How did I end up here, at this True Value store? It is off my usually well-worn and rather beaten path. Oh, I remember! I was nearby, at City Floral, and I needed something for my garden that they didnt have. True Value was close, and they did have what I was looking for. Now, I tend to go to them for all my plant- and yard-related purchases. The entire store is quite a marvel, however, for it is well-stocked, with lots of useful stuff, and some unexpected and fun odds and ends. Its an interesting place, then, for browsing. The members of the staff have always been friendly and helpful. Theres a bicycle shop inside, too.

Ive been coming here for 20 years and most of the employees are wonderful, but every time I go in lately the older female with dark hair and now a wrist brace is so rude. If she is there the next time I walk in I wont hesitate to turn around and walk right out. Her attitude is not worth my time.

I highly recommend going to True Value Hardware on Colfax. The have a great inventory of different tools, house hold items, and their customer service is great! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They have a glass & screen replacement service, as well as a wood cutting service in the back of the store too. Theyve helped me with numerous projects and are very cost-effective. For a few glass projects, Ive told them what sizes I needed & for what purpose. They made recommendations about what type of glass I should get (tempered vs. regular, and what thickness). If its tempered, theyll order the custom size for you and you can pick it up in ~1week. If its regular, they will cut it in-store and you can pick it up same-day. For my wood projects, Ive bought wood there or brought-in my own wood, told them the sized I needed, and theyve cut it for me.Their prices are usually lower than most hardware stores. I highly recommend True Value Hardware on Colfax!P.S. I included pictures of a project they helped me with! I took two old wood doors and installed replacement glass inserts into each door. Unfortunately, the glass inserts were too narrow and so I had to have wood filler pieces cut to fill-in any gaps. The project required very small and particular cuts of wood. The shop had the right tools and knowledge to help me get the project done! Thank you!

Very nice local hardware store - walking distance from Park Hill and Mayfair. Good selection of small products. There is a bike shop upstairs to get parts and service for two-wheelers! The person in the back by the key machine is super helpful.Management might consider training some of the young help - they mean well but are not very helpful ;-)

So weve been going here for 20+ years and I have to say, I enjoy the neighborhood hardware store experience. I know True Value is a national chain, but something is different here than at the big box stores like Ace down the street. A quick example: I stopped in today looking for a very specific electrical cord which I knew they probably wouldnt have. They didnt, however, the gentleman at the front said he thought he might have one upstairs. He left, found the cord and it fit. Then he didnt even charge me anything. I have to say, that is just good old fashioned customer service. Thanks guys! Keep up the good work! We will certainly be back!!!

Please ensure your employees wear masks. Helped by a guy this morning, no mask and I felt like he wanted me to ask about it. I asked the girl at register if they were required to wear masks she said yes. I pointed out the guy in the back. No response. Cmon TV, you’re better than this.

This is a slow paced store with a bicycle shop in the back. They have a wide assortment of wares from kitchen to wood finishing, and from minor car care to loose bolts and nuts and chain by the foot. Most staff will stay out of your way unless you ask for help but theyre friendly. The bicycle shop is sometimes helpful and sometimes not.

2 years + ago this store was great. As a fairly frequent visitor, they always seemed to have what I needed and the service was on point. However, I’ve been in about 10 times in the last couple of years and seemingly each time recently, with one exception, I’ve had a poor experience - entirely due to service or lack thereof. With out going into the details of each experience, of late the staff has been blatantly rude and largely inattentive. The attitude of the employees, new and old, is not good. I wonder if this is a reflection of a change in management/ownership. There must also be a lot of theft going on too. There’s definitely a suspicious, even adversarial vibe from staff to customers lately. Whatever it is, it’s too bad. I’d recommend going to ACE on the Fax instead. They’ll take care of you - polite and knowledgeable every time. Come to think of it this might be my second bad poor review of this store.

Best hardware store in Denver. True Value is a true hardware store in Denver that has what you need and they are friendly and knowledgeable without being bothersome and following you around recommending things you dont need just to make a sale. I am 34 years old and had been living in Park Hill my entire life until a couple years ago and now i still drive from Virginia Vale area to come here. My entire family has shopped here for years and I thank god it never turned into an Ace Hardware.

You don’t have an appreciation for someone who knows their parts until you look around town and can’t find something and then within 15 seconds of walking into the store you’re not only educated on what parts you’re looking for but also provided with guidance and multiple selections. Bam!!! got the part, paid for it, 5 min later left the store and it’s a perfect fit. Excellent customer service and a very knowledgeable staff. I will be back in a heartbeat.

I had been missing a storm window in my condo that was built in the 80s. It was suggested that I contact either Ace or True Value hardware to see if they could fabricate one. I called Denver True Value, they said it could be done. I visited the store and brought another storm window as an example. After about a week I received a call that it was ready to pickup. The new storm window is installed and it fits perfectly. I highly recommend this store. I will definitely be going back as I require some minor repairs on my other storm windows. Also as a bonus it reminds me of the hardware store I used to love to visit in my hometown.

Once you get to know the quirky layout of this store, you can find anything. A lot of stuff at Home Depot is designed for suburbanites. (Plus you have to walk a half a mile to find what you want.) If you live in Park Hill, Mayfair, etc., this is the place to go for stuff that fits your older home. They have everything a good hardware store carries, plus a lot of household supplies you wouldnt expect to find in a hardware store. Theres always someone to help you out. This isnt the place to load up your truck with bricks and lumber, but anything else: support your local hardware store!

It breaks my heart to write this negative review. I have been a patron of this hardware store for years because they are conveniently located in my neighborhood and I believe in supporting local businesses. Ive bought everything from housewares, hardware, to having my knives sharpened there. But today will be my last visit to this store. The man with dark hair, ponytail, probably 30 something in age that works back in services was so unimaginably condescending to me when I had a question about where to place the wires in a simple light socket I had just purchased in the store. It was quite different from the one I was replacing. I was ignored from the start at the counter then was spoken to with his down as he worked on something. He seemed agitated that I needed help in the first place. He responded to my request in an exaggerated slow-paced word-for-word, mean-spirited tone as if he were talking to an idiot. Then immediately just walked away. I did nothing or said anything to provoke this person outside of asking him not to speak to me that way. I was just asking for advice. The date was 7/27/17 at 9:30a.m. I told the employees at check out how I was treated. They apologized for him but I dont think it was passed on to management or owners. Ill be changing my hardware store to the Ace in Congress park.

Ive shopped here many, many times for over 25 years, and it seems that I end up at True Value at least 3-4 times a month buying odds and ends to maintain our Park Hill Home. Until today, I have never been really disappointed in the service. It used to be that this business hired knowledgeable and pleasant staff. That day has long passed. The current employees are, by and large, unhelpful, and the short, older fellow working the rear of the shop is truly a curmudgen. I have never seen him treat a customer in a welcoming and helpful manner, and he treats anyone and everyone with impatience and contempt. Last week my wife dropped off a couple of screens to be repaired, and she noticed how abrupt and unfriendly “the curmudgen” was to her.Today I asked to use the restroom while I was shopping, and was told by an employee that they are “for employees only.” This is not a COVID related change to their business, but simply a refusal to provide basic service to their customers. The employee was not a teenager, but a grown man who should know better. Dear True Value owners: customers patronizing businesses that serve the public expect that you will have clean, accessible restrooms and employees who are pleasant! I left without buying anything, and spent over $350 at the Ace Hardware store approximately 5 blocks east on Colfax. The employees at Ace are far more pleasant and helpful, the selection is better, and yes, Ace has clean public restrooms for their customers. I will be shopping there from now on.
