10/10 I would definitely recommend this store. The proprietor is friendly and patient, and he does fantastic work. This is the first time Ive ever had a pair of shoes re-soled, and Im thrilled with the results. He even cleaned the canvas while he was at it. Plus, he did it at a substantially lower price than competitors had quoted me for the same job.
Im shocked by all of the positive ratings for this place. I took my Allen Edmonds ($350 dress shoes at a minimum) in to have the front sole and heel replaced. I paid $65 upfront. When I received the shoes back, I noticed that the black shoe polish (used to dress the sole of the shoes) had been carelessly applied to the tan leather of my shoes. When confronting the store owner about this, he tried to fix it but ended up making it worse by buffing the black polish used into the side of the shoe (see the pictures). The stitching inside my shoe was also poking through the heel. When he said he could no longer fix it, I demanded a refund due to ruining the leather on my shoes. The owner refused to refund my purchase and instead offered me $10 dollars back to make up for ruining my $350 dress shoes. I left the store due to the owner being unwilling to do anything else to remediate the issue. When I got home I tried them on to see if they were still wearable. To my surprise, the shoes were uneven in height (see photos). My right shoe sits at 1 1/32 inches at the heel while the left shoe sits below 1 inch high (see photos). One last problem I noticed was that my right shoe seems to fit a bit tighter, most likely from the stitching process. All of these issues have made my expensive dress shoes unwearable. I am now out $65 for repair and dont know if they are even fixable. Stay away if you would like your shoes handled with care and professionally crafted by someone who takes pride in the quality of their work.
My dog got a hold of my $200 hiking boots and destroyed the tongue and some inner webbing. After going to 3 shoe and boot repair stores in the Denver area and calling countless others I made my way to Phelps. Right away the gentleman working looked at my boot and assured me he could fix it. I was shocked as he was so confident when I had been told time and again they could not be repaired. It was my last resort so I agreed to pay $40 to have my boot repaired. Dropped the boot off on a Tuesday and picked it back up the following Friday. I was pleased with this turnaround as I needed the boots Friday afternoon. I was even more pleased when I arrived on Friday and saw the beautiful work he had done. My boot is actually better than it was before (I have the other one for reference). He replaced the foam padding, secured the webbing and created a new perfectly fitted leather tongue interior. Phelps did an excellent job. I would bring any shoe in any condition here before giving up.
Amazing quality and timeliness he made my work boots go from drab to brand new. Always coming here for all my shoe shine and repairs
What a disappointment. I should’ve known when they told me to use super glue on the other pair of shoes that I brought in, that this was not a good idea. These boots were in relatively good condition as you can see on the right hand side. The stitching has come out and needed to be reswewn together. The gentleman at the store said that it could be done no problem, although I fear there was a serious communication problem with the language barrier. The boot on the left you can see has had the leather gouged out of it and looks pretty terrible. They did in fact use super glue even though I told them not to. Anyone that knows about the Joan of Arctic wedge from Sorel, know that these are a $250 pair of boots. Covering them up with shoe polish to distract from destroying the leather was not ideal. I spent $15 to get these fixed and wasted a perfectly fine pair of shoes that should’ve been taken somewhere else.
If youre trying to fix a decent pairs shoes, please for your own sake, go somewhere else.I brought in a pair of Beckett Simonon sneakers to have a small stitch repaired. The shoe is now ruined. The stitching is terrible, theres now a stain on the inside that wasnt there before and the entire heel cup is stretched out to the point where my foot just slides out now.
Had a zipper replaced on a boot. Very affordable. Took a week and it looks and works great. No nonsense. He’ll be my go to from now on.
Great customer service, staff is super professional. My shoes look like brand new. I will recommend them to all my friends.
Shoes looked like new after repairing loose soles.
Outstanding, 5 stars all the way! I took in 2 pairs of boots, a vintage pair of Frys and a terrific high quality pair of cowboy boots. Full Soles. Great price, and done 2 days early! And the work? Carl has been doing this for 40 years and is a master. Absolutely flawless, and you deal with the owner here!!I cannot say enough. Why spend $75-100 dollars for a full prime sole? In addition, the boots come back cleaned and refreshed. Beautiful..........Boots, Sandals, Luggage, Purses? All done here. Top quality.
I will not go any where else- even though there shoe repair places much closer to. The workmanship is the best. The service very professional. I’m very glad I stumbled on this place.
Stopped at a competitors shoe repair shop on South Colorado Blvd and they said they couldnt do as I asked. Then went to see Eddie, the owner of Phelps, who listened and completed the shoe repair work while I waited. Quality workmanship at a reasonable coat. I will use them from now on.
Its great to find people who are true specialists. They did an excellent job and repaired a pair of my favorite dress shoes. They are now better than when I first bought them as the new heels they put on them are even higher quality.Ive looked around a bit, and there are not too many of these places left. I live downtown but am more than happy to make the drive.
This place is awesome! Fast service. New soles and heels have brought my old faves back to life. They offer a re-dye or re-wrap on high heels to combat the scuffs. My shoes/boots always look shiny and brand new upon pick up. Several purses are back in action thanks to Phelps sewing repairs. Also great is the re-gluing theyve done on my the soles of my tennis shoes, wedge boots, and platform sandals. Carl has even added matching rope to the heel of an espadrille sandal! Amazing work!
I greatly appreciate the workmanship and customer service.
I have been taking my shoes and purses to Phelps for years and am always amazed at what a great job they do! One time I almost threw my favorite purse away because I thought there was no hope for it, but decided to bring it in. Glad I did becuase I still have it. I will always go here as long as I live in Denver, even if I have to drive way out of my way. Thank you Phelps for your great work!
The super nice older gentleman really helped me out with a slightly off menu request. These guys are the best, and really have an air of old world excellence.
Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience when I dropped off a pair of boots to be repaired. My $50 orthotics were inside and were NOT delivered back to me. I would not recommend this place.
My leather boots were pretty battered from constant exposure to rain and snow, they were discolored and worn looking. I usually just replace my shoes but I really liked this pair and was hoping to bring some life to them. Phelps did an amazing job...they gave my lucky pair of boots a second chance!
I buy handmade shoes from a local brand called Freebird. Theyre beautifully made in traditional methods, but they fall apart. I needed a shoe cobbler that understood the beauty and original design of my boots, and Ive had bad experiences at other repair shops before. This place gets it, they listened to me about how I wanted to restore and preserve the distressed and textured style of my shoes, and they delivered. Save yourself the headache and just go here.
I left two pairs of new boots with Phelps, worth about $600 combined, to shorten the shafts, which they said they could do. I paid 50% up front. When I went to pick them up, I was shocked when I saw what theyd done. The shafts were mangled. Theres no other way to describe it. The Frye boots had also changed color -- they were taupe with a distressed finish when I dropped them off, and mahogany brown when I picked them up.Both are now in the dumpster. The man refunded what Id paid but had no intention of addressing the actual financial value of what hed destroyed. Im currently looking into the possibility of a small-claims lawsuit. (Which I guess means I should fish them out of the dumpster.)
They are the best in Colorado. They always repair my shoes and boots and I am always satisfied with the quality of their work. Highly recommended.
Great shop and excellent services.
Great price and quality work. These guys take their profession seriously and it matters to them what they deliver back to the client.
Rude. Took some of my favorite shoes in that need some help. They werent cheap shoes, all leather and could have been fixed. His exact words were, Theyre all garbage which he said over and over. I was shocked. Even if they were, what kind of business owner would tell their customer that. He could have said he didnt think they were worth fixing. But to tell someone that their stuff is garbage is pretty terrible. I guess he doesnt need the business.
Excellent Service. They are very kind and have affordable pricesYou can also find some unique handbags, belts, slippers and shoes accessories there!
Small operation shop with quality work. I expected to leave my boots and pick them up in a week but he repaired the heels while I waited and shined them up beautifully.
I have been taking shoes and purses to Phelps for years and always had great service. They always did a fabulous job. I just picked up a purse and while the zipper was sewn as I requested, there was oil or some other substance on the purse that wasnt there before. I asked what it was and the guy who gave me the purse shook his head. I talked to him when I took it in and he speaks broken English and doesnt seem to understand much English. This guy is not the same guy I have been dealing with for years. The person who wrote a review a week ago said it was Carl. I think its a new owner. Anybody have any other information on this shop? I hate to have to find a new place because they were excellent in the past.
Took many pairs of shoes in for modification, Carl, the likeable curmudgeon, does a super job on some hard jobs, Really happy to work with such a great store. By the way, it is on SOUTH Colorado Blvd.
Prices are the same or better than youll get anywhere else and they do a good job.
I had a very difficult repair that I needed done for a boot. They were able to do it here for a more than reasonable price.
Very nice and responsible people, provided awesome service and terrific job quality
