The place is nice.The young lady who completed my purchase was nice.She was not engaging. I interpreted her being more friendly to the woman she helped than she was to me.I visited the store around around 1015 this morning.I see a lot of areas in marketing the store that is currently totally being ignored.If any knows the owner or Dawn, please introduce us.My first impression from my first visit is that I was overwhelmed.A greeting or greeter would have made me more comfortable and if had engaged me to learn I was new, first visit and learned anything about my palate it wouldve been easier for me to connect, be receptive of things to try, and thereby spend more money.As a marketing consultant and strategist this business has more potential than they realize. Im so good at what I do that I would be willing to put my work where my mouth is and this business could pay me % only based upon the specific results of my work 30 days after the previous month is calculated.This is what you call accountability based pay - no results, no pay.Every business deserves a ROI.Pay from the profit of efforts, instead of from current reserves?

Sister visiting, ALWAYS have to make a trek to the cheese store and the Christmas Shop. Our day was PERFECT, as was the cheese shop.

River Rat has a variety of cheese, including the European kind. They make them and also import the cheese. They also have cheese curds and some of them were on sale when I visited.They also had a large section of candy and savoury snacks. I bought their sesame sticks and I love it. Though Im not a big cheese person, my friends that bought River Rats cheese love it so much that they make it a point to visit them every few months even though they are 3.5 hours away from where we live :)

My family and me have been coming here for years!! It’s a place I must stop at when I go to Alexandria Bay!!! My family loves the cheese and all the other goodies!! I look forward to stopping here this summer and getting me more of your guys delicious cheese!! By far one of my favorite places to stop at!! The staff is so nice and very helpful!!

Seriously, how could I give any less than 5 stars? They don’t sell American processed cheese or Velveeta? Lol We’ve been coming here for years and drive out of our way on our travels from our vacations in Ontario to our home just to bring some cheese home (providing it survives the car ride). Great selection of cheese. I love it that I can buy frozen perch (my favorite fish) and walleye. One stop and you will be a customer for life.

Great little place to stop at. Great cheese along with other goodies. The packaging room has an open window so you can watch the employees working on the foods. They also have a small freezer section with some random things like frozen seafood, if you were in the need for some. Free cheese samples available.

Awesome shop in the village! I highly recommend the 16 year old Cheddar- very sharp but smooth flavor. The Mean and Nasty Cheddar is good also- made from raw milk. Great place to stop while exploring Clayton!

Small shop in the town of Clayton with allllll sorts of River Rat cheese. So many different flavors and blends of cheese to choose from and a variety of sauces, rubs, jams, jelly, candy, crackers and more. Oh, and you MUST try the deep fried cheese curds. Holy moly!!

Ok, I now understand the hype behind this place, and why it was packed when we stopped in. We managed to get the fried cheese curds, ahhhmazing! We picked up some other cheese and chocolate as well.

This is a wonderful place for a very large selection of different types of cheese including well aged Cheddars,and if you no anything about NY its the best state to get most any good flavored cheese but we by far hands down come with the best cheese curds around. If you time it right at the River Rat you can get it fresh cut on Mondays and Thursdays. But this family owned business is very fun and out going and respectful to any and all customers weather in for a one time visit or a regular local. Very accommodating I dont think you can go wrong if cheese is on your list.

Purchased at a truck stop, so I didn’t expect the quality to be good. Boy was I surprised! I purchased cheese curds and they were fresh and very tasteful. I liked them so much I looked them up on the internet and wanted to give a review. I lived in Wisconsin for several years and was lucky to have a (different) cheese house nearby, so good cheese is always appreciated. I wish this business all the success it deserves. I know I will purchase more of their products in abundance next time I see them. Thank you.

Great little shop. Lots of varieties of cheeses, spreads, mustards and other goods. Love the hot and spicy mustard. No real social distancing protocols though. Easily 30 people or so shuffling by each other. If I end up getting Covid-19 itll be because I came here. 4 stars.

Stop here every year during my fishing trip. Awesome variety of cheeses, some uniquely crafted I havent seen before. Aged cheddars are excellent. Also craft jams, honey and sauces among other things. Wish I had a place like this near my home town.

If you want a souvenir tee shirt or hat or sweatshirt the prices are great. We also got licorice and several different candies. The cheese selection is outstanding.

Great place to stop and get some cheese. They had some samples out and available to those who wanted to try. They also have some of the best cheese curd around. My husband and I were very excited to go here the other day we got some new cheeses to try in little smaller bits so that we didnt spend a whole ton of money but got to try some new cheeses to us.

I received several types of cheese for Christmas and I have to tell you hands down this is the best cheese I have ever had. I have not tried the white cheddar horseradish cheese but have about finished the cheese curds and the 14 year aged brick. This cheese is outstanding and full of flavor.

We have ordered from the company in years past but after having ordered two weeks ago and no order was delivered, we kindly notified them that we did not receive the order, the Owner of the company scolded me for not being open at the time the delivery man showed up after I had noticed them at the delivery time of our hours. In addition, she insisted That he called my number, eventhough it was the wrong number. I INFORMED HER THAT IT WAS THE WRONG NUMBER AND SHE SAID SHE WOULD NOT DELIVER TO US AND HUNG UP THE PHONE.I called back and her assistant continued the bad attitude and I informed her, I would never do business with this company again.She said good. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.

Love this place. The woman who helped me with a gift for my stepmom was great. She has gluten allergies and called me back to let me know which items I could buy for her.
