What a fabulous experience! I contacted Jay in regards to repairing an old Gibson we had. He took a look at it, shared with me what he recommended and then gave me an estimate. I dropped the guitar off to him and he worked on it. Keeping me in the loop throughout the whole process. Sending me updates almost daily. He also installed a pick-up in the guitar, the first one I had purchased wasnt what he recommended to put in it. He called me and talked to me, explained why he doesnt recommend it. I was so impressed with the amount of knowledge Jay has. I picked up the correct pick-up. He installed it and gor the guitar back to me in a matter of hours.Highly recommend and will be returning with other instruments that need some work.

I brought my primary acoustic guitar to Jay Carroll to discuss a minor problem that had become an inconvenience. Ive been playing acoustic guitar seriously for decades and typically do my own basic setups/maintenance, but in preparation for recording I wanted to make sure my guitar is as good as it can be.This was my first encounter with Jay and Im very pleased with the outcome. He very carefully inspected my instrument and made several suggestions. Then patiently listened to my questions and went out of his way to discuss options, and the expected outcome for each option.Jay referred to this first visit as a diagnostic, but it turned out to be a valuable CONSULTATION, and I insisted on paying him for his time. Discussing treatment for your stringed instrument with Jay feels a lot like talking with your family doctor USED TO FEEL...back when doctors had time to take a personal interest. No hype. No double-talk. No money-grubbing shenanigans. Clearly, Jay is an honest, conscientious professional charging reasonable rates.

Ive had this strat for a couple of years and have never been happy with the set up. Jay brought it back to life again. Honestly I cant say enough good things about him and the shop. The whole experience was cool.

Before a few weeks ago, I had never heard of this place. They just opened up a shop downtown and were close by, so I went in to get some work done on my strat. I was so impressed with Jays knowledge of my instrument, as well as the quick turnaround on the repair. If youre looking for an excellent repair shop in Fort Wayne and want your instrument back sooner rather than later, then this is the place to go.

The operators are incredibly knowledgeable about an extremely wide variety of stringed instruments, including Middle Eastern instruments. (I recommend them to a friend who needed a sitar repaired and restrung. The friend was thrilled with the work. I currently am consulting with them about the setup of an oud in addition to having maintenance done on a variety of my guitars. They also rebuilt a vintage mandolin for me.) Their work is absolutely top quality and the folks there do an excellent job of explaining the why and how of repairs they make and what to expect from various modifications to instruments. Another huge plus is, unlike too many other service businesses today, the staff is extremely honest. They wont hesitate to tell you if a repair isnt worth doing, even if they lose a sale for that moment, preferring to market in integrity, trust and long-term customer loyalty rather than mere money grabbing for short-term profit. Theyre treat all their customer as important and are very generous in giving everyone curteous, individual attention. Oh yes, they offer prompt service and are EXTREMELY reasonably priced!

Jay at City Strings did a great job on my electric bass! He fixed the problem and even improved the playability. Got the bass back the same day! I highly recommend him for your equipment repairs.
