Great place! Clean and friendly

They changed the layout a little, now it is more open and easy to access. They do not carry cats or dog. They do have birds, rodents, fish, some other animals. They carry a wide selection of foods, and toys for pets and exotic animals. It is in a convenient location, and the staff is very friendly and helpful in helping you decide what to get. Plus, if you have a large item you can pull your car right up to the door for easy transport.

If this lady below me knew ANYTHING about rats or male rats for that matter...she’d be aware that when male rats feel threatened they push their testicles as well as a bunch of fat into their scrotum. When they are very comfortable with their surroundings they can actually suck them into their abdomen body so it appears they are not there. Very common mistake when purchasing a rat. I have several rats and have had several rats for years I know all that there is to know about rats I personally think this particular shop always has a good selection and well taken care of fancy rats.

Really only pretty store around. The staff is great as long as you get the right staff working that day. Ive noticed that some days you go Im the staff happy to help out. The week of you need anything, you need and other times Ive been in there and some of the staff ignored the fact I was there my little oneThe language one of the ladies

Travelled yesterday to the Derby store from Woodbury because when I called and clearly stated that I was looking for two female pet rats for my son (9) I was told they had plenty. Got there and found a girl to help, she took one female out and let my son hold her and all was good. She then had him pick a second “female” but seemed to rush this one into the box which I thought was odd, but trusted her since she works there and said herself that we were looking for TWO FEMALES. Get home and the second one, that she rushed into the box, is very clearly a male. So we now have a male and female, unfixed, with my son already attached. Thank you so much for causing stress and frustration as we now have to separate them until we can get the male neutered. This was more than a mistake, this was purposefully hidden from us. Oh, and my husband is a veterinarian (which I told her), so I’m not sure why she thought she would be able to pull one over on us. Very, very irresponsible. Plus they’re all piled into one tank so who knows how many have already mated. So disappointing.

Absolutely love this store! They are so helpful and really care about our pets. I am so sad that they are closing all their locations in March...😥

I always try local store to find a bargain..but they are closing the store. I think the whole chain is closing. Didnt have the item I needed. People are friendly and helpful.

Used be a good decent store. STINKS NOW! No really smells,,,it’s awful just looks sloppy now a girl always sitting on her phone doesn’t get up unless to cash out,,,I’ll travel to another pet store from now on

JUST FOUND A DEAD BABY LIONHEAD RABBIT in a cage that had obviously been there a while. The staff are liars and when I walked in all three of them were in the front on their phones and eating food. They have lied to me about the care if their rabbits on several occasions. They DO NOT provide them with any hay and as an avid bunny lover, owner and rescuer, I can say that that is absolutely unacceptable! I was told that they had eaten it all today which is a lie because there was not one strand of hay leftover which is literally impossible. Last time I was told it was cage cleaning time. After returning later there was still NO hay. PLEASE SHUT THEM DOWN !!!#adoptdontshop#notjust4easter#everybunnycounts

Normally they are great but some days they really dont want to help you.(I have only gone there for fish)

Selection is limited but everyone is cordial & always eager to help.

I wish i could give less stars... Check the food i found a bag that expired over a year ago.. I returned to the store a day later and the bag of food was back on the shelf... Close this location or get it together..

I have been going to this per store for about 10 years now. While they were never great if you have exotic snakes, fish, etc, because they never had the staff with the knowledge for the serious herp or fish keeper, they were OK as far as picking up a couple frozen rats, or if you needed some medicine or basic cat food. They have a very good selection of food and dry goods at your regular strip mall / chain store prices. Well about two years ago they let go or fired the manager there. Now the place is run by 16 year olds. They are all up front talking to friends when I come in and NO ONE has any clue about pet care etc... If you want crickets or something from the back you have to literally pull someone away from texting and giggling up front.My advice to Petland. Fire EVERYONE from this location in Derby CT and hire some adults. Seriously, the place is a mess.

They don’t honor there policy when animals or the fish die with in 48 hours. I bought a few fish there they died the next day I brought them back and the store manager said there’s nothing they can do about it and no refunds or exchanges. I’ve been going there for years and it’s a disappointment

Love this place people are friendly and knowledgeable

I just bought ick medicine and opened the box and the seal was taken off and put back on. Medicine was dripped all over the bottle.

I think my favorite part about going into this store would have to be the short blonde girl with glasses ALWAYS has a smile on her face
