Curious books and music abound the shelves. Ive found gems in vinyl, classic literature, poetry, and philosophy. Dean and his team keep the shelves well-stocked, and the kitchen well-prepared.The food is excellent, available to vegetarians and carnivores. I know some of the carnivorous persuasion who go to Totem simply for a vegetarian lunch; the food is that good. The coffee is enjoyable and completes the unique experience of reading at Totem among the artifacts. Lunch to books to vinyl: the prices are reasonable.Lastly, Ive found the events here delightful. Totem offers diverse events from poetry readings to drag queen bingo to child story readings. This is a place the community can dwell and thrive.

Owner said I could come in, a 45 min drive to get some special and rare books. He told me some not so great things then ran away to the back. I love the store, art, and workers there. So major props to the staff

Love this used book store above all others Ive been to. Snack bar, hot food and drinks. Comfotable places to sit and read or rest your snack. A wide variety of books from children to adult. Very clean and nice of course nice restrooms. Prices are the best!

Excellent selection and staff. You get a very clear sense they know the old stuff is the good stuff, and also that there is a place for the good new stuff. They have psychic readings every month. So far I can fully recommend Kim and Katina.

What a beautiful and open space! I visited Flint for the weekend and my partner and I stopped in Totem to grab some books and records. They have such a wide range of books to select from and numerous super cozy sitting areas to read your good finds at. I could have spent all day here! They also sell cool trinkets and other soothing products like incense, crystals, and sage!

You had me with the sign! Havent even been in the building yet but cant wait to see what is there is to explore past the doors. Love the aesthetics! The bookshelf sign is a welcome and welcome reprieve and yet quite the solute from the old school letter board signage that were all inundated with on the daily and THAT is where you got me. Good on ya! Totally random find. Cant wait to see the adventures that wait on the shelves within!

If I could give them zero stars I would. Awful over priced record selection. The food is not good. The customer service is atrocious. They are always asking for donations from the community when they have their own means. They are stealing business from other specialized niche local stores.

Totem Books is one of the sweetest, nicest, most wonderful book shops in the entirety of the world, and I will absolutely be going back. They were kind enough to allow me to do a book signing in their store, with special guests, and gave me space to do my own thing.The employees are incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable, and theyre the most lovely people youll ever meet.Seriously, get yourself down to Totem Books, and buy something nice. You, and they, deserve it.

Totem Books was recommended by a friend and I was not let down. This place was incredible. I was a huge fan of the collection. The staff was awesome and helpful. It was great to see so many people in a book store! There were several people enjoying the deli while I was there. I did not try any of the food or drinks but I will be back to so. Good job Totem Books! I will be back.

Me and hubby just walked out. We were never acknowledged. The two white women even avoided looking at us. I was even going to say goodbye on our way out, they tried and succeeded to not look at us. Never again will I shop there. Very disappointing!!!!

I absolutely love this book store. Ive been there several times to study and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect for it. Plus food and drink and staff were awesome! Definitely a great vibe overall. Definitely worth the visit just to check it out.

Pretty dope place. They have a ton of used books, pretty much something for everyone kind of feel. They also have DVDs, vinyl, cassettes,(!) and coffee and food. Staff seemed pretty nice. Dollar vinyl section and spacers for the 45s too. Hope to be back next time Im in Flint

Perfect atmosphere for browsing their wide variety of new and used books, unusual gifts and their in-house cafe. I called ahead to ask about a used book and they had it. Picked it up for less than half the retail price. It was in like new condition. Free easy parking. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Never a bad experience here. I come in to meet someone for a tasty bite or drink from their cafe, and find myself walking out with 2 or 3 books that I likely wouldnt find at a bigger bookstore. Whats more, a couple things Ive found have only been a few bucks each! Staff are courteous, helpful, and friendly. The online store is also nice and I was happy to receive my items in less than a week. If its not one of their cafe items, books, vinyls, CDs, movies, or miscellaneous items, its the overall atmosphere. Theres something worthwhile every time I come in with discoveries lurking in every corner. Highly recommended!

This place is the best. So many antique books and records. They have Flint memorabilia as well - I found an old arrest warrant for $10. Coffees pretty solid too.

I like every unique aspect about Totem Books, from the displays of Artwork to finding that special book. At times its peaceful and quiet but for the most part this little book can pack a crowd.I suggest calling ahead, they do accommodate for meetings and events.We cant forget about the food and service. I just walked in this place a few days after they opened looking for a kids book. Not only did I find the one but they had almost the entire set!!! That I couldnt resist. Nor could I pass up the smell of fresh brewed coffee, real cream and flavor additives. I found a favorite mixture. A warm, cozy, introverts paradise. Great food, great atmosphere, and lovely service from Bridget & Tyler. They feature all sorts of books to choose from (even rarities like musical books, comics, and textbooks). Its a lovely place to take a friend, or even a larger group, as they have ample seating. There are games to choose from (like chess). Its almost like a jazzy library.

My favorite independent bookstore. Always an interesting find. Great place to take my kids because they have a childrens corner. The cafe has an amazing drink and menu selection, with vegetarian and vegan options. Great for a healthy lunch and a book or working on a laptop. They also host fun events like drag queen bingo. Very nice atmosphere. Love the employees, very friendly and helpful.

I tried getting the Flint River-Opoly but I didn’t have any luck with it! I was really disappointed about it to!

Super cool spot

Tyler is great! He went above and beyond, taking me across the street to the game store to introduce me to the owner there knowing that I was interested in that stuff. He even remembered who I was even though I had only been there once before months ago, and he seemed to know a lot of the customers and greet everyone as they were coming in. This place is a hundred times better than going to a Barnes & Noble.

Cozy spot to buy books, grab a tea or lunch. I personally enjoyed my first foray into the Bubble Tea craze. Very nice. They also have new and used vinyl and cds. Hide out in a corner and get some work done! Definitely give it a stop.

Went to Totem Books for the first time today and absolutely loved the ambiance ! quaint and interesting artifacts scattered around and comfy seating areas making you feel at home right away. New-ish used book and music store across Court Street from The White Horse. You really need to go and check them out. Fun to browse, and they have a food and coffee bar in there. I could stay for hours. I have, actually. Great addition to Flints new artsy scene.

This place is awesome! They have a lot of cool books that you wouldnt find other places. They also have a lot of other assorted cool items that are unique. They have a pretty decent selection of records and have a connection with a Record Warehouse so theres a possibility of finding a lot of other titles. Just ask one of the friendly staff and they can get you started. They have a really fun story time Saturday mornings for kids. I didnt get a chance to try the cafe but will be back again to check it out. I have heard good things.

This is a fun store, lots of books, vinyl, retro buttons, bookmarks, postcards, local stationary sets, incense. Bubble tea and other beverages and snacks, plenty of nooks to sit and chat, chess table, generous kids section, bathrooms. Friendly staff. My college kid got a Vonnegut book, intense, a button, and a postcard.

If youre looking for book titles youve never heard of but somehow complete your life, this is the place for you. If youre thirsty while taking advantage of the cozy reading nooks and peaceful reading music, Id recommend the steamed almond milk with a raspberry flavor shot or the hot chocolate. The sandwiches were the perfect comfort food to accompany any book you were reading- whether its from the diverse childrens section, Native American history collection, or an encyclopedia of horses.

The personalities that occupy the store are amazing! The food is phenomenal!!! There are so many unique items here.

Definitely not what I expected. I was choosing this bookstore because I prefer to spend my money with small businesses. I didnt even get a hello when I entered or asked if I needed any help finding anything. So I looked around myself and didnt find what I was looking for so I was on my way out and to my surprise I didnt even get acknowledged by a single employee as they stood there speaking to each other..

Ordered a iced cold brew coffee with a splash of coconut milk and it was delightfully tasty. Sipped the coffee as I browsed their selection. Enjoyed all the astethically pleasing views throughout the store.

Always love coming here whether for the coffee, the Shakespeare sandwich or Roger Rabbit wrap, and the books. The workers are also very friendly. Been to a couple spoken word events and it was really nice. I miss this place every time Im in New England.

A welcoming, cozy atmosphere. The cafe adding a sophisticated, contemporary feel. A decent size selection of books. Most impressed with the collection of classics which I purchased several of today and will be back for more. Above all, customer service was excellent. One of the girls (Sarah?), assisted in combing the shelves for several books on my list. Although we were unsuccessful in locating certain titles, she did record my name and number in order to contact me when they become available. Overall, I am quite impressed with Totem Books and shall return soon.
