A fun and unique place with good food and great service!Stopped in early on a weekday and got treated to a booth in the plane with no wait time. The gentleman who sat me told me the history of the restaurant as we walked through the large dinning room (big enough to fit a plane wing in) past the bar, and up the steps into the cabin. The servers were both friendly and helpful. They suggested some great food and drinks and were happy to chat with myself and some of the guests as we waited on the food. Many of the people working in the restaurant are former military. The pricing was about average for a sit down restaurant around this area and the quality was similar as well. What really stood out were the fries. They were potatoes wedges cut thin and fried perfectly.Another thing that made the wait time go quickly was a visit to the pilots seat. They encourage guests to visit the front of the plane and sit in the pilots seat. It was a very fun time and made waiting with younger ones much easier. All around a fun and unique experience thats worth visiting while in Colorado Springs.

I went early, before the dinner rush. Only a few patrons at that time. There are 3 seating options: at bar, in booth on main floor, inside plane. The bathroom trash was overflowing. Probably from night before since it was early. With staff just standing around, that could have been addressed.Servers dressed as pilots tell you to enjoy your flight as they seat you.Food is higher priced as it is more of a casual steak house than cheaper family casual dining.I sat at a main floor booth but walked through the plane. It seemed claustrophobic: a plane with seats removed and replaced with booths.Feel sorry for servers who have to go up and down stairs all day to serve the plane.Kids may play in the cockpit, which has all the instruments.Food is good; on the higher price range. I had the buffalo steak.Service was awful for me. My server left to take care of bar crowd without telling anyone to take over my service. I could not get any server attention. It wasnt crowded and many servers were just standing around but wouldnt attend me since I wasnt in their area.It was 20min from time I finished meal until I got someone to take my dessert order. And that was because I had to go to the host at the door to place my order. Then it took another 15min to be delivered because no one knew who was responsible for it.I couldnt get anyones attention to pay. I started walking to the host again and then my initial server, from the bar, called out to have him take my money.First time in my life I never left a tip.

My husband has a deep obsession with airplanes and I am so glad I finally took him here. Very cool place to eat & look at the plane. Long wait to sit in the plane, lots of empty tables, not enough servers to seat everyone. They definitely need more employees. There were 2 hosts taking names & seating parties, mostly standing around repeating themselves. The food was good, fries were delicious!!! Nice place to look at, but if you dont have time to wait, dont come here.

We recently moved to CO. Heard about this restaurant and wanted to try. Tried to eat there back in March with visiting family, but the wait was too long as we had kids to feed. They dont take reservations until theres a certain amount of people. Guess we didnt qualify, even though there was over 10. Be that as it may, we returned today for lunch just with our little family of 5. We were told there was a 20-40 min wait depending on if we wanted to eat in the plane or in the actual restaurant area. We didnt care. Again, kids. There were many tables open! We shouldnt have had to wait at all! Ok. Fine. Our server basically ignored us. We had to stop her just to get a refill because she wasnt stopping at our table. The food.. McDonalds is better. It was basically microwaved food. We had the American burger. Our server never asked how we want it cooked. That was clue #1 that this was a heated up burger. My kids had a hot dog and Mac and cheese. Again, just microwaved. We wont return. If we do recommend and thats a big IF, we will make it very clear that youre only there for the experience of eating in the plane. The food and hospitality arent anything to write home about.

Was excited to eat inside a plane but that enthusiasm soon eroded once there. I can understand why they were low on staff but the waiting time was ridiculous. The place was practically empty while we waited to be seated, and then it took a long while to get served. To make matters worse, none of the food we ordered was flavorful or memorable. Spaghetti sauce and the alfredo sauce tasted canned. The fettuccine was over cooked. There wasnt a hint of lobster in the stuffed mushrooms. The staff was friendly but Im not going to return.

What a wonderful experience for an aviation buff! The while restaurant is decked out in models, photos, and other aviation gear. Then there is the elephant in the room...a real USAF KC-97 tanker! You can choose a table around it or better yet, eat inside. Take a trip to the cockpit and feel the history, or take a trip to the tail and look at the mock up of what a refueler does. Good American fare for any taste - large menu. Great place to take the family for a dinner adventure or if you just want to grab lunch to get out of the house.

Colorado Springs, Colorado —-My experience at the “Airport Restaurant” was 5 Star for hostess, 5 Star for my flight attendant (aka server) “Valerie”, 5 Star for the atmosphere & flair, but 1 Star for my food, thus the 3 Star overall rating. My $16.95 buffalo burger would be bad bar food, let alone restaurant food. My buffalo burger was thin, dry, & tasteless. They should be embarrassed to place this on the menu for $2.99. No quality & no quantity - I left disappointed “&” hungry. My food experience makes we wanna avoid any future meals here. I would return, but for the service I experienced, the eating in the plane experience and the experience of the seemingly endless airplane flair. Of course, I would limit my food intact to a cold beer - they can’t mess that up.I did appreciate the patriot flags displayed in the plane, the flag on the beer glass & the full-sized flag visibly waving through the window seat. I thank you for your patriotism.I thank “Valarie” and the hostess for the quality smiles they gave me.“Run-A-Way Bill” was here!01.29.21

My husband and I were really looking forward to taking our 2yo here but it ended up being a bust.We did come at dinner time, realizing we’d have a wait…but we couldn’t get past the horrible hosting/service.Unfortunately, you could tell the hostess was a little slow, not all there. That was frustrating but we tried to be patient. She asked our preference.. we said by a window. We waited 20minutes and it turns out that was for inside the (practically vacant) restaurant, not the airplane. She was like, yeah, that’s all full. That will be another 45 minutes. What!? Why wouldn’t you specify the location from the beginning!? That’s literally your job. When asking aisle or window in the context of plane, this seems obvious!!! Why would we come with a little kid to NOT sit in the airplane!?With bad communication and service from the beginning we just left. From other reviews, it doesn’t sound like we missed much, food wise, anyway. Would’ve been cool to eat in an airplane though. The inside with memorabilia was neat. Too bad this was such a bad experience we likely will never go back.

The dip looked like someone put shredded cheese in the microwave. It was gross. We then got our food and I ordered a cheeseburger. It was cut up like 4 times, i guess they were trying to see if it was done, and it was the driest burger I’ve ever eaten. Then there was a hair on my plate. I’m usually not one to put reviews, but I had my hopes really high for this restaurant, and was super disappointed! We were one of three tables that were seated, and it still took our food an hour to come out after we ordered it. I usually am understandable since I’ve worked in the food industry, but the waiter didn’t even acknowledge it and only came to our table a few times. My Caesar salad came out and the croutons were SUPER burnt. I gave 3 stars because my main entree (club sandwich) was actually pretty good.

If youre looking for a unique experience, this place will probably satisfy that. If youre looking for good or cheap food, look elsewhere. For the price and taste, the food at The Airplane Restaurant was not worth it. We ordered the Reuben Von Crashed Bison Sandwich with Sweet Potatoes and the Blackened Salmon Caesar Salad. The Reuben Von Crashed Bison Sandwich was mediocre -- it wasnt remarkable, but I do remember it being dry. As for the Blackened Salmon Caesar Salad, Joe, a friend of mine, would say its the best he has ever had. Granted, it was his first time eating salmon, so who knows. I took a bite of his Blackened Salmon Caesar Salad, but it didnt leave an impression -- it tasted just like a normal salmon. The customer service was mediocre.Yeah, the environment/experience was unique. It was like being in a museum, with food, but in typical museums, there is a restaurant either nearby or within the museum. The Airplane Restaurant was just like that.Overall, would I return to The Airplane Restaurant? No, Ive already had my experience. Do I recommend this place? Only if youre interested in this type of thing. Was it cheap? No, so if youre a budget traveler, I wouldnt recommend visiting this place.

The Airplane Restaurant (previously, Solos) is comfortable, like an old A-2 jacket that is faded and has the cuffs and waistband heavily pilled and barely elastic. Other than a few new zaps on the door, nothings changed much in 20 years. The memorabilia and aircraft models are all the same, though theyre usually kept fairly well dusted. Few new photos, and much of whats there is fading. The menu has had a few changes, and the kitchen is still solid and the service is usually pretty good. A great place to grab a burger and a beer and chat. Some evenings get pretty lively and, every now and then, a squadron from one of the local bases shows up for a going away or other event. Again, its comfortable, if a little threadbare in places.
