Deceptive practices and unethical. We purchased a large order of lumber on 10/27/21. We had to rent a Uhal to pick up the lumber on 11/4/21. When we got there we were told that the materials for our order had been sold. We where not told of that being a possibility by Jonah the sales person. We were told that the material was sold, directly by Steven the co-manager. If you want to make sure you receive your materials, do not go to 84 lumber.

None of the employees wear masks, at least not on their faces, 2 were wearing them around their necks, the others worn none at all. This includes the staff working the cash registers and interacting closely with customers. There is a local ordinance requiring masks and I’ve been there twice since the ordinance went into effect during the COVID-19 pandemic and saw no employees in compliance. I will NOT be supporting this business because they obviously don’t care about the health or safety of their customers or employees or obeying local laws.

They just do not care if they go out of business. They do not answer the phone often, and when they do they leave you on hold until the call goes dead. In my case I asked for an estimate and was told they would email it to me, and they never did. They need, as a minimum, fresh new management, and maybe ought to just fold their tent.

Lumber is of the lowest quality lately. Better off buying from Home depot

Was making the rounds for a few pieces of lumber, started at Lowe’s and they didn’t have what I needed. Headed to Home Depot, not my favorite thing to do, 2 home improvement stores in one day and was going by 84 Lumber and pulled in their instead cause it didn’t look like a zoo.They gouged me on what I bought. 2x4x8 pressure treated. Charged `$10 each. I bought same 2 weeks earlier at Home Depot for $4.97. So much for supporting a regional business.

Despite their national guidelines they do not wear masks in the store. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE IF YOU EXPECT A COVID SAFE ENVIRONMENT!

Great staff and prices for building. They are super busy but very good knowledge and helpful working out construction details, quantity and schedules.

I called this business on a Wednesday morning to get a quote on ordering some windows for a new construction project. I was told that someone from that department would call me to discuss it. I waited a couple of hours and had not heard anything so I called again. The guy answering the phone remembered me and got me through to the right person. I told him what I needed and he asked me to give him a little time to work up a quote and he would call me back. After at least 2 hours and no call, I drove to the store to see what I could learn, because I needed to get these windows ordered and I really preferred Andersen Windows. At the store no one knew anything about my request. I was so frustrated I went down the street and ordered them from Central Builders Supply. They were totally accommodating and were happy to take my money. I settled for a lesser quality window because of a a lack of concern with the staff that was there at 84 Lumber. What the hell is that about? You lost a $2500 sale and created a very upset potential customer.

Lowsy customer service, nobody really cares or has a clue here and they will NEVER call you back. Just about every time I end up having to deal with this place something goes wrong. It baffles me as to how this store can stay in business!! (Im sure its selling all the cheap press board materials for these new garbage sub-developments and condos going up everywhere.) Its definitely not worth the hassle for the little bit of savings here. I hate to say it, but Home Depot and Lowes are better options. Contractor Supply may be a tiny bit better, but more expensive.

I have been a contractor since 1974 and would not recommend this place to anyone. Anderson Windows told me this was where I could order a replacement window. I went there and filled out a sketch sheet and also sent pictures to their specialist David Dehart. A week went by and I called him to inquire if he was able to locate a window unit for me. In typical used car salesman fashion he said I was second in line for help, he would call by the end of the day. I waited another week and emailed him to see if had found a replacement. Another week passed and I called 84 lumber and was told he was out in the yard. I left all info with the secretary and of course 3 days later, nothing. How this place stays in business is a mystery. Good help is almost impossible to find and this is a prime example.

You will most likely need to know what you will need. The regular associates are hit or miss with building knowledge.

I called and was told I would be emailed a material list for an important project, and had people coming the day after to pick up the lumber and start the project on a Saturday for a boarder who was bringing his horse......The email never came and when I tried to call when they opened Saturday the phone kept ringing and ringing and when someone did answer he said the manager was not even there, and would be there in a while, whatever that meant........ So not only were we screwed up with the help we had coming, the place is an hour away......but our boarder couldnt bring his horse as the paddock we have has no shade.....that was what the materials were for......so in addition to all of that, we lost money.......all of this after I talked my friend who just inherited this horse ranch into 84 Lumber ......so they made me look stupid. This is not reflective of all 84 Lumber locations, as I called the other store in Tavares and it was completely different.....so my advice is if you are in Gainesville....GO ANYWHERE BUT 84 Lumber there.

Im a contractor and spend a lot of materials, well have a job going not far down the road from this location so wanted to start an account. they say its going to take at least a week well I have at minimum of 10k of material to order on Friday well guess Ill be going else where to order materials.check us out on Facebook laperas general contracting
