We visited the home in the summer of 2021 and would say its a must stop for anyone interested in American presidential history and the early years of Ronald Regan. Mike is a great tour guide by providing details of the Regan family in the 1920s and the visit by Regan in 1984. We also enjoyed our visit to the Rock River Park in Dixon.
This was cool to see. It was immaculate and the lawn well manicured. I’m not one for history but as I age, I appreciate it more. We can all learn something from everything...what I never want to do or be like, or a fun fact I didn’t know before. I am a Hypnotist so I understand that leaning is something our brain needs to constantly be doing.
Excellent staff who even kept the attention of our teenagers! The tour was highly informative and delivered in an entertaining style. I would certainly recommend this as a place to visit.
Wonderful piece of history. Our Tour Guide David did an amazing job! Definitely worth a visit, also very reasonable.
We were treated like family. The knowledge of both gentlemen who toured us was overwhelming. We now know President Ronald Regans life much better.
Broken glass all over the parking area aside,, Interesting life stories about the family, however, our tour guide could use some self control in curbing hateful and vulgar speech about Native Americans. Also, perhaps keep political commentary to himself. These unwanted outbursts ruined the visit for us. Could not wait to leave..Ronald mother would have been aghastRonalds
Jerry gave a wonderful tour!! Lots of information. He was very knowledgeable and took his time and made sure we had a nice time. Also was able to answer all questions. It was a fun tour
Brilliant presentation of the boyhood development and further growth into outstanding world leader, Ronald Reagan. The gentlemen presenting the story and tour were highly professional and knowledgeable! Vicariously living the live of this American hero at his early home is an amazing experience. All details along with the spirit of Reagan’s home are carefully preserved.
Spoke to a very pleasant docent ( Linda) about the grounds. Didnt take the formal tour but did our own abbreviated one which included the statue a few blocks away.
Amazing tour of President Reagan’s boyhood home. David had a lot to say about one of America’s favorite President. Worth the time to spend here if you are visiting Northern Illinois
Nice staff. Very informative. Daughter and I had a good time.
Loved it. Beautiful grounds too. Nice informative staff. Much better than his birthplace which was a dump.
Loved it. It was so wonderful to see the story of how President Reagan grew up. Very authentic.
The website says hours are until 4:00 pm. We were there before 3:00 and were told the tour was full and the door was locked in my face and a closed sign was put up. I had come fromTexas via Muscatine. I think the web site should say that the last tour was at 3:00 if it is. At the Hoover Museum you can sign up for a time so you will not be turned away. I think that would be a better plan. We went to Reagan’s birth place first and the docent there was wonderful. However we left Dixon with a very bad impression. I told the person at Dixon that I had come fromTexas and he said we are more than full. Very disappointing experience. We will not recommend this site unless things change. Is there a gift shop? I don’t know because we weren’t allowed in the door🙁😩
I loved the house. Lived in the house in 1969.
We visited the home on July the 4th. The Staff were amazing. They were so knowledgeable and were able toIntersperse the tour with their vast knowledge of President Regan’s life and times in Dixon. The home is small And compact, but you really get a sense of living in small town America in Tegan’s time.
Very cool to see piece of history preserved and cherished.
The Reagan home is super cool. I hung out around there when I was a kid and used to go all the time. It’s a really neat glimpse into the past and a great learning experience for children and adults. Pat, the director, is an awesome guy and always keeps it tip top. It’s definitely worth checking out.
Nice little guided tour of the home with some hidden gems scattered throughout. Spent just shy of an hour looking around, worth the drive!
Wonderful visit. Not just a home, but in addition learn lots about forming Ronald Reagan.
Very knowledgeable tour guide who grew up in Dixon,IL.
Well worth the trip to this sleepy small town. Loved every minute of our visit. Very informative docent and they even were very patient with our two-year old Mary. Wish more historic locations were this well organized and taken care of. Happy to see President Reagan visited and helped with the house. Keep up the great work!
The guides were amazing with wonderful information and stories about Ronald Reagan!
Great tour. Tour guide shared alot of info about Ronald Reagan.
Great tour guides with lots of interesting facts.
Wasnt open definitely will go back
Great place to visit. There was an awesome tour guide who was really helpful and good at answering questions. Definitely worth the trip, this was a very memorable visit for me!
Good place to take a dump!
Very nice site. The staff were knowledgable and courteous. The tour is just the right length in time. The house was interesting and the guide related some personal stores about President Reagans childhood. The gift shop is decent, if they dont have it in stock, they can order. All in all a nice historic site to see if youre in the area. If you want to eat, try Galena Steakhouse!
Great tour.
Historical, nice tour
Very nice for our president!!
Very interesting but unfortunately it was closed so we could only walk around the outside.
All together, a well done site!Video of his visit to Dixon (while President of USA) is playing in the visitor center, and photos and video of being in the house.Knowledgeable staff (good secret service stories from Reagan visit), clean, spacious bathrooms behind visitor center, a small parking lot behind the boyhood home. Well kept grounds. Good gift store. Keep your admission ticket as a souvenir!Good story of him reading a book of having an alcoholic father that helped him realize his own Fathers alcoholism did not have to hold him back from achieving his dreams.
Amazing!
Absolutely amazing place to visit. A true American hero. If youre within 50 or even 100 miles from here I recommend you take that detour and get here. Now the place is quaint, not alot of room, but definitely worth visiting.
The squirrel owns this place.
Sad it is only open for tours during the summer months, but completely understand that is the best way to keep the site clean from snow & salt.
Visited this summer, beyond amazing experience! I highly recommend it. I hope it stays in IL and stays open to the public for educational purposes forever! History addict.....
We stopped today on a whim, we had stopped at another place and it was closed so we headed to Dixon. When we arrived we caught the last tour of the day! They were very patient with us as the rest of our party visited the facilities and joined us! We went through the tour learned several things we had not known about Reagan! The gift shop was closed when the tour was over and Jerry our guide opened it up so we could purchase s few items and also started the movie that we had missed! Very friendly and an enjoyable stop! Thank you Jerry for accommodating all of us today! We will highly recommend others to stop!
The Ronald Reagan Boyhood home is an amazing place to visit. The visitors center is jammed packed with history for both the young and old at heart. The grounds and house are in immaculate shape and the staff was pleasant and helpful throughout the visit. I highly recommend detouring off I88 and stopping in Dixon to learn more about one of our most popular Presidents.
The kids went on a field trip here with their homeschool group and it was a wonderful experience. It was a perfect day for the trip which made it even better. Very helpful, informative staff, and we spend a decent amount at the store. I recommend this place to everyone, especially school/homeschool groups. Parents will enjoy it too, so if not in a small group, it may be better to go as a family. Any individual would enjoy this visit as well of course, I mainly mention the groups because of the educational nature of this place. But this is a must for everyone in the area in my opinion, regardless of party affiliation. Its not a political place at all, so dont worry about that, just history.
I would like to say it was a privilege and pleasure going there and very well preserved house, the Executive director Patrick Gorman told me and my family some fascinating stories about Ronald Reagan and the gorgeous town of Dixon. A wonderful experience!
Awesome experience and a great way to learn about our 40th president!
Fantastic tour!!!! Beautifully restored home and such informative guides. The guides are genuinely passionate about sharing their knowledge of the Reagan family.
I drove all the way from New York to see Ronald Reagans house and I was turned down by the lady in the visitor center. She told me I could pay $8 and just watch a video but I could not tour the house. Meanwhile I took a stroll over next to the house and it was full of people touring inside the house. I dont understand. Go figure? I felt I was shunned and treated poorly and Im going to tell everybody about this situation. If anybody ever asks me about Ronald Reagans boyhood home in Dixon Illinois I will tell them how rude and terrible I was treated by the woman working inside the visitor center this day. I shall never return!
The $8 tour consists of a 20 min video and a 12 min tour of the Reagans modest home. Velour roped off sections everywhere limiting your options to fully admire and interact with objects. Tour discounts offered to military and government personnel, bringing cost down to $5 - Woohoo!
The web site states it opens at 1 pm on Sunday. We went there and president Reagan house was closed. I called the number on the website twice and left a message. We drove 2 hours for nothing. Please update your website so people don’t drive there for nothing.
Knowledgeable guides...a great mix of history and humor. A wonderful experience!
This is one of those places with a touching history. You are standing on the ground where President Reagan was walking for a years. You can just imagine and feel how it is when a boy from small town became a president of United States. A place a must stop by when in area.
The gift shop and pre-tour movie are excellent. The grounds are well kept. The house tour will give you a sense of the town, and people who helped shape President Reagans convictions and his personable way with people.
Everyone was helpful, friendly and informative. They knew their subject and answered many questions. Interesting life story of the President. The town was interesting to walk through.
Dixon is a small town with lots of charm. Excellent rehab of the Presidents boyhood home. Worth the trip for both Democrats, Independents and Republicans. Trust but Verify. ..
I liked it, if you visit Dixon, IL its there so just stop and visit.
Great place to visit and learn about Reagan. About 100 miles west of Chicago but well worth the trip. Nice little house with a tour. Plus you get to see Bessy in the garage.
Pros: This is a very neat place I stumbled upon as a destination during a Route 2 motorcycle ride. Its a simple home which offers a decent prospective of one of President Reagans homes. Provides a glimpse of what it may have been like during his childhood.Cons: The location is not well staffed (understandably) so one must be patient if youre looking to have a guides input. Also, many of the items on site are replicas and not the originals.Overall: The home is pretty well maintained and you can spend an hour or two looking the place over. Its worth a stopover, but maybe not a main destination.
I am from Dixon but dont live here anymore. It was so nice to go thru his boyhood home. I found it very interesting.
Wonderful staff who clearly have an interest in honoring the Reagan family.
Looks nice. Was closed despite hours posted saying that it should be open.
Good way to learn about Reagans childhood whether you are a fan or not.
Love Ronnie. Fun to see where people grew up.
A must for Reagan fans who follow up on his childhood stories and life. I was surprised that he only spent a few years in Dixon, but it was enough for him to call it his hometown. There is a tour guide house to the right for souvenirs and purchasing tour tickets. The hours are 10 to 4pm so plan accordingly.
Extremely educational and will make you feel proud to have visited a President who came from a humble background.
Was awesome to see where Dutch grew up.
Enjoyed myself here. learned things no one could from a textbook.
The 1920s-era garden is looking very sad...
Great small town charm which you can feel why President Reagan has such an all American charm behind him.
Very nice place to stop by and learn about Ronald Reagan. The thing is just for a small tour around its quite pricey😐
Great little gem. Worth the tour to learn what life was like for young President Reagan
Well put together and very knowledgeable guides. Definitely worth the visit.
The docents are terrific! Very knowledgeable!
Great tour!! Knowledgeable people doing tour!! Well worth the time!!
Its cool knowing where a historical figure grew up
Quick easy tours. Small gift shop. But the staff knows their history!
Very informative. We didnt have time for tour, but was told it was really good.
The people were really nice and it was an interesting tour!
Took someone there to see it would like to go there sometime and see it.
Every Republican should visit at least once. Every Democrat should visit weekly until they understand their errors.
We went on tour and really enjoyed.
Charming tour and informative video. Worth the visit if in the area.
If you are interested in visiting presidential history musems, this is a must stop.
Magic place. Definitely place to visit
I expected more. It was utterly underwhelming. The town of Dixon was a sad example of the forgotten rural communities destroyed by the economic policies that little boy supported.
Very friendly and informative guide and visiters center attendant.
Find the 2/$8 coupon. Guided tour. Brief movie. Historical to 1930s
