I really enjoyed this quick trip back in time. Each building is cleverly staged and easy to fully experience the artifacts with the trust that visitors will not touch or disturb them. Several buildings and rooms had audio information that was triggered when you opened a door or walked into a room. Some of the buildings even had motion sensors lights and air conditioning. Very well done, neatly manicured, and very interesting. I would definitely go again!

Beautiful architecture in the historical building. I also loved the bookcase of books that were banned or burned and gave the reason or offense and the year. Ill post pics... Interesting to see this and then where we are now...

My husband and I came here looking for something educational to do for an hour or two one morning on our trip to Fredericksburg. There are a lot of interesting historical buildings from around the area that you can walk through and see how the early settlers lived. I appreciated the opening video that went through the history of the German immigrants and early settlement of the area. I also really appreciate that it didn’t skip over the hardships that they faced. I’m a history nerd so I like learning about all of that. They have it set up so that you can walk through most of the historical buildings they have there, which for me is super interesting. I also like how they have incorporated the descendants of some of the early settlers in the recordings that play in some of the buildings. It made it seem a lot more personal to have those tie ins. Fair warning, when you go into the barbershop there is a life size mannequin in the far corner that made me jump. We came shortly after they opened on a Friday morning and it was not too busy so that made it easy to take our time and really appreciate everything that they have there. I wouldn’t say this is a place where you can spend a long time, but it took us a good hour or so to go through every building and we didn’t stop to read all the small exhibits in some of the buildings.

We went here because both my husband and I are in the SAR and DRT respectively. Such a great piece of history on the city and how it came to be! You are given a map of the grounds and are free to tour as you like. There is a suggested path to follow that makes it very easy. You could easily spend two hours here. However, we showed up at 3:55 and they close at 5. Still enough time to see it all but not enough time to read the artifacts. Cute gift shop, too! Would definitely recommend this museum!

Well worth the admission fee since the grounds are manicured with an eye on history. But then a lot of us are mostly interested in shopping and dining but not on how the early settlers went about their daily lives.

Great History of How the city was founded. Alot of neat Information. I thought I had more pictures. This is the first home called the Sunday house. There are several buildings the with rich history. The fire house with old fire equipment, an older school house, an old barn and metal as well as a wood working type shoe with several old carries and a nice display of hundreds of barb wire. The old country store with several rooms and the owner continued to add room as his family grew. Another Sunday house that also grew in time. Again just amazing History. A must see in Downtown.

One of the best museums around. (The other is the WW2 museum in Fredericksburg- amazing!!) Authentic, hands on history of the German settlers who brought their families and culture to the wilds of the Texas hill country in the years following Texas independence. You can thank them for accordions in Tejano music and the delicious sausage you’ll find in every BBQ plate in the state. Don’t miss this charming stop for a taste of Texas.

Very interesting and educational. I enjoy history so this was up my alley. Very nice layout. Only disappointment was it was hard to maneuver around in crushed granite with a wheelchair and I couldnt get in to see alot but they did give me a discount before we started and made us aware. My husband had to push me because it was too hard on my own. I will love to come back and tour this place again when I am on my feet.

It shows how people lived, in a similar way as how my grandparents grew up, (or maybe their parents grew up). Lovely place, Fredericksburg, to visit. Like a bit left of the Wild West only that with all advantages of today. Near the museum there are shops with old fashion made things like mermelada, or wine. Great panoramic views of countryside and sky in the way driving there, so please, drivers, dont get distracted.

I enjoyed the museum, but I was very saddened how our land was claimed by foreigners and their video claims the land was uninhabited. It actually made me angry. Especially when it said they shared the land with the native American people. I doubt my native American ancestors felt that way especially since they were called the immigrants. I dont know what gave the German settlers the right to claim land that did not belong to them.

This is a cheap spot to stop by and learn how people lived back in the time that the Germans settled in this area. The video is a great place to start to give you a great idea of the area and time before you explore the rest of the grounds. All of the people there were very knowledgeable. The last working the counter interacted with our kids very well. Even taught them some German! Its not a must see but it is still a fun and informative stop for a pretty cheap price. Its a good starting point for your Fredricksberg trip.
