My husband used to peruse their shop, but at a previous location and about 28 years ago. Today, he introduced me to this treasure hunt of a gem. So much to find and such excellent prices! Give yourself plenty of time. You will need it. Not only for the thousands upon thousands of titles that you will find, but also for the extra time needed for some of the stacks that you will ultimately want to shift through. You may need an assistant by your side, as some of the stacks can be a bit precarious and the occasional avalanche is bound to happen. The owner is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Dont hesitate to ask questions.Be prepared! Cash or check payment, only.Looking forward to going back!
I told my son when we walked in that I felt like I was having a mild heart attack over how magical this place is. If you are a bibliophile and have never been to this store, you really need to find some time to go. There are so, so, so many antique books there too, which I adore. I found, among other treasures, a 1906 illustrated French copy of a George Sand novel and immediately bought it, obviously. I will definitely be back to this store again. *Make sure to bring cash or check!*
Great place to find interesting old medical textbooks. Owner was very friendly and the price was fair. Definitely will be back.
Been coming here forever to get lost in the stacks. Locally run, independent, friendly place with more books to scan than you have days in all your summers to come. Always able to find something new. So many different sections - something for everyone. Local treasure, books priced very well, a ton of valuable gems waiting to be brought home. Some living history. Cash or check only.
Its a lovely place owned by lovely people! I never leave empty handed or unhappy, and this is truly a treasure trove!
Wonderful store for book lovers! I was able to find stuff by a lot of more specific authors I usually don’t find at any other stores. Plus there’s just so many books...definitely will be coming back again and again(Like others said - only takes cash)
Wonderful owner. I found everything I was looking for and more.
Saw online that a book Ive been desperately wanting was available. I emailed to confirm that it was there and less than two hours later, after calling to schedule an appointment, I was out the door of the store with a book in my hand. A wonderful place to browse and check out, great staff. 10/10!
Was not open by appointment only but never answered the phone.
They have more books than space. But that just adds to the charm. Don’t come in and expect to find exactly what you’re looking for in 5 mins. It’a an experience. You get to dig through piles of books and discover titles that you didn’t even know you were looking. It’s a book lovers paradise! Karen is also very knowledgeable about books and she gave me a 10 min university quality lecture about Raymond Chandler’s contemporaries.FYI, they only take cash and the closest ATM I could find was the one in Kroger’s which was a 5 min walk.
We drove an hour to this place and it was closed during its normal business hours. No explanation posted or anything.
They have more intresting book
Decent selection of books, assuming you can find them. It looks like a book hoarders dream inside, which makes it hard to shop. A lot of stuff is pretty overpriced given the condition, and it is cash only. All transactions are done by hand on a paper sales slip, so checkout is really slow. Still, I found a near pristine paperback I had been looking for to complete a collection, and was happy to buy it. Until the cashier tried to send me out the door without the book after Id just paid for, and then half shut it in the cash register because he didnt see it sitting right in front of him.Let me reiterate that. He shut my pristine 17 YEAR OLD PAPERBACK in the register. Frankly, if Id paid more for it I would have demanded my money back since he mangled the cover, but it wasnt worth the fight. Its easier to just never go back. Very unhappy. I really wouldnt recommend this store, which me sad given how hard it is to even find small bookstores nowadays.
Cash Only!! Thats the reason for only 4 Stars. My 16 year old grandson found this book store and begged me to take him. I was so Glad I did, it is a Great place to spend the day. They have books from newer ones to very Old ones. There Definitely is something for everyone. The people there are very helpful and friendly. When you have some free time, stop in you might find something you didnt know you wanted to read.
Wonderful selection. I dont mind the stacks. I have found some of my best treasures in the piles of books not shelved yet. Prices are fair you get what you pay for. I purchased a paperback signed by President Gerald Ford it was quite worn but the autograph was real what a great find at a great price.
Im taking a star off because of how disorganized parts of the store are. You will find stacks upon stacks of books, but no real order at times. I love the amount of books there are, but not being able to find things at times, is what often keeps me away.
Book wanderers dream, just need to have a fair amount of time to look over what they have. Was able to get Alcott Little Women!
I am a bibliophile, and this place really hits the sweet spot for a quiet tome filled room to explore. So many books. Karen makes her best effort in keeping most areas of interest sorted by title or author, however, the amount of books that she carries unfortunately tends to spill around the shelves and into any open space that can fit them. This is NOT a bad thing, as chances are you will find something that no other bookstore, library, or even Amazon has.Bring cash, as Karen does not take credit or debit cards. Some rarer titles may be priced market-rate. Dont be afraid to do a little light barter as well.
Great selection on almost all subjects. The atmosphere is great, friendly faces abound. Like many others stated, the prices can be a bit high, but it depends on the book. You can find many books here for a great price. If you’re looking for out-of-print, vintage, or rare books in general, there is a great selection, but a higher price is to be expected. I don’t think they are necessarily overpriced. There are also two seperate doors to enter. Each is a portal to a different realm of Karen Wickliff-Books. Also, bring paper money.
I purchased a book on the 23rd of December and they walked it to post office that evening so I would have it by the end of the week. The staff is awesome and very courteous and I would recommend this store to anyone passing through Columbus.
Fantastic! Filled to the brim with books and perfect for a booklover but its easy to get lost in the books and spend hours there
I ordered a book online from this store and was so impressed. The book came in great condition, on time and with shipping updates. I wish I lived in Columbus to go to actual store but I Highly recommend any of their online services!!!!!!! Thank You!!
This place is really neat. Ive never seen so many used books. Me and my little brother spent over an hour in here. Everything is priced cheap. For everyone who complains about prices should remember this is a small business. They have to make money to stay open! Support local. Will stop in here when I am around the area for sure.
Really cozy book store, there is nothing you wont find here!
Great atmosphere being surrounded by towers and twisty mazes of old books.
Comprehensive collection of used books on many subjects. I have found quite a few rare, out-of-print, books here.
I love going here even if I dont end up getting anything. Books are stacked everywhere. Its cash only and can be bit overpriced but all in all a great atmosphere!
Visited many times. Lots of books to choose from. Good selections of History, Language, Travel, Art, Music, etc. You could spend eternity in here.
Lots of books but absolutely no order to it. Does not take credit cards.
Ive been going to Karen Wickliffs for decades, whenever Im in town. Always had a nice time and was treated very nicely.
A very unusual sight these days, a large used bookshop. If you dont mind giant stacks or books everywhere youll have a lot of fun digging for treasure. The only downside for me are the stacks of books that block other stacks so I cant discover all that the store has to offer.
A book hounds paradise. Bring cash.
A lovely place to find old books.
Amazing store, smells amazing, like old books, best smell in the world XD
Beautiful bookstore and the disarray makes it a real place. may it live many more years
The indignant older lady I tried to sell books to was gruff and unpleasant. She looked at me like I was a turd. Go to Half Price Books.
Huge selection on a wide variety of subjects. Friendly owner and staff. A rare gem!
Best antique and used bookstore in Columbus. Great selection of books.
Do u guys buy used books and DVDs
The way a used bookstore should be, a treasure trove.
Go here and get lost in the amazing collection of books.
Totally unique place!
