The best plant shop in Durham! Always have a few new plants every time I go in. Staff is super friendly and always gives good advice on plant care. Also my go to place to get cute cards and gifts!

After walking by many times and even reading out it, I decided to stop by to show some support. My office needed a little greenery and this was the right place. The staff person was extremely welcoming and helpful with different plants and options. I walked out with a beautiful plant for my office table and gorgeous little succulent for my desk (both with very nice planters). I also appreciated the watering tips.

I bought a bunch of plants here, and they’re all very healthy and doing well! The shop is adorable, has a large variety of both leafy plants and some succulents/cacti, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly as well! I’ll be coming back for more plants in the future :)

Small shop with extremely helpful and friendly staff who will help you find what you need and let you know how to care for it. Sell a variety of succulents and plants as well as pots, soil, and other related stuff. Scented candles as well. Great service.

I placed a large order online with the Zen Succulent as a set of staff gifts for my workplace. Not only were the succulents beautiful, but Megan worked with my timeframe as I needed the order sooner than it was originally scheduled to be delivered. Excellent customer service and quality product! Will definitely shop here again!

I was excited to make a visit here on my day off. Sadly, after parking and paying for the time. Turns out the store is not open on a Wednesday at 12pm as it states on their website and google. Ive even waited 10min after opening hours and tried again but no luck. Calling didnt work also.

I guess the pandemic has been good for them because the shelves were pretty bare! I was pleasantly surprised with the affordable prices but not impressed with the small selection. Customer service was good and the employee was wearing her mask appropriately, I was the only customer at the time so it felt safe.

A tucked away spot downtown. Picked up a nice addition to my desk. Another will make a great gift. Plants were healthy and staff was helpful

I recently ordered a gift certificate as a birthday present to my friend from The Zen Succulent. My friend never got it in the mail. I emailed the shop and they responded promptly. They apologized (even though I know its not their fault) and they told me theyre sending out another gift card. They said if both certificates arrive that my friend can use both or give one away to spread holiday cheer. They are so sweet! I definitely recommend The Zen Succulent just based off their amazing customer service. Hopefully some day I can actually visit their shop in person!

Overpriced, etoilated plants here. At least they had free plastic pots.

This store was more than just a store, it was an experience. From the aesthetics, customer service, safety (#SocialDistanceSZN), and the array and diversity of plants to purchase... I couldnt recommend this store more highly. I left with a coral cactus -- Eurphorbia Lactea Crest, specifically, for all my #SucculentGang heads out there -- and I couldnt be happier! Fairly priced, beautifully grown and tended to, I look forward to giving it the happiest of homes and cant wait to re-visit ZEN Succulent as my plant family continues to grow. HIGHLY recommended The ZEN Succulent for all your succulent needs!

I love this store! I’ve been in here several times and every time the employees are extremely kind and knowledgable. I finally bought a succulent today and I couldn’t be happier. Margaret went out of her way to tell me how to properly take care of it.

I had two plants delivered to my door — one snake plant and one little fittonia. Theyre full and in great condition! Highly recommend :)

I heard amazing thins about Zen Succulent. However, when I went to their Durham store I was very disappointed. Their social media is ON POINT! When I went into the shop, the girl never spoke to me. She didnt even ask what my friend and I were looking for. I was very surprised. It is a tiny store. A hello can go a long ways.

Very cute store with lots of plant-themed gift items and items for plant care. However, I would say there wasnt as many plants as I was hoping thered be. To be fair, the store is fairly small and they do a good job of optimizing their space and still offering a good selection of plants. Definitely worth a visit!

Visited for the first time since the relocation, and it was a really sad trip. It looked like any succulent that’s been there more than a couple of weeks was about to fall apart. There’s a “succulent wall” of plants coming out at an angle, with minimal natural light and no grow lighting that I could see; most were leggy, dried out, and depressing. If you’re trying to guilt people into buying just so they can save the plants that you’re abusing, it almost worked.I’m not sure if your employees are aware that these little plants are living things, and they need some care in order to remain living. It takes weeks of neglect for these kinds of plants to look as miserable as they did. I know that succulents are really trendy right now and that they’re fundamentally decorative, but they are little bits of life and they deserve to be cared for.

I absolutely love this place. Ive purchased four different plants from here and each has been extremely healthy and gorgeous. Staff is super knowledgeable and kind and they have a large selection of plants. Highly recommend stopping in here!

Went in today looking for a gift and the woman working was SO helpful! She helped me pick a great house plant, potted it for me and even wrapped it up. Highly recommend for a gift or even for yourself! Ill certainly be back!

The store is pretty small and was a bit crowded when I went. The so called succulent wall didnt have a single succulent left and most of the plants they sold were dying.

Definitely check this place out. Kind and knowledgeable service. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely be back for more air plants. Thank you for being kind.

The folks at the Durham store are so lovely-helpful, patient, and kind. The customer service when I had cracked the glass on one of my terrariums was amazing. I can’t wait to visit again.

First off, this business is owned by women of color so I automatically love supporting their business. I also just love the positivity that radiates from the store and the employees here. They carry a large assortment of plants, pots, cute decorations, candles, and more. It’s a wonderful place to shop!

Honestly deserves one star lol, the succulents are over priced, all the same, and on the website it advertised that you can come in and build your own terrarium so my wife and I were going to do that for our Christmas presents to each other and well they don’t allow that anymore, but I am however allowed to touch whatever I want in the store just not the terrarium bar, so we left and just went to the state farmers market instead and bought plants there to keep it local and found terrariums at thrift storesDon’t waste your time

Was looking for air plants for a last minute gift and they half them. Very cute and unique shop. A little pricey but if you want a unique gift, definitely stop by!

ZEN Succulent is a dream for plant lovers, and there are a lot of options. BUT it is expensive. If you’re willing to pay upscale prices, this is a great option. The plants are healthy, and they have beautiful planters as well as other great items (soaps, candles, etc.).

Had an awesome experience at the Zen Succulent earlier today! Megan was so helpful in helping us pick out plants for our home office, even checking to make sure they were all non-toxic for our pets. They have a cool selection of plants (and not just succulents). I highly recommend you check this place out!

I love to support local shops and was hoping that that they would offer reasonable florals and succulents only to find them to be extremely overpriced. A Venus fly trap in a plastic pot not decorative was $17. Lowes has similar ones for $5 that actually seemed a bit more healthy.

Stopped by in a rush and the uber helpful owner hooked me up! Needed 3 air plant terrariums and one succulent planter to stage a home out of town when a friends mother passed away. Things were difficult and she made this important part so much easier. After we got everything ready, she helped me pack things up so they would travel safely in my car and the bill was a fraction of the price had I tried to make this happen at a big box store.

Love the ZEN Succulent! Every time I go out to Durham I make it a point to stop in and see the great stuff they have. The staff is very knowledgeable and helped me pick out good plants for my home. Theres always something new from plants to pottery to gifts. Plus, if you buy a plant and a pot, theyll repot your plant for you! You can even make your own terrarium with their plants and containers.

The Zen Succulent is one of my favorite small businesses in Durham! Theyre always willing to answer my questions and help with potting any plants I buy. I cant wait to see their new space!

This place is my favorite place to get succulents in the triangle area. The shop owner is wonderful and super sweet, and theres everything you need for succulent care and design. I would recommend hands down!

This is such a cute little plant store. I have to stop myself because I want to buy all the plants every time I walk inside. Megan is awesome. Shes the owner and she can tell you just about everything about every plant in the store.I got a coral cactus from there and its still alive! Thats a first for me.

The selection is nowhere near what they show in the pictures. Their selection of unique succulents were maybe 4 small flats of the same kind you can buy at Walmart or home Depot (which honestly had way more and better looking ones). Shop seemed more focused on candles and room sprays than succulents. If youre looking for succulents just save yourself the disappointment and go to Walmart.

Im a plant lover and this store is a tiny slice of heaven. The selection is great, plants are well-cared for and in great condition, and the owner is extremely nice, knowledgeable and helpful. Amongst all the fine greenery, theres a terrarium bar, a beautiful variety of planters, pots, and local finds too. You dont have to know anything about plants when you walk in to leave there feeling confident with what you take home. If you buy a plant and a pot, they will pot it for you right there too.

Updated review: The new location so far is better. The plant selection and pricing was still not satisfactory but at least the plants were healthy. I will probably only shop here for gifts.Old review: Blatant robbery. There are other shops in Durham with healthier plants that are half the price. Trust me I am all for supporting local business when I can but your plants were nearly dead. I wish I had taken photos as proof. But, lets say I came on a bad week your selection was still very poor. If you are a plant novice then maybe this shop will be satisfying but ill be spending my hard earned money elsewhere. 1 star

Adorable store with great prices. We were exploring the city on a recent trip and I couldnt resist popping in. The only souvenir I got on the trip was actually from there... a small cactus ring holder, which is something I had been searching for!

I can’t say enough good things about my experience(s) at the Zen Succulent. My first time in, someone helped me find two unique plants that now have a prized spot in my home. On my second visit, someone helped me restore one of my plants to its former glory. They took their time repotting and fixing my plant. They also helped me find a beautiful monstera plant and did took their time settling it in a lovely pot. I love supporting this small local business and can’t wait to continue growing my plant collection with them.

Super cute and incredible staff all of my plant questions were answered and then some. Highly recommend for first time plant owners and long term plant lovers.

Ive bought a few plants from here. My most recent purchase was a beautiful satin pothos earlier this year. The store itself is lovely, bright, and clean and has a good selection of plants and accessories. Its a very welcoming place. I always prefer supporting small businesses and local shops over big chains like Lowes or Home Depot. On top of that, their plants are always in better condition than big chain stores, and you get access to knowledge that you wont get at those big stores either.I see people sometimes complaining about prices at shops like this compared to Walmart or Lowes, etc. That doesnt make much sense to me. As I said, youre getting better quality plants, more expertise and assistance, and youre supporting a part of the community. The prices arent unfair, and the feeling I get from those kind of reviews are that, well, those people are just being cheap and probably also dont fully understand what you want and need from a shop selling living things. Knowledge of plants and their care is a skill set, so please consider that before being upset that something seems expensive to you.

This place is a gem! The staff were super helpful as I picked my first plant. They have a great selection of plants and cute planters. They even potted the plants right there in the store. I will definitely be back for my next plant!

Beautiful space and lots of unique plants. However, I think its really overpriced. They were selling Pilea for $40.00, and I know you can get the same plant online, with a pot, for $20.00.That being said, if youre looking for beautiful planters or other plant accessories, this is the place to go.

This is a beautiful shop but very overpriced plants and accessories. You can get succulents at your local Walmart or Lowes. I do think it is very pretty and calming atmosphere.

When I went, most of the plants were badly neglected and they were far more expensive than they were worth.

Lots of succulents and items to store and care for them. Would love more air plant options. Gave 4/5 because shop was messy (plants toppled over, etc.) and the girl working there was on her cell phone the whole time and didn’t seem interested or engaged with customers. I’m excited to see the new location in Raleigh. Maybe a bigger store will help since this one is so small that it just feels cluttered and is hard to move around in.
