This is my favorite coffee shop!! Super tasty coffee, friendly staff, and such an amazing atmosphere and location. ;) I love to get a latte and just sit in the bookstore and crochet. I’ve heard their desserts are good too! This is a bit picky, but I also really like how they have honey out you can use for your coffee and put however much you want (I haven’t been back post-Covid, so I don’t know if that’s still the case). Highly recommend this place!
Great coffee, decor and you can’t beat the location - right inside the iconic Half Price Books off 75/Northwest Hwy in Dallas.Only quibble is the music! You cannot play Metal y’all. Seriously? Had to wear headphones to survive.
Interesting location as a part of (?) Half Price Books. Good coffee, quick service.
Service was great. Coffees strong but I love it
Yummy coffee and very accommodating when there was a miscommunication with my order :) 30/10 I will be back!
My favorite neighborhood coffee shop. They use cold brew as opposed to espresso in their latte and it actually tastes way better that way!
They have reopened!!Pre Covid post and still true:Other than the wonderment of being inside a bookstore, this coffee shop is my favorite. The have THE best chi latte. Its 100+ degrees right now and I still had to stop for a large, hot cup. Staff is always great and the variety of fresh drinks and food at reasonable prices keeps me coming back.
Great coffee but it is NOT Black Owned.
This place has been a haven for me for years, I even went to this half price books as a kid. Moving back years later and actually being able to drink the coffee, in my favorite bookstore, with the coolest baristas who Ive had the pleasure to get to know over the last couple of years, theres really no way to go wrong. I love that all the employees are alternative, I love that they play their own music, I love that they make my favorite Chai latte in all of Dallas, strike up conversation, and give an honest response when you ask how theyve been. Theres very few places I feel more comfortable to just come in, be my awkward self, and enjoy a damn good coffee. When moving into my new apartment, I put into consideration how close I was to my favorite place to relax (here).Cant wait for this pandemic to get better & see Black Forest Coffee reopen.
This coffee shop is tucked into the Half Price Bookstore. It has outlets and tables so you can work or read. I love the staff. They are always friendly and patient. I tried their triple layered chocolate cake with strawberries between each layer. It was very good!
OK everybody! I’m not sure if I just hit this place on a good day or if they do actually make the best vanilla latte I’ve ever had in my life. But I’ve got to say, that’s the best vanilla latte I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve had lattes all over the state of California and Texas. They also have this old school machine there, that they make the lattes with, that is very cool, it looks like maybe a 70s model. There’s this young man there with tattoos all over him and a piercing through his lip, that is a latte Jedi.
The place looks old and it is very odd. It feels like going to a coffee shop in la Havana. They have good coffee, friendly staff and wide variety. The place is located inside of half price books store.
Nothing but pleasant experiences here. the bill was reasonable i would say.
I love having this place nearby. They have a reasonably priced drink menu with good seasonal offerings, good baked items, ample seating, and nice employees. Open late, and inside a large bookstore, so you can get a drink and sit with a book for as long as you want. Good wifi connection, too.
The food is actually pretty good and affordable! Menu items (for food, drink and desserts) are abundant and creative. Highly recommend the tiramisu with the brandy shot and the almond chocolate Florentine cookies! Chill vibes as it’s next to half price books.
Excellent service and coffee. They have THE best cranberry scones!!! But they sell out too fast.... Need to have more for customers. 😊
I love the coffee shop is black owned and their coffee is amazingly good 🤩🤩🤩
The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Its a good environment to study or get some work done and the coffee is very good / reasonably priced. They also have spectacular seasonal drink specials. 5 out of 5
The pastries are divine! Such a chill, accepting atmosphere. One of my favorite places to disappear from the craziness of the world.
Good cortado in funky setting. Loved the music selection. Esoteric crew was sharp and engaged. I found myself transported to San Fran in the 80s... I say this in the most positive way.
One of the most awesome, colorful, open minded, and smiley faces in a well fast paced coffee shop.Everyone is so sweet & kind & friendly, itshard not to hold up the line!!! Ahaha
Staff was courteous. The seating was a little sparse, but the prices were low. Compared to the Starbucks across the street. You can access it from both outside and within the half price book store. The tables were slightly messy with a few crumbs on a table.
This place is still closed even though both google maps and the website indicate it’s open. Please update your website.
I like this place! As far as coffee shops go..the prices are reasonable, the delicacies are amazing and delicious and the baristas are seriously cool and friendly! AND its inside my favorite book store in the world - Half Price Books flagship store!!!
Lovely little coffee shop to get your caffeine fix while exploring the bookstore.
Had a chicken salad sandwich, it was light, tasty and service was quick. Staff were polite. plenty of room to sit (indoor and outdoor). Easy to park.Nice place for a quick bite. Will surely com back if im in the area and feel hungry.
Really well-priced coffee for the area that its in. Also located inside of the Half Price Books flagship so its hard to resist going in and picking up a couple of books (and by that I mean I always go in). They have good bakery options and sandwiches with creative names. Lots of flavors available to add into the drinks. They also sell day-old scones and loaves for half-off and they still taste pretty fresh.
The pastries looked delicious, but the one I had was a bit disappointing. Id try again, though. The lavender latte was good, and the ambiance very comfortable and cozy!
Cozy little coffee shop conveniently placed within Half Price Books. Good communication between baristas when it gets busy, and quick service.
Ive got four words for you: Large SOy Cherry Latte!! Yum!Theres is the best in Dallas. I love the environment. It is laid back and I love the people who work there. I am a regular. Their sandwiches are great and so are their soups. Stop by!
It was so savory. Ive had nothing but enjoyable experiences here and plan to keep visiting. It has a cool atmosphere.
Cup of coffee while I shop around at Half-Price? Yes please.Honestly, the coffee house isnt much. Its attached to Half Price and Im not sure if the hours are different or not... I didnt really check this place out to much, I just ran in and grabbed my coffee, then went out.Service was ok, the coffee was good, and the book selection is FANTASTIC!
This coffee shop has fantastic sweets! The serving size is awesome. The coffee selection is limited but the baristas prepare excellent espresso and machiattos. Its great to grab some new book at HPB and start to read it at Black Forest Coffee. Perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon which it was the day I visited.
I love this little cafe. They have very seducing cakes there. In winter cup of hot tea or coffee is great. Now they have fruit smoothies - always refreshing.
Review for Coffee Shop for Writing, Working, JournalingI come here when I drop into Half Price books with the family, but that is not the context of this review.I am reviewing Black Forest Coffee for the purpose of getting work done.I write a lot, and find that coffee shops offer the right mix of solitude and stimulation for generative output.PROS:1. Black Forest Coffee reminds me of the coffee shops of my youth growing up in Bay City, Michigan. It has got some grit, heady conversations and lots of reading (due to literally being inside Dallass largest bookstore).2. Good coffee, good price3. Spill out seating in Half Price Books4. People watching5. Coffee is always made and ready, not much time spent waiting6. Appropriate level of introversion in the atmosphere (can work uninterrupted)CONS:Everything that I could complain about, I kind of like about this place. A little grungy... some wobbly tables... kind of uncomfortable chairs... people smoking near the entrance...Reminder: This is not a review of the bakery items, the customer service, a full menu or a lunch spot. This is a review for people who are looking for a place to work in a spot with some stimulation and some privacy and some good coffee.
You wanna know where I get my cakes. Here you go, yummy and delicious birthday cakes.
Great coffee and tea. Several dairy free options! I seem to find myself purchasing their florentines everytime.... So dang good!
A hidden gem inside a badass bookstore! I thoroughly enjoyed my coconut cinnamon latte. Better than white rock coffee in my opinion
Little gem of a coffee shop hidden inside Half Price Books Flagship store on Northwest Highway. And they have brewed decaffeinated coffee later in the day, that tastes good.
I work next door but since i cant bring in any outside drinks ill order one coffee and read a book. for not so great coffee for the price which is a little expensive.
Lavender Latte was deliciously iced. Apple strudel was good but cold. Not much variety of baked goods.
Good service, nice environment, good drink.Staff knowledgeable and passionate about coffee roasting and prep. Bit on the pricy side. But it is an experience
This place is great. The workers are all very friendly and personal and the food is delicious! Best chicken salad Ive ever had.
This place has a great cup of coffee and some amazing cakes.
Great service but either they have really weak espresso or they gave my decaf for some reason (I was nice and didnt give them a reason to give me decaf)
They use locally-roasted coffee from Full City Rooster and bring in freshly-baked goods from their bakery across the street. Awesome coffee + Half Price Books = A Winner
Their cafe is wayyyy better than Starbuck! Good price. Perfect space to meet friends or study. The baristas are super friendly and cool. I love their mocha. Highly recommended!
If you like hipsters, with hipster-esque attitudes, selling overpriced mediocre coffee, this pace is for you. Their painfully slow unsecured Wi-Fi is their only saving grace - perhaps coupled with two painfully cute baristas who were very friendly.
Staff rude. Overpriced! I see broken cakes in the shelf all the time. They dont serve fresh. The cake I had was iced. Refrigerator pastries.
Just got food poison after chicken sandwich there. Threw up and number 2 all night and morning. Had it last night
Really like the atmosphere of this place. Great coffee / lattes and timely service.
Honey oat latte is good:)
Yum! Great muffins. Unique! Get there early in day for best selection.
The people here are so authentic and friendly! Theres always a surprise in the dessert cases, the food is good, the drinks make that place across the street look sad, lol.
I got a peach smoothie, which was fine. Service was a little on the slow side.
Coffee was wonderful. It is eclectic and relaxed.
I didnt manage to get the Baristas name (he was a taller, bearded gentleman in a ballcap) but he provided me with excellent service and a delicious drink
Excellent coffee and we love their almond florentines!!
Chill place with coffee options and a place to read a good book. Next to Half Price books.
Its a little small and I wasnt thrilled with the coffee. But the vibe is nice, I like to bring my cards here and just people-watch.
Best cakes and coffee in town!
Yummy to eat sweets from Black Forest Bakery at Coffee shop inside, Half Price Books!!!! OMG
Great friendly service, good prices, and AMAZING food. Definitely going back soon.
The barista who helped me(wearing a GRL PWR cap)was very polite and made a quality beverage! Very down to earth place and its attached to half price books which is convenient if you want a quick read or just browsing. The baristas seem very enthusiastic about coffee so thats always comforting to hear since I am always on the lookout for new cafes to get espresso from. 👍🏽
Quiet place with nice staff and now with great coffee as well.
Great iced coconut latte and friendly staff!
Best iced chai and friendly staff
Mocha latte was excellent!
Their coffee is so bleh! Super weak and can barely ever taste the flavor!
Good food and coffee. Little dingy.
I love this coffee shop next door to half price books its great. Megan from plano 10 stars.
Iced coffee was really bad but they were nice
Hard to find but DEFINITELY worth it
Great latte great location
Best coffee house ever!! Highly recommend!
Good coffee, quiet atmosphere.
Love the hospitality and customer service!
Friendly staff. Tasty treats.
Great services by staff
Spartan, but the coffee is decent and power plugs are everywhere, feeding patrons hunched over laptops.
Tried. Anxiety officialy worse
Beasts place for coffee and sandwiches
The Florentines are to DIE for! I just went up there the other day and bought five...eating the last one now.
Just go to Starbucks instead. Its a more reliable disappointment.
Fast, accurate, friendly, and reasonably priced.
Lovely little place!
Great coffee
Coffee was not so good at this place
Over priced and the workers are rude
Good coffe
Ok
Good Service, Good Coffee.
Amazing cakes!!!
I could live here.
Very rich all their cakes
