I have been insulted by a couple of employees that work at this place of business. Every time I deal with this one employee that works the back of the store by where they make the keys. She calls me sir when my drivers license says female. I find it very insulting and disrespectful if my money is good enough to spend at this place then they need to call me mam or her.This is to respond to the owners comment. They were awesome! im from out of town and they had plenty of salt and other winter supplies at the height of the winter storm. The staff was friendly and their front entrance was clear!

A couple pennies more expensive, but the convenience of a purchase of top notch products far outweighs driving to the brick and motar, search and discover stores. I love this place because you get that personal touch and knowledge you dont get from the big box stores. I have a hard time finding anyone in those big box stores who even know where anything is. And if have a question about something you get a reply of, its not my department. Schauers personnel will answer any question, plus they would never sell you something you dont need, or wont work for what you intend it to do. They have integrity, something that its rare today. For my hardware needs, I always go here first.

I didnt get that their sale people are friendly. I got just the opposite. Its NOBODY but her & I. I had to ask the the question twice and I still didnt get an answer I heard. WTH. I knew it was a reason I never used that store. I can throw a rock and it thee building its so close to my home . IDK if she was having a horrible day or what? But 1st rule of business is my sure the customer is Happy. Im far from Happy.

I thought the person we delt with was rude and totally unprofessional and not helpful whatsoever! I came in to get glass cut with 10 min left before the store closed. He would not give me of his time because he was closing. It would have taken him less than 5 min to trim my glass or even cut a new glass for me. There was no customer service whatsoever from them.

Excellent neighborhood hardware store. There is always a helpful knowledgeable staff person to answer questions or help you find what you need. Prices are very reasonable with regular discount sales. They have a rewards program for customers. There is street parking in front of the store as well as free parking in the rear.

This place is always spot on. They usually have everything Im looking for. Even the correct belt for an exhaust fan i was convinced i was going to have to go to a specialty hvac store to find. Its old school and if you are as tired of Menards as i am its breath of fresh air. Everybody in there knows whats going on. They might not be able to carry everything but what that have is quality.

Schauers Hardware exercises deceptive business practices. They DO NOT OFFER REFUNDS FOR HEATERS... PERIOD! But the policy itself is NOT the DECEPTIVE part! The DECEPTION comes in when they fail to let the consumer know about the policy BEFORE the consumer makes the purchase! Instead, they let the consumer know about the policy AFTER the consumer has made the purchase! The manager states that a no refund for heaters sign is placed in the section of the store where the heaters are, yet there was NO such sign displayed in the heaters section of the store on the day that I made my purchase. To date, I have NOT seen such a sign anywhere in the store. The manager also states that the policy is printed at the top of the consumers sales receipt, yet the ONLY words that were printed at the top of MY sales receipt were: 30-day return policy with receipt. My heater kept shutting off every time I operated it within 10 minutes, so I attempted to return it for a refund INSTEAD of an EXCHANGE in hopes of purchasing a BETTER quality product made by a DIFFERENT manufacturer from a DIFFERENT retailer. The manager would only offer an exchange. When I asked the manager what happens if a customer purchases a defective heater, then returns and exchanges it for another heater... and THAT one is ALSO defective, the manager stated I do not think that that would ever happen, instead of providing me with a REAL answer to that question!Schauers Hardware plain and simply DOES NOT CARE about the consumer! They FLAT OUT LIE and exercise DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES! I have NEVER had a problem getting refunds for defective heaters that I purchased from other PHYSICAL or ONLINE retail stores. Schauers Hardware is part of the Do It Best hardware store chain and is the ONLY store in that CHICAGOLAND CHAIN that I was able to find that offers NO REFUNDS FOR HEATERS!Think twice before purchasing ANYTHING from Schauers Hardware because they could very well make the decision to not provide refunds for OTHER merchandise in the FUTURE... and FAIL to let you know that BEFORE you make your purchase!UPDATE (1/9/2020): The owner of Schauers Hardware recently responded to my review. First, the owner stated that there was nothing wrong with the heater when they tested it. That statement is MISLEADING.  Here is the reason why: On the day that I returned the heater and asked for a refund, the manager flat out refused to remove or even allow ME to remove the heater from its box, plug it into an outlet, and run it to show them what was wrong with it (as I had suggested should be done).  They simply DID NOT CARE whether or not anything was wrong with it!  THEY WERE NOT GOING TO ISSUE A REFUND PERIOD!  Furthermore, a cashier recently told me over the phone that they only had TWO of those particular heaters in stock on the shelf FROM THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE SEASON... and that someone had purchased ONE of them (that someone was ME)... leaving just ONE of them on the shelf, and that ONE is STILL on the shelf!  So if the owner REALLY felt that there was nothing wrong with the heater, he/she would have RE-PACKAGED and RE-SHELVED it just as every other retailer does!  But according to that cashier, after that ONE heater was purchased (by ME), they had not placed any ADDITIONAL heaters (of that model#) on the shelf SINCE then, and there was just the one remaining heater left on the shelf of that model#.  The fact that the owner chose NOT to RE-SHELVE the heater indicates that the owner DID believe that something was wrong with it!  Second, the owner stated that he/she assumes that I have shopped all 3,500 stores to find out that they (with the exception of Schauers) offer refunds for heaters.  In reality, one does not have to have SHOPPED all 3,500 stores to know their refund policy.  One can simply CALL many of those other stores to inquire about their policies!  That is what I did. For example, I have never SHOPPED at the Highland Park store location, however, I am aware of the fact that they offer refunds for heaters because I PHONED them!

I had no idea what I needed to do a project, the young male was amazing in assisting me get everything I needed. A1 customer service.

Came in to buy a torch found one for 20 dollers. My issue is i want to try the torch out befor buying it because the torch head is loose in the box i asked brandy the manager if there any way to test it out in store to make sure its not leaking fuil out of the torch head. She said no so i left im not gunna buy somthing you guys cant confirm its safe and not dammaged. Frusterated that i have to go to home depot instead
