Car sale or Purchase is not an easy task. Most dealers make it a game, instead of keeping it straight.You may agree or disagree with the price offered by CarMax, but at the end of the day CarMax makes it straight forward and simple.You do not need special negotiation skills or go through a big drama to buy or sell a car with CarMax. Had multiple interaction with them over the years, service was always exceptional, very professional and straight forward.

My overall experience with my sales guy Giovanni was good until they ran my credit again when I already had an approval through them with Capital one. I got that approval 3 days before my appointment. Why would the same company have to run your credit 2 times. I almost walked out. But I got a great vehicle that my wife loves.

My experience with CarMax was exceptional. I live in Tucson, AZ. I was looking for a good tow vehicle for our small trailer. Good tow vehicles are equipped differently than most of the trucks on the road. So, I needed to have a wide search radius. The CarMax web page made this easy to do. I found the perfect truck in Baltimore, 2300 miles away. I put a hold on the truck on the web page, called the CarMax site to get questions answered and three days later flew to BWI. The sales person, Kwamina Dickson, was perfect. No pushy upselling. I arrived at 11:30AM and was on the road to Tucson by 3PM. I think it is widely understood that the car sales business, especially at dealerships and used car lots, is high pressure, unreliable and altogether slimy. It appears that CarMax is providing a reliable alternative.

We went in to sell our SUV. We expected to be there no more then an hour. We ended up spending 2 hours. We felt like we were at a dealership going through the process of buying a vehicle. Instead of trying to sell one.The longest part was actually getting our money for the vehicle we sold. Just didnt seem like a great sense of urgency on their part to speed up the process. Disappointing.

Buying a car is the easiest. But when time to pay and car get fixed under max care what a joke... All Im trying to do is pay my car note and due to a system update and many times of my trying to get to them on the phone to make my payment I have had no luck to reach anyone I get to holdings with music playing saying there is 199 calls ahead of me. Is this a joke. Do you guys sell cars and not have enough people to service and pick up phones to take payments. But having the sales flow packed with sales staff.... I need someone from corporate to call me and reply to this message for the vm I leave never get answered back ........this is very frustrating

Although the purchasing process was stress free, Im not 100% satisfied. The car needed detailing and granted the car arrived and I purchased it before their detailing people were onsite, they could have waited another day and had it fresh and smelling good. Its quite musty and has a few stains. I also found that the a/c doesnt work and rear windshield washer fluid doesnt work. Not sure if thats part of their checklist when selling but still annoyed I have to take the car back and I only had it 2 weeks. Also they were aware the car needed detailing I am scheduled for detailing, hence the score of 3.

My experience started off great. I bought a 2012 Hyundai accent hatchback. It was the car I wanted for now so I was excited knew I wanted to keep it and decided to go on a road trip. About a thousand miles in I started to hear a slight grind sound. It went away so I paid it not much attention but kept my ears open. Long story short upon returning home the grinding sound was very loud seemed to labor the mobility of the car. Ive only had the car 2 weeks and its not drivable. I have the maxcare warranty so well see how they handle this. I dont feel like I should have to come out of pocket for anything and it should be quick and they should give me a rental until my car is repaired. So far they gave me an appointment two weeks away. So I guess they expect me to not work for 2 weeks. Not good so far.......In continuation... I got my loaner car drove it home after running a few necessary errands. I had to drive to Frederick this morning. I thought I heard a weird sound but when I turned the radio down I heard nothing. I continue on my drive this continued to happen. I have returned home after work and rest assured anytime I exceed 40 mph theres a very loud knocking noise. So now the loaner car that took me days to get was not in good condition.I have also upgraded my rating because the problems with my car are not connected to this particular CarMax branch. It was shipped from a branch in Connecticut. They took care of me in the end.

Came in to sell my car. There was a little bit of waiting at each step--waiting for the advisor, waiting for them to confirm the online appraisal value and waiting for the cashiers office to process the check and subsequent paperwork. The whole process took less than an hour and a half.

It is an understatement to say that the car buying experience is stressful for all who undergo the process. While my Honda 2013 Civic LX was in good shape and ran without issue (besides wear and tear) and had several more thousands of miles to go, my fear of missing out compelled me to want a vehicle that was more fun (turbocharged with a manual).I came into the Ellicott City Carmax and met with Pete Mack. I was very fortunate to meet with him; his pleasant demeanor and calm attitude put me at ease. In addition, Pete was flexible and gracious with his time in meeting me for two test drives and answering my calls. Pete was also very transparent with the transactions additional expenses, including the Carmax paperwork fees, state taxes, and any optional warranty coverage I elected to add to my purchase.In short, Ive no regrets and love my new Civic Si. The sales department (Ellicott City Location MD) people were ok although it seems like a revolving door for employees. We bought a vehicle from them and our sales guy kept disappearing to ask other people for help. The process of buy took7 hours. So much waiting. Overall just ok sales people. The Service department is another one, NO one knows what the heck is going on. Consistently people asking other people, passing the buck. I inquired several times about my car and was constantly told they had new people and “they” really didn’t know procedures. Took them forever to just put on two new tires. Want decent service for your car and can’t wait all day, you need to go some place else. Service Dept. deserves a F grade, major fail.

The sales Team in Ellicot City was awesome, from appraisal all the way through I was shown great service, unfortunately my experience started at White Marsh with poor customer service, wrong Info, and an entirely horrible Customer Communication. In White Marsh I waited three weeks for a truck that was less than 50miles away . I never got updates, the dealership told me I should be Grateful, even though I paid for the service, that it was transferred. They told me they couldn’t do anything for me and gave no resolution to a title issue . Just poor service and it absolutely shows. Absolutely Terrible . Go to Ellicot city,

I had a very very bad experience with this carmax. I bought a car on 09/21/21 and after that i feel it has a problem with break so when i called them for service requests they told me that after 15 days means 10/11/21 i can get appointments for check and diagnose vehicle, so according to them i have to drive a car which has a problem with break for 15 days more though its only 4 days before I bought a car from them only. Even to get a car i got too much trouble. I nevere go to this carmax anymore or even i will never suggest any of my friends never go to this Carmax for any work. I have 3 cars from carmax but i had never face this type of issaues.

Great buying process! Got preapproved. Had vehicle shipped for free to location nearest to my home. As soon as the car was ready, we spent about 2.5 hours signing paperwork while they got SUV prepared. Our salesman was awesome! I cant remember his name, but he was great! Car transfer process takes way too long and is expensive! 2K to transfer a car I dont even own yet from another Carmax. If I knew Id still be waiting 30 days later, I would have never! 🤦🏾‍♀️Update: Finally got the car after 6 weeks instead of 2. Ive had the car only 2 weeks now and type this from the side of the highway because the tires are dry rotted and blew out while I was driving.

My experience was good until I left the lot. Carmax in Ellicott City is terrible. They failed to notify MVA that i was transferring my old tags to my new car. As a result MVA is charging me a fee for not having insurance on the old car which I traded in to Carmax. No one at Carmax is taking responsibility for dropping the ball. I would not recommend going there!!

Couple of years ago was given an offer of 7.5k for a car I sold for 14k a few days later. They made up non existent frame damage, and didnt include all the options in the estimate and tried to tell me that model didnt exist. When caught in a lie they mumble something and run away. More recently went there again and was given an offer of 12k for a car dealer paid me 17k for. Again, they didnt include all the options in their estimate, seems like their business model is to lie and to cheat and the only reason to go there is to laugh at their horrific offer. So selling your car to carmax is probably the dumbest financial decision you can ever make short of gambling with your retirement money.

Great experience selling a vehicle to CarMax. I completed an online offer ahead of my appointment. It took 20mins for CarMax to check out my vehicle and come back with an offer. Their online offer matched the in-person offer exactly! I had a unique situation where I was selling a vehicle on behalf of an estate and I did not have all of the paperwork necessary to complete the sale on the spot. Patrick, Eboni, and team helped me get necessary paperwork to get the vehicle sale as close to completion as possible to I could return home to Atlanta and complete the sale remotely (upon receipt of the outstanding paperwork). Ive bought at least 10 cars from Carmax over the years (we have 4 children) and this had to be one of the best experiences. Everyone was friendly and helpful. This is a smaller store (compared to Laurel, for example) and that might have something to do with it. Rob Unger, our sales consultant was top notch. Professional but genuinely friendly and nice. Open and honest. Patient with our questions as we discussed a late model, high mileage Jeep Cherokee. Anita from the finance team, came out and made the paperwork super easy. Ive long been a Carmax fan but I would go the extra miles to buy my next car here.

CarMax is selling people cars that have issues. 1 month after I bought my car the engine misfired. I believe that the engine already had misfired before I purchased it. So 1 month later it’s at its worst possible point and the car isn’t driveable. Been waiting an ENTIRE week for them to fix it. 7 whole days for a car I just purchased. Very disappointed. I watched another lady yell at the sales associates because her car has several things wrong as well a short while after she bought it, and they were refusing to fix it. My advice, don’t make CarMax an option for buying a car. I do not recommend.

These guys are really great. In my experience every staff person seems motivated to make dealing with car issues their problem and not yours. My experience in purchasing and subsequent extended warranty work has been virtually seamless. In most cases, super-easy and fast. Dont worry about COVID, they dont touch your car until it practically belongs to them. The appraisal is quick and painless. The staff were very friendly and easy to work with. Very good price on the car that I purchased. I went through Carmax because of their reputation for only selling thoroughly inspected cars with no hidden damage. Employee who set up my cars shipment from NC was competent and very helpful, but told me that the 7-14 day shipping window would be closer to 7 days - the car only became available to me on day 15. Salesman at the dealership was knowledgable but it would have been helpful if I had been given more than 20 minutes to test drive the car. Finance person was knowledgable and very competent, she made the financing and delivery process very smooth and easy. One minor issue that I had was promptly and fairly handled by Carmax. Everyone in my purchase process was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend Carmax for used car purchases.

I purchased a 2013 Nissan Rogue which had to be brought back for service the next day. However, one member of the Service department name Mr. Heri Innocent helped save the day when I returned to pick up my vehicle next day after being serviced. I was a little disappointed to see the mud marks were still on my door. He placed my vehicle for car wash thoroughly cleaning since it was two days new. Heri was more than kind to me. Our transaction was a great experience. I set up an online appointment to sell our car. A rep called me to suggest we obtain an online appraisal and sent us the link to make that happen. After submitting the info about our car, we had an offer by email in shortly over 1/2 hour...one that we felt was fair and were happy with. This truck was difficult to find, but I found it in Nebraska and had it transferred to Baltimore. Prior to shipment, I was asked if I had any questions about the truck since I had only seen it online. I asked them to check if their were any scratches, and I was told that it did not have any scratches. Therefore, I told them to proceed with the transfer. Once the truck arrived, upon my inspection, I found several large scratches when the tailgate is opened up (see pictures). These scratches were not significant enough or visible enough for me to decline purchasing the vehicle. However, I did ask if something could be done about it, monetarily or otherwise. We then waited at least 20 minutes for my salesperson to find a manager in order to review the scratches. In the meantime, my salesperson asked me what my transfer fee was for the vehicle, implying that maybe he could have that waived. Once a manager was found and several of them reviewed my complaint. My salesperson came back to me only to let me know that after careful consideration the management had decided that they would be willing to do nothing in order to compensate for the scratches on the bed. My immediate reaction was to ask to speak to a manager.Once the manager came over, he was immediately confrontational and argumentative. He explained that Carmax would never have found those scratches and that they would not have done anything about them if they did. This I could not understand. They were clearly not thorough enough. I specifically inquired about scratches on the vehicle, but it seems as though they only gave a cursory examination of the vehicle. Simply opening the tailgate would have revealed them right away. At one point in the discussion, the manager stated something incorrect about the location of the scratches and I asked him if he had actually seen them. He said no, but he had seen pictures. I was shocked that he had not even bothered to go out on the lot and look at the scratches to see for himself. To me, this demonstrated a true disregard for the client. Also, he attempted to call my bluff on whether I would still buy the car or would like to find a different one, knowing full well that they did not have anything else like it on their lot. Truthfully, I did not appreciate the gamesmanship that he was attempting with me. I hadnt planned on sitting down for a poker game.After a long, unprofessional exchange on the part of the management team, I explained to them in no uncertain terms that Carmax misrepresented the vehicle as being without scratches. Upon confronting them with this, their choice was to debate the point with me and attempt to prove me wrong rather than apologize, which the manager never did at any point, and try to truly remedy the situation.Ultimately, after a long debate and disagreement, they agreed to refund half of my transfer fee, which I explained was not satisfactory considering Carmaxs misrepresentation of the condition of the vehicle, however minor it may be, and the disrespect and dismissive attitude with which I was treated by management. I strongly believe I should not have had to argue and debate my point extensively before the management finally conceded to provide a small allowance. A credit for the transfer should have been provided right away and with absolutely no argument with the customer.I would strongly caution trusting the management team at this store and probably consider looking at other options first.

This place is amazing! They have a ton of cars, and the sales staff is great. I will say that the lot is a bit weirdly laid out - it sort of wraps around the building. There are some other CarMax stores in the area that are a bit better laid out - mainly Gaithersburg and Laurel. However, this store still did a great job, and I did end up buying a vehicle from them! I highly recommend it!
