth said yes, they could fix it, so I brought the car in. I was not surprised the next day when I was called back to pick up the car because they could not fix it. I was surprised when I was billed $141.72. Hillmuth explained that the bill was for the evaluation of the vehicle, the evaluation stated I needed the repair I originally inquired about. They graciously deducted $49.95 so I only had to pay $91.77 for the privilege of being told what I already knew. As a result, I would NOT RECOMMEND Hillmuth Automotive unless you wish to give them money for nothing. Literally.In the end, I was able to get the car fixed at a reputable establishment where I paid a total of $150.00 for the entire job.UPDATE:After posting this review I did hear back from owner who apologized for the incident. He also refunded the balance of my payment and made every effort to rectify the situation. I was completely satisfied with the response and I consider the matter resolved.Clarifications to owner reply: I authorized a repair of the vehicle which I was assured could be done, not a diagnostic, the problem had already been diagnosed. Knowing it was a specialized job, I called in advance to to ensure the shop could do the repair. The team did not apologize, nor was I satisfied when I left. I did call and speak with a manager after the incident. I was told that someone would get back to me. I waited and waited but never heard from anyone.

I would not recommend them terrible workmanship replaced fuel pump it failed after a week then they say its the fuel tank that’s the problem they say it’s rusted because its old if that’s the case why was I not told that the first time when they replaced the pump I could have payed for both of them the first time but no now I have to pay even more for the new fuel tank which is ridiculous I just fine the work they do lousy.

Ive been using Hillmuth Certified Automotive of Gaithersburg for all of my scheduled maintenance on my 2018 Toyota C-HR for the past year. I do a lot of driving as a pet-sitter and dog-walker servicing clients throughout Howard County and western Baltimore County (averaging over 18,000 miles/year). I cant afford to lose the use of my vehicle, so I proactively stay on top of maintenance to avoid car problems and loss of business. The folks at Hillmuth in Gaithersburg are great! Weve gotten to know each other. I know I can trust the service manager and the mechanics. Prices are right where Id expect them to be. My car has been returned three times for the same issue. Thus far I have been charged almost $2000 in repairs. I have a significant dispute with the last charge for my vehicle. I called on the phone to speak to someone about my concerns, and was promised a returned phone call. 10 days later still no reply. I then submitted a detailed email outlining all the events and costs, still no answer. I am deeply disappointed in this repair shop. I used them because they are self proclaimed in repairing hybrid vehicles. They seemed like a very reputable business, but thus far it has been 2 1/2 weeks with absolutely no reply.

Of all the auto shop I have my car fixed they are the best in Montgomery County and the service advisor is well mannered and respectful. All the best to this shop!!!

They take your/their car care seriously. They arent the cheapest, but Ive never been unhappy with the service. I had 2 leaks in my oil system (already knew about them) and they fixed 1 this time (plan on getting the other fixed next next change). When you ask them look over the car they actually do it and will tell you what they see. There is no price tag for honesty, but youll get it here!

These guys and gals are the best. I have taken 3 vehicles to them over the years. They give you the breakdown of what your service costs and lets you know about issue that may come up. This a family owned business, the technicians are professional and their work is excellent every time. I took my car in to see why my check engine light was on and why the vehicle was idling rough. I dont know much about cars so I thought I went to a good shop as they did a state inspection for me prior. They told me what I needed and I agreed to pay them almost 1k to fix the issue. When I drove the car it ran the exact same, same rough idle only difference is the check engine light was off!!!! I called the shop immediately, isnt it funny how they offer to pick up your car when its a sale but if there is a problem they tell you to drop it off???? Anyway I called and the manager never called me back. I wouldnt have a problem paying for good work even your $70 charge for rags!!!! But my car is still running the same. I had a issue with them once before with false information, they offered me a free oil change for next time. I wont be using the free oil change or there services again......I just got tricked and it was expensive. Im taking it to be looked at by another shop today since I got no response. Also they put air in my tires I guess as part of the oil change and left it in crazy levels....smh there is a guy there named Bruce he just treated me!! I told him I would protest because of them taking money and not making repairs, he told me dont forget he has the address and will come to my house!!! I am now calling the cops these people are crazy.

I have serviced all my cars with Hillmuth Automotive Gaithersburg for almost 20 years. Seven cars so far. They are courteous, professional, personable, but most importantly they are honest and they do quality work. They tell me when service on my cars is necessary but they also tell me when its not. They explain to me everything they are doing to my cars in as much detail as I need. You may find certain services slightly cheaper elsewhere but those auto shops will get your money by performing unnecessary services to make up for it. With Hillmuth I know Im getting value for my services and saving money overall. Nothing is more important to Hillmuth than their customers. Its obvious. Oh, and you wont meet nicer guys than Billy and Sammy at any auto shop around. 5 stars doesnt do them justice. I give them 10!

Id heard good things about Hillmuth so I took my car to them for what I knew would be some extensive repair work. They completed the job in less than a day, kept me informed the entire time (Danita the Assistant Manager is awesome), and never tried to upsell me or convince me I needed service or parts I knew I didnt and everyone came across as very trustworthy. I felt respected, welcomed, and listened to, the staff with whom I interacted was polite, courteous, and professional and Ill be taking my car back in the future when it needs service or repairs.

They are very professional and courteous. They tell you when something will need to be replaced in the near future and they will tell you the cost up front so you can decide if it can wait if necessary. Amazing folks! I take my high mileage car to them for regular maintenance and to get my peace of mind. They do not offer deep discounts but the work they do is completely reliable.

John at Hillmuth is a very friendly and easy going guy. He always went the extra mile for me to get things done at a fair price. Ive had mostly minor things done there but in every case I was very satisfied. They are the ONLY ones that managed to properly balance the wheels/tires on my Honda Odyssey (which is notoriously difficult to get balanced). Same with two of my other cars - balancing is smooth as glass.They did a used car inspection for me - only one issue which they guided me on how to fix and then got me squared away very quickly after I took care of it.Ask for John, hes awesome!

I went for an oil change only and I was able to get in on time and out within a reasonable amount of time. When it came time for my car to be finished, the service advisor told me what was good and bad and gave recommendations and options, all of which were not to their benefit (i.e.-you can get windshield wipers here or on your own). The waiting area was clean and comfortable.

Very good first visit. I took our car in for an alignment but they suggested checking the suspension, just to make sure that was the problem. They discovered my tie rod was seriously bent, which is dangerous. (The car had recently been hit and although it didnt seem like a hard hit, apparently it was enough to do this damage.) They replaced the rod and then did the alignment. They gave me back the bent tie rod, which I appreciated...just so I could see what was really going on. Will definitely return in the future. John was especially polite/professional and friendly.

Anyone who says this place is a good value does no research whatsoever. Their prices on parts are disgusting. My fiancé just replaced her rear hub bearing, only one of them, and they charged her $320 in parts alone. You can buy a kit with 2 for $300 online no questions asked. Same with the price for her timing belt, over $100 over the normal price. Whats worse is she has been going to them for years, they know her, and they pretend they are taking care of her. They know shes saving for a wedding, and they pretend to be there to help, but it is a total lie. And, when she asked for a lower price, they made her feel bad about haggling. If only I could be there, this wouldnt happen, but beware of them.

I recently had my 02 Lexus in for a major service at Hillmuth: 180 K mile service, timing belt change and new oil cover gasket. As is always the case, my car was well taken care of at Hillmuth. I am extemely pleased with the level of service that I receive from Sami, Mike and the mechanics who work on my car. BTW, I got a great deal on tires there too!By far, the best service around.

I hit a big pothole really hard after the snowplows tore up the road near my house. It destroyed one of the new tires that Id ordered from Tire Rack and had installed through Hillmuth only a couple of months earlier. So I called Hillmuth the next morning and within just a couple of hours they got a new tire in the door and were ready for me to bring my car in. In less than an hour, it was installed and they did an alignment on it. (I asked for the alignment because I hit that pothole HARD.) Since I had road hazard insurance through Tire Rack, and Hillmuth had already called the road hazard insurance company and taken care of everything, there was no charge for the tire, only for installation and alignment. I was extremely happy that Hillmuth had called the tire insurance company, and made everything as easy as possible for me. I really appreciate that high level of service. THANKS!!!

Best customer service I have ever received at an automotive shop! Reasonably priced, too! Very honest and helpful!

They were wonderful here. I woke up on a Saturday, went to run some errands and discovered I had a flat. My husband was laid up in bed, so I was doing most everything by myself but they helped me over the phone, I even called them to ask a question about putting a spare on the car and they helped me out. Even though they dont have many tire trucks coming through on a Sat, they found someone who could drop off tires and they replaced mine, aligned them, changed my oil and belt and it was all very smooth. Sami really helped me out, which was awesome as I was really stressed. He was very polite and I never felt like he talked over me assuming I didnt know anything since Im a girl. He had all that work on the car done, even with only his weekend staff and had me back on the road in a few hours. My car now drives so smoothly whereas before it was pretty obvious it needed some work. Thanks guys!

If I could give them 0 STARS I would!! The mechanic was completely rude and unprofessional, he came to the waiting room where I was there to get a MD State inspection and started talking down to me!!!! NOT A FRIENDLY WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT AT AT ALL!! ESPECIALLY IF YOURE A FEMALE WITH A CAR!!!!

This is a response to the owner from Mia Solorzano’s review I was there at the Gaithersburg MD location on Tuesday, November 6th at 10:30 a.m. had an appointment scheduled for MD state inspection you can probably find my name there, and when I called to speak to the owner he was not in for the day...so they say...

I hate writing reviews but when it comes to GREAT service I am going to. I have an Acura 2009 TSX and the right and left driveshaft need it to be replaced..I am no car expert but my dealership said $2300.00 for all parts and labor I just fell to the floor, I went to Hillmuth and spoke to John Papuchis(GREAT GUY) no BS, no run around just strait answers. Then came down to pricing $750.00, I thought he was kidding. They even have car loaners or shuttle service. They are down to earth guys, I felt at ease, no pressures to get this job done and on top of it they found that my transmission fluid was DARK...meaning that it has not been done for some time. I will stop going my dealer and go with Hillmuth. BTW, I took my car for a spin...AHHHH, it feels brand new...THANK YOU HILLMUTH, keep up the great WORK..Max
