I hate to leave a three star review, but....it was a let down. I had seen photos of gorgeous fun milkshakes and I knew we had to go! The milkshake I got had the whipped cream melting and running all down the side before I even had it handed to me. The ice cream wasnt anything crazy special or delicious. It was just blended mint chocolate chip. It was a $9 12 oz milkshake. Just not worth it sadly.

I LOVE this store! It has Amish food and products, local house decorations, and MILKSHAKES! The staff were all wearing masks and social distancing. It’s truly one of Clayton’s hidden gems, and I will be back.

I brought my friends here for a much needed girls day. The shakes were delicious, the store is cute. We did talk with who I believe to be the owner for a little bit he was very nice and sweet.I like to give ones the benefit of the doubt, because we all have bad days, but the guy who took our order and check us out seem like he was just ready to get us out of the store..He seemed agitated even though we tried being nice. We will return to give it another try but we felt unwelcomed by him.. The lady who made our shakes was super sweet and a pleasure to talk with!

This place is wonderful! They stock a wide variety of NC souvenirs, an eclectic collection of goods & sundries & an impressive array of locally sourced food products.Also, when the adjacent shops are closed, theres quite a bit of space to walk Chula.

It takes you back to original General Stores with goods that are not in most places. They promote local businesses. A lot of made in America goods. People are nice, prices are reasonable. Enjoyed walking around, even bought some stuff and will return!

My daughters and their friends were so excited to come here, we traveled 45 minutes from Raleigh for these milkshakes! When we ordered at 5:00, it was busy. But, the gentleman that rang me up ($58 for 5 milkshakes) didn’t say anything about how behind they were. Had I been told it would be that long, I would’ve never chosen to stay. We went in the store several times to ask about our order, many people came after us and received their orders before us. We finally got our shakes at 6:30, 1.5 hours later! The girls were excited about having the shakes with their names on the cups, but they didn’t do the stickers for us, so no names. Also, 2 of the girls shakes tasted overwhelmingly like coffee, which was not a listed ingredient in their shakes, and they couldn’t even finish them. Nobody apologized to us, nobody offered any sort of refund or anything. Huge disappointment and we will not be returning. This establishment has a lot to learn about operations and customer service.

Today 3/14/2021 I stopped for the 1st time with the kids to get this milkshake we have had about. We ordered at 4:07pm we were told 15 mins. At 5pm they then told use they are running behind. Then at 5:25pm we want back up and talked to the old man he then told us they must have lost the ticket in the back. He told us he would make a new ticket. We asked for our money back and had to get on the road with a 3y old and 9y old crying. We had to get to the fairgrounds for the light show we had gotten tickets for. This is really poor service and I am one hot mom right now. Thanks for making me kids upset. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

This store is amazing and the people working there make the experience even better. They have patriotic décor, homemade treats, and best of all a milkshake bar that I take my wife at least once a week. This is the atmosphere and people I moved to North Carolina for. Highly recommended.

Terrible CDC guideline enforcement here. I felt so unsafe as no patrons were wearing masks or being asked to. Definitely not supporting a business that willingly puts customers at risk.

No one wears masks even though their google page says masks required and they sanitize.

The owner of this place is so kind and helpful. He goes above and beyond to make sure his patrons have what they need and are very satisfied. During Covid he has used his store to supply the people in the area with things that have become scarce. Its obvious he cares about his community. 💜

We love this little store. Its locally run and features tons of local and smaller scale artists/vendors. There are a lot of unique items to look for from pottery to puzzles to fresh honey and jams. The staff is always super friendly. They also have ice cream! It is a great price and they give you some awesome scoops. They frequently have local food trucks outside so you can grab a snack or meal as well. I love stopping by every once in a while for a scoop or two and to see that new goodies they have in stock. Also an excellent place for gifts!!

Very friendly service and professional staff. Many rustic and farm decor pieces to choose from. There are often many vendors and food trucks outside. One of my favorites is the waffle truck. This is also a great place to come if you want NC souvenirs.

I have been out to the one at the outlets, but I had not made it here until today. Love seeing the food trucks. Today was the outside vendors. Always was driving by. Today was a day I could stop. I found a lot of nice things inside and out.

Very nice hometown store, but emplyees could use a bit of training. A deaf woman was having problems understanding the cashier because she was wearing her mask and could not read her lips. She was trying to tell them to write down what they were telling her, but I dont think they understood her, I know I did. I was going to help, but another employee was being rude and I have a temper with idiots. Manager was called and I believe it was handled properly. Still, by far, the best store to get grape niehi!

I love it! All of the candy from your childhood, Hersheys ice cream, pickled everything and jams, cute housewares, natural soaps...I was in a good place in this store. Super friendly girls working while we were there, too. Well be back!

The reason I am leaving a 1 star review is because there is not a lower option. Where do i start... A friend invited me to an event at this facility. I agreed to go, not knowing that that would turn out to be a huge mistake. This facility was dreadful. Not necessarily based on product selection (although there was a limited selection of quality products). Also not based on cleanliness, although there was a lot left to be desired on that front as well. The biggest issue that my friends and I faced was with the employees at this institution. As it would turn out, unsurprisingly, the employees blatantly denied the use of their facility to my friends based off of the color of their skin. I know this to be true, because I went in and asked to utilize their bathroom, I was greeted with a bright smile and the woman led me to the bathroom. Shortly thereafter, my friend asked the same woman if she could use the bathroom and was told the bathroom was only for employees/ vendors. It was clear that I was not a vendor. Atmosphere was nice and the Hersheys ice cream was delish. The milkshakes are advertised in several Facebook posts are in large mason jars with handles and unique name tags . We were excited to enjoy one to celebrate our daughters birthday but were quite disappointed when our milkshakes were served in plastic cups. They are much less aesthetically appealing. Instead of the cute name tags we got styrafoam plates. The pictures being advertised need to reflect what is actually being served. Those pics show a shake worth $10, not the shake we ended up having.

I like the food trucks but I do not like supporting this store. It is a neat little place but as a liberal I do not feel welcome. Stores should be unbiased and carry things people want not give the owners political opinion. When I walk in I see bumper stickers and lots of them saying make liberals cry etc. So I do not feel my money is welcome.

This was my first time visiting, but definitely wont be my last. The owners were incredibly friendly, I had my Miniature Pinscher with me, which they also welcomed in, which is always greatly appreciated especially in this summers heat. They have a wide selection of unique beverages and interesting and funny signs throughout the store. Some of the products sold have heartwarming stories and are locally made.I purchased the best ice cream I have ever tasted and have never seen before.This would be a wonderful place to add to your itinerary for a family outing. I rate 5, but would easily rate a 100

This was my first visit to the Clayton General Store since we moved to NC 7 yrs ago. I was so excited because I absolutely love buying from local family owned shops that carry some fairly unique trinkets. Unfortunately it was not the experience I had hoped for. Upon entering the store it was like an oven. I would almost bet it was about as hot inside as it was outside. I could not look around the store but for a few minutes at best. My husband and I were literally dripping with sweat. I can imagine that this kind of heat is not good for perishable & non perishable items. Not only was there no air conditioning or barely any air flow at all, but we were not greeted at any point either. Loving little stores like I do, we were disappointed with the lack of hospitality which is so vital to running a successful business. We did not buy any merchandise & if we do decide to visit again, it wont be for a long time.

Incredibly charming shop. The owners are so incredibly kind and friendly, exactly the small town vibe you would expect from a local general store. They have the cutest items, best smelling candles, and the baked goods are phenomenal! The best part is if you want local jams/spreads, local honey, and other great gifts or items for yourself, this is the place to get them. Every time my husband and I stop in, its always a great experience and find exactly what we need. Looking forward to our next shopping trip at the CGS. :)

Very cute. Lots of random, interesting gift sort of items. They have a nice selection of freshly baked gluten free cake and quick bread baked goods. Pricey, but thats to be expected. Tiny, but fun place.
