Great selection of international foods. However, beware: check the expiration dates on the products before purchasing! The store is not well organized and so quite a few items on the shelves are past their expiry date. The fresh fruit and vegetable section is consistently fantastic - no expired goods in this section!
Get your groceries at affordable prices
Not the cleanest store but they do have a lot of products from many countries. It’s been some time since I’ve been here but the last time I came the bottle of tea I bought was expired and I came to change it that’s all.
Look, Food World is a 5 star experience for some people and some purposes, but it is not for everyone. If you are looking for something strange, Korean, or just international, they may have it. The aisles are crammed with all kinds of goods, some in quantities that are inexplicable even for commercial purposes (e.g. - tubs of gojuchang large enough to compost in, gallon jars of kimchi). It is one of the few places in Durham that you can go and instantly feel as though you are in another country (although which country isnt quite clear). If you are looking for a sanitized neat clean grocery expedition with customer service reps, Food World is not for you. Thats OK. Not everything is for everyone.
One of the best places to buy food. Large, huge selection of grocery items, with a focus on Asian, mostly Korean, and Central American foods, as well as some African and Caribbean foods. There is also a place to eat prepared Mexican food there, and although I have not tried it, it looks delicious and authentic.
I had called to see if they were open, the owner answered. I also asked if the taqueria was still selling food. The owner told me to not call again and hung up..Ive been here a few times, Ive NEVER had any issues with any other employee, its always just the owner (the older male).
We love the store for its huge selection of international food from all over the world. Where else can you find whole isles of South American, Caribbean, East Indian, and African grocery items. They have a lot of the spices, canned goods, and other stuff that you see in the local shops overseas. They also carry bulk staples and have an impressive selection of cookware of the sort you see in Hispanic and Asian Restaurants. The owners are Korean so they have a lot of Asian stuff. They also have a huge selection of Mexican and South American stuff, including and eat-in/take-out Mexican cafe/bakery in the store. Both the exterior and interior of the store are a bit shabby, but dont be put off by the stores appearance.
The only place Ive ever found Irish Moss Peanut Drink (aka the most delicious drink in the world). Highly recommend giving it a try with spicy food! The tacos here are great as well.
Great selection of products from Latin America and good prices. Staff is friendly and ready to help you. However, the place can use a good cleanup.
Excellent for hard-to-find Hispanic, African and Asian items. Plenty of plantains, ginger, peppers...and cookware. The Hispanic restaurant inside is excellent. I wish the store was cleaner and some of the produce fresher.
I love this grocery store. It might be a little turn off from the appearance but it has everything you need and for a fair price. It has a mix of Hispanic with Asian. The taco shop inside is so good. Bring cash for the taco bar because credit is not accepted.
Good place to get most of my Caribbean cooking ingredients. Most employees are friendly except the Asian male owner, who can be quite rude at times. Otherwise, a pleasant experience.
Great selection of Asian and Central/South American food. The prices are very competitive, and the service is friendly.I live about 30 minutes away from this place, but make the trip about once every 2-3 weeks. Its worth it.The mexican food here (made to serve) is AMAZING! I would give it 6 stars if I could. Make sure you try it out if you go. Its authentic to the core. And it does help to speak Spanish when ordering. The couple who owns Food World is also very friendly and people of high integrity.
New to the area and scouting places to purchase ingredients to prepare food I like. A bit cluttered, not the friendliest staff (cashier never spoke, and another employee walking the isle saw me searching for something, but didnt offer assistance), but I found everything I needed and pricing was reasonable. This was the first of 3 places nearby I plan to visit, so I could possibly shop here again, unless the other 2 places offer better options and at least speak to customers.
Whatever you do dont come here unless you plan to spend money on their personal mask because doesnt matter if you bring your own mask or a bandana or anything else you must buy their masks or they wont let you in
Customer service is horrible. If I could give them a negative score I would. This is the worst place to shop, there food sit on the shelf for a long time. The employees are always in a bad mood, the place is dirty. The owner is rude. I bought an item from them which they carelessly bagged, it was ripped when I got home and contaminated with other can items. When I went to exchange it they said they had nothing to do with it and I should eat the contaminated food. Why would I eat something that can products where people have been touching are rubbed all inside of it. They take no responsibility for anything even though they are dirty. Not a good place to shop, unless you are desperate. If you have options to shop ethnical food seek else where. Keep your family safe and dont eat dirty or spoiled items.
UPDATE 2-1-18: Went in the store today to pick up plantains (the ONLY item I purchase from the store every 3-4 months). The Asian woman who was bagging said something to the cashier and pointed at me.First of all, you are in a low rent district and you want to talk about me or point fingers? Im rarely in your store because I dont care for the location. But since you have the cheapest plantains, when I have a taste for them, I buy them here.I cordially speak to you and because Im Black, you both look at me like Im beneath you and dont open your mouth? The sad thing is you are showing your IGNORANCE and stereotypical demeanor. You automatically think because Im Black, Im nothing? Well let me say this. I will NEVER stoop to your level of ignorance. However, I do want my people to know what to expect when they patronize your store. And lastly, the way you treat others, it will definitely come back to bite you. Some people call it Karma but Id rather refer to it as Gods vengeance because He doesnt like ugly.I will continue to get my plantains every 3-4 months. Oh, youd better watch how you treat people because you never know who you are entertaining. It could be an angel from heaven and you could miss a blessing by being so obnoxious, rude and racist.5/2017 The owners are very unfriendly and racist (especially towards blacks).
The store is nasty they need to clean up
Two words. GREAT SAMGYEOPSAL. If youre Korean or like Korean food, thats all you need to know. But its a good price per pound, too. Staff is nice, too.
First let me start off with the good. They have a great price on flan and an impressive selection of international foods. I went today to take back some cheese I purchased on Sunday and did not have the receipt. I asked the cashier about returning and she said that she could not take it back without a receipt. So I asked just to be clear, if I found the receipt could I take it back. Then she called another associate over to converse with him in Spanish. Then he pointed to the date and since it wasnt expired that he couldnt return it even with receipt. I then motioned to him that it was the smell. He then smelled it and offered it to the next person in line to smell. He then called the manager over, who have very well also been the owner. He did not engage me initially so I waited in line. I thought he was fine assisting the previous customer so I began to say ok sir, he then held up his hand and rudely said wait wait wait! I did so, and then explained myself and the situation. He then said even if I had the receipt that he wouldnt return and if I had a problem then call the manufacturer. He then pointed out that the bottom of the receipt states the return must be within 24 hours. What offended me was the lack of respect afforded to me as a customer. This store is extremely convenient to me as its literally thirty seconds away by car, but with this experience, Ill take the majority of my business back up the road to Kroger.
Very bad customer service. I called to see what time the close due to all this about Covid19 and as soon as I asked her she was like seven seeeeeveeeeeeen. I just hang up.
I went searching for snow crab legs in local grocery stores in the area & when I walked inside OMG it was so nasty! There was a stinky smell that was reeking at the entrance. Items were scrambled everywhere and the fresh meat section looked like it was sickening to eat! I will NEVER go there again. Smh
They have a great selection of Asian and Hispanic foods and other goods. I found everything Ive ever needed for certain recipes here. Their prices are great but their customer service not so great to me, I assume a language barrier.
Huge selection of International Groceries. Plus some of the best tacos in Durham!
The noodles from here are good. And they have mochi too.
HORRIBLE!!! I was so excited to finally find a store that had South American products that I cant find anywhere else only to show up and be disappointed because EVERY SINGLE item I picked up was expired. They lower the prices for the expired stuff, which makes sense, but then they didnt have ANY of the products that I wanted that were within their expiration date. I wouldnt mind paying regular price for them. One item had an expiration date of 2014...let me say that again 2014!!! If youre going to have a store and advertise certain Latin products, then have the decency to have adequate quality control or just dont get those items. It was disgraceful. I ended up not buying ANYTHING from the store and just left disappointed.
Great selection. They dont have chocolate chips, but all the good Asian and Mexican international products are here.
Variety of foods, grocery, diversity of culture foods and items. Prices a goodFast food is amazing
Cool store. Hard to describe what youll find here. Hard to name what you wont.
Great Asian and Hispanic food selections. Amazing prices too! I prefer the coop for my produce and meats, but for the price conscious, this cant be beat! Also, love to come here for my Korean food needs. They have a great Korean ramen selection... Mmm! 🍜
Awesome store with a great selection of Asian and Hispanic food and products. If youre interested in a store that looks real and is stocked with merchandise you wont find at Wal-Mart, this is the place for you. Great ethnic store!
Great shopping experience. I enjoyedthe variety of ethnic produce and other selections. Plan on returning.
Prices are so so, not exactly what I was looking for but found some of what I needed. I dont think Ill buy there again. There is a gigantic mess in the store. The staff was very helpful, though.
Good supermarket, if youre looking for fresh meat and veggies this is a good option for you, also there are many other interesting stuff that you can try like, baked bread from the bakery and desert from cocoloco yummy just went there for first time and I passed a good time.
Got all the international products I need! My one-stop shop for any African goods, same goes for pretty much any Tropical country, meats, produce, correct plaintains, drinks etc etc the need some solid shopping carts tho😔
Good place for international food stuff. Moderate prices.
I love going the it has so many snacks that you will enjoy
Wide selection of food, but almost everything is expired. The store is also pretty dirty and unorganized. Staff is unfriendly and basically ignores you :///
Grocery store featuring Mexican and Asian foods. In-store restaurant, cheap vegetables and meats, as well as a large variety of foods make this a good shopping place.
Fantastic array of authentic foods from around the world at very reasonable prices!
They have reasonable prices for world international food, but one of their cashiers is really rude- she never smiles and only allows the baggers to bag for her own people. If you are of a darker complexion, she will not call the baggers to come and bag the items( especially if you have a lot of things). Watch out for her.
Good prices on some things, but selection is limited and cleanliness of store doesnt match food lion or others.
Nice clean store and a large selections of items.
Awesome selection of products but not very friendly
Doesnt boast a fancy storefront but its a great Latino supermarket!! No tiene gran apariencia pero es un supermercado excelente! Great selection of Latino American foods, coffee, teas, sweets, spices... You can buy beans in bulk. Good variety of meats but... limited selection of fruits and vegetables. They prepare food, if youd like to eat there or take out.
Good for asians or others but very low selection for Americans
Bad customer service from the old lady with the mole in her face, no respect she as at all. Due to her the store dont even deserve two star
I thank it is cheaper than other Korean grocery stores including Hmart and kindly.
This is the craziest place. Half hispanic foods, half asian foods. Not the best selection of either, but decent for both. The building is old and not well maintained, and the store is very cluttered, with stacks of unopened cases all over the store. But in spite of that, I always enjoy looking around to see what unusual and hard-to-find products they have. Its right downtown, so its in a very convenient location. There is also a taqueria and panaderia inside which I have yet to try, as well as clothing and trinkets. They have a great selection of cookware and kitchen gadgets typically used for asian and hispanic cooking. I love browsing their frozen foods section, as well as their produce department, where I can usually find things that are uncommon in normal supermarkets.
Ive been in this store maybe four times, and out of the four times I was treated with disrespect twice. The first time I waited in line, and waited and finally when it was time to ring up my item the owner or manager without saying a word brings someone up ahead of me and rings them up as though I had not been standing there. The only reason I went back today was due to needing cups for work. I went to family dollar, but they did not have the size cups I needed. This store is next door to family dollar therefore I went in against my better judgment and before I could get pass the front, I saw a hand pointing to the floor and I looked over and he pointed to the floor again and gestured again and said for me to put my bag on the floor He made no eye contact and spoke to me as though I was less than human. I looked him in the eye, and asked who he was speaking to that way and then he decided to make eye contact and say you have groceries. I made it known to him the last time I came in the store I was treated improperly, and he walked off without saying a word, and I left. Never again. PLEASE DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE!!!
I tried to give this place another shot and a lot of their things were expired. This is not a place you should go if you expect edible food or good customer service.
Good selection of international produce, but 0 customer service
Smells funky, but has a large verity of international foods.
Ok, hit or miss at times. Has a good selection of African foods but watch the expiration date
Best international grocery in the area, hands down. Ill come back for hard to find items for sure.
Not the cleanest world market, BUT you can pretty much find whatever foods you need and I appreciate the variety of all types of foods: african, hispanic, asian, and even european foods. Customer service is ok; their cashiers are rude at times.
Best place to get Argentinian food in the Triangle area.
Store food is ok but the store owner was so rude I was checking out and he threw the bag at me didnt make eye contact and didnt say a word to us. Wouldnt recommend, you can find everything at that store somewhere else. 0/10
Everything Caribbean I need!! Stuff my grandmother used to cook is in there!! I get so excited when I go in there. It gives me that Island girl shopping in Brooklyn feeling.
Amazing always fun to visit
Great place with low prices.
Great place for buying food from other countries
Very very rude korea old guy.
The store never looks clean. I needed bell pepper, only reason for patronage.
Psst. They have a full boost mobile store inside!
Slot of different types of food from different countries
Low prices grocery store. Quick checkout.
Not bad. Not great. Just an average store with an okay variety of products.
Nice selection of specialty items
Unhelpful; disappointed. others in the area are much better - Li Mings!
Not. Good at all
Good tropical fruits and vegetables.
Owner is very unpleasant. Need to be more respectful of people.
2.25 stars. I went b/c a prior review said prices were comparable to and even lower than H-Mart. Untrue. Prices on most items (incl. general) are quite a bit higher than both H-Mart and Wal-Mart. Most fish is dried, so dont go if looking for fresh fish.
Good customer service, well stocked
I have been here a few times, I question their sanitation system. Smells of rotted meats at times and I dont believe Ill be going back.
Dont know much about this store
Convenient close to everything
You can find everything there love this place
Variety of all types of food from different countries
Poor produce, very limited selection, and is a weird hybrid of a Family Dollar store/grocery store. Very dirty.
It always a good experience at food world
Good Mexican food!
I can sit back and rely on you to get me there every time thank Google map
Great selection of fresh veggies
The wine selection was great
Lots of variety but check the dates of expiration saw some things that expired 2017 in Aug 2018.
They didnt have a Western Union
Though the have so many things lacking in other store, Some of their cashier have terrible customer service.
I got some chips there and they were too salty and steal
Large variety of international foods but make sure you check the expiration date
You can find almost any type of International Food here
All your shopping needs
CASHIER TOLD ME TO BAG MY OWN..JACKASS!!!
Variety of items not found at a traditional grocery store
The food was excellent
