Mochi + Donut = chewy texture with a warm sweet aroma. Fill bakeshop is worth a visit to pick up a dozen mochi donuts or mochi cookies they serve. The donuts are pretty to look at and can fulfill your sweet tooth as the donuts a fairly sweet. The peach lemonade they serve was a bit too sweet as well. The mochi cookies were worth a try as the Ube cookie I ordered wasnt too sweet and the texture had a nice crisp bite with a soft gooey chew in the center. Youll want milk when visiting this shop so balance out the sweetness of the desserts.
I recently used the 1/2 dozen boxes to deliver to some offices to build more awareness of our local business. There was a small line to order doughnuts but I had called my order in ahead of time. There was a separate line for picks ups so I was in and out within 3 minutes. The boxes and doughnuts had amazing presentation (and smell) :)! I plan on using Fills again for sure! The place was clean, efficient and everyone was friendly. Thanks again!
Their mochi donuts are really really good. I love the shape they make them, the donut is kind of bulbous and breaks into gratifying mouth-filling bite sized pieces. Definitely try a few flavors so you can find what you like - the flavors might not be 100% what you imagine if youre not used to mochi but thats not to say its not good!
I love mochi donuts and Fill Bakeshop has some of the best anywhere. I purchased a dozen and really dont know which one I like better, all of them were so good. The mochi cookies were amazing as well. Really fast and really great service. I will definitely be back for the tiramisu, it looked so good just like everything else there. Thanks Fill Bakeshop, see you soon.
I love mochi doughnuts and have been traveling to different cities to try them out from different establishments. Fill is definitely the furthest Ive gone so far and let me tell you, I would make that 50+ minute drive again! There were a couple of hiccoughs with my order. For example, I ordered an hour ahead and already got there about 15 minutes after the text saying it was ready, only to be told that it was going to be another 15-20 minute wait time because the glaze for the Brown Butter Sea Salt wasnt ready. There were several other issues I already spoke to management about and they were extremely responsive. Everything was handled with solid customer service, genuine apologies and some free doughnuts. The cost is higher than regular doughnuts because, well, theyre way better than traditional doughnuts, lets be honest. But Fills pricing is on par with most other mocha doughnut shops, so I would consider the cost fair for what you are getting. My friends and I had bought three dozen doughnuts, so several of every flavor they had that day. Everyone who tried one was ecstatic about them. The flavors and texture were spot on. I love the creativity in the glazes and they were the most beautiful mochi doughnuts Ive seen so far. Im very impressed and highly recommend this shop. I would make the drive again out to the OC because they are worth it.
Owner has verbally assaulted staff because of his inability to control his emotions. Great donuts and awesome staff though :)
One of the best donuts we have ever had! The place is small place, but it has what you need...a variety of donuts, pastries and good customer service. We really enjoyed our donuts to go. Fortunately, we went from the place next to and got out very quick. Very clean place with a welcoming staff. We’ll be back next time in town.
Delicious 😋Youre certainly missing out if you havent tried one of their Mochi Donuts. Whichever flavor you pick youve made the right choice.Tried a variety of their donuts and their all delicious. My favorite has to be the Taro Donut. On top of really good food their staff are extremely friendly, which is always appreciated in a business and definitely helps bring people back for more goods eatin!
These are my favorite mochi donuts! I live all the way in Oceanside and will drive up here just for a box, I’ve had other mochi donuts from closer establishments but they’re just not as good. They always have such fun flavors, my favorite is Taro. It’s an easy place to spot, though it is small, but with COVID doesn’t really matter right now. They do cost much more than your typical box of donuts, but they’re worth it for a treat.
We drove all the way from Pasadena to Orange county for this and it did not disappoint. Being a mochi donut the consistency is wonderful. Somewhat crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Flavours are delightful, a mix of regular and international ones. Just hoping they will open a branch in the Los Angeles area or the San Gabriel Valley area.
Hibiscus:Bleh. Hibiscus tastes like sour butter or sour ghee. When warmed it actually has some sweetness. Only good warm.Guava Cheesecake:I really liked this flavor! Guava flavor is pretty strong so it balances the oily donut. Its a sweet guava not tart at all.Matcha Crunch:Matcha is so good I can tell the frosting is very heavily concentrated w matcha. Buttttt the oily flavor of the donut overpowered the matcha flavor. I ended up eating the matcha coating part first and then finishing the bottom plain donut part because together the matcha was underwhelming. I could taste more guava in the guava donut than matcha in the matcha donut---Second time~White chocolate rose:Omg this is by far the best mochi donut!! The sweetness of the chocolate and floral flavor of the rose cut the oily flavors of the donut really well. Very nice and delicate rose flavor too. Amazing!Cookies & cream:Very very mild flavor thats hard to taste due to the donuts overwhelming oily flavor. Meh.Milk & cereal:I dont really like fruity pebbles but I actually like this donut. The fruitiness of the cereal cancels out any oily flavor pretty well.Taro glazed:This was pretty good. This doesnt taste as oily as the regular donuts maybe because the dough has taro in it? I can barely barely taste any taro to be honest.-----Tips!Room temp is alright. Refrigerated completely removes chewy texture. Try baking them for a couple minutes to get everything nice and warm; it also pulls out the flavors really well.
Such a sweet bakery with rich and unique flavors. This is so different than traditional donuts, less sweet and more flavorful. The store is very small with no indoor or outdoor sitting area. They strictly follow the social distancing. No more than three people allowed inside. We went a Friday afternoon and there were only few people in front of us, however five minutes later a long lane formed behind us. They take limited online pickup orders. When we checked all the slots were sold out. We choose to walk in instead. All customers are required to wear a mask and signs are placed outside reminding customers. Once you are asked to go inside, credit card reader placed on a table far away from the cashier. They do not accept cash only credit card pay payments. After placing your order, you wait in a marked up space and once your items are packed you are asked to wait for them outside to pick up your order. The kitchen seemed small for the number of people who were working there. Donuts are baked fresh daily. They have ice creams and mochi donuts. We bought only mochi donuts. The flavors were delightful. There are plenty of parking spaces in front of the store.
Excellent service and the donuts are amazing. The Mochi is cooked perfectly and just the right amount of icing.
I had a pretty good overall experience here. Other than the shop running out of the flavors we originally wanted to get, the staff was friendly and followed COVID-19 guidelines. The shop itself is small, and like previously mentioned, they run out of flavors pretty quickly - get there early if you want to be guaranteed flavors you want to buy. The interior is simply aesthetic, though definitely not enough room to sit down and eat, though thats no problem though, just take your baked goods to go and eat in the car or take them home.Regarding the pastries themselves, the mochi donuts were quite crispy, and not too sweet - we could actually taste the flavors. These are definitely ones you can keep eating without stopping because of the fact theyre not sweet. Despite the far drive, Id definitely try and come again to try and snag other flavors - we only managed to get cereal and milk, Rose, and white chocolate.
Way better tasty options than Mochinut. Mochinut charges you more
Really good mochi donuts! Order came out as soon as I was finished paying!
I wanted to believe the hype so I went to the best mochi donut spot in town so that Id know what else I could compare other places to.Fill Bakeshop is located in Newport and does have its own parking lot. Its a bit confusing when you use your GPS so dont give up!I went here on a rather slow Wednesday afternoon. Thankfully because there was only one other person there, I didnt have to wait too long to order. There are a few items to offer, with the mochi donuts and their specialty ice cream being the most popular. The donuts are also made fresh daily and flavors will run out as the day goes along. Each donut is $2.60 and dont let the menu fool you... youre not actually saving money if you order more. My favorite donuts were the matcha white chocolate and the guava cheesecake. Out of everything to offer, the guava has the most distinct and delicious taste! I felt that the jasmine tea donut was very bland so if you want a basic donut but youre too scared of the flavors, that would probably be best. Strawberry shortcake and black sesame were also delicious. The only reason why I docked a star is because the service here is fairly slow. Even with just the one person in front of me, it took about 15 min for me to order the donuts and leave the store. Imagine how much worse it wouldve been when its busy!Other than that, definitely coming back here. I loved the experience and cant wait to see what else they have to offer.
I tried Fill Bakeshop for the first time on their two year anniversary. I underestimated how popular this place was and ended up waiting in line 1 hour and 20 minutes (I got there 10 minutes before they opened)! But oh were they worth the wait. I lived in Japan for a while so I know a thing or two about mochi doughnuts, and these are spot on! So mochi mochi. The salted potato chip was the best, unfortunately its not a regular flavor. But I do enjoy watching their Instagram for new flavors (like the pandan one, so good). I would recommend arriving a little bit before they open on the weekends to avoid the line. Parking is also fairly limited, so thats another reason to go early. I love this place and cant believe I waited so long to try it!

3 words to describe this place. OH MY HEAVEN! My friend bought these mochi donuts recently for me to try and Ive tried Ube donuts. I went wild. These donuts were super delicious. I was in heaven. My hubby and Ive drove passed by Krispy Kreme and there were always a long line every single day! When Ive finally got a donut from Krispy Kreme. I cant tell you how disappointed I was with their donuts and everyone were hyping up with them donuts where u can get these same donuts from cheap donut shop. But UBE doughnuts, is a whole another level and they were off the hook! The taste and the texture were perfect and I fell in love with them mochi donuts! You got to bring back those Thai Tea donuts because my friend said they were bomb. Ill be back for more!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
This place is extremely cute and delicious. I love everything about it! During COVID, they have outdoor seating which is a bit limited. Id recommend getting there off peak hours if possible. If youre not able to get a seat, there is a park close by.
Love love love these mochi donuts! When I first found out about mochi donuts I didnt think I would ever find these in SoCal until one day I saw it surface around IG. I will try to take time to stop by Fill whenever Im in the OC area.Ive tried the thai tea caramel, milk&cereal, guava, strawberry shortcake, chocolate coffee, and matcha. My favorite is the guava! Tangy and sweet just makes me want to eat a dozen of these! The chewy texture makes it more enjoyable to eat than regular donuts.I only come here on Saturdays and they definitely sell out of a lot of them by 3pm so going a little earlier wont hurt.
Delicious. I highly recommend this 👌
OMG OMG never had this good donuts in my life. This is a must!!!!When I went there were 5 flavors, I got all of them except the milk and cereal cuz Im not a fan of the fruit and pebbles.. got 4 of them to go and in the car, I tried a bite of each and...Guava cheesecake >>>>>> strawberry shortcake >>> macha white chocolate >> coffee & cookiesIt was after I had a huge lunch and they were still soooooo yummy! I finished more than half lolI totally recommend this place for mochi donuts! They r sooo chewy!! 😋 but little too pricy 😣
I lived in Honolulu and the taro donut is exactly same as one from Hawaii’s famous bakery.
Best mochi donuts I’ve ever had the flavors were super unique and fresh
In love with their mochi donuts! The malasadas arent too shabby either. I will admit I havent tried the ice cream yet but Im sure its good, it looks spectacular and the flavors are always really unique. Anyway, back to those DONUTS...there is a place in Korea called Mister Donuts with amazing mochi donuts and I always thought I had to go to Korea to get them...well now, I can just go down the road to Fill. They are so fluffy and always fresh. Its nice because if youre ordering more than 6 you can place your order ahead of time. They told me that they make these fresh every two hours, so Im assuming you might want to call ahead if youre going near closing because they may be out and you dont want to head all the way there only to be disappointed. And I mean you could get the ice cream, but when youre in the mood for one of these delectable dobuts- ice cream wont cut it. Anywho, the 4 flavors (strawberry, cereal- read fruity pebbles, matcha and I think Choco coffee?) that they currently offer are wonderful, but it would be amazing to see some new flavors eventually too! Please never stop carrying these donuts and never close, Fill Bakeshop!
The mochi donuts are fantastic. I would recommend ordering online to avoid the waiting. Only 1 person allowed in the shop at a time.
One of the best mochi donut places in Socal! Our favorite is the brownie and Taro! For a quicker and better options I would suggest ordering online for pickup!
10/10 recommend!!! Cutest bake shop in Costa Mesa. And the donuts are delicious🤤
Lets do this review in Pidgin, the local slang in Hawaii to make this review a little more light-hearted:Hoooo brah, was so excited go check dis place out! I grew up eating Tex Drive in Malasadas from Honokaa on Big Island HI. So ono (delicious)! So, I give props to dis place for having da Ono, but da one ting dey gotta work on? ALOHA! The braddah that rang me up & took my order mustve woke up on da wrong side of da bed. Just what do you want? And Is that all?No Hello, good morning no Hi how are you? He even held my box of pastries out to me when they were ready and GRUNTED at me Hey your order is ready. WOW. Sorry a customer is SUCH an inconvenience!Fine brah you like be li dat go ahead just give me my dochis, malasadas and coffee. At least da wahine dat brought out my coffee and creamer was nice and smiling! Now, the food is GREAT. Wonderful dough on both dochis and malasadas, interesting flavors, custard creamy fillings on the malasadas. Coffee was good too. I had flashbacks of drives to Kona as soon as I opened the box and the ono smell hit my nose.Da location is prime: clean, minimalistic, and tidy. But ALOHA, KINDNESS, and A GREETING go a long way with me. I wont go out of my way to go here, but if I am in the area Ill tolerate poor customer service for their goodies. They ARE that tasty lol.
Mochi donuts! They are chewy instead of your regular airy/fluffy donutsThey run out sometimes, so call in to see if they still have emI called in and they let me put them on holdThe strawberry shortcake one was my favorite flavorbut my bf loved and devoured them all! Will have to try the malasadas next time
Their Mochi Donuts are fantastic. The Melon and Rose was by far our favorites! Must try!
I heard donuts here are super popular, and decide to have a try. However, when ee tried to order on online, yelp and Google are showing theyre sold out. so we decided take our chance to drive 20 mins to walk in. It was 6:30, luckily they still have my favor. The cashier is super nice!! They even gave me extra donuts. And the donuts tasty great! They just made my day
Awesome mochi donuts but the line is pretty long. Wasnt nearly as impressed with their drinks so probably stick to the baked goods Id you come
Long wait times and poor customer service. There is a sign that says limit 3 dozen but no where does it say per party. We waited in line for almost an hour with multiple people in our party but they limited us to 3 dozen all together . So they were telling us whether you have 1 person or 100 you can only get 3 dozen even if we entered in smaller groups because we are all considered one party? And then our order came far later than other people behind us even though they all ordered the same 3 dozen. Not nice at all.
The best mochi donuts I have had outside of Hawaii. Best eaten right after pickup or the same day to get the crust crunch and the chewiness. Variety of flavors. Be prepared to wait and worth it!
Hands down the best texture and flavors for mochi donuts. Went on a Sunday and got there before line was too long, but had wait of 40 min. They have a set # of preorders but thats open only for week of since they do different flavors daily. So, it probably sells out quick. Line for preorder is definitely shorter. Parking isnt great on weekends in this strip mall as heres a sit down diner next door.Favorite flavors: matcha crunch, guava cheesecake, jasmine milk tea
Donuts are good, cookies not so great
Totally unique and delightful donuts and cookies. Guava cheesecake is a must try.
Love this place soo yummy and not that sweet its just amazing!! When stopping by make sure to be prepared of what your going to order they have a menu outside to make your decisions easier. But honestly all of them are just delicious
Very well done for mochi style doughnuts. We also tries one of each of their movlchi cookies today which were equally tasty. Yes, this is trendy. But, it is also delicious. Some though are overly sweet and they do sell out of daily flavors regularly, so get there early. Better yet, order online and reserve your picks. Pricey for doughnuts but worth some of that, i suppose.
The Fill Bakeshop is amazingly chewy and the flavors are bright, but not overwhelmingly sweet. We got the cereal, cookies n cream, and salted honey potato chip. They really did a fantastic job being able to create the different flavors .
The best Mochi doughnuts I have ever eaten. Wish they would keep the Hibiscus flavor year round. Maybe its a blessing in disguise because I would be eating everyday!
Great donuts and cookies
This is my favorite place to go for mochi donuts! The location is right next to Toast Costa Mesa, so Ill usually grab brunch there and grab a few donuts as dessert. I personally like the Vietnamese coffee flavor but theyre all delicious. The mochi isnt tough to chew or anything because its always made fresh. There is high demand for these donuts so there may be a small wait, but its definitely worth it! Parking in this area may be a bit difficult, but there is curbside pickup or you can park at the nearby walgreens briefly.
I was extremely lucky that my work brought two dozen of different variety mochi donuts from Fills! It was my first time having Fills mochi donuts and they are GAME CHANGER for the Mochi Donuts. I honestly think they perfected the mochi donut recipe. Their guava cheesecake and black sesame donuts are my absolute favorite. They dont feel too fried and the icing is pretty light! It definitely does not make you feel as guilty as the other mochi donuts on the market. The texture of the donuts is pretty light and airy overall, but still have that wonderful chewy bounce to it from the mochi! Overall so freaking delicious! Its really hard to not go here everyday during lunch!
They have great hey Siri and you could do men have them make custom made for any occasion
Their donuts are better then the cookies
The line to enter into the store was really long. I order online and I only had to wait for two people. Getting the mochi donuts through the online order line was efficient and fast. Some costed $2.10, $2.30, and $2.50. Pretty pricey but the quality was good. The fresh ones tasted best of course as the outside was slightly toasted and inside was soft and chewy.
Very delicious donuts
Hour long wait in the hot sun. The flavors offered were interesting and tasted good. But... The donuts are pre-made and therefore chewy. IMO Mochi donuts are better when made to order and served hot. I doubt Ill return.
Drove from San Diego for these delicious goodness❤
Try Their mochi donuts. Worth the trip and wait
Fill Bakeshop and Creamery is great! Perfect for a snack, dessert, or anytime actually. Very family friendly place. The flavors are vibrant and refreshing. Their donuts are a gem and their ice cream really is set apart from other creameries. Im not usually a sweets person but I can eat here nearly every day. They have a flavor for everyones liking. My fiancé and I bought 2 pints to-go to have some at home when we dont feel like going out and about. The owner has always gone above and beyond every time Ive come in to his shop - weve been coming here since he opened. I love this place and Im sure you will too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Delicious donuts!! The staff is great and super friendly
Friendly service! You are able to order online. Service is quick for walk in.
One of the best mochi donut shops as the texture is a good combination of mochi and traditional donuts. The cost is competitive among other donut shops as well. The line and wait can be fairly long as this place is quite popular so I suggest ordering online which is required at least a day or two in advance.
So good. Every flavor. Get all. Theyre easily cut/shareable.
Mochi Doughnuts....need I say more. Dont forget to take a picture of the donuts (spelled this way too) so you can remember which one is which. I only wish they opened earlier on weekdays (8am) so we could grab them for those early morning meerings!!
This place is tiny but the service is fast. I love their guava donuts and their cookies and cream donut. These mochi donuts are chewy and much more enjoyable than regular donuts. Definitely recommend you give this place a try.
Nasty owner. Tried to start a fight with and between customers. Service haphazard. Moshi donuts are not very flavorful and too much sugar on toppings. I was waiting in line when I saw the owner be rude to veterans. Hes pleasant looking but dont let the facade fool you. Hes a bullyRude to veterans and first responders. Contrary to advertisement, they did not give a free donut to first responder. Slow, very slow service.
Long overdue. I’ve never tried Hawaiian mochi donuts until this past March. Honestly where have this been all my life? These are definitely the best donuts ever. It’s so chewy in an amazing way and the favors are all so on point. This world is going thru such a crazy time right now but having these donuts 1-2x a week somehow makes my life less sad right now. Haha
Quick service, friendly staff, COVID conscious (mask + Distancing), and to top it off, the donuts are amazing, they arent frivolously decorated, but they are fashionable (lol), and very delicious.
Fantastic product, atmosphere and staff!! Ive never had a better time buying a donut - period. Highly recommend the guava cheesecake flavor, so good!
Tooooooooo sweet!
Flavors are okay but the texture is too dense and heavy unlike original mochi donuts.
These were great! Even better than the ones I would get in Hawaii. The fill in them is great and fun to watch them put in the fresh fill. Plain they are great too and the price is excellent. Oh and they have homemade ice cream there and it is awesome.
Great donuts
The donuts are quite good, but sometimes the wait can get pretty long.
I usually order from Fill Bakershop whenever Modo Hawaii is not in town. The donuts are in great quality, but not as warm as the other shop which made it a little bit soggier than Modo. However, the customer service was decent, and its not too hard to order like Modo. I think their Cookies and Cream donuts are the best. The berries one is too sweet, the mango is more sour than I thought, and the taro does not taste as great as the C&C one.
Oh my goodness! I just had these for the first time yesterday here at work, and these are the delicious! I had the chocolate fill type. You have me hooked now! Your business is close to my work, so you know I will be stopping by today after work!
