I hardly write reviews but I couldn’t resist! I’m brand new to film cameras and have know idea how to work a film camera. The employees that helped me were so welcoming and helpful. The store was very busy and the employee was still willing to stick with me and show me how to use the camera and gave me some pointers as well. Everyone there is passionate about photography. I will definitely continue to go there for my film needs!
4 years after I bought a flash light stand, I needed some parts for it as the screw became loose and I lost them. I called mpex store and Mike patiently listened to even though he was already on his way to lunch. He then suggested me to wait for a day to get parts. Later he shipped them free of charge. Such a great customer service! This is customer obsession at its best.
This place - a hidden gem in the Columbus area!!! Im from much closer to Cleveland but I wanted to get my body/lens combo calibrated and this place was the only place I could find. The staff were amazing! Genuinely helpful and knowledgeable. The store is plenty big enough. Check out their smoke grenades while youre there! They were very honest and gave me great advice for what the service I came in for. They actually recommended going a different route, because it was a better option for me. If youre new or experienced, check them out. They seem to have a ton of regular customers and have been in business for many years from my understanding, and Im sure that wont change soon!
I am very new to photography and everyone on this staff has been helpful and parent with me. They have spent so much time helping me understand my purchase and what Im investing in. By far the most amazing this they have done was send me a personalized video on how to set up my c-stand with boom arm kit. I was getting very frustrated on my own, but as soon as I called, Matt answered the phone and helped me out. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING TEAM!
The place was busy on a Tuesday morning which is a good sign. They have lots of cameras and supplies. The staff was very friendly and helpful and easy to find. I stopped in for a camera sensor cleaning, and they did it reasonably fast considering that I just walked in.
Andy and Anna were incredibly helpful today helping me learn more about my XT4 and about the flash on my camera. They spent more than a half hour with me with no pressure to buy anything. But of course, I’ll be back. I just want to go home and review the items we discussed before I make a purchase. I have bought several of my cameras there and every time the staff is always very helpful and willing to help with any questions I may have kudos to Midwest Photo for hiring such excellent staff. Thank you very much!
I came in on a Saturday morning and was greeted by everyone in the store. I was having problems with my automatic focus. The kind lady with blue hair asked if she could have a look. Turns out that one of the settings had been changed and she reset it and all was good! She was very kind and was great to talk to. I wish I had more time to look around and will definitely come back! Thank you for the positive experience!!
We’ve been shopping at Midwest for over 15 years. They have basically been our go-to for all our photography needs while growing our business. Sonnie is always helpful and never pushy with sales. I’ve taken film developing classes with Mat and loved those, as well. Midwest is just a “great all around” local business to support photographers in so many ways!
After ten years multiple cameras purchased through them; I sell cosmetics, they questioned how “relevant” our partnership might be if I gave them free samples; If it is that difficult to maintain a relationship you shouldn’t be in business; Art should bring dignity to people not shame; no man or woman is an island
The staff went above and beyond in every way, all while having the best attitude! We will definitely use them again!
Literally most helpful staff ever! I was there for 3 hours and got constant help and they were always patient and understanding.Amazing selection of used lenses and cameras too! Oh, and renting a lense is like 70 bucks for a weekend, so thats awsome👍
I love Midwest! They are my go-to resources when I am buying new equipment!! I also love renting from them, either to try out a new piece of equipment before I purchase it, or if I dont want to purchase something, but I want it for an occasional shoot.
Listed Tamron 18 - 300mm Sony E mount lens in stock on website.Let me purchase and pay. Later received email item is NOT in stock but is on order.Really poor business practice to list item in stock, accept payment and only later advise product not available.
Customer service is the best but sadly they have low to no stock on the things i wanted
I had a small, small job that was incorrectly done by another business. They were super nice and were able to help me out while I stood there!
Midwest photo is great! From the moment I walked in, I was helped and the customer service wasnt the pushy kind, they wanted to inform and teach me about my options for lighting. I bought a large paper roll for a background and rented one of the lighting options they recommended and though it didnt work exactly for my purposes, Ill definitely be back! Overall great people and a big place too!
I called asking for help and a potential referral for my camera problem. The person I talked with began bashing another business almost right away and I feel that is so unkind. Camtronics is a good establishment but because of the negativity of the remarks made against them I dont know I can recommend this establishment. We all have a place in this city.Donna
Super helpful staff, great selection of film with competitive prices
This shop makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. Also the staff and management is really great! There was an issue I had with a memory card and they worked with me to recover important footage. Can’t thank them enough!!
Our go-to place for camera equipment purchase or rental. Small but chalk full of lighting, bags/cases, lens, camera bodies, tripods, memory cards, frames, printers, etc. - great finds for both a photographer and videographer.Give me a shopping spree here and Id be in heaven!
Always have had good experiences here for my wifes photo business. She had sold and bought equipment here a few times and rented equipment which have always been easy processes. Everyone weve talked to has been extremely knowledgeable as well and very professional. Would highly recommend for anyone in the visual communications field.
Had product I needed and excellent service
Best camera shop Ive been to in the Midwest! The staff is EXTREMELY helpful and they have so much gear. I really miss perusing the collection. If youre into photography do yourself a favor and even just window shop!
ROCKSTAR STAFFDecided to pop in here as opposed to shopping online and its WORTH IT! Insanely knowledgable staff, and the BEST costumer service experience EVERYTIME..... Lots of CAPITALS because lots of AWESOME!Lifelong customer - Gracie / Cheyenne / Tom 👌10/5 stars!
MWP is the only place I go for anything camera related! Staff is always knowledgeable and beyond helpful whether youre new to cameras or a pro photographer.
I was in desperate need of a flash that they had in stock. I ordered it at 10am and was delivered to my house at 2pm the next day. Extraordinary service.
Great place for a beginner like myself and my sales rep Aaron wasvsuper helpful!
Best place for cameras and equipment in Cbus
Always a professional, friendly, knowledgeable staff to help guide your purchasing options. I have been a devoted customer for decades and will continue my purchasing from them even though I am moving out of the area. I highly recommend them as your complete photo/video/large format supplier.
Great staff, knowledgeable and personable.
My favorite camera store in the Columbus area. The entire staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Its obvious that they enjoy their work and are passionate about photography. Nobody has ever tried to upsell me - they care about finding the product that will best meet my needs. This store has a huge selection of cameras, lenses, and accessories (including film). They cater to amateurs and professionals. Their rental department is amazing - Ive used them several times. They also offer classes and other learning events. Their printing service is high quality and priced competitively. In short, I have no complaints.
Another great visit!!! Sonnie is EXTREMELY knowledgeable, and very honest about products before you make an investment; because thats exactly what it is!! I ended up buying a different lens and have an idea for another. I will ALWAYS be supporting this business, because the staff is as professional and personable as it gets!! Thanks Sonnie!
Midwest photo is a great shop to visit and shop. They have all the latest cameras and even some great used items.
The employees truly want to help their customers. They exude the upmost respect, patience + guidance to finding you what you need. Their advice is always teaches me something new. Taylor was amazing help with finding my next lens! Thank you!
Great experience! T.J. helped me with my rental and with the questions I had. Super cool guy. Highly recommend this place!
Havent been to Midwest Photo since they were located in Clintonville, but their new space is awesome!Taylor was incredibly helpful and all the staff I encountered were pleasant and knowledgeable. Would recommend over all the big chain stores like best buy.Keep up the good work!
Best place to buy camera equipment. Very knowledgeable staff, great selection and excellent prices. The only place Ill buy from. They have all the answers to your photography questions. Excellent place to take classes.
Excellent camera store.Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.Wide array of rentals available.Highly recommend them.
They have a wide selection of new and used equipment in all price ranges. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.
Great place !!! Shiann helped us and she was AMAZING !!! Very knowledgeable and personable. Excellent experience.
High quality print reproduction and enlargement at walk-in brick and mortar is harder and harder to come by these days. I dont care for mail order because you hardly ever know what youre getting. When I went to Midwest Photo for digital image enlargement, I didnt know exactly what I wanted and I was in a hurry; in other words, I was a potential customer from hell. The staff here is incredibly professional and helpful. I described what I wanted and staff member Ethan answered all of my questions, showed me sample stock and explained differences, explained what the optimal enlargement for my digital image would be, and professionally packaged the results. The enlargements are perfect. I could not have asked for better service and Im so pleased. I plan to return here again and again for any service they provide that I need.
I first went to this place when it was in an old church on High Street. The older gentleman who ran it then was extremely kind and knowledgeable, and it left a great impression on me. So recently, when I decided to return to my hobby of film photography, I sought out this place to pick up supplies for my new (to me) Minolta. The new facilities are clean and well organized, compared to the previous location, and there are plenty of supplies for both film and digital photography. And reasonable prices. There are also more staff than I remember, and the man who helped me was very friendly and seemed to know what hes doing. Apparently, the former owners son is now running the place, and I think hes done a good job updating the business, including a new website where you can place orders. The new location isnt as hip as the former location, but this is a good example of a local business that deserves our support.
UPDATE [2017]I’m not sure if it’s because I complained a while ago but for the last year or so I’ve received good to incredible service. The staff has specialized knowledge so instead of expecting each person to be able to answer your questions, try asking “Who should I talk to about ____?” and they will introduce you to an expert who can speak passionately about the topic or product. They’ve redone their website so it’s way easier to navigate. Overall, their new building, staff, and site have improved the quality of my customer experience and I’m no longer hesitant to endorse their services.[2015] Awful customer service! Disorganized website and links. The staff is often misinformed and rude. On their best days, they are apathetic and lethargic. I wish I didnt have to use them but they have a monopoly on Columbus photography equipment. If they just gave one damn about any customer, I would instantly give them 2 more stars. Ive been in the store dozens of times over the past 4 years and Ive only been greeted once! It insane that these people are in business.
Very knowledgeable, helpful and kind staff. Everyone really knows their stuff and exhibit much interest in helping their customers. Theyre always offering suggestions and their honest feedback. There are products here for amateurs and professionals alike.
Great customer service 👏
The definition of product experts!! The most friendly staff of any business I have ever been in!! The vendor events are awesome and a great experience. Being able to speak directly to Sigma, Nikon, Canon etc., is very cool! The classes they offer are immensely beneficial, I honestly have nothing negative to say. Its a photographers playground.
Great selection and the employees are always helpful!
I bought an item from Midwest through online order, shipping and communication was prompt, will not hesitate to do business with them again.
The store is nice with many new and used options. Ethan was very helpful and knowledgeable.
Huge thank you to TJ for his excellent customer service. Based on my experience, I would recommend Midwest Photo to buyers who want to know they can shop with confidence.
Great place to buy photographic equipment
Went over for the first time and was really impressed with the entire store from the selection of equipment to customer service. Matt was super helpful and the entire store had almost everything you could want including lots of vintage stuff as well. I usually dont write reviews but this is an exception. Will definitely be returning next time Im in town.5/5
Overall a good local place, BUT make sure you open the box and check everything to make sure you are buying new vs. demo or returned. I trusted them on a recent purchase ( was in a hurry) and sure enough, camera lenses and accessories had all been opened, possibly used? Email went unanswered. I’ll know better next time.
I needed a last minute rental while in town photographing a wedding. I called Midwest and spoke with TJ. I explained my dilemma to him and while he had other customers in the store and politely asked to give me a call back. TJ called me after the store had already closed for the day to help me out. Even being from out of town he wanted to make sure I was set up to succeed and work out where I was able to ship back the rental since I was returning home on Sunday when they are closed. When I went to pick up the rental I was greeted and helped by Aaron. The whole team at Midwest Photo has a great attitude and were very willing to help out.If you need help with anything camera or video and you are within driving distance of Midwest Photo I highly recommend this place.
Always have the parts I need, Always great experience, Always helpful with everything I need
This place is always a great place to run camera equipment. The COVID policies they put into place are really simple, keeps everyone safe and doesnt hinder the process of renting or purchasing equipment.
Fantastic, easy in and out without a problem! Amazing friendly staff that is eager to help anyway they can!
Good customer service lot of brands
Steph is literally the best. 1000% the person to go to and ask for. Shes found find to hard items and hooked me up with stuff more times than I can count. Other places have good customer service, but Steph single handily has me coming back to Midwest Photo over and over again. Shes not just an employee anymore, shes a friend. I have super high expectations for gear, and Ive grown to totally trust her. If theres a hard to find used lens Im looking for, she reserves it for me as soon as it comes in the store. Not only that, but shell personally clean, test, and inspect the lens for me before I come in to test and see it. B&H, Amazon, or Best Buy going to do that for you? No, I didnt think so. If you want the best, go see Steph!
I love the professionalism of the staff! And the rentals are great if you need a lens last minute.
Great selection and helpful staff.
Super helpful staff, Tom was really knowledgeable and really broke things down for us so that we understood what we were purchasing. He was respectful of our budget and was never condescending, just explaining so that we know what we were getting. And to top it all off, he recommended a great place for lunch since we were starving after driving over an hour to get to the shop! Really nice place to shop.
One of the worst online shopping experiences. I believe now i know why bhphoto is a success and they are not. I made my first online order with them and they committed on shipping before 3pm ET, until next day its not shipped, tried sending an email to support which goes unanswered. Imagine you paying $35 for next day arrival and these people not keeping their promise of even shipping, forget the delivery. Next morning i called and seems half their staff isnt aware of the online order process itself, not even an apology to say that although they commit same day shipping they do not do it.Anyways finally in my second call i got to talk to a lady, who says its possibly a fraudulent transaction and its my first online order with them so they are un sure, i asked them if i can provide my id, my address proof and payment proof (please note payment was through paypal) and she says that does not help, I checked with them how do people make their first order and she does not have an answer, upon requesting to talk to a supervisor i learnt he is busy with important stuff and cant talk. Anyways couple of hours later and wasting a lost of my time they sent an email that they cancelled the order. I called again to talk to supervisor and was willing tk give a second try on order as item was costing less with them due to no taxes. But the gentleman who picked the phone this time, although he was a pleasant guy to talk to and apologetic, he was un sure of what i can do to make sure that my order goes through, upon requesting to talk to supervisor, i again learnt that he was busy with something and would return my call shortly, which did not happen, anyways ordered with B&H around 4pm est and item will be delivered by fedex by 10.30qm tomorrow at $18. So yes, lesson learnt that although b&h charged by qpprox $70 in taxes, however the shipping being halved and their service and cuatomer centric behavior is something that every business should learn from.I would suggest anyone to not try to get answers from these guys, its not worth your time and put a little extra $$ for a good service.
I went in not looking to buy anything just get some information on where I might need start at for getting a camera. Matt Seal helped me out and started explaining what was best for what Im looking to do and unloaded a plethora of knowledge onto me and helped me out a great deal. I walked out of there with a Nikon FM10 and better educated on photography than I could have ever imagined and excited to start photographing with confidence.
Service here is great as always, friendly and helpful staff. Came in to pick up a speed light and after saying what I wanted, Katie ran to the back and hand it in my hands within the minute. Had a nice chat about camera gear and I was on my way. Im from about 2 hours away and its worth the drive to shop here.
Great products. Staff could be more helpful. Went back and customer service was much improved. They were extremely helpful and showed me numerous features of my new camera.
I live across the country, but save my camera gear shopping till Ill be in the area. These folks know what they are talking about and have personally used the equipment they sell. Im working into some new areas in photography, and I really appreciate the time they take explaining options and making recommendations. They could have sold me more expensive equipment, but instead sold me what I need. I really appreciate it.
Excellent service! Rentals include an additional day to pickup and return. Also got excellent advice mid-rental helping me fix my photography mistakes to get sharper photos. Great selection as well!
I had a number of old, older and Vintage Cameras from my Familys Past so I took them in to see if anything I had would be worth anything. The very friendly and knowledgeable staff sorted through my equipment and although what I brought in wasnt worth anything, Now I know what to keep as a shelf piece and what to part with! Thankyou to the staff!📷📸
All of the people here have been more than helpful. We purchased our items without any consultation and attempted to set up on our own and had a difficult time, the people of Midwest photo did everything in their power to help us out. They walked us though how to set up, how to trouble shoot and when it came down to it we needed a completely different product that what we had bought. They worked with us during the exchange process to make a super smooth transition and now we have a new product that is easy to work with and works amazingly!Thank you for all of your help!
Great customer service from knowledgeable and helpful staff, diverse equipment options and selections. Wide variety of quick large prints. Wide variety of rental equipment with affordable pricing. In-and-out parking! Plus buy sell trade ideal for all levels and types of photographers.
Been going here for over 10 years for all my camera needs. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, best selection of equipment in the area.
Great people great service. Had an issue with bank and they were patient as I worked it out and even assisted how they could. Appreciate this store.
I really like this place.
Of all the Midwest Photos, this one by far is my favorite.
A great place to visit. Whatever your needs in photography.
Midwest is awesome!!! Me and my wife have been renting and buying from this company for many years now and never had any issues. Their staff, especially in the rental department are amazing people and very helpful! Highly recommended!!
The staff were very helpful and fast. I am taking a photography class and needed a camera. I know nothing about photography but I was in and out of the store in no time with their help. I only wanted the bare minimum for what the class required and am so relieved that they worked with me to just get what I needed without trying to sell me anything else.
Ive been in a few times and the staff is knowledgeable and patient - allowed me to handle gear and provided some insights. I havent regretted the gear Ive bought from here. My favorite photo/video place in Columbus.
Great staff and service. They are enthusiastic about photography and it shows. Nice selection of new and vintage cameras and accessories
I went there with the express intention of buying a Nikon Lens. The store was worth the trip up from central Columbus. It’s well stocked and spacious. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly... I got my lens and a few other things .. we talked ..it was a good time. If you are a studio photographer just coming into Columbus... they have printing available And a nice selection of lighting gear with plenty of Light Box gear to suit your needs along with static lights and flash units too.
In a fit of confusion, I left home without some very important gear. The sales guy was understanding, helped me find what I needed very quickly and got me on my way back to my shoot location. Thanks!
I have shopped here many times now, their prices are very reasonable and the customer service is second to none they always make me feel like I’m the most important customer they have!
Very nice shop. Really helpful associates. They were able to look up when they last had used lenses of the type I am looking for and the prices they had listed at the time. Compared a few and talked over my work with the associates.Learned a bit, saw a lot, wish they had what I wanted so I could have bought something to support them.If I lived in Columbus, they would be my go-to camera shop.
Love this store. Everyone has always been super helpful. Best camera store in Ohio
If youre renting/trading or buying photo gear this is the best place around. Ive had to visit shops like this on shoots in states all over and this is by far the best experience Ive had.Recently went in for a big shoot with a very high rental price tag and they walked me through the whole process, helped load up my car, and even got me set up so in the future it would be even easier.I will absolutely be back
Been in several times over the past months and it was a great experience every time. These guys are down to earth and know what theyre talking about. Its fun to geek with them over gear, but when you have a question theyre honest and help you out. Also purchased a quality used lens from them, which I normally wouldnt do. But these guys can be trusted for sure.
Great customer service. Offers many classes for all levels on an array of topics. Definitely the central hub for photography, videography, and everything between. Prices are usually better than other stores and they have more than enough helpful friendly staff available to help you at any time.
Best place to go for photography needs
Such an amazing class! Took the Photo 101 class and I feel so ready to go out and shoot on my own now. Cant wait to take 102! Matt and Gracie were so helpful, knowledgeable, and hands on! The class was very laid back and open, questions were encouraged constantly. Matt made many jokes and kept the mood very upbeat. Hes very passionate, experienced, and enthusiastic about photography. Will be back again and again! (:
Just wanted to give a shout out to Midwest and especially to Mat. I learned more from him in 15 minutes about my D850 than I was able to figure out on my own in 9 months. I was also able to pick up a new camera strap and Think Tank case. It was well worth the day trip. I only wish I had done it sooner.
Ken is the real MVP. I shot an event that was very important to a family. The day I was transferring the files I saw them on my camera, plugged the cf card to my computer and a bunch of random folders populated with weird characters. . I used wondershare recovery program which was overpriced at 80 and it didnt do anything but recover corrupted files that when I opened only appeared black. Ken not only recovered my files but did a process to get them converted into high quality jpegs, and not only at work but during his own time at home. Thank you Ken, your care and authentic concern will be rewarded one day.
Ive been a customer for the past few years and I have to say the the staff at Midwest Photo are the greatest! They are very knowledgeable when it comes to their products and give excellent customer service. So glad we have them in Columbus!!
Experienced staff. Great selection of camera and videographer equipment for all price points. Great local establishment for everything imaging!
Midwests new location is right off 71 at Weber. Its an incredible expansion for a really fantastic local store. Theyve got anything you could need for photography, be it digital, video or print, and their staff is second to none. Not only are they incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, but theyre friendly, real people who are excited about sharing their love of photography. Not a single person on staff is unwilling to help, regardless if youre there for a $5000 camera or $5 lens cloth.Plus, with the new expansion theyve added a really fantastic classroom area for their great classes. They offer classroom learning for beginners and experts alike, sharing the latest techniques and tricks to make your photos go from good to great. They also now have a rentable darkroom which is great when you want to dust off your old film camera and shoot a few rolls to bring back the glory days of photography!!Their prices are great. Their staff is amazing. Their store is accessible and clean. Before you shop online, go to Midwest!!
I popped in over the weekend for the first time ever and was happy to see this place packed. Its nice to see a local camera shop still going. I came back later in the week and was helped by Mat. He really helped me get what I needed without useless overspending. Id choose this place over online anytime.
