Went in to get breakfast this morning. The name and sign just killed me so I had to go in. I got a breakfast with farm fresh eggs, awesome bacon, sour dough toast with strawberry jam, and a potato cut into four with what I think was rosemary on them. It was a great meal and well packaged in a unique little container. I also got a fruit cup and a lemon blueberry scone. The scone to me was more like Irish soda bread. It had that feel to it. It was really good. This is an eccentric hipster coffee shop and restaurant. I kinda think outside the box and enjoy these type of places. I would reccomend a visit if your in Nashville.
This was an amazing place for breakfast! We just got in for the weekend, early on a Friday. We were seated right away, but there was a big line after, which is great to see! The Irish coffee and food were amazing as well. Fantastic smoky flavor for the biscuits and chorizo gravy. The service was friendly and quick as well. Absolutely recommend!
Food was fantastic! A little different and eclectic spin on southern dishes. Tried the Hummingbird coffee which was really good. Grits were real thick style which I love. The Jolene was also a lot of food and very good with all kinds of flavor. The food coming to the table was a little slow but they were busy and I dont mind terribly if Im drinking coffee and relaxing. Would recommend.
Really great food, coffee, and great service! Pretty busy on a Friday morning, took a second for the food to come out, but they took great care of us while we waited. We had just flown in to the airport and had all of our luggage with us, it wasn’t a problem at all they helped seat us and were very accommodating!
Awesome food, great atmosphere, delicious coffee. Although, we came during a very busy time and they seemed a little understaffed, so the wait was a little silly. Maybe we came on a bad day when 2 people called out or something, but we definitely had to wait like 40 minutes for our coffee and bagels
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, SERVICE!!!!!… 45 minutes wait for a table and we were totally ok with that.We order the Clyde sandwich and a Architects omelette with blue cheese, mushrooms and spinach (it’s a build your own). The omelette was served after 30 mins…wrong order! Asked the server if I could have the omelette the way I ordered, his answer was a sassy “will take a while” … I said I was ok with waiting. Then 50 mins in… still there is No sign of the sandwich…. The Omelette arrives….(comes like in the picture, literally looked like a leftover, they forgot the toast, butter and Jam that comes with it) I ask if I could have the toast and Jam… 1 hour in no toast, no jam, NO SANDWICH!! Almost like a joke!!Finally, the server comes again and we asked him, what happened with the sandwich? His answer, “I don’t know, I put the order in”!! 😂 I asked again if I can please have the toast and jam that was part of the Omelette dish, finally he went to the kitchen and drop it in or table, upset almost like if we were the ones that cause the mistakes!!! ….Still no sign of the sandwich… so we asked the host that was standing behind our table if we could cancel the sandwich, at this point we are not even upset, just hungry and disappointed that we wasted our last day in Nashville in this restaurant. My husband I dine out A LOT and we have Never, Never have had such a horrible experience!! The two servers were EXTREMELY rude and not empathetic at all! The only person that we can save from this experience was the host, with her cute tie die shirt! she was the only one friendly and kind!! Props to her!
I wish I could get from TN to PA that fast. Ignore that grumpy guys review! But really, this place is great. They have an amazing work atmosphere, team building, and camaraderie. Its rare to have a place where people love where they are! All that translates to great service and food!!!!!!
Coffee took 35 minutes to get at the counter. We were told a wait of 45 to 50 minutes for a table of two which was fine. However two groups, one a 4 and the other a 1 who came in after us were seated before us. Inquired as to why and were told we were 3rd in the line to be be seated next. I ask why as we came in before the people in front of us and the group who came in before us were seated 15 minutes ago. No good valued answer. We said to take our name off the list and left. Very disappointing
First the good - that bacon was amazing. The coffee was strong, good flavored and super hot...the chorizo biscuits and gravy...were cold. Flavor was good but the peppers were chilly and the gravy was cool. The big box it was served in was awkward to eat from. Not sure if it sat before it was brought to us or never got warm to begin with.
Good food and nice environment. Friendly staff. A bit busy (long waiting line) being it is located downtown, but worth it.
The coffee is always good but they always burn my to go bagel 😩
I really wanted to like this local place. I went here one afternoon while I was out walking around town and apparently they were getting ready to close (I had zero idea). I have never felt so out of place and unwelcome before. Allow me to take you through my experience. I walked in, thought “this is a neat place and where’s the menu?” I was just a few feet in the door when I suddenly got side-eyed and looked up and down from several employees. I guess my athleisure attire was not hipster enough to be in there. Anyways, I ordered my go to iced caramel latte and no sooner than I got out the word latte, the lady taking my order turned and asked the gentleman at the espresso machine “did you close already?” to which he replied that he could still make drinks. Great. I stood around for probably 10-15 minutes waiting on my coffee. During that time, I witnessed the employees holler from across the place to multiple groups of people trying to come in that they were closed and not taking any other orders for the day. In their defense and mine, there was no indication that they were soon closing or closed. The people likely did exactly as I had, looked inside, saw people waiting for their orders and went on in. I finally got my coffee and asked for a straw and was told they don’t have any straws. I continued on my merry way of walking around town and got about half way through my drink when I immediately threw it out because I was suddenly drinking the most gritty iced coffee ever. It already lacked flavor, but add the strange grit to it? No thank you. I’m still not sure if the grit was coffee grounds or the beginnings of curdling milk. Either way, if was the worst coffee I’ve ever hadTL;DR: worst coffee I’ve ever had. Rude staff. Avoid if you are not hipster. Just go to Starbucks or another coffee shop.
This is the best coffee in the area. We had really high quality coffee drinks and the people that were really nice. Luckily they have oat milk which is the best thing to drink coffee with in my opinion. We tried a few other places like PJs and other coffee places just dont compete with this one. If youre downtown Nashville and you can make it over to the frotgy monkey do so but remember it might be busy because its so amazing. We just found out were getting one in our town so were thrilled!
Amber was an incredible server! She was very attentive & helped recommend for for us with it being our first time. The food was fresh and hot and the wait time wasn’t bad at all for a Saturday morning! We’re only here for the weekend but will be back for breakfast again. They have a bakery as well where you can purchase any of the bread that’s served & their gluten free bread was 10/10.
Just a few blocks off the beaten path, Frothy Monky is a great alternative to any light breakfast or coffee you will find on the strip. We ordered to go because the wait list was about 30 minutes, but you can get coffee any time. Drinks are incredible. Plenty of outdoor seating. Cool/young adult vibe. Another hidden gem just down the street is “417 Union” for a heartier breakfast!
Good food and good ambiance! Would have preferred to get our food in regular plates instead of in to-go containers just because we ate in the patio! But other than that, food was good and drinks were good too.
Wow!! Incredible!! Yummy!! Lady Lavender latte iced is perfection in caffeine form! Cornbeef and potato hash with eggs cooked on point. My husband I loved this spot. Make sure you take some Hoffs hot sauce! Thank you so much!
First of all we waited over an hour to get our food while we waited I used the bathroom and a roach came out from behind the toilet! The waitress that served us treated my vegan girlfriend like she had 5 heads and was very rude also the coffee tastes like trash my pancakes tasted microwaved none of our orders came out correctly. take your money elsewhere.
Amazing food, the Italian sandwich will live in my dreams. Great service. Definitely a place we will have to visit when we come back.
*during the issues with COVID so the score may seem harsh considering the difficulties staffingSat immediately. Tried ordering mimosas. Waiter apologized politely that they hadn’t gotten their shipment of Prosecco. Ordered bloody Mary’s. Waiter again came back: out of tomato juice. Ordered two other drinks and waited forever for their delivery. Actually came well after our food. And the food! Wife ordered scrambled eggs on her corned beef. Got over easy and the corned beef was tough slices. Ugh! That was it. Weren’t going to eat it. Just going to go somewhere else. But couldn’t as they never came back!!! Took forever to get the bill. They took off the meal but what a bummer!Staff was extremely pleasant and I know times have been hard so I keep that in mind. Otherwise the score would be lower.
Check to-go order before you leave. I ordered the California with bacon (which costs extra). When we got all the way back home, there was no bacon. The description of the meal says it comes on sourdough bread and they put biscuits in it instead. We also ordered the Cheesy Grit Bowl and it didn’t taste that great either. The coffee was good though.
Nope. The feel, the vibe is disgusting. Unclean.
Friendly, helpful staff that makes you feel very welcomed and appreciated.Delicious bloody Marys that dont taste like cocktail sauce... Hard to find! Pretty good coffee, I got an iced turtle mocha which I find is hit or miss depending on location. This was def a hit!
Today at downtown Frothy Monkey I got the kale salad with grilled chicken for $15. The salad itself was good (minus the croutons that were quite literally so hard that I couldn’t bite through them). The big problem wasn’t the taste or the crouton rocks, it was the fact that I paid $15 for a grilled chicken salad and literally got tiny chicken tenderloin. I used to love frothy monkey but this is honestly just trash. I’ll still come by for the iced hummingbird but I won’t bother ordering food from here again. Do better frothy.
Longest and grossest wait I’ve had for a coffee in my entire life! As I waited my for coffee, my fiancé and I witness the manager use a long spoon to dig something out of someone’s mimosa 😱 then he poured it into a new cup, handed it to the waitress and told the her to serve it! You could tell by the look on her face she did not want to serve that drink. I have no idea what he dug out of there but the look on her face told me that a new drink probably should have been made. Thankfully my coffee was not made by this guy and I watched the lady from start to finish, she was great! Him, not so much…not going back.
What a disappointment. A $12 Adult grilled cheese with possibly 2 pieces (at best) of cheese, discolored avocado and an egg that never had a chance. The potatoes kinda had no chance, 1 bite was all it took. While I get that this little part of downtown is a who cares mark up tourists trap, there are a lot of offices near by and locals are here too. Frothy 12 South and Frothy Sylvan park I would highly recommend, this location however continues to decline
Food was excellent. It was hot outside but oh so cool inside. We had a staggered party of four but our orders were taken care of.
Its no surprise this place has mostly 5 star reviews. Amazing food and atmosphere. There is a bit of a wait for the food, as stated in a review below, but the wait is WELL worth it. This isnt a place you get reheated precooked food like some coffee chains, everything here tastes amazingly fresh. Definitely worth stopping in.
Food is great but we had to wait a hour to get a table. Good but not worth a hour wait. If you can get a table in 20 minutes then it is worth it.
Not sure if AC was out, but at 10:00 on a weekday it was hot, slow, and just mediocre food. Scrambled eggs VERY runny, toast was basically room temperature with texture of slightly stale bread. The pancake we ordered to share was a mystery. Nothing on the menu says anything about them, other than pancake, but they have a texture similar to potato pancakes, weird color, flavor, etc. Not crowded at all, probably 50% of tables empty, but there was a wait and getting coffee refills took forever.
Food quality for price: Not worth it. Tasted good but the Monty Cristo was very small for $11 with fruit.Gravy was out after I ordered. Then biscuits were out after the entre came. They either were understaffed or are really struggling to keep up with the demand. Expect to wait about 30 min some of what you ordered to come.Atmosphere: Lively, bright, open air and comfortable.Noise level: Expected for a brunch place, good for chatting with friends! Upbeat music.Lighting: Tons of natural light and mix of many types of lights in kitchen, kinda strange.Staff: They are very nice, help instantly and were quick to apologize for out of stock items and food. Staff was working hard but the kitchen is struggling.Cleanliness: Pretty clean.Bathroom (mens):Seating: 5 min wait for a table in afternoon in June 21. 4 booths, 4 tables, a few tables outside too.Car parking: Street parkingBike parking: noneNote on working/studying here: They ask that you not hang out long if there are people waiting for tables.
We went on a Saturday for brunch. The line extended to the door but moved pretty quickly. It was a little bit slower to get our food and drinks delivered to the table. Drinks were very good. We had both the cold brew and latte. Food was okay. The biscuits and gravy were fine but could have used more spice. The architects omelette wasnt very fluffy and the sourdough toast was average. The jam that came with the toast was good. Go for the beverages and find food elsewhere is my recommendation.
Great service and good food, with lots of options for more adventurous palates. The kids menu was already limited, and then they were out of pancake mix when we went, but a great spot overall.
Very friendly staff with great service here! Deliciously roasted coffee and phenomenal breakfast options. We had the cheesy grits bowl with feta and two eggs, as well as the Huevos Rolandos with barbacoa added. Both were outstanding! The portion sizes were generous and the flavors were spot on! Great experience!
We’ve been eating here every time we’re in town for at least the last 5 years. It was always great. 5 star food, service and atmosphere. This time only ok food and terrible service. Took 10 minutes before we ever saw a waiter and 45 minutes to get food after we ordered. Counted 11 people working (standing around) and only 13 customers the hour and 15 minutes we were there. Please fix the staff and/or managers. Thanks
This place had great vibes going in.I ordered:Hash: No Bueno. While hash IS open to interpretation, having 4 half potatoes and long slices of ham is abusing the essence of what hash is. Not worth it.Monkey Cristo: just ok. If youre fond of sweets for breakfast this will be up your alley.Grits: just ok. Needed either more feta or more salt.Black coffee: basic coffee, with slightly higher acidity. Light roast. The hummingbird: best thing I drank. Think a mash up of coffee, banana smoothie, piña colada. Tasty! Will I be back? I think Ill pass. There are a lot of options in this town.
Loved this place. Great vibe and old building space with high ceilings, brick and plaster walls and ample seating downstairs and up. You order at the counter and they bring your food and drinks to the table (no standing around “Starbucks-style” trying to hear if the next wax paper cup holds your drink).I enjoyed the eggs on avocado toast pictured with a Best of class cappuccino. It was fabulous and comforting. Included avocado sprouts and excellent sour dough bread with a nice crust. I’ll be back!
The staff at the Frothy Monkey is amazing. I love it if somebody actually knows the difference between a Latte and Macchiato and can explain it to you. If you’re not sure what coffee you want, just ask them. Same goes for the food.I ended up ordering a Latte and Grilled Cheese together with a side soup (Black Beans). The coffee was amazing and the food delicious. The cafe is very cozy and offers different seating options. It’s a nice place to get some rest, read a book and enjoy.
Good food. Fast and friendly service. I had the BOB. Which is two pancakes and two sides. The bacon stole the show. The pancakes were fine, but the bacon was amazing. The prices were fine, maybe a bit high for breakfast, but certainly within a reasonable range. If you are in Nashville and need some grub, you might want to check out the Frothy Monkey.
Service was really disappointing. I felt like I had to speak to the staff as if they were 8yr old at summer camp and I was the baseball coach. I had to eek out my words and validate them with statements like okay? or thanks, bud! or awesome, youre the best!. Deplorable in my opinion. I live in greater NYC where working at a restaurant is pretty straight forward job. They ask what youd like you tell them and have confidence thats exacly whats coming out of the kitchen. The servers here were snowflake minors in my opinion. I, litterally, had to offer them support and request from them if theyd be willing to, ya know.....be a waiter/tress.The kitchen was very very slow - but then again coming from greater NYC I have a different sense of how 2 eggs bacon and toast ought to work.Food quality was great, really good quality ingredients. Just a bit too slow and and me having to play the role of Jr High School guidance counselor were my only issues.
Food came out really fast, plenty of seating. Giant space with a hipster vibe. The cold brew coffee was absolutely delicious! The parfait was slightly difficult to eat due to the granola on top (it spilled everywhere), but otherwise a fun and delightful spot for breakfast. Prices were reasonable too!
Frothy Monkey is an awesomely named coffee house with several locations in Nashville. We went to the 5th Avenue North spot near our hotel and had a decent experience for breakfast. The space appears small as you walk in, with somewhat limited seating before you get to the counter, but a much larger room opens up deeper in, so bring everyone!I had a Biscuit with egg whites and cheese which was awfully nice of them to make me since that particular sandwich isn’t on their menu. It tasted great, though it wasn’t my favorite biscuit texture I’ve had in the south.I accompanied this with a side of potatoes which also looked great, but the potatoes were not quite crispy which had me thinking they had been prepped a while ago, but they did taste good. (Once I added salt and pepper.)They have two coffee options - a traditional bold/dark which I got and which was really good. (I asked for it served in a mug which they happily obliged.) They had a more floral/fruity one too plus all kinds of special lattes and teas. My wife had the jasmine mint loose leaf tea which she thought was delightful, light and delicious. It was served with a carafe and the leaves separate in a steeping cup.She also ordered the Oatmeal with fruit that looked like it had been cut a while ago. She found it to be thick and hard to eat and she needed to ask for more almond milk to loosen it up a bit. They accommodated it and even steamed it for her. There are monkeys everywhere which makes any experience more enjoyable! We arrived before 10am and there was no line so service was quick, but then it got super crowded, so we got lucky! Also they make their own gluten free bread (which my gluten-free wife didn’t have, but good to know there’s a house-made option which is often more exciting then a store-bought loaf of something…)This was a fine and quick stop which served our needs on the way to our first tourist destination that morning in Nashville…had we more time to go anywhere, we’d probably have chosen one of the other spots in town, but it’s worth stopping in for the coffee!
Food was very good. I asked for an avocado toast which she said they made and when I received my meal it was the egg top of of the bread and avocado on the side?? Apparently theyre are not communicating well what the customer wants. This needs improvement. On the other hand lattes are very good. Place is very nice and spacious. They have a lot of seating on the bottom floor, in the back and upstairs. I would come back.
Enjoyed it. Had the Farm Breakfast and a cup of coffee. Nice staff. Pleasant atmosphere.
This has a very hipster vibe. The menu is not too expensive and the food was very good. I had a quinoa and black bean burger that came with potatoes and then a rich chocolate custard with whipped topping. My friend had a coffee that had a really stunning presentation with a whipped decoration on top. The food tasted fresh and the restaurant seems to care a lot about quality and presentation. The staff was extremely friendly and helped us with the menu choices and recommendations since it was our first time there.
Great place staff super super friendly. Food outstanding. Patio is super cool!!! Yay for the monkey 🐵
It is one of the best places to have breakfast/brunch. Be prepared for long waiting time on weekends plus they’re not taking any reservations. The recorded line says that you can add your name to waitlist but no one picks the phone. That’s where my one ⭐️ deduction goes. But upon arrival they suggest the option of to-go order which is actually better than waiting time for dine-in. We took to-go order which arrived in 15 minutes as compared to 1 hour waiting time for dine-in. We ordered quinoa bowl and California plate. The food was good but it seemed little overpriced for the quantity you get. That’s the deduction for other ⭐️ Still it’s a place to try out.
Amazing latte selection. The rosemary honey latte was rich and smooth with a subtle herbal flavor. The sweetness was not over the top and it let the espresso really show off some smokey complexity. Service was chill, cheerful and eager to offer info on any of their menu items. Atmosphere is pretty casual and great for a quick bite. I will be back to try the other items for sure!
Walked in to try to get a coffee this morning. Stood at the counter for several minutes and saw four employees doing various tasks but none ever acknowledged I was there, let alone take my order. After waiting about 5 minutes I left.
I have only visited this Frothy Monkey twice. Each time I went, we were seated quickly and the establishment was clean. We had the same waitress both times- she was excellent, kind and attentive. As for the menu, I can only speak about their breakfast. The first time I went, I ordered the Britt. It looked delicious but was very dry. The second time I visited, I ordered a cappuccino and a side of bacon. The cap was delicious, but my bacon was burnt and my friends eggs were overcooked. I will go back but for coffee only.
Tasty blue cheese omlette and the kids plates are enough for an adult. Very tasty. Arrive early if possible as its quite popular.
For my first trip to Nashville and having the name pop up confused me BUT the coffee food and people were ALL amazing. Had awesome suggestions. The prices were higher than expected but the food and drinks were absolutely worth the price. Definitely going to be going back when Im back in Nashville.
The food was ok, they were out of many things at 900 am on a Sunday. The waiter I believe was a bus person, we were seated in about 30 minutes, we had to wait about 30 minutes to order, we received our food in about 30 minutes, the took was just ok. The waiter was just not trained or prepared to be a waiter. We ordered a simple breakfast off their menu and the who experience too almost 2 hours not including waiting to be seated. We were seated upstairs, so perhaps this area just does not get the attention.
Would have given 5 stars but our waiter/cook left off the chicken and croutons from the salad my friend ordered. I got the grilled cheese. Sounds simple, but definitely NOT. It was delicious. Staff was friendly. Atmosphere fun.
What an amazing breakfast/brunch/lunch place! I went here 4 times in two days 😅 great breakfast options e.g. the California and Plain Jain, and the salads are incredible as well (especially the architect make-your-own). Also have some creative (and normal) teas. Dont leave Nashville without trying this spot!
Key talking points:Hand crafted drink plus delicious filling meal for under $20Attentive and cheerful staff(Thank you Hunter and Jordie ((hope I spelled that right)))Well priced unique merchandiseOpen floor plan with captivating decorThe Frothy Monkey brought our vacation to a wonderful close. Thank you so much for your attention to detail in our meals and your extensive knowledge of your options during the ordering process. What a treat. Well be back soon!
Food was sloppily put together - clumps or cheese sprinkled haphazardly over the biscuits and gravy (which was bland and sitting in watery gravy). Huevos rolandos was two fried eggs sitting on raw kale and spinach - I could’ve put that together at home. Server was rushing us out for no apparent reason. Definitely not worth any hype.
Food, coffee and atmosphere was really, really good! Some of the better biscuits and gravy Ive had in a while... The only reason I am giving it a 4 instead of a 5, is because it seemed like all of our food came out fairly cold... Would definitely try again, being that this was our first time. But serve that food hot Frothy Monkey 🐵!! 🔥
This place is legit. Frothy Monkey has two levels, that presents a nice laid back atmosphere. I arrived on Sunday afternoon. I sat upstairs. First impressions was it was nice with huge windows. I sat by the window which offered a view over the street. Saw a lot of people riding electric scooters and it made me happy! The music playing was decent. Tables are industrial rustic which gives the place an awesome look. The first floor had ample seating with additional seating in the back but didnt scope out that area. It looked to be deep enough to wear a good number of people.I ordered the farm breakfast. I was trying to order the most amount of food and I feel I succeeded in my guess. This plate was packed. I was barely able to finish it. The food looked very fresh, tasted fresh to. I wasnt expecting this from what I thought to just be just a coffee shop from passing by. I was not expecting my visit to the place to be so pleasant. This place is so much more and I will definitely be coming back again.
Excellent food but they were out of key options (pancakes, yogurt) coffee was delicious.
Delicious modern breakfast/lunch, in a two-story location with lots of seating options and sunny window views. Theres stairs up to a loft type area, a small coffee shop with bar seating, a section of regular tables up front, and a more secluded set of tables to the rear of the shop.On this first visit, I enjoyed an espresso (smooth, rich, served with sparkling water on the side), an adult grilled cheese (possibly the best variation of grilled cheese Ive ever had), and a side of locally sourced sausage patties. I also had a snickerdoodle cookie, but that was less exciting-- the selection of baked goods is limited compared to the typical coffee shop. This is the sort of restaurant I look for when I travel: local, good menu, casual, high quality. Highly Recommended.
Delicious food, great service. Really loved having brunch here
Good breakfast place with a chill vibe.
Cool atmosphere. Average food. Good coffee. Slow service.
Great service, great food. Especially the Egg Water. If you havent had their egg water, its better than everyone elses egg water!
