Such gorgeous inventory and helpful staff. Since I’m from a southern state with a Covid positivity rate that has left us with negative ICU beds, I greatly appreciate the common sense steps you’ve taken to make safely shopping possible! We’ll be back!

I went into the store with my mother in July 2021 there were no signs on the door about masks, a woman approached me immediately and said, I assume your vaccinated? I said, excuse me? She repeated herself adding right? I told her, well, that is my business and I will leave. Another associate assisted my Mom. No one asked my Mother if she was vaccinated.Whether I am or not is none of your business, whether I am or not me and my wallet left your store.Nice representation of Maine in a touristy town! Ignorance is an understatement!

I had a great time visiting and shopping at Grace Robinson today. Extremely helpful when needed but they also gave me plenty of time to just browse by myself and look at all of the many beautiful yarns that she stocks. They have an AMAZING amount of beautiful yarn. They also have many pattern books filled with a lot of beautiful patterns that are for sale. They also carry a large supply of knitting needles and needlework supplies. I could go on and on. This was the first time I have been in a store since April because of Covid and Grace made my experience absolutely wonderful. I would highly recommend this amazing store and I look forward to going back again.

There is so much yarn here it is insane. Their prices are good for the quality you are getting. They have very high end yarn and their staff are very nice to you. They do have some clearance bins for stuff they no longer carry, which is often cheap but still good quality. This place is like heaven to me. Its a beautiful land of many yarns. If you are a newbie or a seasoned knitter i reccomend this place 100%

I have been shopping at Grace Robinson for many years and have always had a good experience with them. I live in the area and stop by several times a year. They carry Rowan yarns which are hard to get otherwise. But, when I am feeling lazy I wish they would ship products.

I discovered this yarn shop on my first trip to Freeport in 2009. Every time I come back, I come to this shop. Being from MA, you would think that you could find every brand of yarn you want. I come here because they provide yarn brands that I cant find in MA.The shop is so comfy, that I find myself just meandering around the store at my own speed and 2 hours go by. The staff are nice and helpful always.

My sister warned us about how she was treated in this shop, but given We were in area, thought wed check it out. Boy was my sister right. We shopped on a Saturday and there were at least 3 staff members. None of them preceded to greet any of us, nor ask if they could help find yarn for a special project. Instead they stalked behind you in fear we were going to steal something. For 2 weeks we traveled throughout Maine - from Bar Harbor to Kittery - stopping at more than a dozen yarn shops and purchased from many lovely shops. I envisioned myself going back into this shop bags in hand shouting you wouldnt wait on me last week..... Big mistake... Big.... Huge, just as Julia Roberts did in Pretty Woman. Recommendation - head up the road to Mother of Pearl. They would love to help you create that special project.

Grace Robinsons has a wonderful selection of yarn and the worst, down right hostile attitude toward the customers I have ever encountered in a knitting store. I am a serious knitter and today I bought $60.00 of yarn. When I asked if they could wind the skeins they said no. On the phone they had previously told me the could wind skeins of yarn bought from them. Really, dont expect me to believe they do not have a swift and bobbin winder. These ladies deserve to be punished by the market place. For great selections and friendly service I recommend Knit Wit in Portland and Halcyon in Bath.

Having just received the Rowan online newsletter for the first time, I was excited to see a LYS highlighted. I was hesitant to go, as it is a 45 minute drive from my rural vacation home, and some of the negative reviews gave me pause. However, I was able to see that some of the negative reviews were from one group of sisters, who each made a point of giving the shop a single star based on what they describe as a horrible experience . I have no reason to disbelieve them, nor any of the other reviewers, so heres my two cents worth: I am writing this in the off season, so there arent many tourists for the shop to contend with. I was greeted warmly by the young staff, graciously helped with my questions regarding some Rowan knitting magazines and associated yarns. The inventory is incredible, the samples of projects very impressive, and the staff was helpful in finding the yarn I was looking for. I also learned they will ship to my home if I need to special-order extra yarn. They have a great selection of needles and other knitting accoutrements as well. I will not hesitate to go here again in the future for special projects. I spent close to $200.00 on some gorgeous Rowan yarns and knitting magazines and had no issue with them accepting American Express. I hope your experience is as enjoyable as mine was.

If I could give this place NO stars I would. On an impulse buy I got a set of circular needles only to get home to find out shed charged me $25 MORE than the going rate. Shame on me for not knowing the price beforehand. Thinking she maybe had the price wrong, I called the store only to be told that the purchase Id made the day before and hadnt opened yet could only be returned for store credit! I asked if she could send me a skein of yarn as a token of good faith for a disappointed customer. I never heard back from her.A good friend of mine said, shes a local shopper who has been in the store often enough to understand the insufficiency of pricing and returns. Not worth it to go there and get fleeced. There are plenty of other WONDERFUL yarn stores in nearby Portland who treat their customers right.

Giving it one star only because I cant give it ZERO stars!I live locally and have been to Grace Robinson a couple times. Only once have a bought a skein of yarn and it was simply because I was looking for a speckled yarn to start a project that day and Mother of Purl up the road was out of speckled yarn, otherwise i never would have given them any of my business at all. Most yarn stores are very enthusiastic about customers coming in, after all its not easy to keep a yarn store going. Grace Robinson appears to not even care if you walked into the store. The only acknowledgement you get is the stares of them watching you walk around the store while they wait for you to attempt to steal from them apparently. My sisters were just vacationing here and we visited yarn shops up and down the coast and spent way more money then we will ever tell our husbands yet we didnt spend one penny at Grace Robinson simply because of their demeanor towards us. If they were busy I would understand but we were the only customers in the store. The store carries a brand my sister loves that she cannot get at home and she would have loved to have bought the yarn there, would actually probably have bought several skeins of it, but she refused due to their lack of caring we were even there. I will always go to Mother of Purl in Freeport just up the road from Grace but if they dont have what I want I will drive right by Grace Robinson to go to KnitWit in Portland and attempt to find a parking spot that doesnt require parallel parking, thats a long way to go for me to avoid Grace Robinson!

There should be negative sign in front of my star! I dont understand how this store is in business. It might have some nice yarns, but its staff makes such a lousy impression that I didnt purchase anything there. Before you think that I just didnt want to buy anything, let me say that I went to 11 different stores while on a 2 week vacation with my sisters. We are all knitters, and we all like to go to yarn shops in the area where we are vacationing. 11 stores, I bought yarn at every one except Grace Robinson. There were 3 employees and 1 customer or it might have been 4 employees, who knows!? When we came in, several minutes passed before anyone acknowledged our presence, no one asked if we needed help. I saw that they had Madelinetosh Yarn, which I love and cannot get at my LYS here in Minnesota, but because the older lady in there (the owner?) just stood at the counter and watched us walk around I decided she wasnt getting my business. Too bad, Grace!!! I spent a lot of money on yarn on my vacation and none of it at Grace Robinson. All the other stores I visited were quite enthusiastic and helpful and this was before they knew I was going to be spending anything, you could tell they loved yarn. Grace and staff should take a few lessons. If your reading this review, go down the street a mile or two to Mother Of Purl, lovely yarns and very helpful staff. Knitwit in Portland is amazing too and one of my favorites on the trip. Went there twice.

Not even worth 1 STAR!!!! The owner is very RUDE and haughty. I only spoke to her over the phone one time. I have NEVER set foot in this store and I wont.NEVER tell someone who is looking to knit for young children that they seem like a Walmart kind of person!!!!!I have shopped at various other yarn shops and this by far is/was the awfullest experience in all my years of knitting and purchasing yarn.
