In this day of BUY HERE -- PAY HERE used car dealers, if you have less than great credit, you really take your chances. DriveTime provides a valuable service: A good selection of quality, well-maintained used cars -- and almost everyone gets approved, based on current income level. Of course, the interest rate is quite high. But thats the price pay for this service. After we did our homework, my wife and I traveled to DriveTime in Fayetteville, NC this morning. There, Joshua and Daniel spent a few hours with us and worked with us to get us into a car we could afford. We went in hoping to buy a 2018 Toyota Corolla, but we were disappointed to find that the monthly payments would be just a bit out of our reach. (Were in our 60s, I still work full-time and financial reversals and just life got in the way over the past few years and we find ourselves in quite reduced financial circumstances.) Anyway, these guys worked up financing on several other cars and guided us every step of the way, and we drove out in a nice 2014 Chevy Sonic. They really do work with you -- and the salespeople are not on commission -- theyre salaried. Theres no haggling: the price is what it is. I hate buying a car from a traditional dealership, as, I think, most people do. But at DriveTime, we had a great car-buying experience. Joshua and Daniel took good care of us.
