Great first impressions. Nice sales staff, CPO program, warranty, prompt sales and customer response, quick shipping. So why the bad rating?If my item arrived as advertised I would probably be singing TMR praises, but its clear they dont inspect and certify the gear as they say they do.The item I purchased, a McIntosh MCD550, arrived DOA. There was nothing wrong with the shipping and the cosmetics were nice. There were random broken parts rolling around in the chassis, the player could not read the SACD layer of Hybrid discs and the headphone port did not work. This is what I can expect shopping at eBay. It was clear they took photos of this item and just listed it. I requested a phone call to discuss my repair options and was sent this, Unfortunately, due to the high volume of gear, we are dealing with, and for the sake of keeping everything in writing for our reference, we really need to stick to email for now.Seriously? My $4,500 dollar purchase that is DoA doesnt warrant a phone call to quickly discuss my options?I expressed my concern multiple times how disappointed I was with my experience. All they kept saying was, Thank you for your email and Im very sorry to hear that the McIntosh MCD550 CD / SACD Player is giving you troubleIf your CSR was more empathetic to my situation and just picked up the phone you would have had a customer for life.

My interaction with Nick was very positive on the phone & I placed an order for a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 300s. They were shipped promptly and arrived in a few days. They were double boxed with original boxes & all hardware, manuals, etc. Kudos to Nick for his fantastic service!!

What a great company this is, everyone from the contact person, to the sales person, to the technical people were absolutely amazing. A couple months ago I purchased a pair of Wilson Audio Witt series 2 speakers in really great original condition. TMR packed these in their original crates and they arrived halfway across the country in perfect condition. All I had to do was unscrew the crates, and roll the speakers in my music room, thankfully that’s on the first floor because these things are beasts at 230 pounds apiece. So I got them hooked up and after a couple hours of setting them up, I got them dialed in pretty good I started to do some critical listening. Wilson Audio speakers are not exactly easy to set up, but once they are it’s definitely a rewarding sound. Partway into my critical listening I had a glitch in the program, I blew some resistors in the one speaker. Wilson Audio has used resistors in their crossovers for quite a while, and I guess I went a little overboard with the volume, and these were the original resistors. Anyway I contacted the music room, and they had Wilson Audio send me all eight resistors for both speakers, and free of charge to me. They didn’t have to do that but they did, and that’s why I’m writing this review more or less. I’m not so sure many (or any) company dealing in mainly used audio products would’ve done what TMR did. Absolutely stellar support, and the customer really matters to this company, even after the sale.So how do they sound? I’ve heard a lot of people online give the thumbs down to this particular speaker, or overlook them for the Watt Puppies or others. I think they sound terrific, and I’ve had some very decent speakers including Revel, PSB, and others, but the Wilson’s are in another league.I highly recommend the music room, and will definitely do business with them again, thanks for everything guys.

I have not visited the showroom of this business, but they have an online presence, selling used premium audio equipment. Their selection of all things related to audio is vast, they accept trade-ins, and they sell new equipment as well, so they are an excellent source for components and knowledge of audiophile-related items and topics. For this transaction I was contacted by Nick Lucini, an audio expert and associate who reviewed my offer of a used receiver---and accepted it. As soon as I paid (the same day) it was shipped therefore I received it quickly. The quality was as stated (excellent) and I was reassured the support for the product did not end with the sale even though it was used. That was reassuring, but the receiver is perfect so far. Their descriptions are spot on, their prices more than fair, and they back their sales items which makes one feel they absolutely would like to have you back as a customer. More than likely I will. Heartily recommended to all audiophiles.

FAIR PRICING: I bought my McIntosh C45 from the Music Room. The item was listed a $x. The same item was listed on Audiogon from another seller for twice the price. Over the course of time, I observed that TMRs prices were reasonable (often priced to sell). I went ahead and bought my McIntosh MSD4 from them too. While I am waiting on the MSD4, the C45 was delivered yesterday. OEM packaging, plus a third extra cardboard box.Product grading: TMRs grading is conservative. The item arrived in perfect condition and was much better than it was described. they graded as 8 on 10. I think its more of a 9 on 10. They are extremely honest about the condition description and they post enough images to prove their point. Buying form TMR has been a great experience.

I recently purchased a April Music Stello DA100 Signature from TMR. This was my first purchase from TMR,and it went off without a hitch. I paid what I believe to be a fair price. Payment was made and the DAC was quickly shipped. The item was received unscathed,and actually in better condition than the photos showed. I am so pleased with my recent purchase of a Primare A30.2 from your store. The product was packed incredibly well - stiff cardboard with amp enclosed in form fitting dense foam. You could have dropped this amp off at my house right out of the airplane. Delivery time was really fast, shipping the day after my order; and no hang-up at the border from US to Canada. The amp is exactly as described; and sounds incredible in my system (thanks to Primare for that). My first transaction with TMR; but it surely wont be my last. Thanks. Unequivocal Recommendation!

I have bought and sold to TMR. On both occasions they were simply terrific. If you are buying their prices are very similar, if not below, to individual seller prices which is amazing considering they are a business with an overhead and an actual brick and mortar store. Their support is excellent, answered all my emails promptly and with such a deep level of expertise that surpassed even the manufacturers own knowledge of the product (a PS Audio P5 power plant in my case). If you want to sell them they make it very easy - send you a prepaid shipping label, even offer to pay you immediately, before they even received and inspected your equipment. From any perspective - these guys go above and beyond to make a customer happy. I will continue doing business with them for years to come.

I purchased a Cocktail Audio receiver from TMR. It was everything I wanted but after a couple of months an intermittent issue cropped up. The support staff at TMR, especially Peter Glenn and Lauren Hawkins couldnt have been more helpful and went to great efforts to get my issue taken care of over a several month period. I never expected this kind of support from an online seller but I couldnt be more pleased.Update 12/19:One of the key advantages of the X-35 is the ability to digitize analog recordings. Not only have I ripped a couple of hundred CDs but I have now digitized a couple of hundred LPs and over 150 hours of reel-to-reel tapes, cassette tapes and even 8-track tapes. All are now in one database on a 500GB SSD internal drive. It is a slow process as the analog recordings must be played at normal speed to digitize but the X-35 helps the process with a built in app that helps identify and separate the individual tracks, which you can tweak yourself. Also, you must create your own metadata (i.e, individually type in the names of the tracks, artist, composer, genre, etc.). The X-35 also includes an app that lets you search Google, Amazon, Bing, etc. for the album art. Its a lot of work but in the end you have a comprehensive database with all of your music, complete with cover art that is searchable in every possible way. When I first got the X-35 it had some software problems that have been subsequently fixed with updates. The most problematic of these was that you couldnt edit the Tag file or metadata without corrupting the while recording. Now you can edit the Tag file at any time, allowing you to go back and insert additional data. Finally, analog recordings are digitized as CAF files that cant be read anywhere else. I learned to use the X-35 to convert them to WAV files that are readable anywhere. You can also convert them to MP3s if you dont mind the quality degradation of that format. Finally, the X-35 allows you to burn your digitized analog files to a CD, helpful for playing in your car. Overall, I become more and more impressed with the device each time I use it.

Where do I even start... These guys are VERY straight shooters. I am NOT a high dollar customer with TMR, but they have been almost impossibly responsive to my emails. I have a question, and Rob @ TRM has a handful of options, and a question back making sure he fully understands my needs. This level of service is the ONLY think that separates most online retailers as far as Im concerned, and these guys certainly deliver. 5 Stars and a huge thanks. The Music Room is awesome! Our new home does not have a good space for my beloved ProAc standing floor speakers, so after exploring options for selling them, I consigned them through The Music Room. The TMR crew was super professional and they ended up selling them for a great price. Even after the consignment fee, I got much more for them than I would have gotten on Craigslist or e-bay! Now I just need to resist the temptation to buy one of the many sets of cool bookshelf speakers listed on the TMR website. I strongly recommend TMR for buying or selling high-end, pre-owned audio equipment.

This site/online store is an audiophiles/audio gearheads dream. They understand high-end used consumer audio gear like no one else out there - in a league of their own. The people who run the company are clearly also into the gear, and understand it, the audiophile community, and the market really well. I purchased a pair of Meridian DSP 5200s from them and traded in a classic Bryston amp and Rotel preamp. Working with them was smooth, theyre polite and engaged via email, responsive, their prices in either direction are fair. The speakers were packed and shipped professionally and with care, and had been carefully cleaned and put together and looked like they were new; their website features used gear arrayed tastefully and artistically with gorgeous photos that make my older gear look delicious. I browse it just because it makes me happy. Highly recommended.

Horrifying

I have bought and sold gear with them for 2 years now. They offer a great and relevant service. One has to understand that they are a re-seller, so what the offer you is fair but not the top dollar you can get if you sell your gear yourself (after all, they do have to make a profit to stay in business) and the prices they ask are fair market value. There really arent good ways for individuals to sell gear other than listing it yourself on Audiogon or US Audiomart (or ebay), so The Music Room really does offer a valuable service.

I have shifted my business to The Music Room over the last three years. Every item I have purchased, whether new or used has been spot-on as described. Their attitude, communication, trade-in policies and ethics are beyond compare. Kudos to the entire staff with special thanks to Rob, who has gone above and beyond to work with me and take great care of my obsession with audio. In seeing a short and bad review from someone and the owners response, it goes to show you that as a customer if you treat people with respect and honestly, you will get the same in return from the company you are doing business with. Got some amazing headphones at a great price! Please switch to UPS or something though, FedEx damn near gave me an aneurysm trying to deal with their customer service and god awful tracking system. Almost canceled the order because of it. Headphones are dope but Ill never order something expensive again that ships through FedEx.
