Love this place. Japanese grocery store with everything you need at a reasonable price. Its clean and offers a lot of choices for cooking Japanese dishes at home.Bonus point: have two free EV charging spots. Due to high demand you dont always get a charge but its indeed very thoughtful for customers.
One of my favorite Japanese Market to go when Im down here. They have almost everything and more with sales. I find this market is usually cheaper than comparable ones around the Bay Area. Good selection of sushi and cosmetics.
Love shopping here for drinks (tea, alcohol, sodas) and snacks (sandwiches, sashimi, meat, chips). The produce is good, too and they carry items from Hawaii (snacks, food). Nice variety at good prices!
Great place for Japanese groceries locally. Despite being somewhat smaller than Mitsuwa marketplace, the area crams more varied products in place. Personally, my favorite area is the can coffee fridge-- no store that Ive seen has the Georgia/demitasse coffee that this store does. Good stop for some different jp alcohol and beauty products if thats your bag. Decent selection of groceries in general with massive Japanese flair. Not too many American products in-store.
Revamped place compared to what I had seen quite some time back. Clean and faster service. Very helpful staff. Had no issues on finding my requirements.
My kiddo and I love this place! Reasonably priced Sushi and many other nice food items to try.
Great selection of Japanese snacks and goods. Apparently, they have changed the location of the candies and snacks.
It’s a good Japanese food store. Shop staff are very kind! We can see Donki penguins😆
Havent been here in a while. The onigiris are great when I see them and I enjoy the snacks.
I went here out of convenience since I was in the area and had a couple things I needed. They had a good selection of the things I needed and I found something Id been looking for but hadnt been able to find at other stores. I may have to go here more often.
Nice selection of groceries and snacks located in an area with nice restaurants and ample parking.
Always clean, shoppers are polite and friendly. Top quality fresh seafood and produce. Reasonable prices
Excellent choices of ready made fresh sashimi rice bowls and sushi plates to take out. Reasonably priced.
Competitively priced deli goods make this local ethnic grocer worth a stop.
My favorite Japanese supermarket in the Bay Area, reasonably priced and with a great variety of otherwise difficult-to-source ingredients. I used to shop here regularly on my many business trips to Cupertino/Palo Alto in the 2010s. As others have mentioned too, their outstanding sushi corner gives competitors a run for their money.
Love the selection and value of meats! I love how I can get child hood Hawaii goods from there.
Good meat selection at ok prices. Sushi selection/quality has gone down for the price since covid. Most of all please bring back soft shell crab rolls!
Great little Japanese grocery store. Offers more reasonable pricing for imported goods then some of the other Japanese grocery stores in the area.
Nice Japanese market with many choices: sake, snacks, sliced beef.
This is my favorite Japanese market in the whole south bay area. The prices are slightly lower than Mitsuwa on Saratoga ave, maybe because of the lease as this area does not have the heavy traffic volume. They pretty much have it all, prepared foods like futomaki, california rolls, ect, sashimi sets, all types of seafoods that you can build your own kaisendon. (Which I have done)Fresh fruits and vegies, tofu from SJ tofu, all types of meats cut and individually wrapped for ramen, sukiyaki or hot pots.I would just avoid the heavy crowds around dinner time. Since the place is relatively small, the lines go down the aisle ways and can ties up your time.
Love the snacks there!
Good place to get hotpot stuff.
Their sale prices can make their products cheaper compared to other supermarkets that carry the same brands like mitsuwa or h mart. They also are the only ones who have negitoro sushi and a respectable selection of canned coffees. The onigiri here is very similar to mitsuwa so if you have a craving for a one either location would do.
I come here over mitsuwa and nijiya. The bf and his mom prefer this over mitsuwa too, she was impressed finding stuff here she didnt think could be found outside Japan. They carry harder to find stuff like negitoro. They also periodically have the pasteurized eggs meaning raw egg dishes without fear of salmonella!! Their meat and fish selection are always very high quality and well priced. Their snacks are more varied and they import even the season limited stuff before its over in Japan. More recently theyve been on/off stocking bottled Japanese milk tea--something that has been impossible to find in California after that Chinese milk fiasco of 2008. Alcohol selection? Also way better! Found some really good drinks that I havent found elsewhere in america. The only negative really is their produce selection isnt the best. Frequently a little pricy and a lot of times their produce I have to throw out soon after bringing home. Had to take off a star for it. 😢
Good food, but most impressive is covid-19 safety measures
No organic soy sauce. Lots of drinks are out of stock too.
Monday is not a great time to visit. They are out of a lot of their food.
Best place for a huge selection of hotpot meat, marinated chicken thigh, decent oroshi wasabi, local gombei tofu.
It has great service and I found exactly what I was looking for.
Good selection of mostly Japanese food.
I love the sliced fresh beef section in this store!
Great Japanese grocery store! I travel about 40 miles to visit this grocery store. They have great food items that I cannot find in other markets. The staff is always so helpful and friendly!
Delicious fresh made sushi at a reasonable price. Very good variety of Asian foods.. They also check your temperature before entering the store.
Best place to buy Japanese food products and they have sushi futomaki rolls, bento boxes, products from Hawaii and lots more.
Very tasty cream puff
Store makes me feel like I’m in Japan again. It is great!( ^ _ ^ )
Crowded....but what do you expect.
This is the only Marukai in the valley.
Its 10:18 am and I just finished shopping at this store. I checked out at cashier #4. The old lady worked this shift as a cashier was very rude. She tried her best to ignore us by not open her mouth once even when I had a simple concern. Good products quality but rude cashier:(
Hidden gem. If you know you know.
3-1/2 stars. Lack variety and prices for same products about 20% higher than Korean grocery stores. But, many Japanese food staples actually come from Japan.
Very good Japanese grocery store. You can get many fishes, spices, dressings, sauces, noodles. Sometimes, you can also get frsh eggs which can eat as raw.
Great selection of sashimi. Good sale items.
Excellent Japanese grocery store.
Small but fairly good collection of Japanese items and groceries.
I bought some sashimi tuna the other day and later I found out that it was rotten inside the saku of tuna. When they were cutting and packaging it at the store, they must have known that it wasnt edible. Unethical!!!
Very cool store.
Good variety of Japanese food items, and great food fairs.
Went to check out if I could find Japanese masks since Daiso was closed. Found a mask packet and asked aged lady near the counter if they have more type - she replied super quick - that’s all they have. I went back - found more type. I felt unwelcome- didn’t buy anything. Very poor customer service.
If theres a long line at Mitsuwa, come here. Better sales too.
To my disappointment. This pack of shrimp I bought had only the right size on the top. Filled with much smaller shrimps underneath. Being a patron many years there, I’ve seen their ups and downs, this is almost like cheating. They don’t seem to be mixed together by mistake cuz only the right size on the top.It is not all about of the shrimp, it is about how you think about your customer and this is the first time I have seen something like this, hoping this is not a directive from the store management.I hope this will help consumers and the business establishment.
I give a 5 star rating bcuz 1. Service was EXCELLENT (I asked the same woman for help several times she was VERY helpful) 2. We were shopping for osechi ryori ingredients and we found everything we needed. 3. They had several types of Yuzu sake, not so easy to find. 4. There was a line to get in but only had to wait 15min (compared to the line at Mitsuwa was estimated at 45min!!!)
Every time I come here to cook some Japanese dish, okonomi-yaki, suki-yaki.
Great collections of Japanese liquor.
Covid-19 Safety Review (how safe do I feel visiting this store again) .1. Cart handles sanitized - someone is cleaning the shopping carts2. Limit number of customers - Yes3. Temperature check at the door - Yea4. Employees wearing masks - yes5. Petition between cashier and customers - Yes6. Tape marking for 6 ft while in line- Yes7. Social distance among customers- not too bad but definitely not 6 ftThis store and Trader Joe are only supermarkets that I feel safe to go shop at during pandemic.
Great selection and customer service.
Great produce selection, ample parking and great prices. Staff are very helpful and cashiers are fast!!
A great source of Japanese food, grocery and household items. Fresh, clean produce and meat sections. Deli foods. Cons, a little on the expensive side but items on sale can be a good buy. Try the stores in Southern CA. Those are huge but Cupertino is still okay.
I was just there to pick up a few ethnically Chinese items.
Love the store. I buy all my japanese food there...they have takeout all different kinds of sushi...the gave a huge section of Hawaiian foods
Reasonable price compared to other Japanese grocery stores in the valley. Tea drinks are on deal and way more cheaper than those sold at other Asian markets. We paid a visit to it during the quarantine period. The store was doing a good job in controlling the traffic and cleaning the cart.
Good service tanks Marukai
Many japan products included cosmetic and food
Good selection of Japanese grocery.
Good store.can get authentic Japanese groceries
Always a pleasure visiting this place. Has never let me down, always have a good experience here. Best place I know of for fresh fish when our family makes Pokè.
Good place to buy Japanese food and other items. They have a good selection of Japanese sake. There are a variety of electronic items like rice cooker, water heater, and and other small household electronics. Instant noodles/ramen selection is smaller than expected. The snacks section is quite good. They also have a lot of ready to eat Japanese items, but usually sells out by around 6:30 or 7 pm.
Best Japanese market in the Bay Area - wide variety of gummies at affordable prices
They have shichirin! If you dont know what these are, they are portable Japanese bbqs used for everything from grilling fish to yakitori sticks to mochi. What makes this cool is that it has a little windows to control temperature in the old fashioned analog way. They even sell special charcoal for this, which unfortunately I didnt have a chance to try.
I stumbled upon this place today and this is quite nice, excellent selection I was pleasantly surprised. Ill be coming back...
Well stocked, better pricing than some of their competition.
Like sushi and sushi-related supplies...look no further. Well-priced with a great selection even during these pandemic times.
Always has a good selection of sushi, especially the poke bowls. Fish is always fresh, never a fish smell. Which means fresh and clean place. If you smell fish I would not take a chance on raw fish to eat. Friendly staff and helpful, same issue as with any popular place, parking sucks.
I went their a few times and they have Precure or Prettycure toys their, They are not cheap, About in between, $5 to $10 are the prices for them...
