I brought my flute in after it was cleaned and repaired by another business about a year and a half ago. I was originally told a week for my flute repair. When I called a week later when it should have been done, I was told it would be finished “early next week,” then finally received a call that it was ready for pick up at the end of the week (Thursday). The price was originally quoted as $130-150 for cleaning and pad repair (I found out what I was charged for on my receipt after the fact), even though I didn’t need my flute cleaned, it had been cleaned a year and a half ago and the employee even stated that it was very clean. When I was called on Thursday, I was informed that the fee would now be $193. I also inquired about the use of credit cards and I was told that they do accept them. However when I arrived, I was told that there would be a 3% surcharge for any and all cards. I inquired if I had any other options and he said check or cash, which I hadn’t planned on bringing $200 dollars in cash or a check because I was never informed of a surcharge. Upon further investigation, I found that debit cards can be used and a business cannot charge you a surcharge. Also since I had spoken with them personally on the phone and specifically asked about credit cards, it would have been nice if they forewarned me about the 3% surcharge, because then I would have brought a check instead. I understand that this is what credit card companies charge the company, but then make the cost of work more expensive to accommodate this extra expense, or at the VERY LEAST, disclose this to the customer prior to when they show up for payment, especially if the customer inquires about credit cards beforehand. I appreciate the help with and the fixing of my flute, but quite frankly I feel I was lied to and ripped off, which is never a good feeling. I wish you the best with your business and hope you familiarize yourself with the proper way to surcharge on credit cards.
