A truly wonderful shop. Excellent customer service and good work. Our 2010 Ford Explorer’s transmission failed pretty catastrophically, and they were able to get a like new (rebuilt) transmission installed about a week for a very reasonable price. It has now been towing and running GREAT for over a year since.I couldn’t recommend them more highly!

Saw the great reviews for this place, and seeing that I just moved here, I figured I’d try them out since I don’t have a “home shop” yet. Couldn’t be more pleased with their service. I brought my car in for an oil change and tire rotation, and after looking at my car, the technician called me and informed me I didn’t need a rotation just yet, so they didn’t charge me. I feel like most places would just do it to take your money, but not Performance Transmission. They’re a quality shop with great customer service. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this place.

Having solicited their business on two occasions now I must say they are my number one mechanic in town. Their prices are competitive and their service is the best Ive received. The team at Performance Transmission are the friendliest and most detailed Ive seen, and Ive used about a dozen different mechanics around Gainesville over the years. If there is any one drawback for them its that they arent the fastest - but what you give up in time you gain in peace-of-mind from quality of work and professionalism. Excellent shop! After reading a bunch of reviews on transmission shops, I felt comfortable going to Performance Transmission. They did not disappoint at all. We talked through the hows and whys of the needed work and all the charges were reasonable and made sense. Good people. Ill be back whenever I need a mechanic.

Over past years I’ve jumped from auto shop to auto shop struggling to find good/honest work, and when I tell you I found it at this shop! I own a 2009 Jeep Wrangler, needless to say I regularly go in and out of the auto shop. With these guys they make the process so smooth! And the work they do is immaculate. They take pictures of everything that is wrong the vehicle and when repairing it. They inform you on anything you might need to know. All I’m saying is that this has been the best shop I’ve been to, I even drive up from Ocala just to go to them. Also Dustin and his wife are amazing! They treat you life family here.

I was originally quoted for a brand new rear axle for my mustang and the company that quoted that recommended that I did not do a rebuild. So I looked around for a second opinion and found Performance Transmission and A/C Auto Repair online. I saw a lot of good reviews and figured I would give it a shot. From the beginning they were upfront about what the plan of approach would be to diagnose what the issue was and every step of the way conversations stayed that way. I spoke mainly with Dustin, but everyone I talked too was very professional and I felt like I was a valued customer. All of the communication I had with them was in-depth and I felt that they really wanted to answer all of the questions that I had. And on top of that they were confident that we could do a rebuild instead of buying a new rear axle. So I ended up paying half of the price of my original quote from the other shop. Overall they were the third place I called and I am glad I looked around. I have driven the car about 500 miles now and it runs great. No gear noise and it feels great on the road. I feel like I got the best service that I could have gotten. They are highly knowledgeable and you will feel confident that your car is in good hands with them. There are no complaints from me and anyone that is in the area that has any transmission work should really give this place a shot. They will definitely be the place that I am going to be recommending!

This is the easiest review to write, because there was perfection with our visit. My daughter has a 10-year old, 100,000 mile, Honda Civic and it needed some A/C TLC as well as it was running rough. We took it in based on online reviews and came out 100% satisfied. What else can we say? Ive been to about five other places for little things, as well as the dealer. Forget about all the coupons, specials and hype. We called into them and set an appointment. We left the Honda there and they called back within the promised timeframe with an estimate for the repair, replaced a part, cleaned up and flushed the system and took care of the rough idling. They have a Honda mechanic as well as the programs for most of the makes and models out there today. They know their business, were professional and it was nice to know that they do all mechanical work as well as maintenance work, like oil changes, brakes, etc.... . They seem always really busy, which means to me... quality work. I figured if a shop can see you right away, it means they dont have a lot of business. The final invoice was exactly what was promised and my daughter has told me the car runs better than ever. Thanks!

Multiple vehicles repaired here and always friendly and prompt. Didnt recommend anything extra when not needed. If an air filter was dirty they told me and said if you can change it it will save money if not we can do it. Would recommend to anyone

This shop is very professional, reliable, and affordable. They are straight-forward and dont try to sell you a bunch of work you may not really need. We have been here 3 times with two vehicles and each time the quality of service, cost, and speed have been awesome (work done: AC compressor, wheel bearing, headlights). Both of our vehicles are older (11 and 15) and need ongoing maintenance and repairs so we plan to continue using Performance Auto Repair for all our work. I highly recommend this shop.

If you have any car problems, please do yourself a favor and go here. Everyone was friendly and gave real good advise for my situation. The price is fair and they are very clear on what may be wrong. My car started to act up on the interstate while traveling so we pulled over in Gainesville to have it checked. Ended up being the transmission. Not being from the area posed a problem of knowing where to go out who to trust. We called around and because of time, we took my car to a different shop. Jude had told us when we called him that he was 2 weeks out and not realizing what we were in for, I went elsewhere being told they could get me in that day. We ended up renting a car and continuing to our destination out of state.While out of town, we realized we left my car with a crooked shop who lied to us. Meanwhile, with out knowing what had happened, Jude called us to make sure we made it out of town safely and apologized again for not being able to see us. That meant a lot as he had never met us or knew who we were.After getting back to Florida and almost 2 hours away from Gainesville, we called Jude about the problems we were having and he agreed to take my car, again honestly telling me he was backed up. I arranged for a tow truck to move my car. Jude was very honest with us as I placed all my faith and trust in them trying to coordinate things remotely and not being able to be there in person. Even with out ever seeing the shop or meeting the staff at Performance Transmission in person, I felt my car was now safe and would be fixed correctly and honestly. They called often with updates and advised me all options. Jude even checked with my manufacturer to see if my car was included in a class action suit or a mass recall to see if it could be fixed by the manufacturer at no cost to me. This.... This is why I would recommend them. Never in my life have I had a mechanic call to check on us with out being his customer, call around to see if my car could be fixed elsewhere free vs fixing himself at full cost. This shop was very friendly and considerate and fixed my car perfectly. If I lived in the area, they would have my business for all my car needs.

Where do I begin? First off Ill start with the fact that I just picked up my 16 year old vehicle because the A/C was not working and they not only repaired the vehicle in a timely manner but the A/C is blowing so COLD!! I was quoted a price more than 3 times the price which Performance has repaired my vehicle for and the customer service has been STELLAR from the first phone call right up to my recent pickup. These folks are the real deal! Quality work, exceptional price, and great customer service. What more could you possibly require? Dont search any longer for a repair shop, give Dustin and his wife Colleen a call! They are my new auto shop for all my vehicle needs. Oh, and they are a full service shop so dont think that transmission work and A/C are all they can do. Check them out!

Took my car to my usual shop for a humming sound and they said it was a transmission issue. Tried to go to a local dealership and it was a month long wait to get it in. Read good reviews and decided to try Performance. They got it in the next day and let me know that it was not transmission but a wheel barring (something my usual shop supposedly ruled out). Got the part in the next day and fixed it for a fraction of what I was dreading to pay. Cant say enough good things!

Traveling through on my way back to Illinois my Van overheated. I brought my van to Performance expecting it to take all day for a repair. In less than 1/2 hour they had the problem found, New Radiator needed. Ouch I thought, cost plus time to get parts etc, Well looks like Im here for a day or two.My mistake. I found the price Very reasonable. ($500) when I asked how long? They replied 3 hours. THREE HOURS? To replace a radiator, thermostat and fluids? WOW!Best! Best! Best. They even drove me to a restaurant so I could get some breakfast and picked me up after the work was done. I came in at 7:30 and was on the road back to Illinois by 11:30am.

Absolutely by far the best car service Ive received in my life! They replaced the transmission in my Honda CR-V. Not only were they the best price in town, they were also quick and honest. And when an issue with my transmission continued to reappear, they took it upon themselves to get my issue solved under warranty. Found these guys via the internet and really liked the reviews. Well, less than 24 hours later and 2 grand less than the local dealership quoted me they completely rebuilt the rear end on my truck and serviced the transmission and transfer case all with a smile and a warranty. I travel all over for work and I’ve had work done on vehicles in more places than I can even remember... Performance is hands down the best experience I’ve ever had anywhere. I’ve been in the area for a long term project since last year and during that time I’ve basically had them put in a new transmission, engine, and 3 page list of other items. I wanted to have it all done here before I leave the area because of how good they are and good their service is. If you’re a local I don’t understand why you would trust any other service over these guys. IF you are a non-local that finds yourself in need of repair while passing through Gainesville... seriously try to work with Performance. Amazing experience! Traveling home from Sanford, FL to Fremont, Oh and got stranded with a junk alternator at 10pm on a Sunday night, called shop once they opened at 730am on Monday morning. Able to get my car in and replace alternator and idler pulley and back on our way home by 11am. Great people and very friendly! If we ever got into car issues in that area again I know exactly who I am going to!

So i called them about a job on my vehicle. I needed a engine replacement. So first the guy who i talked to, i gave him my VIN number and he never got back with me with a price, so i called them back repeating the process again. Then the owner calls me. tells me its 5200 tax included to do the engine swap with a remanfacured engine......This is outrageous a engine job is about 8-12 hours of labor and a remanfacture engine according to online search is at most 1300. that price is made up My best friend is a mechanic back in my hometown and hes told me what mechanics will do if they dont want to do a job for someone theyll quote them a ridiculous price for a job. this is what happened here. terrible business practice

They were able to work on my car and have it out that same day! Its amazing to find a shop that is willing to work on your car short notice and have it out so quickly. They were willing to work with me and didnt over charge, they were honest the entire time. This will definitely be my go to mechanic shop.

My wife and I were six year residents of Gainesville and used Performance Transmission for routine oil changes and other minor maintenance. Unfortunately, my last visit will leave a bad taste in my mouth for a long time. My wife and I moved back to Wisconsin and before moving home, I got one final oil change for my 2006 Toyota Highlander. Flash forward three months to us actually living in Wisconsin and my windshield wiper fluid has ceased to work for both front windshield and back window. I took it to a reputable mechanic who said Youll want to either avoid diluting your washer fluid in the future or use fluid graded for below freezing.” Turns out the washer fluid, or whatever was in the reservoir, had frozen, and had caused the pump to blow out. It struck me as odd because I haven’t had to fill the fluid in quite some time, because Performance Transmission did that as part of an oil change. I’ve never diluted fluid in my life, mainly because it costs about $3 for a jug. Who would dilute it? Well, my wife called Performance Transmission to inform them we just got a $200 bill for that fix and Dustin, that manager, said it was on us to tell them we were traveling to a cold environment. Seriously? Florida is a state full of snowbirds who drive from the North down South. Plenty of people have cars that need to function properly in both freezing and hot environments. Ironically, I specifically told him and his staff during that final oil change that that would be our final visit as we were moving back to Wisconsin. They not only acknowledged that comment, but remarked how they had family up in the Midwest. As it was, the fluid Performance Transmission uses is more for getting rid of bugs and is not graded for below freezing. Fair enough, there are plenty of bugs in Florida and that makes sense, but when you are told what your service did to a paying customer’s vehicle, it’d show more integrity to apologize for the lack of communication, and possibly offer to partially cover the expense incurred, entirely due to Performance Transmission’s service. If you are going to provide a service, perhaps its best to be upfront with the product you are using. There are plenty of people in Gainesville, FL who travel to places with freezing temperatures. Gainesville itself just had 32 degree weather or lower. I’d rather Performance Transmission NOT offer to top off the wiper fluid than use one that has a specific usage, and could potentially damage your washer fluid system. I’m extremely disappointed that a business I thought was run with integrity apparently isn’t interested in owning up to the issue.UPDATE 12/08/19 - In further discussions with Dustin and Performance Transmission, we were pleasantly surprised when we talked further about the above issues and they offered to cover the cost of the repair. In the end, twas an honest mistake, one we both learned from, my wife and I as drivers (ask your mechanics what kind of washer fluid they use) and I imagine Performance Transmission letting customers know what they use, as some may indeed use their cars to drive to places with freezing conditions. I appreciate Dustin and PM going the extra mile and am glad the folks I had come to trust with my vehicles for almost six years ultimately lived up to their great reputation.

This is my second time going in, and the first time they offered an $84 repair for something that the Subaru dealership was charging $256 for. Ive had my aging Grand Voyager in to visit Dustin and his reliable crew more than a few times now. I can count on knowlegable mechanics, fair prices and prompt and courteous service. I wouldnt take my car anywhere else.

I came to the shop a few weeks ago because my car is making rumbling noise above 40 mph. To me it was the wheel bearing but I am no mechanic thats why I came to the shop. After inspection and test drive the mechanic told me its the front differential instead of the wheel bearing and the fixing cost would be about $3400.So I took the car to another place and they replaced the bad wheel bearing and now the noise is completely gone. I hope the mechanic at Performance Transmission made a mistake instead of trying to scamming $3400 out of a poor student. And Im thankful the mechanic they did not charge me for the inspection and test drive.Quite disappointed given the great reviews.

I took my moms car there for a transmission issue, Dustin knew exactly what the problem and fixed it quick without trying to make up a bigger issue. Dustin called a few days later to make sure the issue was resolved....what! I have never heard of that kind of service! We just scheduled to have our truck serviced.

I had a leak from my transmission and called a couple of places. Got poor responses from them so I looked on the web for help and found Performance Transmission. I gave them a call and decided to go there. I needed a tow and Performance hooked me up with Maxs towing. He was very reasonably priced. He got me to PT and they found a broken cooler line a did the repair. I was back on the road in a short time! Very happy to have found Artie and his crew.

If you are looking for an honest family owned mechanic, you should give this place a chance. I brought my 2008 Infiniti g37 in for a transmission drain and fill and some diagnostics. The staff and owner are very friendly and knowledgable and you can tell that they take pride in their work. Not once did I feel like I was being pressured or mislead like other places Ive tried. I recieved my car back on time and without any new scuff marks or stains in the interior (Im sure many of you have been there). On top of that, the price point was very good. Great customer service initially. Ive been a number of times without incident.No accountability. My last repair was dangerously bad. Loose front end parts that should NEVER have been missedPaid lots of $ for repairs that I could have done on my own but chose not to due to time.Called on a Friday (as shop was closing)with complaint of noise and loose front end after picking up car. Had to leave message. No call back on Monday morning. I had to call back myself later on Monday. They told me they were too busy and short staffed. Not accommodating when I tried to bring back for further inspection.Had to get under my car and tighten loose bolts not secured properly by technician myself. Just what I paid someone else to do so I didnt have to.Customer service was aweful. They just didnt care. Ironically similar complaints on Yelp. Im not just being that guy. I spent 15 years as an auto tech and ran several shops.This is inexcusable.They shop was clearly irritated with my call and simply rude. So Im done. Unless warranty to prior work I wont be back.

I looked up google reviews just like the one Im writing right now. Not one bad one, I thought that was a good sign. I was referred to Performance Transmission from my boss, saying how honest they were and how they didnt try to gouge him for money when he needed to fix his wifes car. Other shops told me my car needed an expensive fix with lots of labor costs and I was prepared to pay it, I just wanted to pick a shop that would do a diligent job. Not only did they fix the problem but they made me aware it wasnt the 3000 dollar problem we thought it was, it only ended up costing 385! Amazing customer service, which is hard to find at any mechanic. Just a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end, I wont bring my car to anywhere else in Gainesville.

Noticed that my service engine light came on, called over and Dustin checked the code to find out what was wrong that same morning. Also, he took me to the computer to see what part I needed and when we could get it for the repair on the sensor. Dustin told me exactly what I needed and how much/how long it would take to do the job. Took my car in that week and dropped it off in the morning, and the car was ready to go by lunchtime. Car has been driving perfect ever since. Very honest and knowledgeable company, would not take my car anywhere else if any issues ever come up. 10/10 experience

Ive always had good experiences with these guys until just now. I went in there to get my car serviced and they just flat out turned me away. The guy at the desk said they were booked solid for the day and had appointments lined up for the whole day and couldnt take me. Really dude?!?!?! because people dont set appointments and not show up for them all the time? I told the guy I was trying to get out of town this weekend and really needed my car serviced and he just basically offerred me nothing. Good customer service would have been to at least work with me... people who make appoitnments cancel them all the time. I was willing to drop my car off and let them work on it whenever they could during the day... but instead I was dismissed.I promise to never use this place again... I feel slighted. Not a good customer service experience at all. To make things worse, I called them yesterday to find out what time they opened... I was the very first car there at 730am when they opened their doors!

100% recommend Performance transmission. Ive taken in both my Chevy Prizm and Subaru Legacy and they have fixed both of them at a great price. This needs to be your first and last stop for a mechanic.

I have been going to Performance Transmission for the past four years and they are honestly the best auto repair shop that I have ever been to! When I call to schedule an appointment, they know exactly who I am/what car I own and always work with me to get my car in as soon as possible. My 1999 Taurus Wagon could have possibly been done for in 2009 but they tried everything to make it run for the lowest price and it is still running great today... I was even able to pass it down to my sister. Every time I go in for an oil change they check my car completely over to make sure everything is working properly. If they find something wrong they are very honest about what needs to be done and give you a time frame in which it needs to be fixed. One time when I brought my car in for an oil change, the side view mirror was hanging off from getting hit while parked and the street and they noticed it and fixed it free of charge. The family is so nice and they definitely go above and beyond to get your car running great for the lowest price. If you are in need of an auto repair shop in Gainesville, I highly recommend Performance Transmission!

I live in Illinois and my daughter is in Gainesville.She had problems with the brake master cylinder leaking in her car. I did some checking on repair shops and after taking to Dustin at Performance Transmission, arranged for her to take it to their shop. They took a look at it and called to let me know what the problem was. They were quick and very fair. They did only what was needed and what I had agreed to have done. They did point out future service needs (which were legitimate), but didnt press to have them done. Since then my daughter has taken her car to Performance Transmisison for service and has been very pleased. Recently the accessory drive belt broke and they were quick to install a new one for her. Cant beat their service rates.I highly recommend Performance Transmission for all auto repair needs. It is sure a relief to me that my daughter could take her car there without worrying about getting ripped off. Performance Transmission gets my highest rating!!!

I walk in and tell them I know what the problem is and just asked if a technician could listen to my car and confirm it for me and give me an estimate for the job. They wouldnt take 2 minutes of their time to help. All they were trying to do is charge me 30 dollars to do an inspection. They lost a customer with a lot of hundred dollars in his wallet because your just another face to them and all they want is money.

I have lived in Gainesville for a long time and have never had a good experience with a mechanic. That is, until I came here. For as long as I am in Gainesville, I will be taking my car here and recommending them to everyone I know. Everyone was so kind and honest and for the first time in years I didnt feel like I was being ripped off at a mechanic. Also when you walk in you will be greeted by two of the most adorable Beagles Ive ever seen!

We were 1200 miles from home when the rear axle in our truck started making a noise. I showed up, unannounced, at opening time on a Monday morning. Performance Transmission worked us into their schedule. They completely rebuilt the rear end in a few hours to get us back on the road! Beyond that, we were treated with respect and the cost of repairs was fair. I have nothing but good to say about everyone working there! THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

Stay far away from this place!! Artie and Dustin are two of the biggest crooks and thieves in the muchanic industry. I brought my classics 1964 impala to have a bunch of work done to it. I only came to them by referral and needless to say, I will never take advise from those morons again. But as far as performance Transmission goes, they are clueless morons that have to spend hours researching on how to properly install what they claim they know how to do already. They are useless people that are out to take your money and leave you stranded. My car was in there possession for 10 WEEKS, when I was quoted FOUR weeks, when I dropped the car off. Well it seems like 10 weeks wasnt enough time because I have returned my car 6 times in 2 weeks and they now are refusing to fix there mistakes and forcing me to go to another shop to fix what they have destroy. So my $5,000. Is now shoved right but my rear end its thanks to performance Transmission. Dont be fooled by all the fake reviews, if you look further back you will see real people leaving real reviews and not just the people saying the exact same things to contradict what im sayimlng on my comment, these group of individuals are nothing but a scam!!!! This is a far warning DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE, THEY WILL ONLY TAKE YOUR MONEY AND LEAVE YOU STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION STRANDED!
