Pretty standard U-haul w/ store, storage, rental items on-site. It was not very busy the two times we were there. Same 3 employees were working both times. 1 employee was very helpful & friendly, the other 2 one of which was manager were useless. Both visits were a lesson in inconvenience. U-haul used to be a company that I could count on, but this last move using U-haul will be our last. I just dont believe in paying good money to companies that dont care about customers. Ive used U-haul numerous times in past & never had 1 issue. They were always easy to do business with. That was not the case this time though.
On Sept. 14th I went into this location and purchased a hitch and scheduled an installation for 10.21.21. I called to confirm today and my hitch was never ordered and the manager advised that they would never scheduled an installation for 6 a.m. I didnt schedule the installation for 6 a.m....ur office did. The manager was rude and hung up the phone twice. This place has the very worst customer service I have ever experienced. Hands down, the manager is the worst.
The employees on the lot are super friendly and helpful (s/o to the dude in the miami hat for saving me because I couldn’t find my truck for the life of me). I checked in and out through the website and highly recommend it because you’ll skip the line and it takes 5 min max.
We had an appointment for a hitch install on Saturday 9-4-2021. I called the day before to verify. While waiting 20minutes in line (while 3 working staff walk pass me - No urgency) we finally get seen to be told that they do not have the staff to install the hitch. Now Im a very understanding person and do understand during these times (of Covid) work is hard to find however SOMEONE COULD HAVE CALLED US to prevent a 45 minute ride in, driving two cars, and without any remorse from the three staff. 1 staff member (lounging in his leather chair) stating well they were supposed to call you none of them provided any remorse, no sorry, no sympathy what-so-ever! Another lady angrily told us as we walked out she had been waiting an hour to be told that they didnt have a rental car for her.- DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION! The GENERAL MANAGER not on site! NO ONE CARES!!!
Save your money and time! Waited here for an hour for my reservation to be told they dont the trailer... I even checked in on the app before getting in line. I wasted over two hours going to other locations. Just because you have a reservation doesnt mean they will actually have it! Nobody answers any phones not even the uhaul support. I got someone on a live chat and they disconnected their chat from me. Nobody wants to help you and I guarantee you this is not worth the headache. Use another company maybe a small business even if you pay more! This is the worst experience Ive ever had. I will never use uhaul again because of the treatment.
Had the most terrible experience at this location!!! Had a contract for a one-way rental to be returned at this Gainesville location, manager had all of the driveways blocked off so could not return the trailer. When I parked across the street and walked there and told him that I was had a drop from a one-way rental he told me too bad he wasnt taking any more trailers if that were not already his. I asked him what to do he told me I could just go to Ocala. Told him I wasnt headed in that direction he said not his problem and I wasted 2.5 hours before getting a hold of a rep at one 800 U-Haul and finding another place to return this trailer. Would never ever rent from U-Haul again!
Terrible. I returned my rental on 9/20 and four days later it’s still not closed out. UHaul customer service can’t reach anyone on the phone and emails to the manager gave gone unanswered.

Had a hitch installed at the 8th Avenue & Main Street location. Donvain, the Hitch Professional, wore his mask around his neck. He could at least pull it up over his mouth and nose when taking care of a masked customer. Otherwise adequate service.
Got charged twice for the uhaul I used- definitely not a trustworthy business. Uhaul was fine, people were nice, but would definitely go somewhere else if i’d known.
Really bad service there, I made a reservation and they didn’t honor anything. the staff has no education when it comes to credit cards or driver licenses, he stated argue because my credit card had a visa logo and in his world only bebit cards are the one that have visa logos
Two years ago I gave this place a glowing review for propane refills. Since then the service has been so consistently bad that I have to change my review. They seem to not want to fill all your tanks. I dont understand it. They always pull one of the tanks and insist it has a rust spot, is out of date, etc. Ive included a picture of the two tanks they refused to fill this time. Both have been recently refurbished by AmeriGas. Notice the brand new labels. These tanks uhaul employee refused to refill because of safety concerns. I call BS. But that is far from the only problem. First you wait forever for someone to come out and fill the tanks., Then you go inside and wait forever behind someone renting a truck to pay for it. What should take 15 minutes in and out they turn into a 45 minute ordeal. In every case I went to another gas place and the tanks were happily refilled.
Appoint was for 9 am, employee sauntered up to the store at 9:10 without a word of apology. He was unprofessional and not wearing a mask even though alachua county has a mask mandate. Very poor customer service, 1/10 stay away from this location if you value your time and money.
When I moved to Gainesville, I got into town late. I had a trailer w my car on it that I couldnt undo myself nor could I unpack the uhaul without disconnecting first. They had just closed and locked up but Kevin agreed to come unhook me and saved the day. Im so grateful for his excellent customer service and staying a little late to save the day!! Thank you Kevin!
Moving weekend never fails to be filled with hiccups, but Chris at U-haul made everything better. When we arrived to pick up our trailer, the lights werent working because it turns out my vehicle had some blown fuses under the hood. I didnt know this, but Chris popped the hood, tested them, switched them out, and got us on the road in no time. Not only was he amazing, but he was training his employees on what to do when this happens. These people are outstanding and really care about their customers. He was going above and beyond and training his people to do the same thing. He could have sent me away to a mechanic and made it easy, but instead he went the extra mile and made our experience great. Also, kudos to U-haul online for their after-hours return tutorials. Super helpful!
Nothing particularly negative about this location except maybe being understaffed at times. My drop-off was much better than my pick-up as the employees were super friendly. Pick-up took about 30 minutes just waiting to be helped. The truck I was given also had a sagging front bumper and check engine light on. Not really the most assuring characteristics.
The greatest staff ever! I went in today with hopes of receiving 2 wardrobe boxes for a philanthropy event known as Dance Marathon. After speaking to Chris, he willingly donated two boxes for our organization to use during the main event which happens towards the end of March. The boxes will be crafted into a photo backdrop for the kids to take pictures in. The entire staff was kind and very friendly! On behalf of Dance Marathon at the University of Florida, thank you!
Easiest U-Haul pick up ever! We arrived at 10 am and found our reserved cargo van ready to go. A nice young man checked us in and we were on our way in minutes. The drop off was just as painless. No problems with this U-Haul location. I think it makes your day easier if you have the vehicle you want reserved. I would definitely use this location again!
After reading all the negative reviews I just had to laugh. People, people, people. A little more preparedness on your part and these challenges would not have happened.I love reserving my rentals with the app. I have never had any real challenges with any of the staff here. I find that having a smile on my face and paying attention to the annoying people that are usually in front of me and giving a little humor to the situation goes a long way in having that person give me better service.I get it, moving sucks. However, it is not their fault that you failed in ordering what you needed. They deal with rotten college kids quite a lot and I certainly feel for them. I never go in with a time limit, I never expect anything to be as speedy as some do. Taking care of as much as I can online or on the app makes my visits so much faster and amuses me when I can poke fun at the unprepared folks that want the world for their rental.The only thing that I would change is that it would be nice to have someone else deal with the loading, moving, unloading and unpacking. That is not a problem for them though so I guess they have no control there.At the end of the day, slow down, relax, moving sucks in general so be prepared.
DO NOT USE!!!! I was quoted a price to install a hitch which was EXTREMELY high. I told the sales associate, no worries I will go somewhere else, and I was LITERALLY laughed at. Laughed at by their employee. I would NEVER do business with this location, please take heed. I am disappointed in their lack of professionalism.
Reserved a uHaul car hauler for 11a on a Friday over the phone. Everything was absolutely fine and gave them all info. The truck and the car I planned on hauling. Went to pick up the car hauler and the lady at the desk told me that my 2013 F150 was not equipped to haul the trailer and the car I was trying to haul. She came out and looked at the truck and told me the same. I had to pick something up by a certain time so I figured I will sort this out and come back later (I Know the truck was adequate). While I was running my errand, I called Ford dealership and gave them the VIN # for the vehicle and they verified the truck could tow 13,400#. I pulled out the owners manual which said the same. The ball on the hitch was rated for 10,000#. I called uHaul and asked how much their car hauler weighed which was 2200# & I knew the car I was hauling weighed 3800#. Combined weight of around 6000#. I went back to the location and the lady at the desk STILL was rude and snobby with me trying to tell me the truck was NOT rated to tow it and I couldnt have the car hauler. She said I know an F150 is not rated for over 5000#. FINALLY one of her coworkers went out to the car and took a photo of sticker on car and suddenly she is all rainbows and butterflys. Of course you can have the trailer. Got trailer hooked up and the lights didnt work, said it was sand in connector. He checked fuses and wiring...told me it was because the piece was not clicking together properly. Had to unhook trailer, drive all the way home to find out it wasnt clicking together properly because of the bright orange o ring that just needed removed. So I drove back to uHaul for the THIRD time in one day and FINALLY got the trailer. When we loaded it, the hinges were rusty and hard to click. It towed fine. When we came back to drop it off, we couldnt check it in online. This entire ordeal made us 3.5 hours late to dropping the car off at the location. Which is the entire reason I reserved it for 11a. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! LADY AT FRONT DESK DOESNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT VEHICLES! Try telling me my F150 can only tow 5000#, ok sister! Its not a v6. I have rented for uHaul before and NEVER EVER had this issue.
Overall to me a great company. Sorry for the few who werent happy. My friends and family has used them all over the US and they always had good service.
On Feb 17th I rented a 15 foot van from this store and it broke down 3 hours later. Even after calling Uhaul I was stranded on the side of Interstate 75 for 12 hours with no food or water waiting for a tow. The store told me there was nothing they could do and I was billed $285 even though I didnt get to move anything. They refused to pay for my Uber ride home as well. I called Uhaul and they told me it was their policy to bill me for the cost of repairing the engine even though it was not my fault. I am hiring a lawyer and suing them in small claims court for $503 in damages. Never do business with this company unless you want to be robbed. Budget and Penske rent much nicer vans for the same price anyways.

These guys are so nice and accommodating. We had a tad complicated rental situation with multiple trailers from different rental locations and this place helped us get everything situated and correct before heading out. The guy who did our hitch installs was a rock star.
Welp get your lounge clothes on because between wait times and transfers youre going to be waiting on hold for at least an hour.

I give this review 5 stars because of Cindy and her helpful staff! We had some minor complications with our rental for a cross country move (already a stressful event) and Cindy made sure that we were taken care of and ready to hit the road. Very friendly employees and Cindy is awesome!
Had a hitch installed at this location. The light have never worked. I have brought it back to them 3 times. I have spent hundreds of dollars and still do not have a usable vehicle to pull a horse trailer. I took it to another more reputable after market dealership and none of the wiring has been installed correctly so now I have to spend 300 dollars to correct this issue. When trying to call this location to discuss warranties I have been on hold for 30 mins at a time.
Very good experience.We rented a truck for a one-way move between two cities, but was later told that the return destination was mistakenly set. Cindy the manager kindly helped us fix the problem so we do not have to be charged with unnecessary fees. Really appreciated it!

Terrible experience.My husband reserved a regular truck with my debit card so we can pick up a trailer. When we got there, they said they only rent trucks and vans on a major credit card.The sales rep suggested a box truck instead. We asked if it was the same hitch, and the rep and the three other employees that had been listening in agreed. So we decide to suck it up and pay the 30 cents more a mile.We get to our trailer, and the guy tells us that this is a 2 inch hitch and it wont fit. Hed normally switch it out for us to the correct size, but the hitch is welded on.When asked for a full refund, the manager Cindy laughed at my husband and claimed that since we drove it, wed have to pay for it, even though we only rented the box truck because the employees were sure it was the same hitch.
The staff is here is kind and helpful. The prices are also responsible... only negative is that they can be a little slow sometimes.
I got rerouted to a different store for a more size appropriate trailer.Would have never found the second place if I had not been directed there.Worked out pretty well when dealing with the humans in this system. I am not real sure about the internet part.
Made a reservation, while on the phone let them know that I needed that truck at a certain time (an hour after they opened). They assured me it wouldnt be a problem, but that they wouldnt officially arrange a pick up time until the day before. The day before they assigned me a pick up time an hour after I needed to have hit the road. I had to scramble to find another truck from another company, for some reason it is harder to find an available truck the day before you need it. I would have appreciated knowing ahead of time that they couldnt meet my needs so that I could take care of it before it became difficult. They were very pleasant and nice, just didnt give me the information I needed to make a good decision.
Customer service was bad. I went to return my tow behind trailer, the two employees were inside with the doors locked, and pointed to the return key drop. I told them I have no key to return (all with hand motions). They then decided to try to talk to me through the glass from the opposite side of the store as if I were standing right in front of them. I tried making it clear that I couldn’t understand what they were saying, but they refused to try to help me. So I just found an empty parking space and good thing I knew how to unhook the trailer by myself. Terrible.
Horrible customer service. Had a receiver installed,hour and a half into installation got a call that hitch was installed but they would not be able to do the wiring . Because of a speaker, if they dont have insurance or combatant employees to remove a speaker perhaps they need to find a new business .After putting me through a bunch of BS. I had to remove speaker myself.Then to add insult to injury they did the wiring on the other side never even needing speaker removed. Would recommend finding installer anywhere else, personally I will never use them again !
THERE ARE OTHER U-HAULS IN GAINESVILLE, PEOPLE!AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!THESE ARE THE RUDEST PEOPLE EVER. When theyre busy they run around like chickens with their heads cut off, spewing stress at everyone around. If youre not in their face, they do nothing. They took TWO HOURS to get a trailer on my car. Boxed me and my car into a parking spot in the hot sun for 20 minutes while they rearranged their trailers behind me, even though mine was waiting there ready to go. Next day, they called me before my time was up, yelling at me, insisting I need to bring back the trailer because somebody else wanted it. Cindy is the RUDEST manager Ive even encountered, yelled at me, wagged her finger in my face, and her rude employees follow her lead. On another occasion, one of them (the same brilliant mind who blocked me into my car) closed trunk hatch right on the plug for the lights and broke the plug, then said he couldnt fix it, ruined all my plans for the day.BUNCH OF LOSERS AND JERKS.STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.ENTIRE STAFF NEEDS ANGER MANAGEMENT CLASSES.
Ive been here a couple of times and have had nothing but good experiences. Ive rented a truck there and found everything prompt and efficient. Ive had two hitches and wiring installed with no problems. Actually, there was one problem. One wire harness was malfunctioning, but I took it back, and the person in charge fixed it immediately. I realize some people have had negative experiences, but mine have been good.
Aggressive business tactics. My mistake, but receiving an almost 70 dollar charge for not refueling even tho i used less than 1/8 of a tank of gas (10 miles total). I figured since i was being charged a dollar a mile that 10 dollars would have surely matched the amount of gas i used. Figured thats why they charged by mile... The tank wasnt on E or anything extra. Was very dissapointed to see my total go from 63 to 133 over 1/8 of a tank worth of gas. they have alot of stickers inside the vehicles telling you the do’s and dont’s which i refered too, but none mention refueling. Especially with the very short distance traveled. Will never rent one of these again.
Im leaving a poor review because I used to have such great experiences with them. Over the last two months Ive been trying to have a trailed hitch receiver installed. Booking an appointment, getting the right parts on-site for the job, etc. all requires good communication with the business. Their phone defaults to a national line that is absolutely useless. They cant order parts, they cant help with effective scheduling. If I need to talk to someone locally, they send a message from national to local and calls are never returned. It is frustrating because they are the experts that have worked with my equipment in the past, but their communications are so poor it is impossible to do business with them. Im having to go through an inconvenient and costly alternative because I cannot connect with them. Always nice people, but thats useless if we cant get the job done.
I called in advance for pricing. Twice actually. I wanted to make sure there were no suprises. I did this because im not wealthy by any means. They told me it was policy i needed 100 dollars for a deposit. That sounded very reasonable to me. I even asked in person at the counter(to the manager nonetheless) a third time i was told the same. I asked very specifically because i live pay check to paycheck. And i i didnt want to run into a situation i could have easily avoided. I had more than enough in my bank account for this. The second i left the store i checked my bank account. They took almost every penny to my name. 225 dollars. I returned to ask what happened and was assured the problem would be fixed. When i returned the truck the total came to 55 dollars, so again i asked several times when i could expect to see the remainder of my deposit(my 225 percent deposit) minus the 55 dollars? They assured me twice, ver batum, 24 to 48 hours. I understood this because i know how long a bank transaction can take and its sometimes out of both parties hand. Yet here i am, going on my third day and i cant even afford gas to make it to work. I did not, on a whim go rent a truck. I asked questions, i was involved. I made sure i wasnt putting myself in a situation that qould financially hurt me. i was very nice and understanding about the mix up when originally renting the truck even though the manager admitted it was his fault. I trusted them to do the same. I feel like they tell you what you want to hear just to get you out of the door. I followed every direction they gave me. The truck was returned with gas in it, clean, and undamaged. In return they took away my ability to provide for my family. I would not recommed using them to anyone as i feel i was taken advantage of. Im a very responsible person and did the right thing. I dont understand why my business did not matter to them. I would not put any faith in the people employed there to actually be of any assistance. If i could give a zero star rating i would.
So many bad reviews. I actually was given a tow dolly with a light out from another location in Gainesville. I was told to come to this location and get it fixed. Um okay. So I went and the guys told me they didnt have time or resources to fix it and the guy who gave it to me should fix it or give me a new one. They said if he didnt to let them know. I knew it wasnt their problem but I was annoyed I had to do all this driving all over town during my last day of work and the day before moving. But Cindy from this location decided to help me out so I wouldnt have to go back to my pickup location. In this Florida heat and Gainesville humidity, she sat and fixed the light for me herself. When I thanked her repeatedly and told her she didnt have to help me, she said to me, Us girls need to stick together. I think that act alone made me want to support this business and this location until they give me a reason not to. Thank you Cindy. Youre one of a kind.

This place is the bomb they helped me out when I thought all else was lost the manager Cindy she is a person to be reckoned with she will go above and beyond to help anyone. This place is total craziness during the months of May thru August and she just like goes from one end to the other having her hands in everything taking care of it no matter what it is, even when some people have no patients and want to show there a$$ PEOPLE WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO OUR MANNERS AND PATIENTS IN A WORLD OF SUCH HURRY HURRY !!!! We forget our manners and we take it out on people that try to help us, I can say this because I was one of them and when this woman looked at me and said to me really take a deep breath and a step back and you will see that it all works out if you just treat somebody the way you want to be treated and she is right this woman takes care of over 1000 people in the month of May thru August and my daughter being one of them and I can say if there is anyone I would say put yourself in her shoes for those months and at the end of the day see how you feel with people pulling and tugging at you! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Rude staff and most unpleasant customer service experience. Take your U-Haul business elsewhere -- there are several other locations in Gainesville and I can promise you that the experience will be a lot better than here with half the wait time.
It has a perfect central location on the east side of Gainesville. And its well run managed...
Worst experience Ive had at any U-Haul. Reservation was for 7 am and when I arrived the app told me there was no truck assigned. I was given a number to call and no one picked up. After calling the main phone line I was told there were no trucks of the size I reserved (months in advance) at the location and there was no way to fix it. Not the best thing to happen when you have a time-sensitive move out.

I had an appointment for hitch installation made online for 10:00am. When I arrived they said I would have to wait until 12:30. Came back, waited another 15 minutes. Watched as installer looked at instruction sheet. Short staffed and over booked.
Horrible store! The lady who runs this store is a liar, and will change and re-route your U-haul reservation to a different store, so you will end up driving somewhere farther away, and not getting the type of truck or van that you reserved. She is rude and does not care about customer service, as can be seen from the large number of one-star ratings for this specific U-haul location. Other U-haul stores have been fine, but I was so disappointed in my experience with this specific store that I went with enterprise for my trip, and will continue to do so in the future.

I have had only good experiences at this U-Haul on Main Street in Gainesville. They are guick, polite, and always seem to have what I want in stock. Recently I set up an appointment for a trailer hitch for my car--its in stock, the sales rep was thorough and accommodating, theyre able to put it on whenever I want, and theyre open late every day. In the past I have rented trailers and trucks for moving things--it saves the cost of owning a truck. The rates have been good, the service is wonderful, and its easy and fast to pick up or drop off whatever I need. I highly recommend this UHaul.

RUDE. Substandard equipment. Inability to honour their own specials (UHauls suggested method to take advantage of their 1 month free storage would have cost me $100s, hours of driving, and tons of extra work). Quoted one price and truck reservation made via (AZ) call center. In-store pickup= significant price increase. UHaul rep on phone w/employee kept repeating how customers were liars. I requested that the recording of my reservation be pulled, and was refused...even though, UHaul specifically states in the beginning of your call that the call will be recorded, and you may request a copy. HMMM!!!

I do not live in Gainesville but live in a small town about twenty miles away. I showed up to this UHaul desperate and crying. I am disabled and depend on disability transportation services to get me from my small town into Gainesville. Then I must use a bus inside Gainesville. I needed medicine that I was out of. My town pharmacy didnt have it. Disability services dropped me off at Walmart and they didnt have it. I took a bus to the CVS across the street from this UHaul and they didnt have it but they were able to find me another CVS that did have it.Problem was that I dont know the bus routes in town and I dont have a smart phone. I went in the store thinking I could rent a truck to drive myself to the CVS and then back to my town and drop it off. I explained my situation and Cindy tried to find the correct bus for me on her computer. When that was a bust, she took pity on me and asked Chris to drop me off at the appropriate CVS.I didnt have to use their services but rather than have me pay a whole bunch of money to rent a vehicle to go 1.5 miles and back, they were kind.It seems that others have complained about the customer service. If this is how they treated non-paying non-customers, I cant imagine that treat anyone badly.Thank you Cindy and Chris.

Consistently understaffed, this U-haul location has produced most of the worst consumer experiences I have ever endured. Avoid drop-offs here at all costs.
Using their website I got a quote for a trailer hitch installation of $360 which included the hitch installation and wiring. when I called the location to set up an appointment they gave me a price quote of $359 and then told me they will not do wiring on a Volkswagen when I askedwhy their website said that it was $80 for the wiring they said that is not true. so to sum up website gave me a price quote for the same amount which included wiring as the person I spoke with gave me without wiring. when I questioned this they got extremely rude and told me not to call back for any reason.
Ive used this location several times. The equipment is always in great shape and the employees are very helpful.

THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE. Awful customer service, in the middle of moving week this place has 1 person working the desk, of which he takes 30 minutes just to help 1 person without acknowledging the long line thats forming because of it

Drop my truck off to get a hitch put on and come back an hour later and my truck hasnt moved.I have to go find a service tech to ask about it and they said they knew nothing about it. Terrible service will NEVER use again.
Went to rent a pick up truck, the employee, steven, seemed to get off on being rude to customers to impress his co-workers or something. left without renting anything and went to enterprise instead.
