So much fun! You smell the scents, make notes of the ones you like, then you try to combine scents that work together. Once you have your combos, you can mix & pour your candles and name your scent. They have jars in a variety of sizes and colors, you can make tarts, and even spray! It takes about 2 hours before the candles are ready, so Id plan to eat or just explore downtown. Very cool, would definitely recommend.

I absolutely love this store!!! The new owner of The Candle Shop is lovely! I had a phenomenal experience making two custom candles. Staff are extremely encouraging and patient which makes the whole process super fun and in such a soothing environment. Definitely wish there was one of these in NYC and was super happy to learn that custom orders can be made through their online shop! Next time I’m in Cincy, I’m definitely stopping by! Going to The Candle Shop was the perfect way to spend a rainy Monday afternoon.

It was a busy Saturday afternoon when my bridal party and I decided to make some candles on our adventures. Staff was so kind and knowledgeable! Our scents came out perfect. They helped us make our creations in the perfect time, we had detailed help and weren’t waiting or being rushed.

Great staff with good recommendations on pairings of scents. If you mix your own candle, just know itll take a few hours to set. Was able to get the ones I made shipped to me since Im from out of state...just pay for shipping.

Its a wonderful place with a great experience. This most recent time we were there with a group of 7 people. We had reservations, but it was over crowded, extremely busy, and our group wasnt able to sit together or all work on our candles together. We left feeling crazy over stimulated and exhausted. I wish they didnt allow so many walkins while there was a schedule full of reserved groups. Only reason why its not 5 stars. I recommend visiting during a weekday or the location out in Anderson, shouldnt be so crowded.

Lots of selection. The hosts were very nice and did their best to accommodate everyone in our party. The price was acceptable. It was fun being able to actually make your own candle. Overall, it was a pleasant experience for the all factory sense and made a wonderful little date.

A wide variety of great scents: floral, citrus, herbaceous, sweet & savory. How they managed to get a candle to smell exactly like fresh earth, idk, but you can even get dirt-scented if thats your thing. Makes great gifts for others or a treat for yourself.

Ive been here twice and the staff is always so nice and helpful. Try to make a reservation when going -especially now during the pandemic! There are a lot of seasonal scents that are really nice.

This is a really unique and fun thing to do with friends or family, maybe for birthdays or other little occasions! They have a lot of great scents to choose from and you can pick up to three to make your own custom candle scent. Don’t worry if you are indecisive like me, the staff were awesome and help narrow down your choices of what will smell nice together! They also have lots of cute jars to pick from. You’re really paying for the experience, so $15 for an 8oz candle wasn’t the end of the world to me.

My work team went here for a team building day. It was really interesting to make our own candles and it was neat to learn what scents everyone is attracted to. It was a fun experience, but the store smells can be overwhelming.

Very cool getting to make your own candle scent. I was kinda disappointed that you cant layer the different scents you just get to combine them to produce a unique scent but I understand why it would take too long to get each layer to harden. Really nice staff that walks you through the process. You can then explore OTR while you wait for your candle to set.

Such a fun activity in OTR. Great for mother/daughter, before drinks, and teen girls. You can reserve up to five spaces. Candles take about 90 minutes to set. Time to visit a nearby restaurant. Friendly helpful staff.

We visited the candle lab for the first time last Sunday. My SO and I both love candles and I decided he deserved for me to take him out for a nice day for once. The candle lab was absolutely perfect. It was such a unique experience to be able to create our own scents. While I would say it is a little expensive, I would put it on par price wise with Yankee candle and for that price I’d much prefer to make the exact candle that I want with unique scents and while making memories. While we waited for our candles to harden, we easily walked OTR. We had lunch at taste of Belgium and walked a lot of shops. There are so many other things to occupy your time if you want to wait and take your candles home that day. It was the perfect relaxing Sunday date day and a great way to enjoy a vibrant downtown atmosphere. I would highly recommend the candle lab to anyone and we will happily be visiting much more often.

What a fun place! A friend and I made some candles and I made a body spray, she a body scrub. The staff are so helpful at helping you match scents & make combos based on your smell interests, even if you pick too many (like me). You design your own label which is so fun! It makes it feel uniquely yours. Even more so when you get to combine scents in amounts that suit your nose.Youre also able to pick items that fit within your budget. Some of the candles are a little on the pricey side, but the smaller ones are affordable as are the sprays. Im thrilled with how my candle and spray turned out and cant wait to return!

Small store, but good soy based candles that burn clean, long and have accurate/great smelling fragrances that fill your home. Interesting that you can blend your own fragrances to make your own candles as well (works out to be about 2$ more than their standard candle). Prices are very reasonable at 18$ for an 8oz candle and buy three get one free.They also offer scented oils, diffusers, soaps, and room sprays.

We were there to celebrate my granddaughters birthday, and there were 9 of us with a reservation. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and asked several times if we needed any help while waiting for the rest of our group. Also our questions were answered very nicely. When everyone arrived we were instructed on what to do and then took our seats. The only slow time was the sweet girl who was taking care of us was called to the register and were were left sitting for a bit. The place was quickly crowded but the attempt to take care of everyone was outstanding. When we came back to pick up our items the staff was very busy but got us taken care of quickly and we were on our way. I will be back!

Really neat store where you can customize a candle. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They will help you find some good scents to blend into your candle. It would be really cool if you could also customize the color.

We had so much fun making our own candles. The provided warm wax was poured into the jars and we mixed in our custom oils selected from over three dozen options. (We picked orange peel, cinnamon and peppercorn). Tip: make your candle first, then while it is setting, go have lunch or do more shopping. You have about two hours for the wax to cool. The finished candle was gift boxed and ready for giving. (If youre in a hurry, you can also choose pre-made candles or a gift certificate.)

I took my mom here for a friday night and we were overall disappointed. We were very excited to attend the Candle Lab and upon entering were welcomed and given a brief summary of the how-to. Once we sat at the bar to mix scents we felt rushed by the employees to get our labels made. Granted, they did tell us that in order to pick up our candles that night we had to be finished in 30 minutes but we were still rushed to make seats available for other customers coming in.We were assured during the mixing process that they candles would be very fragrant when burning and that it would burn for 60 hours. The candles are not very fragrant at all and definitely didnt burn for 60 hours. It is a slow burning candle but didnt last 60 hours. The $5 candles I buy from Walmart are 10x more fragrant.

Visited recently while in town for just the day. Our group started the process close to the deadline for picking finished candles up at the end of the night and the staff were all really patient, helpful and flexible in getting us wrapped up so we could pick our candles up the same night.The process is fun, the people were all great and the prices were actually really good for custom making your own soy candles! Would recommend to anyone! Such a cool place!

Visited the Candle Lab this past Saturday and decided to make something for the first time. The staff was very helpful with the decision making and very knowledgeable about the product and scents. The staff greeted me when I arrived and seemed very eager to help me any way they could. The only complaint I have is that the a/c was either not on or not working. As I was picking scents there was literally sweat running down my face. If the staff was not as nice as they were I would not have stayed and made the candle. It was just too hot

So much fun picking the scents we loved and making them into lotion and room spray!! They had so many options and it was wonderfully priced. Too much fun to pass up!

The place is wonderful and the experience is a lot of fun. But the place is so disorganized that we waited 30 minutes to get started after picking scents, and the girls continuously allowed people in the back of the line to jump into seats in the front. Would love to rate higher, but very disappointed with the employees.

Fun experience! But the staff almost ruins it with their bored, anti-social attitudes. They dont welcome you or give general instructions (how to begin the candle making process) and we all felt vaguely unwelcome, as if we were walking in moments before they closed--even though that was not the case. It was my first time making candles at a place like this, and I would have loved to feel a little more confident about what I was doing! There were people coming in behind us as well, and it was unclear if we were supposed to take a seat or wait until our party was ready, or if we needed to wait in a line. The room is tiny so this uncertainty and shuffling around was especially confusing and could have been avoided if a staff member had looked up from their candle and/or cell phone long enough to say Welcome to Candle Bar! Choose your scents and have a seat when youre ready! or whatever the instructions might be.One staff member, Jordan, is the exception! She did warm up over time and seemed to sense the need for some instruction. Otherwise we probably wouldnt have stayed.Each 8oz candle costs roughly $17, but I would put the quality on par with any $5.99 candle from TJ Maxx.

This is a cool space! I was nervous about how my candle would smell, but it turned out great. A candle doesnt take long to make, so this is perfect to do with friends before getting dinner or drinks.

I watched a Candle Lab delivery truck driver back up into my 3 month old car and drive off in front of the OTR location. I tried to reach out via email and cannot get this issue resolved or any communication from this company. I have been reaching out for 2 weeks now and am disappointed by the lack of responsibility this company is taking for the hit and run that happened before my eyes.

Such an awesome idea and their candle put Yankee and White Barn to shame! Fantastic rainy day activity with the kids.

But we had a disappointing experience and have received no response from the company or the owner of this location. We coordinated 3 families to meet at The Candle Lab in OTR. We had a great time choosing our scents. When we went to make our candles, we were told it was 4:33 and the deadline was 4:30. We had been in the store about 30 minutes prior and no announcements were made regarding the time limit. We easily could have been ready on time, but had no idea there was a constraint. Very poor organization and lack of response to my concerns by the company means 1 star from us. So disappointed.

DO NOT GIVE THIS SHADY BUSINESS YOUR MONEY. ESPECIALLY IF YOU WERE FRIENDS OR FAMILY OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I have been in customer service and retail for 5+ years and this is by far the WORST, most blatantly disrespectful and dishonest business I have ever worked for. I worked for this store for almost a year and a half, before it was turned over to Steve Weaver (Owner of The Candle Lab company). Our ENTIRE STAFF was kept in the dark, even when we asked REPEATEDLY about the status of our positions for the upcoming month and if we would need to find new jobs. They gave NO answers. They fired nearly our entire team on the same day, over email, with NO NOTICE (Ohio is a work-at-will state so this is allowed) leaving employees who have long been loyal to this company struggling. All to hire “fresh faces” that wouldn’t recognize the immoral and highly questionable business ethics this company follows. They did this behind the back of our lead manager. Although they stated in the termination emails that we did not meet the new standards required for their positions, we were never informed of any evaluation process, nor told the new standards/requirements expected of our positions under the ownership change. During the change of ownership, Denise Smith and Ashley Kahles (both employees of Steve Weaver) demonstrated extremely disrespectful behavior and made their lack of sensitivity training very evident. For those of you that are unaware, the previous owner of The Candle Lab OTR was tragically murdered this past year. His presence is very much missed and was a big adjustment for employees. In the first two days the tribute candle our store burns in his honor was quietly thrown away without hesitation and his obituary that we kept taped to the back of the door that led to our storage room (only visible to employees) was ripped off and thrown away privately. When employees expressed that they were uncomfortable about how it had happened, they were quickly reprimanded for spreading negative energy for even bringing it up and threatened to be sent home. Ashley Kahles even jokingly questioned if having the obituary posted made us “feel warm and fuzzy inside.” FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WERE FRIENDS OR FAMILY OF BILL RUST, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GIVE THE CANDLE LAB YOUR BUSINESS ANY LONGER. They do not respect him, even in his death. They have made it very clear that the memory of him has never been important to the store and continuously use degrading and disgusting language when mentioning him in conversation ever since his passing. I’m sure that The Candle Lab will type a well worded corporate-appropriate response to this review defending their actions and terminations, but let it be known that everything mentioned is 100% the shameful truth and reflects the philosophy of The Candle Lab business.
