So rare when your training to get something sooooooo yummy!!! Order from them as a rare treat for a good Saturday. Makes perfect with coffee, and everything is decorated so carefully. Literally taste as good as it looks! Highly recommend!

I called a week before my daughter’s birthday to inquire about the available gluten free flavors. The young woman was kind and took the time to go over all of the flavor’s and explain how to make special requests or to place a minimum order of gluten free cupcakes. It seemed that on my daughter’s birthday, they had chocolate chip cupcakes with a vanilla cake. Since I inquired about vanilla bean, she explained that we could simply call the evening before and they would make some cupcakes without the chocolate chips. She asked how many cupcakes I would need and I replied four. I also made a calendar reminder to call the evening before, just in case (this was her instruction). Well. The day before her birthday, a pipe burst and flooded the first floor! Needless to say, I did not have an opportunity to call about the cupcakes. The next morning, I phoned the store as soon as they opened. Again, I was greeted by a lovely young woman. I explained my situation and asked, by chance, did they have the 4 gluten free cupcakes I needed. She said YES! I was pleasantly surprised that the young woman who had originally taken my call made the necessary notes to ensure that these cupcakes would be special made. The earnest was really on me to call back. There were 3 of 4 that had already been iced, but she graciously offered to have all 4 iced in our icing of choice. We arrived to pick up the cupcakes and make some selections for our non-GF eaters. The store was clean and we were greeted promptly. When we arrived home and opened the box of cupcakes, I found a “Happy Birthday” sign inside of the box of cupcakes! What a nice touch. As I blabbered on the phone call the morning of my daughter’s birthday, I explained that these cupcakes were part of her birthday celebration and I was upset I may have ruined that part of her gift. She took the extra steps to include this gesture and it really touched me. In a time when it is extremely difficult to find employees for customer facing work, these young ladies not only showed up, but showed great care, compassion and enthusiasm for their work. I wish that I had noted all of their names to give them an extra special shout out, but raving about this service is the best I can offer. It’s just cake, I know, but the people make it special. Please support this business.

Nice clean place. Pleasant helpful staff. Good variety of cupcakes to choose from. The cake portion of the cupcakes is everything you would want from a cake, crispy edge and a little chew to the outside, nice soft moist inside with great flavor. The frosting had good flavor it was just to sweet it made it hard to taste anything after a few bites of it. I had the Samoa cupcake and they stated it was just like the girlscout cookie.I love the cookie and I think it is better than the cookie. Overall great experience and I would definitely recommend it.

I only had 1 and I had a vegan cupcake and it was good for it to be vegan. But the customer service was outstanding! The whole experience was great. I look foward to trying more cupcakes there.

Sunday vegan cupcakes were okay. There’s quite an excessive amount of frosting used. We threw away more than half of the frosting.However, I’m thoroughly upset with a large cupcake I ordered for my son’s birthday. I was told it was vanilla cake with raspberry frosting. The frosting is pink, but it has no flavor. And the cake is not plain vanilla. The cake itself is very dense and does not taste nice at all. So basically my kids won’t eat it making it a waste of $25 plus tax and tip. We have no friends or family here that I can give the rest to. But even then, I was told it feeds 7 to 8 people. I was able to cut 4 normal birthday cake sized pieces out of it. And again, there’s such an excessive amount of frosting. It’s such a waste.Then unrelated to the cake itself, one girl working had hardly any clothes on. I get that it’s South Carolina but it’s still winter and it’s a family friendly business in down town Columbia, not a bar or in a touristy location like beach side towns...No one had hair nets or gloves on while working with the food either, which is absolutely disgusting.Sadly, I will never return.

I usually have a better experience at this location with customer service, however today when my two children and I walked in, the front cashier was having a personal conversation with what looked like someone she knew. She did nothing to acknowledge our presence as we walked in as she did not even provide a basic greeting. We proceeded to browse the cupcakes and while ready to order she continued on with her conversation as though we didn’t even exist. Even my 7 year old daughter noticed the amount of time we had to wait on her to finish her candid conversation. I would have just left altogether if it had not been for the fact that I had already promised the kids a cupcake and was pressed for time. Highly disappointed. I’m not even going to play the race card in this although it may apply, but the customer service today was just simply terrible.

This place is okay a place to go get some somewhat unusual cupcakes. The frosties are usually pretty decent for the cupcakes themselves are often dry-eyed events it in there all day some taste like theyve been there for a couple of days. Im not claiming theyve been sitting out that long but sometimes thats just how they taste in my experience the few cupcakes I have eaten from there have too often been dry. But the people there are really nice and offer good customer service. This cupcake place seems to be somewhat popular downtown so maybe youll like the cupcakes better than I did

Best cupcakes in Columbia! I ordered a mega cupcake and minis for my wedding last October and they were perfect! The wedding coordinator was super helpful and answered all of our questions. The staff is always super friendly when we go in. Best cupcake shop in Columbia!

Cupcakes were good. Went specifically for gluten free and was disappointed in the display full of fun flavors and the only option of GFwas vanilla with vanilla or chocolate icing.

Wow. Im super shocked that Ive to leave this review.. I love this place in the many years Ive gone here. But this time I was extremely disappointed.. I came here Sunday 03/07 and bought six cupcakes and got one free due to my rewards and what really upset me was how horrible the cupcakes were. They were crumbling like BADLY. I couldnt even hold them.. They crumbled into sand almost.. I was extremely disappointed and it seems like the cream got smaller.. Yet the price is the same? I dont mind the prices because they are good but if youre gonna make them smaller, crumbly and taste horrible they arent worth the price. Id be willing to give this place one more shot before I found some place else.. My experience was very disappointing..

My daughter went there to get her sister cupcakes for her birthday. She didn’t realize that she needed to order ahead due to Covid, etc. No problem!! She was helped not only with courtesy and immediately but they quickly put together an order for her. They didn’t have to do any of that, yet the young ladies were accommodating and so very sweet! The cupcakes were gorgeous, the flavors were brilliant and I will return again and again to give this business my money because they give phenomenal customer service!!! Well done!! Bravo!!! More kindness in this world is key!! They are a class act.

Really disappointed. Forgot to post a couple of weeks ago but this was my first time going to cupcakes down South and I got a cupcake, bit into it and something so gooey and stretchy came out of it and I spit it out not finishing the cupcake.

Their cupcakes are SOOOO good and I ate two before I got home.Theyre just that good with super nice and friendly I think owners.

Selection was limited today (guessing Covid playing a part in that). Out of the dozen assorted cupcakes we got only one person said there’s was not dry. And the decorations were all off to one side rather than the middle. Strange.... wonder what that was about? Anyway, not what I talked it up to be to my friends.

In the spirit of COVID, Ill rate 5 stars for following proper CDC guidelines. Hopefully things get back to normal as there was only 4 different flavors available. Im used to a larger variety. I definitely recommend.

My daughter loves this place. That means three things: The store and product seems to be handled sanitarily, the product is delicious consistently and the quality of service is impeccable. Great variety of flavors and if you are a loyal customer they are loyal to you I giving you discounts based upon how much youve purchased in the past.

I went in here on a whim because I’m not from the area and while they were kinda expensive ($15 for 4 cupcakes), they were amazing! Everyone in there was super sweet and I’ll definitely come back if I’m in Columbia!!!!!!!

Heard about this place when a co-worker brought some cupcakes in a while back. Dropped by here on Friday afternoon after work to pick up some pupcakes for my soon to be 7 yr old German Shepherd. They were out of them at the time but they took my order and had them ready when they opened Saturday morning. I meant to order 6 but ordered 6 packs of 2...but Im glad I did. They were a great hit for my pup and his friends! Thx for keeping our 4 legged friends in mind with your yummy treats!

Went in to try a cupcake and I was greeted with “Can you wait outside until they are finished?” I was more than 6 feet away! Needless to say I will not be returning.

I recently moved to Columbia and love trying out new cupcake shops but this one just didnt sit right with me. As soon as you come in you had to wait at the entrance to be served and they werent welcoming at all due to Covid-19. I actually just wanted to leave but said what the heck why not try it out. They had your everyday flavors nothing spontaneous like smallcakes. The cupcakes were hard on top and had way to much icing. I wouldnt go back mainly due to the lack of flavors and the lack of customer service. I didnt feel welcomed at all when I walked in. Also my cupcakes were placed into a brown bag when others were given a box. Which didnt make it convenient because I wanted to take them home and not worry about my cupcakes crumbling or falling apart when driving back home instead I felt obligated to eat them right away so the cupcakes wouldnt make a mess on the way home.

I’ve visited their establishment many times over the years and the service is never welcoming. I always hope it’ll get better and it doesn’t. I won’t be returning anymore. The girls are cold and rude, the selection of vegan cupcakes are limited, too much icing, and they’re overpriced.

Such a fun cupcake bakery to visit Ive been going here for over 10 years and each time I am served with great customer service and tasty treats, today we picked up some cupcakes there was a huge variety but we stuck to our usual red velvet and birthday cake I also got some pupcakes for our dog and a wonderful milkshake everything was excellent I will continue to be a customer here!!

I just got a gluten free red velvet cupcake from here and it is DELICIOUS! I have celiac disease so I can never enjoy sweets anymore but theirs was tasty and not too bad price wise in terms of gluten free food. 10/10!

Always have great tasting cupcakes. Customer service is normally decent, not great or good but decent. Today was not the case. While sitting at a table watching my wife pay for the the cupcakes and drinks, I saw the cashier roll her eyes at my wife. I can only assume she did this because my wife did not leave a tip on the receipt and at the time of witnessed eye rolling, the cashier was watching her fill out the receipt. Plainly said, we do not tip based on looks and we aren’t exactly sure what would warrant us providing a tip. The cashier wasn’t the one who boxed up our food and even if she was why would we tip someone for literally putting a cupcake in a box? I also wouldn’t tip before I tasted my food. The second issue I had was the fact that we asked a different person for a straw for my daughter and we were told “we don’t have straws”. Ok, that’s cool, we can live without a straw. Here comes the question though, if I were to order a milkshake that y’all advertise throughout the restaurant, would I receive a straw?

New to the area, trying out a variety of bakeries. So far, this is the best so far! They offer a wide variety of choices, and pricing is fair for amount that you get. I also like that they stay open later so that I can make it after work. The frosting is a bit sweet, but overall I enjoyed it!

Cupcakes are amazing!!! but I don’t feel like hand hygiene is up to par. Today, I witnessed one girl go from cleaning the tables with a dirty wet cloth to boxing cupcakes and I almost left because I would not be at home cleaning and prepare food without washing my hands first. Just wanted to bring awareness so that management could address this.

Cupcake DownSouth is a great specialty shop in the Vista. They have a rotating variety of delicious treats, great service, an inviting facility, and overall a wonderful presence. I am no cupcake expert, but every bite I’ve had over the years has been fresh, moist, and flavorful. There’s no store-bought cupcake that compares.I am sure that as they grow, so too will their paltry parking. (Currently they rely on public parking exclusively)

Ive been here before and I must say thats the cupcakes are good. However, I questioned their hygiene after seeing one of the employees had an attitude after I requested she use gloves after picking up my cupcake with her bare hands. Im sorry Im a health professional who works in the health field, and hygiene is very important to me and Im sure to many others.

Great store that has changed over the years. My first visit may have been when they first opened. The cupcakes were like works of art with its own fancy decor. Nowadays its just a cupcake with icing but still taste FAB!!!!!

Yall....the vegan carrot cupcake I had on Thursday night....I cant stop thinking about it. That icing!! And the cake was absolutely perfect. I am convinced that you prinkle magic in those vegan cupcakes because you could fool the best baker in the world with those. Keep it up and you will definitely be taking more of my money.

Cake shakes are a necessity

I always stop when Im close and pick up cupcakes. They have such great flavors and their red velvet cupcakes are my all time favorite.

The cupcakes are a little overpriced, but they are honestly the best cupcakes I’ve ever had. They are so worth the price.They also have reward points for people that are loyal customers. They also have deals depending on how many cupcakes you buy, because 1 is never enough. My favorite is the black bottoms and red velvet. 😋A little con, the frosting is always lopsided so it’s always falling off.

Their cupcakes remind me of a muffin with icing. They are kind of heavy and the tops have a crunchy crust. Surprisingly I actually like that part (the crust). I didnt like the fact that they have chunks of strawberries in them (I purchased the strawberries &cream cupcake) when I think of cakes and cupcakes i think they should be light and fluffy on the inside. The icing was ok. Ill try them again. Next time Ill just get one w/o anything mixed in the batter.

Ive been to several of their locations. All of them are clean, easy to get into and offer fantastic cupcakes. Each location does have their own special cupcake so you have to experiment with more than one.

The decor, layout, and staff are nice. The issue I have is sometimes the cupcakes are dry that they fall apart like dirt or they are too under as in they have a fudge like center-to the point where you feel like it needed just a tad bit more time in the oven. Also, the icing for the regular, not GF or V, has always been super dense and too sweet. The vegan icing is the better of the ones they offer. If they could fix those issues, it would put them above other establishments, especially since there are few places, within the local area, if any, that offer GF or V. Anyway this is constructive criticism,not to make them feel bad.

I wanted to buy everything in the store!!! They have a HUGE selection of sweets, everything from candy to cupcakes to fudge & everything in between! I loved everything I got that day. The cupcakes were amazing & the white chocolate peanut butter balls were to die for!!!!! The caramel popcorn was also a favorite. Do yourself a favor & treat your sweet tooth & tastebuds to something yummy! On a less positive note, the girl behind the counter was competent, but not very friendly. A little customer service & a smile go a LONG way when working with the public.

Cupcakes were not all that for the price you pay. The flavors sound amazing, but I have eaten here on more than one occasion and I find that the icings almost all taste the same, they are all buttercream. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is inviting.

I miss this place SO MUCH. I used to buy huge boxes and share them at my office every week because EVERYONE DESERVES JOY. Every flavor is dynamite.
