Really solid tattoo experience. Blake brought a tattoo to life that I’d been wanting for a long time. Fast work, excellent artistry, reasonable price, and awesome customer service. Would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

I just got my 7th tattoo and I have found my shop for life. Blake was amazing!!! Very professional and personable. It took 3 1/2 hours and he kept me laughing for most of it. I submitted one picture for reference and he magnified my dream beyond my capabilities. I absolutely love love love my new piece. Barely started healing and already getting tons of compliments. I highly recommend this shop and Blake.

I got my nose pierced here, one new tat, and a coverup and the service plus results have always been top notch. I appreciate the steps they take to talk me through the sanitation process and ensure I watch them open a newly sanitized pack. Their attention to detail and their aftercare support is so appreciated!!!

I would highly recommend The Tattooery to anyone interested in a tattoo. Blake is an incredibly talented artist, who translated my concept into a mastery of design and subtle shading. The shop is run to the highest professional standards by experts in the field. I am already planning my next tattoo, and I will only trust this shop to get it right.

The Tattooery was very clean and I really loved the artwork that was designed for me. However, once my tattoo healed, the real problems began. I bled a lot from this tattoo and was very concerned about it the next day. I was also unable to use the lotion they recommended for me because it burned SO badly. I called and emailed about the problem and they said not to worry about it. Well---flash forward to 6 months later with a completely healed tattoo and you can see the raised, white, embarrassing scars ruining my tattoo. The dermatologists says that the artist pushed down too hard, thus ruining my tattoo.You can see the raised, white, scars on the pictures below. They are the worst on the girls body and on three of the birds on the top row.Overall, I wish I had never gone because this beautiful tattoo that I should have loved is ruined. Hopefully my dermatologist can fix it in a year or so.

I was waiting until my tattoo finished most of its healing to write a review and all of the scabbing has subsided and it looks great!My friend and I walked in to the Tattooery about two weeks ago to get our first tattoos. We were seen almost immediately (although we had called earlier in the day to see if any artists were available). We were seen by Sean. We described what we wanted and showed him some pictures of ideas and the he went back and got to work on some sketches. About 30 minutes later he showed us his ideas and sketches and after a few minor tweaks he got to tattooing!Sean did a really amazing job with two completely different tattoo styles. It was both me and my friend’s first tattoo so we weren’t really sure what to expect. All in all, between walking in the door and walking out with two completed tattoos it was about 3 and a half hours I think. My tattoo (the flower) was $100 and my friend’s tomato was $160 (before tip) but was a bit bigger than mine and also had full color. Sean explained the aftercare clearly and they have both healed really well and healed pretty quickly I think.One thing I would say is, if you’re going to do walk ins, call ahead to get a sense of availability. A pair walked in right after us and were told it would be at least a two hour wait before they could be seen because we had already snatched up the last available artist!

Overall, this place gave me one of my favorite tattoos. Blake was wonderful, respectful (as he was tattooing my back), and timely. The one downfall with my experience was that I felt it was expensive. I was happy to pay the price I paid but I was a bit surprised by the number including the tip. No problems at all though! 100% recommended The Tattooery!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THE TATTOOERY. Would give 0 stars if I could. I got my first tattoo from here, and they charged me way to much. They say they decide the cost based on size and design, which is a rip, go to a place that charges by the hour. I got an extremely simple design on my forearm, the design took 20 minutes max, and the tattoo took literally 40 minutes to do, and they charged me $300 (with a $50 tip as well). In the end it came out filled with white scars because the artist pushed too deep into my skin. Even if this happens however, you have to up to 90 days to get it touched up for free, even if they messed it up. Seriously, dont waste youre money here, theres a way nicer place 30 minutes north called Black Lotus, they charge $150/hr, so I wouldve saved so much if I went there instead. My brother just got a tattoo from Black Lotus, it was way more detailed than mine and it looked amazing, and no issues with scarring, took them 3 hours for the design and tattoo, charged him $450. Much less expensive than the Tattooery, and the work was so much better. Learn from my mistakes, do not go to the Tattooery.

I’ve gotten several of my tattoos done at The Tattooery during my time at UMD and have never been disappointed. I’ve had the chance to work with all of the artists at least once and have always had a good experience. The prices are fair and the artists are very professional and will give you honest feedback about your tattoo and tell you what will and won’t work. It is walk in only so a couple of times I had to leave and come back another day, but in general I was helped pretty quickly. I have never had any problems with my tattoos healing or the line work and would definitely recommend this place!

I have many other tattoos and no artist has scratched me up like they did. They didn’t even tell me the artists name. It’s been 4 months and my tattoo is raised and textured from the scarring. I cared for it the same way I did my half sleeve (gently wash with antibacterial soap 2x a day followed by aftercare/vaseline 2x a day). Additionally they charge per piece instead of per hour. Going somewhere better wouldn’t even cost that much more, this place just exists to prey upon uninformed college students. They were also very inattentive and were busy talking to one another while I stood at the counter for awhile. It was a really uncomfortable environment overall. They also overcharge their piercings.They were clean so I guess you won’t get hepatitis at least.

Wish I can give zero stars!!!! They gave my daughter a tattoo of a heart on her shoulder that looks like they branded her!!!! He was so heavy on the skin it was completely raw and choppyIf you don’t know how to tattoo darker skin you should say so!!!! She is currently looking to get it covered up it looks so bad!!!!

If I could give them a -5 I would. I went to this place with my husband to get tattoos, he wanted king written on his chest and I wanted queen written on the back of my neck in Hindu in a light red ink. I was told they will not do my tattoo because of the placement even though Im a 30 year old woman who has a mortgage and a car note and has worked in a profesional setting for the past 10 years. The more talented artist who was working the front desk said she would brake the rule and do it but she had a appointment and couldnt so she went to ask the guy in the back and he asked her if I had long hair she said no and he said he wouldnt do it. Will not recommend this place to anyone and wont go back for any of my other tattoo needs. Ps I dodged a bullet the guys work wasnt that good anyways.

My experience was great! The front desk person got to me quickly and was friendly and helpful. I went for a piercing and it was my first one. Chris was great! He went above and beyond to make sure I had all the information I needed and to make sure I felt comfortable. On top of that, everything was super sanitary which is really important to me so I was happy about that. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Wonderful experiences.Eyebrow piercing in July with Chris. He was very informative and professional. Plus he is skilled, I barely felt a thing. Then, this week while waiting for tattoos I watched as multiple people came in with messed up piercings from other places or just questions. He was kind and helpful with everyone.Two tattoos with Blake this week.Blake is knowledgeable and makes sure you chose a design that should hold up for years. He steered me away from some ideas that just wouldnt hold up and offered alternative ideas. He is very good a detail and color blending. I appreciated his forthright manner and professionalism. This was my first ink and he was sure to show me the sealed needles and explain everything.

Everyone I have encountered is patient and willing to answer any questions you have. They are upfront with what to expect and I just adore this place. Everything is clean and sterile. UMD alum coming back to review 5 years after getting a tattoo here. This was my first tattoo experience and although it was a pleasant experience and the tattoo is fine (nothing exceptional, just fine), Im cautioning new customers to do their research and go ahead and go the extra mile and pay a little more for better quality. I got my second tattoo at a much nicer place in DC after graduating and realized that the quality here is just not up to par.I will say though that I got my nose pierced here as well and it was a great experience! No issues at all with the piercing and it still looks great with the same piece of jewelry they pierced it with.

I just got my very first tattoo with Gabby on my spine and I am happy.. She was very patience with me and was professional. She went through instructions and aftercare very well, and seemed patient when I repeated myself or was trying to make sure I understood. The tattoo has a few spots where I wish it was more clearer, words not too close together, however she had the stencil and I should have corrected it.. other than that its great!

Super quick, relatively painless, friendly piercing session with Jordan. For myself, someone who had never been pierced previously, he went at exactly the pace I was comfortable with and explained what he was doing and what I had to do at home. Will totally return for future piercings.

Blake is a great tattoo artist. Ive gotten my last two tattoos by him and will keep seeing him. Chris is an awesome piercer and I will always go back to him. They both explain everything clearly to me. They are friendly and honest. Im glad I found a body art home instead of jumping from place to place, hoping for good service. They make you feel confident about trusting them and I have never regretted going there!

It is a great place for tattoos but not a great place to get a piercing. They charged me $150 for two earlobe piercings. They did not have the studs or hoops I wanted.

Chris is a great piercer and is always willing to put in any new jewelry that I buy. Always very diligent about keeping his space clean too. Kevin is an awesome tattoo artist -- super friendly and super fast. His tattoos heal really well.

Its a really colorfully and cozy place. They make you feel welcome and are very professional. I got my industrial and the guy was very patient and went on my pace. Just know if your under 18 you need to provide your birth certificate, your school ID or drivers license and your parent present with their ID. Overall I love it there and Ill go there for my tattoos.

Let me first start off by saying Chris is the best!!! I was nervous because I had put plastic retainers in my nipples due to me having a surgical procedure about 3 weeks ago. I dont know what happened but the end on the bar was embedded inside my nipple and the skin had healed over it. I was so nervous because I just knew it was going to hurt if someone tried to push it through. Chris gave me two options of what could be done to get the jewelry out of my nipple. I trusted what he suggested and before you know it... The bar was out!!! No pain because he was very gentle and put me at ease with his knowledge and expertise. Im so glad I chose to read the reviews to decide which shop I was going to go to help me with my little nipple piercing problem. After not being able to sleep for two nights due to my discomfort, I walked out of there thankful that I chose The Tattooery and met Chris!! Highly Recommended!

I got my nose pierced here and the experience itself was so thoughtful. I was talked to about the whole process and all my questions were answered. The guy (I forget his name) made sure previous scarring wouldnt affect my new piercing and was in general very nice.

Went to have conch and tragus at the same time pierced at once, in same ear. I’ve had many body piercings done before, as well as multiple tattoos. Trusted his judgment to do conch first. Resulted in his fumbling, bumbling in order to make tragus piercing work affecting the conch he decided to do first as his hand repeatedly pressed against the fresh piercing. Resulted in additional, unneeded pain from his inadvertently hitting my just-pierced conch as he attempted tragus. Also too several times to successfully screw the ball on the piercing jewelry. Very bad experience. A pro would not only know to do tragus first, but also how to not cause more pain than piercing did while screwing in jewelry. Do NOT recommend.

Been here 3 times to get a nose piercing. Every time I went, they said they’re already booked for the day and they don’t do appointments cause it’s walk ins only... Mind you there was no one sitting in the lobby. So how exactly are they booked? Even when I tried explaining to the receptionist that I’ve been there several times, she said o well, quickly dismissed me and started talking to the person behind me.. So rude. I have no interest of ever going there again.

I Highly recommended getting a piercing at the tattooery. Everyone who works there are very friendly. Chris did an amazing job on my helix piercing. He answered all my questions I didnt have to wait to long or did I feel rushed. Ill definitely go back for more.

I love this place!! From all the tattoo places I been to this one knocks out all the ones I walked in too. I just wanted in her unexpectedly and I was amazed how clean and friendly they are. I went to get a piercing For my birthday and Chris was very friendly and answered ALL MY QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS!. Of course my clumsy self was a little scare after how I was caring for my piercing and ended up swollen . I contacted Chris and he was very fast in returning my emailed asked me to come back so he can check it out . Long story short my experience here was amazing!! And if you want to trust someone with your body as piercing come to this place and ask for Chris!!! =] best dude ever!

I had an excellent experience at the tattooery! I got a basic nose piercing and the piercer was incredibly knowledgable, friendly and patient with all my questions. The establishment is very clean, well decorated and the vibe is wonderful. I will definitely be going back for all of other piercings. Thank you!

Very unhelpful. Came in for a walk in twice, first time I was told the wait would be 45 minutes and if I left I’d lose my spot. Tried to make an appointment and it took an arm and a leg. Second time I walked in they said the next available time was 6 hours from the time I got there. Again, attempting to book an appointment was unnecessarily difficult. I think they need more artists either way they are very unhelpful and do not give customers the benefit of the doubt given their own administrative issues. I do not reccomend if you’re looking for something quick and easy.

Very Clean- had a nose ring changed and the “Piercing Guy” was excellent!

Extremely unprofessional. i called and asked for a piercer. I was told they are open until 8 but they locked up at 7.30 when i got there. i went the next day much earlier they said that their piercer isn’t there during the weekend and they dont have the piercing equipment and to call ahead. bad communication and the secretaries are useless.

I love this shop! It’s very clean and professional and the artists are awesome!

So my boy goes to UMD, right near the shop. And he has over 25 tattoos, probably from around 10 different artists. He’s a world traveler. Went to this shop for a tat, got it done by the lead guy, Blake I think. Just weeks after his tat, his skin started to raise up & harden directly over the outline. I saw it, and his skin didn’t take well to this one compared to his others tats. He told me the guy warned him up front that he’s heavy handed, but I know he wasn’t expecting it to turn out this way (I’ll see if he’ll let me take a pic of it then I’ll update this review). He does nice designs, but in my opinion, not worth the potential blistering/scaring.

I am clumsy by nature so when my 8mm gauge cross threaded I freaked me and my family tried everything from gloves to pliers to get it unstuck to no avail. I looked up tattoo shops in my area and what once was Curious had been replaced by The Tattooery. I called and was greeted by a very nice lady she told me to come right on in and I did. In no time at all I was greeted by Chris the piercer (hot); he was very patient and light handed on my ear asking if it was painful or anything. After saving my ear and getting the plug removed he gave me very helpful information on types of plugs and tunnels hed recommend and even a website to order them from. The shop itself is really clean and welcoming he decor is rockin and Ill be going back with my brother for tattoos this week. Cant say Im not excited.
