Prices are way too high, the products & prices across the street at 101 Smoke Shop are way better. Friendly & good variety, but 101 got them beat when it comes to the more important factors of buying things in a place like dis. :)

Excellent customer service from a new employee who had only been working there a couple of weeks or days. Very informative. The store has TONS of great stuff. A bit on the smelly side though they need air fresher or to burn incense

Best smoke shop in Gainesville. The amount of glass at this place is surreal, and you’re bound to find something to fit your needs at a great price. They both import and American glass. The owners are really nice people and they have an enormous selection of tobaccos, papers, and cigars. Every piece of gear imaginable is sold here. I think this might be the best smoke shop I’ve ever been to. Nothing ever matched the experience of walking through those doors.

I bought 4 cartons of cigarettes here today. The place seems to have some problem with advertising. They say that they have curbside pickup. They do not. They say that masks are required. I counted 5 people behind the counter, and not one had a mask. When I asked about these things, they became defensive and spoke about liberals, but I am more conservative than they are. But there are some conservatives like me who still respect accuracy. The mark of a conservative is that they respect accuracy.

They had exactly what I needed. Kinda nice when that happens. Both employees seemed miserable. That was strange. But overall decent place.

I always receive good service, but today will be the last time I visit until after the covid-19 pandemic. I felt extremely uncomfortable that an employee got within 6 ft of me without covering their nose with a mask. Masks dont work if they are not covering both nose and mouth. Really sad that one of my favorite locally owned businesses are not working to prevent the spread of covid-19.

This is the only shop that has the Wild hemp cigarettes. I drive from lake city just for this place. Staff is nice and helpful.

The staff is Not helpful, and seem unknowable about products or how to assist customers. they are as unwelcoming as a plague. I couldnt have left fast enough. the first time I went in for a product they couldnt stop laughing at me like a bunch of children so I left and purchased elsewhere. the second time I went in to get an anniversary gift for my boyfriend, I asked a question and the guy stood there in silence. I asked again in another way thinking maybe he didnt know it was a question once more silence, so I turned and walked out again and purchase at another establishment. I gave it two (2) stars because it is a local establishment, I think it could be great if they got some hard core training on how to behave and conduct themselves as knowledgable staff. I also notice its all men working here and I dont think it would hurt to get some professional training on how to treat/assist women customers and staff members. Women dont want to be laughed at or treated like garbage or like we dont know anything, we can take our business elsewhere I feel like with proper training this business would see way more profit and that means more money for them and the employees and the community as well.

BUYERS BEWARE!!!Just want to leave this here. Many years in customer service I know how good customer service works. This place has zero of the that. Experience: Yesterday I went to the downtown location and dealt first hand with a man who said he was the owner and deals with buying all the merch. His vibe was the I dont care if you shop here or not, Im going to help you the least possible I was searching for a Nectar collector, I drove all the way from Bronson to downtown Gainesville to purchase one. I wanted one with a water filter, they said they had a couple. I got to the shop and the product was definitely not what I was looking for but I decided to give it a try. The whole experience was off putting down to the check out where the owner passed me on to the cashier. The owner wrapped my glass peice in a single paper bag with no protection. I kindly asked for bubble wrap because I was driving far the cashier acted like yeah thats the boss for ya I purchased and left. Hours later I try the piece out and what do you know it doesnt even hold water from dripping down the tip and after the first use the tip became loose and had no seal. So today I wanted to let them know about the product being faulty and not as advertised. No one at all three stores could help me nor did they want to. They told me he will b in on Monday you have to deal with him downtown. Called all three stores no one could help or tell me how to get in touch with him. So let me get this straight, 3 stores and not one of them has a manager that can handle these problems? One guy told me thats the boss for ya when I mentioned it was funny the only person who can help doesnt seem to o be available. Then went on to tell me he is retired. Well great hire someone to do customer service, train your staff, and rid of the its not my problem attitude that seems to be popular among the employees. Every piece I have purchased in the past 3 years came from modern age. No more, I will not be returning unless this gets resolved.

Was treated very poorly over the phone.. I was hung up on, after simply asking one question. They sounded very aggressive & I’ve heard rumors of them being aggressive towards customers in the past and this conversation proved that. Will no longer be shopping at modern age. I prefer other shops in town with better customer service & prices.

One of my favorite stores. They have everything you need and the staff is always so helpful. Never have we had bad customer service, onetime too much was said so they couldnt help us. We came back the next day and had no problems. Its all about what you say and how you say it. They have a business/company to protect and as a business owner myself, I understand that. These guys are great. From the owners to the employees, they know what they are talking about, so take note and listen you might learn a few things.

The prices sting a little, but if youre ever in there, ask for Jennifer. She is the happiest, most charming and helpful staff member there. Super bubbly and will take the time to help you peruse the items they have there.

Out of all local tobacco shops this is the best option for variety, there’s a reason they have been a staple name in Gainesville for over 30+ years. There is a notable up charge on products but that’s standard. The staff are relaxed and professional.

Huge selection and open late

Decent, clean place. Came in to get a few cigars. And endured a firm ass chewing for making a joke alluding to my buddy using a grinder for something other than tobacco. Guy was cool before that. Other than that little confrontation, good service and product selection.

Used to come here with mom for her smokes, lucky she doesnt do that any more but i still find an amazing selection with friendly service. Great for the oddball gift and all you smoking needs.

High prices!!! Bought a glass piece from them and it broke in the first week I owned it after accidentally dropping it on a couch cushion. They dont make the glass, but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth for that to happen!

While the selection of products are abundant, and the staff is helpful for the most part. They dont do well in taking care of the customers. Bought an item, realized it didnt fit, minutes later I attempted to get a refund but found out that they dont offer refunds, exchanges or credits. Even minutes out the door. Basically know what you want to buy and make sure its the right thing. Just a reminder of why I make the venture to across town for High Tides.

My brother lost his wallet there one of the staff found it and had for safe keeping. Thank you guys for being honest. Great cigar selection and awesome hookahs.

UPDATEModern Age has expanded immensely. they now have a walk in humidor and a tasteful selection of tobacco and glasswork. it also looks like they have new, friendly and helpful employees. I had a pleasant experience today.As many have said, terrible customer service. Feels like youre inconveniencing the employees by being in their store. Some times I have no other choice to go here, but I typically make the extra trip elsewhere

The mark up is horrible as well, youll feel like youve been robbed after buying from this place. The staff is knowledgable, but most of them are rude and unwilling to help.
