Fantastic place! My wife and I bought both of our skis, boots, and poles here. The staff is super helpful and will help you with the selections to make sure you get the right gear for yourself. They have a great selection of used and new gear. I think they have the best prices in the valley from other shops that I visited. They also done a great job on a basic tune up that I needed for my skis. This is my go-to place for snow gear. They also do climbing gear sales and services as well. Overall, it is a great shop and conveniently located next to Big Cottonwood canyon.

They had a wiener dog truck in the front of the shop. That was awesome. This is a cool little shop. I made it just in time as I worked till 6pm. The selection is great. This was my first time in the shop and this was my first time buying rock climbing gear. Kevin was super helpful. He answered all of my questions and was patient with his time and he did not seemed bothered annoyed as I had a lot of newbie questions. I am grateful for that. I highly recommend. I left with great gear for great prices. I will be back.

Even though this store is a tight space, all patrons were respectful of one another - everyone in masks and giving one another enough room to pass by. staff very friendly and great knowledge base/skills set. these guys know the answers and they sell quality merchandise. plan to stay a while and check out the basket of gloves/mittens that are ridicuously inexpensive and the poles outside the rear windows! Great experience! they got me into the gear I needed to be up here for a few hours! I highly recommend The Gear Room!

The Gear Room is a great place to find used clothes and gear. My husband picked up his climbing shoes that he dropped off a month or so ago to get resoled and I found a sweet used Cotopaxi coat originally over $100 and I got it at The Gear Room for $40! We’ve had friends find incredible deals on appear here too.They also have used skis, backpacks, new and used cams, and lots of climbing shoes. They’ve got a lot into a little space. I have a feeling we might start frequenting this place.

No doubt this is the best place for buying outdoor clothing on consignment. I always find clothes in great shape at very discounted prices.Recently I visited in order to find a used sleeping bag. I called ahead to ask about their inventory and I was told someone would be able to show me where they were stored since they arent stocked on the shelves for the season yet. However, the associate I spoke to when I arrived said it wasnt possible to show me what was stored and so I had the very small stocked selection to choose from. Would love to see the customer service be more consistent

They were very helpful and got me set upwith gear so I wouldn’t have to rent for the rest of the season. Even though it’s late season I’ll still save money and have gear for next season. To make things even better, the gear is better then what I was renting. Better boot fit, better skis. All around win. Also it’s great that they help give skis and boots a second home & life. It’s good for the environment and your pocketbook.(edit: tried the boots and skis out, such a good deal & such a better fit then what I was renting. So for anyone getting into the sport, I highly recommend going here to get that first setup as you grow and learn.)

Just needed a little extra gear before going up Big Cottonwood Canyon. The employee that helped me was very kind and personable. I also loved the convenience of the store and the prices werent jacked up, even with it being at such a high traffic location. I will definitely be returning.

When you go here to look for gear, its like youre going through your buddys garage. The people working always want to fit you with the best options for YOU, and also help you sell your gear at fair prices for the community.

I can’t recommend these guys enough - got an absolute steal on my BC setup from them this fall, and a full intermediate resort setup for my wife that has served her very well. Staff is extremely knowledgeable about the sports they cover, and very friendly as well. They obviously love the mountain sports they’re selling gear for, just an all around great shop.

These guys and gals are the best of the best. Such great prices on quality gear and always a welcoming environment. I have purchased many items from them over the years. Their tune shop is also amazing. I dented the edge of a ski and thought I was going to have to get a major repair, dropped them off and not even a full day later they were done and fully tuned and you wouldnt even have noticed the edge had been hit. Rich was the ski tech and he crushed it. Kevin and Chris and the whole team at the Gear Room are great!

Heard good reviews before going to this shop. Called first with some questions and they answered all of them with ease. Drove all the way from Ogden to their shop and they treated me very well!!! Worth the extra 45 minute drive. They were respectful of my budget and eager to help me with my specific situation. They got me all set to ski tomorrow! Came in with my ski boot that had broken on the bottom base. Gear Room is a dealer for myBoot brand and Ian went in back and found a replacement part and let us replace it at the shop at no cost. It could not have been a more thoughtful act of kindness. I was going to have to rent boots otherwise and now I can use my own for the rest of the weekend!! Love this place it saved my weekend!

A couple people recommended this place, so I made a special drive 45 min away. I was ready to make some purchases and was expecting to get a more personal experience at a small local shop. This place has the best deals and the best vibes right on the way to Solitude/hiking. We were on a mission to get some used snow shoes for a good deal and ended up with exactly what we needed, plus nice recommendations on snow shoeing in the area. This shop was recommended to me by my friend, Sam. Being new to both Utah and to skiing in general, I had a ton of questions, and both Ian and Louis were so helpful in getting me set up from start-to-finish. Gear shops can be vibey, but these dudes were so welcoming and helped a newbie feel comfortable asking questions. I cant recommend this place enough.

We were in Salt Lake recently and on the advice of a friend we stopped by the Gear Room to look for back country skis and bindings. We tend to really dig into a purchase, visiting lots of stores, weighing lots of alternatives. The people that outfitted us at the Gear Room were just outstanding. They didnt just push what they had in inventory that they needed to move, they took us on as a problem that needed to be solved, and sold us what they thought we needed. My best friend just bought skis and boots from here. Spent a good amount on both so we expected he was getting a good product. Boots work great...for now. But the skis were taken on groomers for one day and literally FELL APART.When we brought the skis back, the employees were extremely rude to us, did not believe our situation, and said there was nothing they could do.

Gear Room was recommended by a local resident. I had them mount a set of binding on some skis I had already purchased. They are about half the rate of other shops I checked with. I got there when the door were opened. They would have done them while I waited and got a text about 15 minutes later that they were done. What great service. Five stars for sure.

Resoled a couple of pairs of shoes here. Great vibe upon entering the shop. Very friendly and helpful. Quite patient explaining the different options for resole. This is the place!

The gear room has fantastic gear and a great selection/option to buy used/cheaper stuff too. Staff was also very helpful and friendly. Skiing, snowboarding, climbing. All the greatest stuff.

Maybe its good for skiing and used gear but the snowboard stuff is all crammed in the basement and the staff it not very helpful. For example, I asked two staff members to help with snowboard bindings because I am new to the sport and no one helped me.

Excellent local shop with a wide variety of new and used climbing, ski, snowboard, and outdoors equipment. The staff are excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable. Definitely stop by before heading up into the Cottonwood Canyons!

This place is the bees knees. Chris, Madson and the rest are always super helpful. Got my boots here on a really good deal. Always go in for tune ups and they are quick about getting your stuff back. Would highly recommend! Also great location when you come down the canyons and need something.

For a small shop it has incredible selection, caring staff, and even the people in the shop who are there as customers often engage in conversations about gear, lending a helping hand, asking questions or offering advice. The gear room is worth supporting because of the commitment that the employees and owners show to their local climbing community. These guys and gals are the real deal; they clearly care about the Wasatch, and they contribute in a number of meaningful ways.Their consignment is honestly amazing; tons of touring skis, a boatload of climbing gear, and a bunch of other things. Prices are all over the place (being that its a consignment store, prices are set by the sellers), but generally very fair. Some killer deals can be found here.

What an amazing little shop! Its packed full of gear: new, used, demo. I bought way more than I planned, but was such a great deal. And theyre beyond friendly, went out of their way to help me with a gear issue by doing a rush binding remount so I could get onto the mountain tomorrow.

Highly recommend! Theyve equipped me and my kids with ski, climbing, camping gear. These guys are super knowledgable and friendly. The inventory turns over quickly, and they always seem to have what I need. Their sticker is on my laptop (covering up the apple logo :-)

I came in here with the intent of getting some backcountry ski gear. I had no idea what I was doing, looking for, or what to do, but I decided to stop here after hearing great things from friends.They were right, what a great shop with even greater employees. Chris was able to help me find a set of skis (used for $50 with fairies on them!), bindings (new), and skins (used) way under my budget. One other guy, whose name I forget but had a great hat on, helped me to find the perfect fit with used touring ski boots. Touring gear is not cheap, but they were able to help me find exactly what I needed at the price I needed.They walked me through each step, and what I needed based on my height, weight, and experience level, and explained the different types of skis based on snow types, how to use my new gear, and how to keep it in good shape. They also explained how I can upgrade as I get better, and what they can do for me. Finally, they mounted my skis, and gave them a good tune up.The first ride in my new babies were a blast, all thanks to them.I’ve come here countless times after. Their deals on new and used gear and the kindness and knowledge of the employees makes me want to come here every day. Unfortunately my wallet wouldn’t be too happy, but I can dream 😁

I pretty much go to the Gear Room on a weekly basis to check out what new inventory they have. I have found some incredible deals here; seriously I would not be able to afford my lifestyle if it werent for the Gear Room. Also the staff is great and I love being able to chat with them and hear about what theyre getting after. They are extremely knowledgeable and always helpful. HUGE shoutout to Ian at the Gear Room for hooking it up super fat. These guys had a pair of skis from 2012 that I’ve been searching for for the better part of 6 years. They had them in their storage shed, and I was told that when they changed to winter gear displays, they would ship them out to me. That day was TODAY! Ian took my payment over the phone and I swear he got the skis boxed up and sent out with Priority shipping so fast I thought it was a scam, until he sent me the shipping information and the receipt. Cannot thank these people enough, the skis are the first skis I ever wanted as a kid but wasn’t big enough to ride them. Ian, keep killin it bro!

Best customer service Ive ever experienced. They are so nice and incredibly helpful. They helped me mount some bindings that I brought in that turned out to not have breaks. About a week later, they called me offering me a pair that they had sitting around the shop for free. An incredible company that goes out of their way to help their customers.
