This store is wonderful as are the ladies who work there. The supply of yarn is beyond extensive, and the patterns, samples, and kits make choosing a project so easy. There is a sign-in sheet, so that people are taken in the order they arrived. No special favorites are given special treatment as in other shops I have experienced. There is a separate cozy area with sofas and rocking chairs for knitting, and socializing, and another area for help and instruction. There is coffee, water, and even treats on occasion, making this a warm and welcoming place to knit. There are social evenings where charity knitting is done, and all are invited. The store offers crocheting and weaving as well as knitting. There are plenty of accessories to choose from as well... buttons, project bags, etc.Last but not least, a person can get individual lessons with classes or by booking them with the experts that work there. All in all, I feel very much at home here, and this is where I will continue to do my knitting.
When I went, theyd have ladies knitting at tables that were polite and spoke and stuff. I had my kid the first time and I was just looking at yarn. The staff didnt say anything at all, but they were hovering around us. I assumed it was because the store was small and I had a kid with me. I made a purchase eventually. I was offered no assistance. As other people came and left, the staff would say hi and bye and they were helpful with everyone else. I just assumed they were too busy. As everyone left they got a, thanks for shopping! When I left it was silent. The second time I went, it was the same. I was looking at patterns and they were doing their usual hovering. Its a small place so I just assumed they didnt have room. Nobody spoke again to me and as usual, they offered help to others and spoke as they came and left. Someone said something to another lady because i was sitting on the bench that was supposedly broken but wouldnt talk to me directly. the lady said that she didnt know the bench was broken. i apologized and got up. I didnt find a pattern but found some sexy yarn and asked another lady for help with needles and stuff (shed just finished taking her time helping another lady just before me.) I didnt know what size to use. She acted like I was such an inconvenience. When I checked out I was making conversation and said, maybe next time Ill get lucky enough to find a nice pattern so I dont have as many questions, as I chuckled. I was trying to act appreciative even though I wasnt getting a good vibe. This girl replied, yeah, maybe you should.I left and nobody said bye as I left. No, thanks for shopping, come again, have a nice day, or anything like everyone else was getting. I was going to give them a third try, but I changed my mind. Too many yarn stores down here. Saying, hello, to a potential customer wont hurt you. And giving equal service should be a given.
I wish I had a great experience to share but I do not. Each time I went in there I was not greeted by the staff members or asked if I needed any assistance. Once I was in the store I was followed around by one of the employees, not once did she ask if I needed help. I went to my first knitting social on a Wednesday night because I thought maybe the previous time they were just having a bad day. At the social I was not received well by the employees. The sweet little ladies were just perfect! The second time I went to shop I was treated very rudely by the owner. It came down to one tiny little statement, excuse me, which she couldnt even say. She proceeded to roll her eyes at me as she walked by and mumbled to her employee.I wish it had turned out great since I love to knit & crochet and the variety of yarn is wonderful. However, it did not.
I have been knitting with Debra since she opened the first shop. The shop and all of the women who work there are delightful and very knowledgeable. I especially enjoy the social evenings that Debra offers. It gives me the opportunity to interact with other women who are passionate knitters. Altho I have not taken advantage of it many of the women go in during the day to sit and knit and gab. I recommend the shop to all every opportunity I get.
I have been shopping at the Knitter’s Nook in Delray since 2011. Deb, the owner, carries many good brands of yarn in beautiful colors. I have taken 3 weaving classes and also attended the Monday’s knit along. In addition I am bringing my loom and current project to her new ‘weave along’ group - I have always found the staff to be knowable, friendly and helpful.
Im a fashion and knitting diva. And I only go to the Knitters Nook for my knitting supplies. The yarn colors, quality, and quantity are amazing. And the staff are helpful and always have great tips.
Not customer friendly. Better selection and lower price at yarn dot com which is the website for Webs store. I will not be returning to KN.
Unpleasant service. They never offered to wind the yarn I bought ( no it was not on sale). The owner was supposed to order yarn for me 2 weeks ago, and surprise it was ordered and shipped yesterday. Thats not good service. I would get better service buying yarn on line
There tag line is Theres No Therapy Like It and this yarn shop gives you far more than our needed therapy. Those of us yarnies who know how valuable our LYS (local yarn shop) is, can really appreciate the extensive yarn and accessory choices, the comfortable and calming environment Knitters Nook has created for us, and, of course, their unbelievably fabulous Staff. What more can I say - more LYS should model themselves after Knitters Nook - theyve got the whole package !!!!
Serious knitters avoid this shop, others, you will be able to purchase and make something nice. Main reason I say this is that all yarns are priced 10-20% above retail price point - I walked around the store checking on over 15 different yarns and comparing with my iPad. They only carried one brand of knitting needles, a plastic-y one, I believe it was Knitters Pride; no Addis, no bamboo needles. I wore a beautiful hand-knit Noro and not one of the employees noticed or commented. This store is for people who dont know yarn, dont know knitting, and dont mind being gouged. As far as service, it was fine. The employees were nice. No one greeted me when I came in the door, but they appeared to be busy, and after awhile a couple of the employees asked if I needed any help. I came to find a pair of Addis in a size I needed, which they didnt have as they dont sell Addis, and I only bought a few skeins of bargain-basement sale yarn that I could do something interesting with, because I am not going to pay over retail for yarn. It was a bit of a downer. I believe the pricey neighborhood and the lack of knitting shops in Florida in general contributes to the idea that it is ok to overprice because most of the customers wouldnt know a knitting needle if they fell over it anyway. They only carried one yarn magazine, I believe it was Knit & Purl. They did have Filati seasonal pattern books and did carry a few yarn books. This is the kind of shop that will do fine, but would never last in a city with real knitters. Service: fine, yarn inventory: overpriced, needles and accessories: almost nonexistent. I would probably not go back unless I happened to be in the area, then I would only check on their sale bins.
I beg to differ with the review of the previous post. I have been a KN customer since they opened 6 yrs ago and they have grown tremendously as far as selection of merchandise as well as physical space. (which already discounts whether or not they will last in a city with real knitters) I have met people there that travel to shop there, bypassing their more local yarn shops. With the wide range of selection in yarns, they appeal to ALL knitters, from the budget conscious to those that want unique yarns. I used to be strictly an Addi girl, but have chosen to expand my needle use to include Knitters Pride Dreamz, a wonderful North American hardwood, with a warm feel and pointy tip (not plasticy) since trying them at Knitters Nook. They also carry Karbonz and some Hiya Hiya. It is a bit of a snowbird area, so their inventory is admittedly a little sparse in some areas (accessories) in the slow season.I have also been a small business owner myself, and I know how hard it is for brick and mortar stores to compete with the internet these days. If you are lucky enough to have a LYS I hope everyone can keep in mind the personal attention and help you receive by supporting them.. (On a side note, visiting the stores, laying eyes and hands on the yarns and then buying over the internet is just not cool!) I do not like overpaying for anything and hopefully will never fall over a knitting needle, but I will still keep supporting my local yarn shop, for their merchandise, knowledge and comaraderie because I do know yarn, do know knitting, but also cannot afford to be price gauged.
The woman who owns this store is as nasty as any retailer I have ever encountered. Two weeks ago, I mistakenly purchased a #5 round needle. Discovering that I needed a #6 needle, I stopped today to exchange it. She would not make the exchange. Told me it was against policy. Whose policy? She owns the store. At the time I purchased the needle, I also purchased yarn to make a sweater. Luckily, I dont need her help to make this sweater. And, once its finished, Im going to Just ImaginKnit in Lake Worth to have it finished. Believe me, Ruth and Zana, are as nice as the day is long. They would never have refused to exchange a needle still in its original, un-opened packaging. Just ImaginKnit is on Lake Worth Rd., just west of Jog Rd. and well worth the ride!
Had A BAD EXPERIENCE, they are all very rude, couldnt help me at all, I had few questions on a crochet pattern as I dont know well the instruction of how to buy yarn here in US. As I asked the women seems not to understand either, and said you might want to stick with that yarn over there.... as I was lost still, asked how much yarn do I need - she said 2, 3, 4, it is up to you !My dauther touched a baby clothe that was hanging and the women said, get your hands off....please....I asked another person at the cashier if they have crochet classes, she just answer - Yes - nothing else.... THEY ARE NOT WELCOME AT ALL, at least no to people they dont know or new customer.....maybe they dont need new business.
Love your store! Very friendly.
