Amazing food!! The tamales hit the spot every time. Their burritos are awesome as well. There’s even a ton of delicious options if you have a sweet tooth to fill. The fruit empanadas were delicious.
It probably depends on what you order. the baked goods looked great and Ive heard the breakfast burritos are tasty.but the tamales were meh ( heavy and dense with mushy dry filling that had more of a tex-mex seasoning/flavor as opposed to authentic Mexican).Corn tortillas were also disappointing, had an odd smell and were like cardboard. On the plus side, prices are good and service was quick.
I have been buying my masa from this place since the 60s! Always good service and great products! Dan and his staff R great!
The burrito was small for the price. The carne asada was also burnt. Definitely not worth the money and will not recommend or order from here again.
Seriously some of the best tamales in the area! Very nice staff and owner and a great experience overall.
Thank you AnthonyYou have the best tamales and salsa too
I was so disappointed! The texture and taste of the masa was great but the filling was like soggy minced meat, both red and green. The flavor was good, but the texture was gross. My kid thought they filled the tamales with retried beans. Now the baked goods and salsa 👍🏼👍🏼
Great quick breakfast burritos
Thanks for having me publicly company nice plane for have flying over
I dont eat pork but had to indulge in a tamale. My step Dad loved this place. RIP Dad. Had one for you.
Best tamales in town. Order by the dozen.
Looking for the best tamales in Denver area, this place recommended by a friend.Keep going back because imho the have the best TAMALES, Red and Green chili!!
Friendly, clean and awesome food at a relatively fast service
First time buying these delicious tamales for a party ppl was telling me where did I get them and I told them. Thank you for your worker did a great job...😍😍😍
Tamales have gotten very average. Not what they used to be. Masa is too dry, meat is bland, and skimpy. Too bad, they used to be alot better. Other food not bad, good Panadaria style pastries
There is no better experience than eating one of their smothered burritos with a spoon.
Great prices, bomb food and friendly staff
Ive been coming here for years, but recently the quality has really dropped. I got my favorite food item, the tamales. Out of the first four tamales, there was literally one piece of meat in one of the tamales, and zero in the others. The rest was broken up masa with some chili sauce.
Love the tamales love the empandas
Always has hot fresh tamales.
Had 2 tamales and a smothered beef burrito. They were delicious and tasted very authentic. Really good prices but no seating room.
Great prices, fast friendly service. Pretty good food too. Their bakery selection looked awesome! Wish I had had the room to try some.
This was on 01/23/2020 I called in order for 1 dozen of Green Chili tamales, and a pint of Green Chili. Gentleman took my order. When I got there, I explained my order to lady. The gentleman who took my order over the phone spoke to me. I told lady 3 times I wanted green chili tamales. When I got home I ate tamale, furiously discovered she gave me red chili. I was too mad to call them. My family loves La Popular, and the next time I go I hope my order will be correct. My bill came to $26.61 (tip includes), only to get my order wrong.
#1STAY OPEN, HAVE a Blessed day always.
The tamales are well made in texture and flavor, good job!
Breakfast burritos, salsa, tamales, cinnamon cookies. So good. The people are always super nice too. Check them out.
Love the tamales to go! The green are a family favorite.
You can never go wrong with their smothered burritos. I almost cried when i tried their empanadas, theyre the best Ive had in a long time!
This is truly the hidden gem of LoDo. Only open during the day but man their breakfast burritos are the best I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t even like breakfast burritos. Great and cheap Mexican food. I used to live around the corner and would go all the time. I’ve had friends visit from all over and when they try the breakfast burritos they are stunned. 10/10
The tamales are always so fresh and delicious! The Concha pastry is also tasty!
Food is always good. Family service makes it well worth it
Ive been coming here since I moved to Colorado. Burritos are great and they have the best tamales Ive found in Colorado. You absolutely need to grab a thing of salsa to go with your order. The staff is great and very polite. I love this place!
Excellent Service Menu is awesome from Burritos -Tacos to Enchiladas and more. Great Tamales and Tortillas made daily Only place in Colorado where the corn is Stone Ground, tortillas and chips.. Take out available only Great for on the go ! Nice thing is you can email or call your order in. Dan is the Man 👌 Established in 1947 the one and only. La Popular
I will not shop here again on principle. As I was picking up some food for myself I saw a persons food stamps turned away. Walking out and talking I eventually asked if she would like a breakfast burrito. In I went to go grab 2. The owner turned to me and asked me to be honest, are you buying this for her? To which I replied honestly yes..(why lie?). He said he wouldnt sell them to me for fear of a line of beggars. I walked out with her refused service. It is a sad thing to see fear take over people instead of step into situations. The b-fast burritos are okay and I have not tried the tamales, but I will not try them anytime soon.
I ordered (called in the afternoon before) almost 20 breakfast burritos for the office Breakfast Club. They were ready on time, and they were hot, fresh, and delicious!
AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD!DONT BE MISTAKEN, IT THE REAL DEAL!
Purchased 1/2 dozen tamales and they look and taste days old. The chili on my bean burrito was good. I think I was an unwanted customer due to body language and facial expression. I guess Im the wrong color for them. Have to throw away the tamales. A waste of my money. Only picked one star so I could leave review.
Best tamales ever and way cheaper by the dozen than pretty much anywhere else! The smothered breakfast burritos are delicious and reasonably priced as well $6.75. I am a breakfast burrito connoisseur, I have eaten at just about every place in Denver that serves breakfast burritos. What I was really surprised at is how good their green chili is, most places dont know how to make a good green chili but here the green chili is amazing!
Best tamales ever!! If you can get there, try them! Best in the city. No lie
Family run, in house cooking from scratch. A MUST DO FOR EVERYONE.
La Popular though not as popular as you would expect, has some of the best green chili in Denver. Everything is house made from the tortillas to the tamales, and you cant go wrong with just about anything on the menu. They also have a an AMAZING breakfast burrito. I think its even better than Santiagos.
Our company placed a large order of tamales for a fundraiser. They were hot (temp.) and ready right on time, but most notably, they were delicious! Very seamless and easy working with their staff. Highly recommend this place!
I had never tried their food before, but I just ordered 10 dozen mixed tamales, 10 pints of beans, and 10 pints of rice for a celebration at my office. WHY HAVE I NEVER BEEN HERE BEFORE!? The people at La Popular are all so friendly and helpful (which in my opinion always makes the food taste even better), and the tamales were amazing. I am a little nervous that theyre so close to my work, because I have a feeling that Ill be eating here way too often now. I am actually waiting for everyone to get through the buffet line so I can go back for seconds.....okay, fine, you caught me -- thirds.
I came here and was ready to order enchiladas. I asked if they had red sauce or red chili, and was told by the employee that the enchiladas only come with green sauce. I asked her do you not have red sauce at all? She told me that they do but that they only put it on the tamales. I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants in my life and I have never once been told that I cannot have enchiladas with red sauce at a place that has it. It is a bizarre policy to say the least and one that makes it unlikely that I will patronize this establishment again. Prices also seemed high compared to other bakeries and Mexican restaurants in Denver.
Best tamales ever! Affordable and friendly. Brownies are fire!
I work about a block away from La Popular and usually grab 1-2 breakfast burritos whenever I stop by. The breakfast burritos usually range from around $3.5-5 depending on whether you like it smothered. Otherwise their lunch items range from $4-10. If youre looking for a quick bite to eat in the LoDo area and want minimal fuss, this is your place. They even have their own salsas, tortillas, and sweets available for purchase as well!
Delicious tamales, great price, and you can order over the phone and pick up curbside if you like. Tip: get it in the morning.
Get it to go. Been there as long as Ive been alive. Old school. I had the tamales. They were good.
Great food, Great people, Period. Tamales heaven. Red over green for me but both are great.
I always stop in when Im downtown really good breakfast burritos some of the best brownies I have ever had
Best place to get prepared and non prepared masa for tamales.
Got 2 dozen green tamales the morning of Christmas Eve and I was in and out in less than 3 minutes. Tamales are great quality and really tasty. I think some of the best in Denver. Great people and service too.
Best tamales in town.Great service and great pastries.Disregard the haters. This place rocks.
My family has been going to La Popular since they were on Curtis. The BEST tamales, bar none. Hands down. All that jive. Go here for tamales and cinnamon cookies. And pumpkin empanadas. And burritos. Just go here!
Change of heart it taste great but now I am paying for it big time went to take a nap and woke up having worst stomachache and having to use the restroom now. Great taste but not worth the stomach issues I am having. I am highly more sensitive to food and the reason why I am scared to even try new places since I am about ready to deliver next week. I wont be eating here again
I didnt want to believe some reviews about not enough meat in the tamales. Unfortunately, it is true. We went yesterday, and while the flavor is okay, some of the tamales didnt have meat at all. Friendly service, but the quality of the tamales are no good.
Yummy as always
Only been going here for 30 years. Never a problem with the tamales. Only issue is deciding between red or green. I always buy some baked goods. Ginger pigs are my kids favorites (need milk). Oh, and the flour tortillas rock.
Highly recommend. Delicious and authentic Mexican pastries, tortillas, salsa, and tamales. The ownership is fantastic as well. I’ll be back!
Best tamales in Denver. Danny has been the tamale guy in Denver for as long as I can remember. Before him it was his parents, Mr and Mrs DelaTorre..
Its just good foid💞
Flour tortillas are not Mexican, the tamales in the Masa are good but not the filling in them is not good!
This place rocks out the BEST tamales I have had in The Metro. So delicious, hot and Fresh! #10stars
Very good food and prices. And awesome staff. They have tamales, burritos and more.
Been going there sense it was on other block on Larimer. Excellent food. Wonderful people that work there. Ten thumbs up with the stars. Ppl have to go there. Once youve tried you will always go back.
5 stars for the tamales! They come in sets of 6...we got 12 red and 6 green. Best tamales Ive had!
Walked by one night, saw my two favorite words... breakfast burrito..... so good! I’ve told all my friends!
Best breakfast burritos in the state. Hands down. I dont know what kind of chorizo they use, but it adds a certain special flavor to them. Son muy delicioso!!!!
I was sold a very old brownie it was hard and he had the nerve to say he just made them that day haha. I dont like liars when it comes to my food. Tamales sux. Curtis Park Creamery has better!!
Tamales are bad and dry! They don’t taste good and don’t look good either. They look like they don’t even have pork inside just a bunch of beans. Never buying tamales fr this place again.
The tamales are amazing! I also had a beef burrito which was good but should have just gotten several tamales because theyre that good.
Cant beat this authentic, affordable, and delicious establishment. A staple downtown that you need to visit. Get either tamales or breakfast burritos or the loads of different desserts they have right when you walk in!
This place is a joke! Tamales are full of mush, tortillas are hard and dry. The price you pay to find out that it is all nasty is a joke! Never again!
Tamales to die for
Best burritos in town and I have been to over 20 Mexican restaurants in and around town. The manager is a great guy.
Amazing staff thank you again
The absolute best Mexican food in town. The menu is limited and its all carry out but you must try it.
I called and asked if they sold homemade flour tortillas so i could give an true authentic experience for my students, and I stopped buy early and they sell story bout tortillas then when I go to buy them any way the card machine was broke, so unprofessional!!!! It’s a waist of my time as a customer!
Good tamales. I ordered tamales for an event I hosted and everyone was happy.
Being from Chicago, its been difficult to find a place that has what I consider good tamales and masa. This place is the best Ive had out here in CO! Friendly staff!
Cant go wrong with the tamale and burrito combo.
Best tamales in town have been going here forever. My family is now up to 4 generations that have shopped here love the sprinkle cookies too
My family has always gone here and the tamales are great! Try the pumpkin empanadas if you can, theyre very tasty.
An absolute gem hidden near Coors Field. My personal favorite burrito in Denver. Plus, friendly staff. Bonus!
Was super excited to get in here & check it out, try some things as Im new to the neighborhood & seen all the great reviews. What am I missing here? Was it just a bad day?I got one of each tamale to try, green was good, Ill give them that, red was disappointing- the meat was a grainy texture. I got a pack of supposedly fresh corn tortillas? Got home made tacos super stoked, then sadly😞 disappointed! They were thin, rubbery, chewy, & heated up they just became hard like a tostada shell without oil...like WTF ? It was like a first time attempt that didnt go well. Good if your making your own corn chips I guess?🤷 Also all the breads I was expecting to be yummmm but were ALL basic, almost like a mass chain produced & not baked there?... Mehhhh was disappointed it wont be my go to store like I was hoping for, Ill stick to my panderia over in Commerce City.
Tamales are terrible. Dry, look old and don’t even know what’s inside them. To each their own, but far from authentic.
Very Delicious, Authentic Mexicsn Food for Take Out . Great Value in Food Pricing . Polite, Amicable Staff . Dont miss this one !
Little hole in the wall place... good burritos... good selection of Mexican sweet bread...
Best breakfast burritos in Denver and it aint even close. I get four breakfast burritos every Saturday and have done so for the past few months. I might have a problem but I dont care cuz I love food. I always come back.
What a great find! Growing up on tamales handmade by family down in Pueblo, we were in a bind to find some closer to us. The young staff were super friendly, giving us a free tamale, sone chips and green chile to sample. Thats why we ordered from them! We also had some breakfast burritos/not smothered. Great taste. On our list for a regular supplier for sure!
Great tamales
Such good tamales and baked goods. A real Denver classic.
Green Chile Tamales are so good. We always get a dozen at least every two weeks.
I went in ordered a breakfast burrito omg so good and fast service. To go only no restroom tho. Jaja
Always stop in here when I come to town. Gingerbread pigs and the tamales are excellent.
Delicious tamales. The greens are yummy hot!
