I wanna start off by saying most of the negative reviews you see are people that weren’t understanding of Maryland law and probably got mad they were told they had to do something before purchasing a regulated firearm. That being said the guys here are always helpful and very knowledgeable not just with customer service but gunsmithing as well. Amazing shop, they do the best job to help you and answer any questions you have. Good selection of mostly new and a few used models, amazing selection of shotguns especially. Would recommend 100 times over.

Ive been there a couple of times to look at handguns and pick up ammo, and it wasnt a bad experience. Also, I called this morning to see if theyd been getting in any Henry stock, and the fellow who answered the phone was very polite, answered my questions, and we even just chatted a little about Henry rifles. He gave me no impression that he wanted to just get rid of me. Maybe I just got lucky, but my experiences have been okay here.

Having read about this place was concerned about going Heres doesnt sound like a nice place to shop. Decided to check place out .Definitely not a friendly place too pricey, Bad attitude and atmosphere. Left without a doubt not to return.

Walked in the door and immediately had five employees staring at me like I had just interrupted their afternoon nap. One of them greeted me and seemed pleasant enough at first, but he apparently didnt like the idea that maybe Id never been there before and was just checking the place out, because he sarcastically told me to let him know when I actually wanted to buy something. Not a good start, and it wasnt long before I tired of five pairs of eyes watching my every movement. Needless to say, I left and havent been back since.

They are knowledgeable and professional. Answered all of my questions. I was out of there in no time with my new firearm and ammo. If you are a serious gun enthusiast and know what you are looking for they are great to deal with as I have been buying from them for 26 years and highly recommend them.

The fellas have been friendly to me each time I have gone in and offered good advice.

Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Workers seemed like they wanted to rush me in and out. Very abrasive attitude and careless of the idea of me spending money there. I will Never return and I encourage Any and all gun enthusiasts to avoid this business if possible.

Rude and mean customer service.

They act like you owe them something for letting you walk in their store, staff has always been rude when you can even get their attention.Seriously, shop anywhere else, there are plenty of fun stores in the area. Its worth the drive to Hagerstown, PA, VA or Southern Maryland to go somewhere that isnt going to treat you like an open wallet

The customer service is poor largely because the attitude of the employees, but especially the owner, is poor. You are treated as if youre an inconvenience even when youre purchasing their merchandise. I know they know more than me, much more than me, theyre probably experts. So, why do they feel the need to treat you with such condescension?

Prices are a little higher than on-line for sure, but so is everything else. Customer service is usually pleasant, but they have their not so awesome days. But when things are good to go, they have tremendous knowledge on firearms, ammo, and the local laws.

The gentleman we dealt with was a condescending and sarcastic jerk. Almost everything he told us was not true. Prices were high. Selection was limited. Honestly don’t know how this place stays in business. Must be a tax write off.

Terrible people, They where so passive aggressive and repeatedly tried to kick me out of the store because they felt like i was just browsing. I asked to know a price and he said “there’s no time to browse you have to go” The sad thing is i genuinely was cash read asking for info. Never go here

Just purchased an AR from Gun Center, and John was very personable and knowledgeable. Spend plenty of time with me as Id originally researched some models that werent available in MD. That being said, I overpaid a little (my fault for immediate gratification and not researching more), but Im happy to pay a few bucks extra for good service and to an independent shop. Would definitely recommend.

I had excellent service! Other reviews had me worried, Im glad I went. Salesperson was with customer went I arrived. He did acknowledge me. He took his time answering question that customer was asking. When he got to me they had exactly what I wanted / needed and answered all of my questions and gave me good advice. I was only purchasing scope rings and bases.

Made a major purchase today and this is the second purchase. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and a great inventory. They answered all my questions and the process was painless. Great professional guys, great store!

I went in here the other day and the two guys working there were really polite. We had a good discussion about good CCWs and the gun laws in Maryland. Never at anytime did I feel pressured to purchase anything. They seemed to just want to find what best suited me. I left without buying anything but they were polite just the same.

As many others have pointed out already, the owner and staff have a real attitude problem. They seem to enjoy making customers feel ignorant for asking questions about firearms. Ive been there several times and the staff always behaves as though Im intruding on their own private little club. They are smug and cant be bothered to help customers. There are numerous other gun stores in this area, so do yourself a favor and spend your money somewhere else.

Not too bad.. prefer buying guns in Virginia, West Virginia, or Delaware if you can over there.. its next to Fort Derrick, employees are strict with how you handle the firearms... but very friendly.

This is the worst gun store I have been to and Ive been in the military for well over a decade. I walked into this store to purchase a few items and stood at the counter waiting on the owner to greet me. He glared at me a few times but still decided to run his chops to his buddy about fishing, while i stood at the counter for about 5 minutes. I left and decided I would drive all the way to VA to purchase firearms before I patronize this business! Thank God for the machine guns nest. Im greeted with a smile everytime I walk in!!!

I had a very good experience purchasing my first handgun in MD from the Gun Center. I read a bunch of the bad reviews but still wanted to check it out for myself.Start to finish, Im glad I purchased my gun here. Only thing that was a little strange was them opening at 11:15am instead of 10. No explanation or apology. I waited quite awhile and saw almost a dozen folks come and go. But I guess they like being old school. Im cool with that for a gun place. Its a real old fashioned biz!

I went to the gun center to purchase a glock which was difficult to find at the time of purchase. Customer service is lacking and they make you feel insignificant. I paid 15% over retail for a standard G22 which is mostly my fault but wasnt familiar with the area at that time. I would suggest purchasing firearms from other local dealers such as Atlantic Firearms, 2A or Bass Pro if you cant find what you want locally.Best of luck with these guys...I wont ever be back

Pros: good ammo selection, staff is friendly from my experiences.Cons: firearms are so outrageously priced that its humorous (everything in this store can be found $50 cheaper locally and $100 cheaper online), no FFL transfers,Conclusion: go to Skeeters in Smithsburg.

Sarcastic and nasty experience. Asking questions felt like we were getting scalded and mocked. Ive never seen men think its acceptable to speak the way they speak. Type of people to piss down your back and then over sell you a rain coat.

Lets see... overpriced, limited supply of everything and horrible customer service. Ill drive the 1/2 hour to Hagerstown to multiple shops out there. Reviews are spot on.

I would strongly recommend staying as far away for this store as possible unless you enjoy being ripped off and verbally assaulted. The workers (and I’m pretty sure who was the owner) are extremely discourteous, sarcastic and just nasty and difficult people that should not be rewarded with your business. I have purchased a lot of firearms in the past 20 years and never encountered an experience as terrible as spending 10 mins in this store when trying to buy an antique pistol. Not to mention their prices are way out of line.There are many other reputable stores where the workers/owners will take the time to discuss your purchase, educate you and appreciate your business. These goons were too busy laughing about how they were gouging people on prices of assault rifles after the recent school shooting– wow, that’s cool.I wish I would have taken the time to read the rest of the negative reviews on Google prior to going in there – hopefully you doing just that and will and avoid this place all together.On my way out, they informed me they “give everyone this kind of service” and that I was “breaking their heart” by leaving. Take your money and run as far away as you can from these losers and this place! At this rate, they won’t be around much longer anyways.

If I could leave zero stars, I would! They are rude and stand there and harass and belittle you the whole time about guns- even though I am a military veteran and gun enthusiast! They also entered in the wrong model number, so when the MSP denied the application the very next day, they never called and told me! Only after I called a week later did they tell me. I ASKED FOR A REFUND AND IM GOING TO HERTAGE! AVOID THIS PLACE!! RUDE AND LAZY!!

I really cant believe these people are talking about the same store I visited. Ill give you the story as to how my visit went and you can judge for yourselves. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and was greeted by a middle-aged gentleman who asked what brought me in today. I told him I was looking to buy a pistol. I let them know that I would be using it primarily for target shooting, but I also wanted something that was respectable. He readily showed me several models of 9mm and .40 caliber pistols and let me know that theyre good for target practice since the ammo is cheaper than .45 or something else. He showed me everything from a $600 Taurus to a $1,500 H&K without ever pressuring a sale. The prices were a little higher than I had seen online, but I feel like after the transfer fees and shipping itd be close if not the same price. Plus, its worth it to be able to go to the store if theres an issue with the weapon rather than having to deal with some online store or the manufacturer. After narrowing it down to one H&K USP I wanted I said I might want a Walther because of it being James Bonds gun. He did make it apparent he thought it was a dumb choice for target shooting. The thing is...he was right and I wasnt offended that he was sharing his opinion. After about 15 minutes I asked him if I could take a look at the Taurus Judge revolvers that were new at the time...just for fun. He did without complaint. I dont know why anyone else wouldnt receive the same treatment I did. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt...nothing to make them think I had lots of money. I was polite and respectful and got nothing but the same thing in return. They do strike me as the type of people that arent in the mood to educate people who have no idea about guns, but they were very patient with all of my questions. They also might not want to cater to thugs or riff-raff who come in and act like they know everything about guns. GunRunners is a great establishment and I have bought from him, too, but I genuinely believe these guys run a good store. Give them a try. The worst youll have to do is go somewhere else.

I have been in there a few times expecting a better experience each time. Each time I go in, I feel like I am belittled and talked to like I have never handled a firearm in my life. They are EXTREMELY over priced. I priced out a baby Glock a few years ago and they wanted almost $800. I went down to Baltimore and was quoted almost just under $500!!!!! Save your time and money and try somewhere else.

I was very weary about going to this store because of the negative reviews on every review site that I visited before deciding to buy a firearm. Because of this, I ended up visiting 2 stores in Frederick prior to going to the Gun Center. I was specifically looking for a Ruger GP100 6 .357 Stainless revolver. The other 2 stores didnt have the 6 in stock so I stopped at the Gun Center just to take a look. I had already looked up the retail price from Ruger, it was listed at $775. I was greeted by a former Marine who had worked at Fort Detrick (Im Army), he was helpful, let me take a look at the gun. To my surprise, when I looked at the price tag, it was listed at $755 brand new. I had seen cheaper prices online, but they didnt list the condition of the weapons, so I assumed they were all used. Anyway, I purchased the gun on the spot and Rick helped me with the paperwork. They were even flexible with me since I didnt bring my military orders, I just e-mailed them as soon as I got home so I could get the ball rolling on the background check. I certainly understand some (emphasis on some) of the complaints, because some of them just sounded like entitled Americans bitching because they didnt get a pedicure at a gun store, but I didnt have a bad experience here. Maybe they just need to weed out a few bad employees. They have a really good selection of guns there though, the largest of the stores I visited in Frederick by far.

Iam a 18 year Federal Law Enforcement Officer and I agree with every comment on here they are extremely rude and distant from their customers. Their prices are completely out of line. I called and asked a question about a particular gun and certain requirements that my agency requires. The questions were not out of line the question in particular was does the gun have night sights I was told very rudely yes. I called back hoping to get someone else and I asked the question again because the first individual was more concerned with getting me off the phone. I explained to the 2nd individual who I was with and that I was driving a considerable distance to pay extra for this weapon if it fit the parameters. I arrive only to find out the weapon does not have night sights. I refuse to believe that the employee did not know this, more likely he did not even look because he could care less.HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.... TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWERE even if you have to pay more which is unlikely you will pay 2-300 dollars more for rude service.

Do not shop here if you are not a local or if you are a novice to gun ownership. This place was of no help at all coupled with Very High Prices.

Went to this place on 05/14/2012 with my wife to purchase a new gun. I am a first time gun owner, and let them know this when I walked in. I had the gun I wanted to purchase in mind. The sales person could honestly have cared less if I had been there or not. I have several questions, however, he just seemed so unintrested. I additionally noted this place was the most expensvie of the places that I had looked thus far. The gun goes for $430 online (450 shipped), and around 470-500 locally. They wanted over $569 for the gun, and they did not seem to want to come down from the price at all. For this price I could have purchased an upgraded model from another local dealer that I intend to visit tommrow. Save your time and go to better dealer, I for one will not be coming back!

Was completely shocked at the lack of customer service and almost mocking of my gun equipment. Was talking to a staff member when the other guy behind the counter told him to go get the pizza. Staff member left and that was it. Absolute horrible customer service. Not to mention that same guy was rude about my current hand gun. It doesnt matter what I have, when I come into my LGS I expect to speak to people that are not elitest jerks like this guy was. Will never ever stop into this place again.

I came in here a few months ago just to look at their wares. I asked one of the associates if they had any 9mm rounds in stock and I was given a rude answer. In short I felt very uncomfortable being in that place. Alot of the other gun stores Ive been too had helpful staff and were more professional than the people in this store. Yes I dont know much about guns but it doesent help your business if you act rude and obnoxious to customers who could have potentially given you business. Looks like Ill buy my shotgun and rifle somewhere but it definitely isnt going to be here

I have been here several times. The guys are funny and helpful.

They didnt greet me when I entered the store and only asked if I could be helped after several minutes when they finished their conversation with someone hanging out. Asked about several 22lr rifles and they didnt have what I asked for in stock and didnt offer to order, but rather told me why I didnt want them but wanted the HK 416 D that they had in stock. At $ 685 !!! This is a good $130 -$150 over what you should pay for this rifle and is higher than MSRP. I was told if I wanted to discuss a discount, I should go to Walmart. I will not go back. I have purchased a gun elsewhere and dont have to do business with these hicabillies.

Years ago they treated me like they didnt want my business. Basically ignored me until I asked for help then belittled me and seemed annoyed to have to talk with someone in the store who wasnt a member of their imaginary club. Ive never been back and everyone that asks me for firearm advice/info I send elsewhere.

The worst customers service skills ever . I have never met a more rude bunch of people . I went in to sell a shotgun or trade and they told me 80.00 for a shotgun I payed 1600.00 for . I have been here several times before and have found even when just looking they are rude its like they dont care . Now I take the trip either to PA and go to cabelas it Arundel mills and go to bass pro shops . Never again
