I ordered a Princess Torte from Popovers with pickup in Epping. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they made this cake as we previously had to travel to a bakery in Worcester to get them. I know its not an easy cake to make and it was beautiful and delicious! We will be ordering it regularly!
Ok Im giving them 5 ⭐ because our experiences when we eat IN the restaurant are always stellar. Food is great. The feta dip is over the top good. The desserts are yummy. The service is always fast and friendly. The woman at the register is a GEM! However, my first experience ordering online was not a good one. Two items were marked as no onion and one item asked for a salad instead of chips (with a 3$ charge) and we got lots of onions and no salad. I live 25 minutes away so I didnt bother calling or going back. Unfortunately, I wont be ordering online again. However we will be back in the restaurant.
The high barstool type chairs were a little uncomfortable. The food was okay. The iced tea was not freshly brewed. It tasted like those awful prebottled stuff sold at gas stations. It didnt taste like iced tea at all.The watermelon salad was overpriced for the size at almost $10 for such a small portion. The saladis shown in the picture. It also needed salt! The biggest problem was with the wait staff. I had to ask for a straw, salt, & pepper from a person who I think was the manager walking around doing little things like disinfecting tables. My waitress was never really around, and she entered my order wrong. I was supposed to have the roasted potatoes & not the french fries. If you go, double check your order when giving it.
I ordered a 40th birthday cake for my fiance and I wanted it to include his boat named Dushi (In Aruba that means sweet) and our bulldogs! We were not dissapointed!!! The cake was a hit!!! Everyone loved it and it also tasted delicious!! I attached some pictures. I will definitely be ordering from them again for future special cakes! Thank you Popovers! You have a talented baking team!!
Tonight was the first time here. After sitting for an hour and twenty minutes, the waitress came over and asked if everything was good....we said “well, we’re still waiting for our food”. Another lady came and said “we’re so sorry, she forgot to put your order in”. As we’re a couple bites in, they started to rush us out because it was closing time. Bill came out and they didn’t even discount a single penny after their complete blunder. First time here..,last time here. I’ve only given a one star review one time in all the times I’ve been doing it. If I could give a zero review on this place, I would.
Arrived just after opening on a busy Saturday. Place was about 30% full already. Was seated and server arrived promptly to get drink request and drop off menus. I ordered popover and a Monte Christo sandwich, wife ordered French Toast and a popover. Other tables got popovers before us and we though they had slipped off our order, we were correct. Once our meals came we asked about the popovers and 2 arrived almost immediately. I have to say my expectations were a bit high as they (both of them) were room temperature and unremarkable. Given that they named the place after them I expected more. My Monte Christo was very good and proper temperature. My wifes French Toast was nearly room temp and quite dry even with syrup, server noticed her disappointment and offered a replacement plate which was brought out quickly and hot. They were however also very dry like the first plate. Will likely not return as there are hundreds of other places we have not yet triedIn addition the place seemed very well kept and clean with the exception of the upholstered chair which were VERY grubby, especially on the backs where people grab them. Mine was one of the cleaner ones and was still pretty gross.
Stopped in tonight (Friday) at 8:30 to get a few desserts to go. Website says theyre open till 9:00.. doors were open people were still seated inside and we proceeded to get shooed out because they said they were closed sorry folks and I said we just want a couple desserts nope we were dismissed.
Their prices are always higher than I would expect but the food is good. They have outdoor seating, weather permitting, and certain nights of the week they have live music.
Pop overs are delicious. Lunch was fabulous. We had tomato soup & ham cheese quiche, salmon, carrots and rice. Everything was delicious. Service was prompt and very pleasant. Will be back.
A solid, okay. The food is fine, certainly didnt knock my socks off. The service was a bit careless (had to ask repeatedly for water, for example), and the interior is looking a little rough (they really need to clean their fabric chairs). If youre going to a movie, its a convenient option.
Such a great place for lunch! The only thing sweeter than the cupcakes is the friendly people there.
Even when they are totally busy my service n food have always been good. I like that the manager is hands on. I almost always see him out there talking to customers, carrying bus trays, or delivering food. My food has been a problem. It comes the way you expect.
Very good food and service... the pop-overs are amazing!
One of my favorite restaurants, ever. Delicious fresh food; everything I’ve had has been great.
Service was a little slow, food was really good.
Great place! We loved sitting outside! They have gluten free options all over the menu!
Easy lunch, had the daily special Crabcake BLT. Was pretty good. Also had the Banana Bread Pudding with Vanilla bean ice cream, candied walnuts and caramel sauce. Service was as usual. My wife loves this place.
Love the food and atmosphere. Always a pleasure to dine there. Love my waitress ❤️
This is really the only restaurant in Epping we visit regularly. We keep giving the others a shot but the food is just meh. Meanwhile Popovers is consistently delicious. We’ve watched the menu change over the years and it’s always adding new and interesting items. Going for a soup & sandwich is so rewarding. Deciding between the chowder and the tomato or the soup of the day is difficult. Never had a bad meal there, never had a so-so meal there. Consistently outstanding.
First and last time ever!! Food was great but completely unprofessional service all around. Hostess seemed annoyed when we walked in, waitress forgot to put our order in and brought the check right after our food. The couple next to us was clearly on a first date and we were all rushed out the door at 8:00 on a Saturday night! With so many amazing restaurants on the Seacoast, don’t waste your time on this one!
Probably the best burger I have ever had and that’s a bold statement!
Very disappointing! We use to love Popover’s (pre-Covid) but tonight was our first night back and it was awful! First, I guess I didn’t realize but the popovers are no longer included before the meal? I am assuming they have to be ordered? They were out of a lot of entree items so we pulled ended up with the Mac and cheese dishes - we’ve had it before and enjoyed it. However, after a very long wait, we received our dishes and it was okay. I had chicken added to mine which was served cold and bland. Both dishes weren’t very warm either and nothing great. $40 for 2 “entrees” and 1 beer isn’t bad for dinner but those dishes (macaroni noddles and runny cheese sauce) were not worth more than $12-15. I highly doubt we will ever return.
Delicious menu and extremely creative and extensive cocktails. Gotta get a popover!
Best Turkey Panini Around!
I love their popovers and sundae. I wish that they were open later. The cinnamon butter rocks too!
I stopped getting weekly coffees (making my own at home) so I can budget my newly developed popover addiction 😅 they are soooo good stuffed with breakfast yummys or along side a stew.... idk who I am fooling, they are great with everything or by themselves! And the staff are wonderful
I love Popovers! This is my go-to spot for lunch after a weekend movie. Also, my grandparents are regulars here. Before COVID, I loved joining them for lunch to sit down for a yummy meal. The majority of their menu is geared for brunch: soups, salads, sandwiches, and all-day brunch; but they also have entrees that are geared to dinner. As a vegetarian, my favorite thing to get are the Mix & Match (Sandwich, Soup, or Salad; choose 2) and then Ill ask for it without meat. Two tips: 1) Id personally suggest coming out here for brunch/lunch. Even if its busier, I find that the atmosphere is more homey and comforting during these hours. 2) If you are here during the holidays, please dont skip out on their special hot beverage menu. Its absolutely wonderful!
Great food and the drinks were even better
These folks make the best popovers on the planet. Very large, crisp outside and perfect inside. As a bonus they offer gluten free popovers which are also excellent. My wife also had a gluten free quiche while I went with a bowl of New England clam chowder. We ate outside no closer than 10 to another table. Restaurant is very careful Bout observing COVID-19 protocols.
Great food. Huge portions. The best Popovers you will ever have. Im gluten free & food is prepared with care. They have the best light & fluffy gluten free Popovers I will never find anywhere else. I recommend you go & taste the delish of the food that my mouth waters for. Yum
Popovers Epping has gone above and beyond with safety precautions. Just had a drink at the bar and felt 100% safe between the bar seating dividers and new HVAC system. Great job! We will be back soon.
Great food, friendly service, and reasonable prices.
Best food Ive had for months. The popovers are excellent!
Excellent always. Food is always great. Weve had Heather as a waitress several times. She is great. The manager Matthew is also great. He should get a raise and she should be promoted.
Excellent desserts .. the staff was very helpful
AMAZING desserts and pastries! Cant wait to return and try some of the other offerings here!
Friendly staff, great food!
This was my second visit to Popovers and it was lovely. We visited for a quick lunch and sat at a high top in the bar area. The atmosphere of Popovers is great, theres a ton of natural light, simple decorations, and just overall really clean and inviting. The bar area has three TVs which were all set to sports which isnt my thing but hey, its a bar. I dont know if this bar would be good for specifically watching a sports game as the TVs are mounted pretty high up and the volume kept low.Youre served popovers as a free appetizer. I am not a huge fan of popovers but they are good. Moist hollow inside, tender flaky crust. Youre given butter packets and I wish they provided their own butter instead - they make many items in house and plain commercial butter packets just dont fit in, IMO. I got clam chowder and half a sandwich; I dont actually remember which sandwich I had, but oh boy Popovers loves mayo. So much mayo. But the soup and sandwich were both delicious! I dipped my popover in the chowder which was great. We also got some baked goods to go. There are two whole cases of freshly baked cakes, pastries, cookies, etc. The chocolate mousse cup was amazing.
It was very good 👍
Delicious ganache!!!
The food and service was excellent. We sat outside and had a very enjoyable time. Dont pass up desert! Their cakes are so worth the calories!!
Food was good... Server was very pleasant and attentive. We sat at the bar and it was clean and enough room to socially distance... Thank you
Unique selections, awesome food, great atmosphere!
Friendly, good service
It doesnt matter if youre having a quick coffee and scones or a full meal, quality and quantity is their way. Highly recommend and highly appreciated. I tried their outdoor patio just the other day and had a good time. Service was great. You must remember two things - bring your appetite and bring your resolve because everything is delicious.
The clam chowdah is soo good!
I keep trying to love this place. They do a great job providing gluten-free options, but the quality is so inconsistent. We have had some great meals here, but you cant count on it. Today I had a $12 beet salad that was a giant pile of arugula, a meager sprinkle of goats cheese and walnuts and a couple of small pieces of beet that, unfortunately, I found had gone bad (mushy and off-tasting), salad was also under dressed and under seasoned. I sent it back, did not have to pay, but really no meaningful apology from the restaurant. I did not get the impression that anyone was particularly concerned. It is also expensive for the quality - lunch today for 2 adults and a child came to over $50, and that was with the salad being taken off the bill. Service is acceptable and fairly friendly. I probably wont be back - more poor experiences than good tipping the scales against.
A favorite Go To when heading home from my mother-in-laws. Their pop overseas, sandwiches, soups and cocktails are always good
Never had a bad experience. Service is good and staff is friendly.
Awesome food, super nice staff, regularly awesome atmosphere. They charge reasonable pricing and the food quality is fantastic. Highly recommended.
Very mediocre food. Desserts not worth the price. Too bad.
We had a lovely ladies lunch on a busy Sunday. There was a wait and then confusion with staff serving us, so we got off to a slow start. In the end, everything was good. Joe made up for it and gave us great attention and positive attitude. The smoked salmon salad was tasty and left me wanting more...
Hostess was NOT friendly at all. Waitress was great, but if youre over paying for lunch, everyone should be friendly.
Delicious food, lots of COVID precautions taken, cute outdoor dining area! Can’t wait to go back!
Nice lunch, freshly made sandwiches with quality ingredients. Cocktails were tasty and the staff was friendly and attentive to our needs.
Great pancakes and quiche. Coffee is strong (one of us had hot tea, and it was fine). Remind me next time you track me going there that we should try some other dishes because we need to branch out on the menu).
Love their roast beef sandwich!
The food is always yummy! The pastries are out of this world and the service and management are fantastic. I think of this as an excellent place for lunch as many of the meals leave you feeling light but still full. Ive tried the majority of the soup and they are excellent, especially the seasonal specials. Also, the Market Salad is my FAVORITE! Dont skip out on getting the maple butter with your popover!
Been going to Popovers for quite awhile now and always had very decent food, but found the menu choices very limited. Stopped there Saturday for lunch with some friends and was excited to see a newer more diverse menu!Same very good food as I indulged in their help pound Angus burger and was not disappointed... Enjoy!
Excellent food and always some interesting and tasty specials. A wonderful dessert selection, a great place to stop and pick up the perfect cakes, pies or cookies for any occasion be it a special one or just because. The folks working there are always polite and pleasant. Weve never had a bad experience there, a frequent stop for me and mine.
Very welcoming. Good food. Great service
A destination place for breakfast or any time! Matthew and Company provide excellent service and well-presented, delicious locally sourced food! The coffee is a perfect compliment to any meal.. and..the desserts are fantastic creations! Moderately priced too. :)
Had breakfast there for the first time. Popovers omelet was very good. Outdoor seating was great. Wait staff was friendly and efficient.
My husband and I visited Popovers in Epping years ago when it first opened and werent really impressed. Simple sandwiches and questionable service were probably a function of their new-ness back then. We ended up popping in (pun intended) about a week ago before a movie and were pleasantly surprised. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the laid back atmosphere while enjoying a beer. We both got delicious dinners ... cooked quickly and expertly! The service was great - very friendly and helpful. Popovers will definitely become on of our regular stops!
On line has a much better menu and 3 times more then what the restaurant has to offer
Pleasant atmosphere. Some booth seating, high top tables in the bar area, patio seating, and a small bar with about 10 seats. Food is good. Deserts are a specialty. Prices are fair. Good selection of local beers.
Got there early for lunch...place was packed with limited waiting room. Rather cold day so no out side seating or waiting. Ordered soup and salad and dessert. Food and dessert were okay, pricey for what we got; soup was warm not hot. Took a long time to arrive...kitchen was backed up so didnt send it back. Desserts and mini popovers seem to be the draw. Tried it ... No need to come back.
Absolutely a wonderful place for a meal! Great for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner, or just stop in for one of their fab desserts. They have many, many gluten free choices on their menu and are able to make most anything on the menu gluten free. The gluten free part is most important to me as I have celiac disease. They also make great drinks and awesome fresh ground coffees.
Glorified diner food. Stopped in for brunch this morning and was so disappointed. I had an egg sandwich that had a huge bun and only a little dry fried egg. Fiancé had the quiche which was bland and dry as well, like it had been in the refrigerator for a couple of days. We got a side order of waffle fries which came out soggy(Probably frozen and just didn’t cook them long enough). The space itself needs some serious updating as well. The walls are dented and marked up and the bench seats are worn out and torn. At least they make decent cakes....
Good food, immaculate place. Well staffed. Popovers are their specialty as seen in the name. Diverse menu and extensive dessert choices are the norm. I would recommend this place wholeheartedly. The food here is the same as their facility in Portsmouth N.H.
My son and I love Popovers! We love going here for special occasions. Always a great meal . Definitely save room for dessert!
Great meal!! Very busy so it took a little longer to get service and food. Our drink was very good!! Sat outside and that was really nice. Definitely going back AGAIN!!
The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We had absolutely no complaints. One of us had salmon which was perfectly cooked and the other had jambalaya which was equally delicious with the shrimp and sausage tasting exactly how you would like it to taste.
Long wait for outside COVID seating, but food is always reliably delicious
Waitress very pleasant. Food not so. After taking our order and offering to bring small popovers, she returned in under 5 minutes with the popovers AND our dinner, jokingly saying how quickly our meal had been prepared. Ie: it was precooked and sitting under a warming lamp! They had only to dish it out. I could have eaten at Panera and had more process put into the meal. The waffle fries were cold! Vegetable quiche contained undercooked veggies and bottom crust was dough. Sadly even the popovers were not warm.We will not return.
Popovers are the best - they live up to the place being named after them. Deserts are pretty good. We tried having lunch here a few times, but the lunch entries were never as good as the popovers themselves. Now we consider it strictly a desert or popover stop.
Diverse menu. Very warm and friendly atmosphere inside. Loved the outside patio. Food was served quickly. My waitress was very professional and personable. I would definitely go to this local restrauant again.
There were 2 friends with me. Everyone loved their meal. The waiter, Ben, was great. If you havent been....they give you complementary mini popovers and butter while you are waiting for your meal....YUM.
Awesome
Food was not good. Service was average. Get a Popover with extra honey butter and drive directly to Bensons to get great food and service
Went for breakfast/brunch. Long wait, 30-45 minutes. Hostess was rude, and so was the manager. Waitress was great. Food servings weren’t consistent and very small breakfast menu.requested a meal with specific things left out and it came with them. Politely asked the manager who delivered the food to our table to bring the item we requested. Rolled his eyes and made a huge deal of it. News flash you’re in the service business, smile and do what the customer requests.Won’t be going back.
Great sandwiches and entrees. Never disappointed!
Ample parking. Ordered a cake by phone. Great service. Very nice inside. Perfect for lunch.
Food was awesome and outside dining felt good.
We were highly disappointed with the food. All good intentions gone bad with the kitchens failure pay attention to the details. The tuna tatar appetiser was overly salty with excess soy sauce. There clam chowder was more like a potato soup with a clam or two swimming by. They even missed with their BLT sandwich, it was more like a order of toast with mayo. Extremely skimpy on the three main ingredients. Their short ribs were tasteful, worth the extra star, only to be ruined by the chefs failure to drain the water from the steamed broccoli before plating . . . causing a lake on the plate. Too bad because we were hopeful this may be our new go to place based on other reviews.
Have been before and it was great. We were seated in the patio. It was not super busy. We sat and waited for over 15 minutes and still no one had come to take a our order not even a drink. We walked out and will not go back.
We stopped in here on a whim after returning from a camping trip.Sort of an odd location with a front deck overlooking a plaza parking lot but very comfortable. The food looked amazing but I had to hold back a star because it was stone cold when it got to us, which wasnt a particularly slow service (maybe 20-25 minutes?)It was almost as if it had been cooked right when we ordered it and then sat waiting to be served.Could have been an off day.The flavors were good but everything felt kind of like we were eating food at the end of a party. We have them 3 stars but this honestly would have been a solid 4 stars if the food was brought out when it was ready to be served.Definitely worth trying.Good atmosphere and decent looking bakery as well.
Food and service great.
I love this place to pieces. Gluten free options abound including desserts. A little pricey but totally worth it. Clean place, friendly and fast service, full bar.
