I had an exceptional experience, as usual. I brought my bike in for a tune-up, the associate was so kind, polite and informative. Later I called in to get an update and once again the associate was very kind. I got a text message informing me my bike was done and went to pick it up the next day. The owner gave the bike a last check to make sure everything was good and adjusted my seat which totally has changed my riding experience!I appreciate this business, I like how the shop is always so calm even though I know they are busy. The owner is always working and it makes this big city seem small to me. I wish there were more places like this.If you want someone to work on your bike that knows what theyre doing, appreciates detail, and isnt interested in ripping you off, then go to Baer.
If I could rate this place as 0 I would they had my deceased brothers mongoose bike for 7 months and lied 10 times over the phone about restoring the bike and still nothing so we picked it up today completely takin apart. We also spent alot of money on a new paint job somewhere else witch looks amazing but they had the handles takin off and just layed on the body not in a box with foam or anything protecting the paint job. Completely unprofessional.
After an exhausting search for a new bike in the midst of Covid-related shortages, I was happy to discover that Baer Wheels had many steel-frames in stock. Mr. Baer recommended a Surly Straggler, and he had one my size in the box. He told me it would take him a week to assemble it.I gave him my contact info and left.A week later, I called to check on his progress. He told me he’d have it done that same evening and give me a call. Another week passed and no word. Miffed at being lied to and noticing that a lot of his negative reviews mention broken deadlines, I resumed my search and found the same bike at a shop in Minneapolis, which I would be visiting a couple weeks later.Still no word from Baer Wheels, not that it matters at this point. He was right about the Straggler: I am very happy with it. The guy knows his bikes. Too bad the follow-through was lacking.
Update 10/2/23. I retrieved my bicycle (in pieces) today. I entered the store and told him I was there to pick up my bike and he said it was still in the stand. I said I want the pieces. 14 months is enough.. He asked that I leave the bike (until this afternoon - ya right) to allow him to complete repairs. I declined. He did provide repairs and service gratis which was small consolation. At the end of our conversation he asked that I delete my reviews and complaints. I feel this is HIGHLY inappropriate and told him I would not.Original reviewAvoid this business at all costs. If you want to avoid the long winded message below: It has taken over a year and my bicycle repairs are still not completed. Communication has been terrible and generally non-existent. For the gory details, feel free to continue reading. In August of 2020 I engaged with Baer wheels to have some repairs completed on my bicycle after being hit by a car. I received an estimate and an initial timeframe of 2-3 months. After 6 weeks and no communications from Baer I reached out for a status. I was told that Baer would follow up with the folks performing the carbon repair and he would get back to me. A month went by and no response so I followed up again. And again. And again. A similar refrain was provided that Baer would follow up and then I wouldnt get a response. In late December after another call and mounting frustration, Baer did offer the use of a loaner bike. However, I didnt have the size I needed off the top of my head (he had my only bike) so he needed to look and would get back to me. Yet again, no response and with the holidays I wasnt as proactive as I could have been.I then began my regular monthly follow ups beginning again in January and when I was able to get him on the phone I would get the same response. In February Baer decided to close his shop for a month to reorganize inventory, so the answering machine stated. No calls, no communicationFinally, in May of 2021 (9 full months after dropping my bike off) I got fed up and texted (now the preferred form of communication per his answering machine). I stated I would begin filing escalating complaints if I didnt get a response. This time, he did respond. The explanation was that his carbon repair people came down with COVID and were out of commission for a while. He finally had my frame back and would have it completed in 2 weeks. I went into the store 2 weeks later and, lo and behold, my bike was still not done. He said he would call me as soon as it was done.Following this I again started my monthly follow ups and have yet to get Baer to answer the phone, respond to texts, or respond to formal complaints I have filed with the Better Business Bureau. Maybe I will have better luck filing complaints with the state attorney consumer protection agency (although I doubt it).Im taking a risk in writing this review in that I still (now over a year and counting) do not have my repairs completed. As I said in my first line, avoid this company at all costs. It has been a truly awful experience and one I hope to enlighten others on so they dont make the same mistakes I did.
2 and a half months ago we brought 2 bikes in for service - one for a complete tune, the other for a derailleur adjustment. When we originally gave him 2 bikes to fix, he said he would have the derailleur adjustment done in a few hours. We gave him a few days.. texted him, no response. Called, no answer. The store was closed so we couldn’t go in. Finally managed to get ahold of the bike after 2 weeks of trying to follow up. “Oh yeah that’s been done for a while” - he said as I picked the bike up.2nd bike took 2 and a half months for a complete tune when we were originally told it would be a few weeks. When it was ready, no phone call. And when we eventually just showed up to ask about it, we were told that bike had been ready for a while too. He originally warned us that he was busy with a lot of bike repairs, but giving us poor time estimates and not letting us know when they were finished was very frustrating. I understand that the shop was busy and understaffed, but the customer service was suffering as he continued to pile on new business he wasn’t prepared to handle.
Very responsibly priced. Very nice people.
My bike was repaired by David Baer. He did a really great job. My bike use to have a crooked back tire and the bike needed maintenance badly. Now it drives like new and it looks better! 🚵♀️
Good service handled a cold welded crank set lol
Small business, so we love supporting them. We had to wait 2 weeks for another customer to decide which bike she wanted to purchase before we could buy the other one. I texted the store and finally got the word that we could come get it. Because of the amount of service work theyre doing, theyve closed the sales floor. So I texted when we got there. Unfortunately the person I texted with didnt let the guy there know that we were coming tonight. We had to wait about an hour while be serviced someones bike. Then we were able to purchase the bike, took it to the car and the guy realized the bike hadnt been tightened down. So he took it back off the rack and back inside to tighten everything down. Its for my daughter so Im grateful that he noticed and took care of it while we were still there. The kid is outside riding her new bike and is a very happy. 😀
Awesome service, love the shop and how they run it. Dave is who helped my son and gave him a great price to have his bike fixed. Great store to go to I recommend everyone to go to this bike shop. And if your getting your bike fixed they are so chill and talk to u and try to make conversation. A 10/10 shop it is for me. Best shop in town
FANTASTIC service and a great supply of parts and supplies. I called looking for a bottom bracket wrench, since most shops had a two week waitlist for repairs, and Dave wound up getting me in and out in half an hour, the same day, all for about $10 in labor (instead of $50 of buying my own tools). HIGHLY recommended!
Great service, very knowledgeable staff
I have been relying on other bike shops and online stores to get parts and tools for years, so I have seen a lot of prices. When I checked out Baer Wheels today, I was very surprised at how reasonable the prices are, even for labor and services. I think its my new go-to place for all cycling stuff. Had the cleats for my pedal, spokes, bearings, everything I needed to get back on the road. Thanks a ton, Baer!!
This place is great. Twice in 1 week they saved my bacon. I have an early 90s bike i love and Baer Wheels always goes the extra mile to help me keep it rolling. Thanks guys!
I brought my single speed build in because I needed some questions answered and I was a novice builder. I had the luck to have Steven help me. He was both knowledgeable, professional and very generous with his time. In the end, I didn’t even buy anything but felt like I had been treated as if I had just purchased a $2000 bike. Incredible customer care.
We have purchased 3 Jamis bikes from Baer Wheels in the past few months and I highly recommend them. Not only are the bikes great, but the service was outstanding! Dave took the time to personally fit me with the right bike, and he customized the seat and handlebars to the perfect angle for how I ride. They are very knowledgeable and can put you on a great new bike!
I recently got a bike from a friend that needed a new wheel and a few other things. I took it to Baer Wheels this morning and they fixed it in just a few hours. They were knowledgeable, nice, and super helpful! My boyfriend also got a helmet and needed a little help figuring out which one to get and everyone was great helping with everything!
🐢
Took my bike in for a fairly simple adjustment. The gentleman told me it only takes a few minutes to do, he just needed to acquire the tool. He estimated it would take 1 week. After 2 weeks of waiting i called to check on it to which i was scolded saying theyll call me when its done. After another 2 weeks, i called and the store was closed because they got too busy. 2 weeks later i called and he said hed have it done by the end of the week. At the end of the week, i called and he said he didnt get to it but would have it the next day. I ended up calling everyday for the next week til it was done. All in all it took over 8 weeks to get my bike back. So much for biking this summer...
Brought in for just a tune up. He said 3 weeks since backed up, and I get that. Been 6 weeks. He said was to be ready this week. I call yesterday, said he was just going to quick inspect and it would be ready today...guess what! Still not ready. I was going to buy some extra equipment, but not anymore. Not even if it was free. All that does is enable more bs
Daves a good guy with quality work and fair prices--If youre straightforward with him, hes straightforward with you, and willing to help you out no matter how small the repair or part.
I dont post negative reviews very often, but I have to with this company. We dropped my bike off to have the brakes fixed LITERALLY 6 months ago. We checked in with him after 4 months - we were trying to be understanding with how busy they must be with COVID and the season. After checking in, they said theyd make us a priority since it had been so long. Called several times afterwards to check in and now its 2 months later. My husband just stopped in and he hasnt even touched it - NO APOLOGY AT ALL. I havent had my bike all summer and no apology. NEVER AGAIN.
Dave at Baer will do whatever it takes to get you road worthy. After a gnarly crash he helped me get my bike back up and running, and went the extra mile to keep me riding even if his inventory is limited. Always manages to juggle a lot of tasks while still giving your bike the attention it needs. Never met a bike mechanic quite like him.
I went in around lunch time to inquire about a commuter bike. The response I received was, Im working on another bike right now. I told the associate I would wait, meanwhile 5-7 male customers came in afterwards, and were helped without an excuse. I realize bike inventories are limited, but I left and am taking my business elsewhere.
One our neighborhood bike shops in Clintonville. Locally owned and operated by a really nice guy. Great selection of bikes and bike accessories, and they carry one of the brands that I covet, Colnago. The guy knows his stuff and does everything from build bikes to routine maintenance to custom build wheels. Only thing is, you gotta be patient. Hes sometimes slow but the quality is topnotch.
A local bike shop with helpful employees and convenient hours. It is really nice that they are open for people to come in and get eyes on they products they have.
Good location from campus and hours are great. Communication couldve been better for notification of the completion of my request, but service was excellent nonetheless.
Very nice and professional people. I was so impressed they delivered my bike after 11pm at home with no delivery cost.
Best service out there, the worker Dave is so helpful and is about his word. I will always go to this store because they are about there work and get stuff done in manageable time and has it done right not rushed at all! Also bought a Jamis bike from them and helped me find the right size and fit for me. - Jayson lowe
I bought a used bike on Craigslist and was excited to get riding right away. Unfortunately my bike wasnt shifting correctly and my own attempts failed. On a Saturday morning I called and described my issue and the mechanic told me to bring it in. I dropped off my bike and waited outside as the shop is allowing 5 customers at a time during safe social distancing. The shop was busy, the store was only staffed by one person, and I still got my bike serviced in just under 35 minutes. The mechanic showed me how to remedy my problem on my own in the future AND when I tried to schedule a tune up he told me it wasnt necessary because my bike was in great shape. After paying a very reasonable amount for his services he wished me happy riding and said See ya next year. Excellent customer service! Thanks Baer Wheels!!
Very knowledgeable in all aspects of cycling. Very helpful in choosing the right bike for me and the follow up customer service was great!!!
This is based on my opinion and my experience. My recommendation is that you go somewhere else. ANYWHERE ELSE. Plenty of other small business bike shops in the area. TL;DR- was told my bikes would be done in 24-48 hours. My bikes were not finished for over 31 days- 16 TIMES LONGER THAN TOLD. I made an appointment for two weeks in advance for tune-ups on two bikes, was told that it would take 1-2 days to finish, with most tune ups being finished the same day as the appointment. They had my bikes from June 17th-July 20th. On June 2nd I called to make an appointment for a tune up on two bikes, was told that appointments are two weeks out, and that I can get an appointment on June 17th. I asked how long it would take for the bikes to be finished, I was told 1-2 days after drop off. I agreed as this was the standard wait at this time of year. I dropped off my two bikes a day early, June 16, so that the shop had extra time to get them done. I understand this time of year is busy for them. When I dropped off the bikes, I was met with news that due to sudden staffing issues, there is a bit longer of a return time- one to two weeks. Unfortunately, this was still my quickest time, as other places still have a two week wait for their tune up appointments. I expressed this is a lot longer than I was told, I was informed about staffing issues. Ok, I can understand, things happen. When I called on the 24th, (one week later) I was told the bikes were not done, that I was put on a short list and that they are top priority. I call again almost another week later, they said the bikes just need a couple more days and I can pick up July 11th. I arrive on the 11th to pick up my bikes like planned- was told the bikes are still not finished, but are still on the short list and they will let me know when finished. They said if I was unhappy that I could take my bikes to some other place, but was met with news that places are now a month out for appointments. I expressed my disapproval for the length of stay and the run around I have been getting. They promised I would be taken care of and they will get to them when I close and can work on bikes, they will be top priority. I call again on July 16th, the bikes are STILL not done, but promised I could pick up in a couple days. They Stated I could pick up the 18th. I walk into the shop to see them put my bike on the rack to work on. bikes were not finished until July 20th, 33 days after my appointment when I I was promised turn around time of 1-2 days, which means it was over 16 times LONGER than quoted. In my opinion, go somewhere else. They wasted my time and took a month out of this years riding season. He offered me 25% off the price of a tune up for my inconvenience, stated that next year he was going to try something new for customers. Maybe just giving them an actual real time frame so they can go somewhere else. I wont be returning.
Every time I go into the store, I get great service at a great price. And the products they sell are very reasonably priced. Thank you!
Dave has excellent knowledge regarding all things bikes. If you need a part, repair, or background on a repair - this is the place to go.
Bike tuned up and working great! Thanks!! Update 07/13/20 - Shout out to David and staff for another great job. Needed a quick fix and they were very accommodating. The pricing is also really great for a local shop. Thanks again!
Just bought a new bike at Baer and had a great experience. I was slow making my decision and Dave was patient and helpful in the process. The prices are fair, selection is awesome and the service is the best part.
One of the few bike shops that will come pick up your bike. They arrived when they said they would arrive, and did the repair right there. Their prices are very reasonable. Overall a great experience
Had to try 3 times; the sign kept saying be back in 15 minutes. Service was curt and unfriendly and I am not sure if I will go back.
Great owner and service!
Great bike store with no bad options. Their stock its fantastic, and the labor they do is top notch. Sometimes things can be slow, but in my experience not any slower than other places like Paradise Garage. Give Daves store a try though. I dream about getting a custom bike from here and I see the builds his team does every time I walk in. Nice stuff!
Super busy! Friendly and helpful
Very slow service - Poor customer service. We dropped a bike off 31 DAYS AGO for crank & chain replacement (and its still not done). After a week we called back to see why we hadnt heard from them, and the mechanic said Ive been meaning to talk to you! (?? But of course he never called us.) He thought the repairs ($200+) werent warranted compared to buying a whole new bike, but we told him to just go ahead and do it anyway. Another week passed by - nothing. Then by the end of the third week we called again and they were half done - just another day of work. Well the fourth week passed by (AND $60 of bus fare later ...) and I just visited and theyre STILL just another day of work. He gave a lot of excuses, but bottom line he didnt want to do these repairs anyway. Useless people. They dont deliver on what they say theyre going to do.Update: they did finally finish the bike, but the owner/mechanic never sincerely apologized. He just kept reiterating that he didnt want to do these repairs in the first place. But he agreed to them (his staff actually encouraged us to make the repairs rather than buying a new bike), and he kept the bike for THIRTY-ONE DAYS without doing the work or telling us he wont do the work?? Just say you wont do it and give it back so we can take it somewhere else. I read past reviews and now see comments that exactly fit his character - highly pretentious, only willing to help similar-minded bikers, not really interested in people who use their bike daily for commuting.
This is one of the best bike shops around. You have a broad selection of bikes and accessories backed by rock solid knowledge. Daves attention to detail and the overwhelming number of people he supports can sometimes derail the timeliness of his service but the end result is well worth the wait. Stop in, look around and then schedule some time with Dave to help you. The price is right and the expertise is unmatched. We are two happy Disc Truckers touring about. Thank you!
Great friendly service and affordable!! They were super informative and ready to help with anything! Great atmosphere too!!
This is an old-school bike shop being reviewed by a former bicycle racer. Its the best bike shop in Columbus, OH with the widest selection of bikes to be found--from kids bikes to commuting bikes to gravel bikes to road bikes, including very high-end professional-quality racing bikes.Need a more obscure part quickly? Check here first. This is the ONLY pro road bike shop for at least 50 miles around. To the best of my knowledge, its the only place you can find a Colnago or other frames seen in the pro peloton in this town.Ill still give it five stars (given the quality of repairs), but frequently repairs and special orders are promised by a certain date, but they often take longer--sometimes substantially longer. I strongly suggest you double-check prior to the promised date, if only to remind the owner the order or repair is expected to be timely.
Could not have had a better experience. Went in about a half hour before they closed for a tube/tire issue. The owner not only offered to fix on the spot, but also walked me through tips on how to avoid issues in the future. Would give 10 stars if possible.
Ive worked at several bike shops in Columbus and I can say with absolute certainty that this is simply the best bike shop in Columbus. It has a very high quality inventory, with reasonable prices. Dave is the most knowledgeable person in the area. If you have something rare or expensive this is the only shop you can take it.
Dave Baer has been in business for 30 years and is extremely knowledgeable. He has a great selection of bicycles. We’ve purchased two bikes and accessories in recent months and we’re very happy with the decisions we made. If you’re looking for a new bike or just some accessories for what your currently riding, I highly recommend you check out Baer Wheels. Clintonville has a number of bike shops and it will be worth your time to stop in and see what he’s got. Accessories are well stocked and reasonable priced. Thanks Dave!
In the past two weeks I have been to multiple bike shops and left frustrated. Baer Wheels was the ONLY place that took the time to listen and understand that we have a disabled child that requires a bike for an upcoming camp and helped us fit our child. It means the world to us that we were listened to and the kindness showed to our child when we went into the store. I will recommend Baer Wheels to anyone looking for a bike or repairs/anything bike related. So glad we found the store and we will be back
I rated this store as good mainly because I either have an excellent experience there or a poor experience there. The owner certainly needs to work on customer service skills, however I would imagine it isnt always fun to be a small business owner. His staff in my experience are very friendly, helpful and were very prompt with service. I have had spokes replaced and a wheel trued in just a single afternoon when other shops in town told me it would take a week (it was nearing Pelotonia). Either way this is my shop of choice for service even though it is on the other side of town for me. Always honest about what needs done and doesnt try to over sell anything.
Alot of merchandise and good prices
I typically dont leave reviews but after relocating to Columbus and needing to get my bike up and running, I found Baer Wheels was only a few blocks away. Andy was great to work with, going over what my bike needed as well as suggesting a few additions. Everything was at a reasonable cost, the guys there know their stuff and my bike rides great now. This is my shop from now on.
Im with many others regarding the customer service. He showed me a wired and wireless computer for my bike. The price difference was substantial, so I asked him what the difference was. He gave me a smug look and simply said, The wire. Thanks genius, no crap, thought there was something else to justify the gap. After spending about $400, I asked him about bike racks for my car for future reference. He pointed in a general direction, and told me he could look at my car in terms of fit, but that it wouldnt make sense to look at my car now (it wasnt busy), since I wasnt looking to buy today. I am a paying customer that just gave you $400, and you cant look at a bike rack with me! When your store isnt even busy! If I spent that much, it isnt a stretch to think you can sell me a rack (which I wouldve likely bought).I did give 3 stars, because I did buy a bike and accessories. The prices seem reasonable, the variety was good, and I got the impression that he is incredibly knowledgeable and has the resources to fix many problems(based off of my very limited time there). Despite being annoyed with my questions, he did answer them before he knew I would buy. But frankly, I didnt like his general attitude toward myself and others (Cmon dude, smile once!), and I only come back to buy from people I like. I will soon be buying a bike rack, but purposely avoiding his shop because of his attitude.
This is a great place for upgrades, tune-ups, and walk-in repairs. Since Ive never bought a new bike I cant comment on their service with new bikes except that when Baers people talk, they take pride in standing behind the bikes they sell.I just got done reading some of the negative reviews and have to comment that its true the guys in this shop arent warm and fuzzy and bubbly. Theyre dry and competent and they love bikes. Its a bike shop, and theyre not sales people (they never fail to fix a bike and give good advice)
Great shop with great service! Guy was willing to listen and help guide me the right direction. And when I popped a tube trying to install he charged almost nothing to install quickly.
Great store. Great Service. I was building a bike and had problems with the bottom bracket and chain line. I told them to install the proper BB and to finish the setup. Turned out I had not pressed on the cranks firmly enough and that there was no need to install a new BB. Wow, They could have replaced it and I would have never known the difference. They did they honest thing and did a great setup as well for a very fair price. Baer Wheels is now my primary local bike shop.
Dave is great! he got me a cargo bike that no one else could and it didnt take long. If you ever need a wheel built or trued he is your man. He can get you just about anything if he doesnt already have it in his shop. Thanks Dave :-)
Two years ago, I bought a hybrid from Baer. The service was great and they definitely matched me up to a bike that suited my needs. Last year, I came in for a pre-season tune up and expected to have to purchase new tires. I was surprised when the associate told me I didnt need to. That was some easy money they could have made off of me but chose not to.This year, Im in the process of buying a road bike and Baer will definitely be the people I work with. Cycling is something I want to continue doing and I hope Baer will be around for years to come. A friend of mine is looking at a beach cruiser and finds Dave just as helpful. He even was very receptive towards the spending limits and definitely wasnt interested in up selling her.I usually do not review things on Google, but am surprised to see the number of negative reviews. I have been nothing but impressed to the point I wanted to give my opinion to help them out a bit.
Very knowledgeable and provides solid information. Store is well stock and has anything you need. The store is very busy and it may take sometime but that tells you how good it is.
I went in with my mother to get a bike but the guy who came to help us was really rude to her. She was talking about a bike she had bought previously for a certain price and called it a good bike. He snapped at her saying Im going to stop you right there. What makes you think that was a good bike? He treated us like we were stupid. I had us leave because I couldnt stand the way he talked to my mother.
An original independent bike shop. Not a big-box, cookie-cutter place. Great selection of bikes: road, city, kids. Good selection of brands of just about all types of accessories: saddles, lights, clothing, components. Alot of the big box chains only sell one brand (i.e. Trek, Bike Source, etc.). Also has free air outside on the sidewalk. Also one of the best mechanics in the Midwest!
I needed to get a new brake lever and was helped in a fairly timely fashion. There appeared to only be one person working and at least 3 (including me) patrons in the store. I got what I needed, and even though I made it known, I really didnt know what I was doing, I was not pressured to bring my bike in for the repair.
I arrived at the store only about 20 minutes before closing, very badly in need of a new tire. The person in the store was busy finishing a bike repair that had to be done before closing. He offered to sell me the tire & lend me the one tool I did not have, and let me do the tire replacement there. I was extremely happy with that offer. Ill gladly go back to Baer Wheels.
This is a great shop... Dave can fix anything and has everything to do it!
Dave was VERY helpful... Thank you. I will be back. No other bike shop in town had the Disc Brake adapter I was looking for, Dave took time to scavenge through the drawers to find a part that worked for me.
Simply the best! Reasonable prices and service.
If you ride the road, it is the best shop in central ohio.
I took my bike there for a tune up, and was quote at 2-3 weeks. 6 weeks later and after leaving 3 nonanswered voice mails I show up to claim my bike. First I have to wait 10 min, and when I tell him he looks bewildered on why he hasnt completed my tune up or returned my calls. He says he will give me half off and can have it done in 3 hours. I agree to the deal, and when I come back he tells me if I ride a lot I should get a better bike. When I get home my wheels are not true, and I became very frustrated and angry. I would avoid this business and go to one of the other bike shops in Columbus.
If you dont already know everything there is yo know about bikes, dont come here. The pretentious staff doesnt have time to deal with you: very poor customer service on a Sunday afternoon when there was nobody else in the store. Bikesource was much more helpful, even after they found out they were out of my price range.
GREAT in store selection and very courteous service. However, I will never special order another part.I had some tires on order for two months. First, I was told the tires were on their stock order, and that they would be in that Monday (three days). I ordered them, then called every other week. I was always told theyre not in yet, but they will be soon. One month in, I found out that the tires had never been ordered AT ALL! To compound that, they had the wrong size down for my name in the computer! At that point, I put half down, and the correct tires were ordered. Two MORE weeks, and I find that the tires STILL have not been ordered! The explanation was that the tires are now sold out nationwide. The tires were always in stock at several retailers online, for less money. Last thing I was told, was that they would definitely be in within the next two weeks, and that Columbus doesnt get snow in November. That deadline passed, still no tires, and NO CALL.I asked for and was refunded my money on Wednesday the 21st of November in the afternoon. In driving to Michigan, I got caught up in a traffic jam in Delaware. During that time, I ordered the tires from an online retailer. The local store could have, at any time, bought the tires at that same online retailer and sold them to me at 28.7% mark-up, free shipping. I received a shipping confirmation from the online retailer within an hour. Later on in the drive, around 7, the owner of Baer Wheels called and said he had finally ordered the tires and they were on the way. Apparently, apparently two months is the minimum time for parts orders.
I purchased my Jamis Coda here three summers ago to start commuting to work and 5000 miles later, my bike is in great shape, thanks to Baer Wheels. Dave, the owner, is top notch and answers my questions no matter how trivial as Im learning basic care and maintenance since I sometimes go on long bike trips. I recently met Steve who works there and commutes to work on his bike as well and hes been very helpful too. He helped my friend fit and select a Jamis and just today helped me by making recommendations and repairing my bike on the spot while I waited. I cant say enough good things about this place. I refer anyone looking for a new bike.
I took my swagcycle (Swaggy), In For A Rear Tire Flat Fix,David Baer Was Very,Friendly,Helpful,Gave Me A Birthday Discount &I Even Purchased A Few More Items,!!!! Bravo,Sir,....BRAVO,!!!!
If youre buying a bike go here. The shop owner is extremely knowledgeable and a non-bike snob about bicycles. As a bike snob myself, Baer Wheels carries the dopest bike brands out there like All-City or Soma for example. However, the store runs a small staff, so if you want service, it may take longer compared to other shops. The service itself is still solid.
Baer Wheels was great helped get the correct cotter pins for my old Peugeot. Thanks!
Great local shop. Dave is awesome.
Great first and last impression. Will definately be our place for bike repair. Parking also avail in back.
Great shoppe/great proprietorship, and one of a handful to carry boutique items. Have been visiting it off and on for many years.
Great shop with very knowledgeable staff.
Excellent experience, precise and quick service for a good price
I actively avoid Baer Wheels, after dealing with them for over a year. Ill start from the beginning: before moving back to Columbus, my wife decided she wanted a Jamis Commuter 1. Since Baer Wheels is the Jamis dealer in Columbus, we called to place our order. We called three weeks before our move, because we wanted to be able to pick the bike up when we got to town. The guy on the phone made me sound like an idiot for wanting to order a bike, but he said he would. He didnt ask my name, or credit card information. I gave him my name and phone number to confirm the order. After a week, we hadnt heard anything, so I called back. The same guy answered the phone. When I asked about our order, he had no idea what I was talking about; he had never placed the order! We went through the process of placing the order again! He promised it would be placed that week and ready in two weeks. Two weeks later, having moved to Columbus and ready for the bike, we called back to check on the order. The owner answered, and told us that the order was never placed!! He never apologized, and made it clear that it would be at least three weeks before the bike was ready. Six weeks later, we finally got the bike. After telling the owner, in person, about our trouble, he just looked at us. He never apologized, and made us feel like idiots during the whole process.A month later, a family member knocked over the bike and tore the saddle. I went to Baer to ask to buy a new Jamis saddle. The owner was the only guy working, and said he would order one for me. I called every month, for six months, with no update!! Finally, I went in person, he went to the back and grabbed a saddle off a new bike, and said that was an easy fix. No kidding! That would have been a great fix, the first time I asked, not the 7th!At no point did I have a good experience with Baer.If you want someone to be condescending, and generally unhelpful, go to Baer Wheels! If you want a helpful and stress free experience, go somewhere else.
If you are not a bike snob you may want to avoid this place.
Of course I read all of the reviews before walking into Baer Wheels this morning, so I braced myself for the worst customer service... Ive been riding a fixed gear for the past 5 years, but am now looking for an entry level road bike and have zero knowledge about geared bikes. Marty and Dave were both very helpful, informative and understanding! They answered all of my silly and serious questions and whines about color selections and this brand over that brand reasons from a looks standpoint. Maybe you just dont have a sense of humor since we laughed and joked around just as much as talking bikes/business. I went in wanting a Masi, but tested a Jamis instead since they didnt have a lot of female Masis in stock to test. So I was leaning toward the 2014 Jamis Quest Sport at $699 and thats when Dave approached me and showed me the Jamis New Year, New You promotion, which discounted previous years models by 25%! He by no means had to show me this, but he did and seemed to be really happy about saving me $200 on my first geared road bike. I left to think about it and planned on coming back tomorrow, but I turned around after about 30 minutes and made my decision to order the bike. The shop was pretty busy, since its a warmer winter Saturday afternoon and people are out riding their bikes and/or walking High Street. They always checked up on me to make sure I didnt have anymore questions while I browsed the rest of the store. I also never felt pushed into purchasing either. Granted I wont physically have my bike for a week or two, but I doubt my opinion will change any once I receive it. I look forward to riding this bike and returning to Baer Wheels to add accessories to it and continue to be a customer there! Thanks again Dave and Marty!!
Good knowledgeable service.
Best place in town for bicycle stuff
Excellent service!
Service and professionalism is top of the chart
Ordered a tire, and was told that it would be here in 2 business days. A week later, still doesnt have it. I called three times. Gave me a bunch of made up excuses along the way. I really want to support LBS, but after this experience, back to web orders.
Dave lied to me for 5.5 weeks saying my bike was almost done with a repair. I walked out with it in pieces. Terrible service is one thing, being lied to is worse.
Got my tune up done on time and ended up adding in a couple extra parts/services without charging extra. Im planning on getting repairs done here in the future.
Great Bikes for a great Price!!
Best parts selection in town
