I wanted to buy a new pole saw. I called to ask some questions. But they were too busy to take my call. I left my number but they Never returned my call. I tried again, same result.
Needed new weed trimmer. Had some in stock and answered all my questions. Bonus was shown how to use it and was easily started.

Needed a lawnmower mower repaired. Its a brand that they cant get parts for. But I have to give them credit. The guy I spoke to was extremely helpful. He took the time to give me recommendations of places that could help me. You dont see good customer service like this anymore.

I dropped my mower off for repairs, and was told it would be ready in 2 to 3 weeks. After calls 6 and 8 weeks later still no response. 3 months later, I stopped at the shop and was told that the mower needed a new motor. Really, and they never notified me. GOOD LUCK DOING BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!

I took my lawnmower there for warranty service. After two months, they advised that the original warranty issuer had changed, and that they were unable to get warranty parts from the successor warranty issuer. They issued an opinion which I took back to Menards, they place from which I purchased the lawnmower. I left my receipt copy with Gruel Brothers, so Menards will not act upon Gruel Brothers opinion. It appears that Gruel Brothers checked with Menards when I first took in my lawnmower, but Menards does not keep track of the referrals. So, as in my case, when warranty service is unsuccessful, you still have to have your receipt which you also had to present to the warranty service provider, or, as in my case, you are SOL. For me, that is approximately $400.00. Lesson learned!!!
Called to ask a question about my vintage tractor and spoke to someone very knowledgeable. They pointed me in the right direction and made it seem like they wanted to be a help even though their services were not ultimately being used.

Very friendly staff with excellent service. You dont get this kind of service at the big box stores. After buying a trimmer/edger/powerhead combo kit, they even took it out back, added some fuel, and ran it for me for a while to make sure everything was working correctly. Showed me how everything worked, explained my options. Knowledgeable staff that spent as much time as I needed to make my decision. Definitely will be going here for all of my lawn equipment needs.

I was sent here by the factory warranty on my Toro lawn-mower. It was pretty evident that they did not like dealing with mowers that were not from their store- which is fine, but maybe they shouldnt be an authorized service dealer.They did not call me to tell me what was wrong with the mower and just made repairs- and did not call me when it was finished. After a few weeks, I called in and found out they were waiting for me to pick it up and I had to ask about the repairs and the price- even though I wasnt given the option if I wanted to go through with the repairs.The workers really were not friendly and before even looking at the mower implied that I had done something wrong to the mower.I am only giving 2 stars for the fact that my mower does now run, but if I ever have any other future service needs, I will not be going back.

HORRIBLE customer service. Argumentative and belligerent. After paying for two shop visits, my lawn tractor was still malfunctioning. I called with questions and was confronted with condescension and hostility. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE.
I dropped by my mower off after 4 weeks of waiting and making 2 calls for a update I get you need a new engine mind you this is a new well maintained mower. I asked to come see what was wrong and they say we dont allow customers in the shop I couldnt get an answer from these guys when I ask after several calls I get a quick response that it needs an engine then they refuse to let me see it and show me what is wrong.These guys dont pass the smell test. Take your mower somewhere else. I would rather buy another mower than spend $300 fixing mine. If I was a betting man I am sure my mower will be listed on Let Go or Criags List within the week - sounds like a scam.STAY AWAY!
Amazing old school customer service and helpfulness. On 8/11/15, when on his way to their cars, the guys (TOM) re-opened the store to help me with an impossible to find $3.00 part. After no luck at 5 other places, (sent to GRUEL by helpful Ace hardware attendant) turns out they actually had on on order and coming next day. Tom and company are now - (for obvious reasons) going to be my FIRST stop for any parts or products in the future. Recommend them 5 Stars - very VERY Highly ! THX
I have been taking my lawn mowers to Gruel Brothers for a number of years for maintenance. I brought my mower in at the beginning of April for its annual service and was told it would be ready in time for the mowing season. When I did not hear anything after 2 weeks, I called and was told it would be another 7-10 days before it would be done. I called again in 7 days and was told it would be at least 7 more days. After 4 weeks I went in and talked with them. I was told that I was next on the list, but that it would be at least 2 more days before it would be ready. When I questioned why it would take 2 days if I was next, the person got annoyed and said that Gruel Brothers has been in business for 80 years and he was tired of explaining the lawn mower business to people who don’t understand what the business is about. Then he got defensive and told me reasons why (I didn’t buy my mower from them, new sales take priority over maintenance). I will be going elsewhere in the future due to such poor customer service.
I have had two good experiences with Gruel Brothers and two bad ones.First the good. I went in to get some parts for my snowblower, I thought it needed a new bowl and float, but they said to try the needle valve first. That fixed it right up. Good advice and good price on parts. Second good time was a very reasonably priced repair on my Stihl chainsaw when I stripped a bolt on it. Quick and reasonable, which is why I went back the next time.The next time I went back, I took a consumer level Exmark mower to get the deck fixed and a spring maintenance completed. I got the mower back and they had fixed the deck, but had changed the oil even though I requested they didnt (and overfilled it), they didnt sharpen the blades but charged me for it, and incorrectly leveled the deck (which I was charged for also). When I went back, the technician argued with me that he did sharpen the blades and leveled the deck when it was obvious he had forgot. I told the tech that I would just go talk to the manager and get a refund, at which point, he backpedaled and agreed to fix the machine properly. In the end, they did fix the machine, but it was a hassle and not worth my time.The last and final time I will ever set foot in this place was today. I just needed to get a lawn tractor tire repaired. Because the wheel and tire was off a brand of tractor that they dont sell, they refused to work on it. It is just a tire repair. This is like a Ford dealer telling me they cant fix a tire on a Chevrolet. I took it to my local tire shop and they happily fixed it and I paid them a fair price.Thankfully, there are plenty of lawn and garden shops in the area that have much better attitudes and service that Gruel Brothers. The location is convenient for me, but I am willing to drive to get better service and I can order Toro parts online when needed.

We have purchase 3 pieces of lawn equipment from Gruel Brothers. I called September 2015 asking them to pick up my riding lawn mower for yearly service. Explained to the gentleman that I was done using it for the season and wanted to get it in before they got busy with winter equipment. He said they would call when they could pick it up. I called back in November because I was moving and asked if they could please pick it up. I was told they were working on winter equipment and would not be able to get to it til Spring. I said that was the reason I called in SEPTEMBER!! The man told me he didnt know I was done using it. Said they would get to it first thing this Spring. Called in March and they said they would try to get get me on the list - explained I had been on THE LIST since last September. Then was told since I lived so close they would come get it right away - explained I had moved to Griffith - was told they normally dont go that far to pick up equipment. SERIOUSLY!! They picked it up the beginning of April - it is now April 25th - I just called to see when they would be returning my mower and heard the mechanic tell the man I was talking to that he was just given the service ticket on SATURDAY and he would not be able to get to it until mid-week. Have no idea when I will get my mower back. In the meantime my grass is getting higher by the day. WILL NOT BE GOING BACK TO GRUEL

Promised 2 to 3 weeks 5 weeks later they tell me another week or so. Then they were sarcastic about it. He also stated you didnt buy this from us so we take care of our customers first. What he didnt know is my family has been buying movers chain saws and trimmers from them for over 40 years. I wont go back.

I took my Sears Craftsmen snowblower in for an annual tune-up to Gruel Bros today. Loaded the snowblower in the trunk of my car and took it to Gruel Bros today...the guy says sorry we dont service Craftsmen products as we have too many of our own products to handle/too busy dont need the work,... and plus you wont get it back until February.Ouch say good-bye to a good former customer and wont be buying from your store if I ever need a new snowblower. Apparently they are doing so well they dont need to build their customer base.
